In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : I'm astonished - you are less than 21?! Pardon me asking, but what sort of education have you had? That may sound a strange question, but it's not, nor is it patronising or condescending, but I had you down as middle-aged! For various reasons I will not bore you with, I was not educated, as such, & so the subject always interests me greatly. I still keep thinking about that turn of phrase you used, which left me feeling a little inadequate - "iambic pentameter " - whch I have never once come across in my life. And I LOVE discovering new words & phrases. This will sound all wrong, I know it will, but it's not every day that someone less than 21 years old uses words & phrases I have never heard of, & it both pleased me, and at the same time made me feel incredibly ignorant! More of the same please. But different. Today's new word is murmuration . ;)

I've recieved a state education which I am not long coming out of.  I only really know of iambic pentameters because I take a great interest in the theatre and the writer of Shakespeare's work, and one day hope to be a working actor.  I suppose the term in my trade would be akin to the term "back-raise" in your trade.  And I don't actually speak like this; I am much more well-written than well-spoken.  I'm right working-class, a right cor-blimey, if you will.

Also, great word.  It means just what you think it would.  Must start using it.

Well thank you. But if you were referring to "murmuration", I was not using it in it's conventional sense, there is a far more beautiful meaning to it! A tad tricky to weave that into convo down the pub......

The photo below, taken near Brighton Pier, refers. (Click to enlarge photo).

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : I think I understand your problem, or "issue", a little better now. You have won a big bunch of money, almost "out of nowhere", & now you are not quite sure "where you are" in poker. In your shoes, I'd lock up 80% of it, then assume the balance was your poker bankroll, & it was not replaceable, so, in effect, start again. Do be very careful it (the entire win) does not trickle away, there's no point winning 50 large if you simply re-invest it in poker, no point at all. When I retired from proper work & took up poker, I was running & rooming with 2 other guys, Julian Thew & Ian Oldershaw. Ian came with us to Amsterdam, scooped £113,000, & then decided to go play the Pro Circuit. He owed a few bob in %'s - I run so good! - & so was left with about £90,000. He went & paid off his mortgage with £80k, & used the rest as his Poker Bankroll. He lost most of that £10k, then promptly packed up poker & returned to work. But the mortgage was paid off. For life. These days he plays the occaqsional £50 or £100 Tourney, & loves it. I hope you lock up most of your win, then earn even more with the amount you re-invest in poker. Keep us updated as to what you decide to do, please, & I look forward to sharing Tables with you. Be gentle with me please. ;)

Youve hit the nail on the head and yes Ive tucked a few quid away well almost all of it. I tried a couple of tournies at the same level but felt I was out my depth. Just exactly where I am in poker I dont know but Im sure it will be fun finding out.
I just wanted to let you know that I agree totally that some players never learn and are looking for excuses for thier poor performances. Annoying as they maybe bad beats happen and should be accepted the same as the river that doubles your stack. Another thing that I really hate is the bad sportsmanship when a player makes a call that perhaps wasnt really the right play but they get lucky. Why cant thier opponents accept that they are learning as thier is no need to be rude. Perhaps I see it more on other sites but some players really go over the top.

So you can beat other online players but not really bad ones you find here?!? That doesn't make the most sense. Maybe you got very lucky elsewhere and now it is evening out?

I must correct you there Staford, that is wholly incorrect. I reply to all messages, assuming they are sensible.

You sent me a message in late February, I replied the same day.

You later acknowledged that in your reply to me on Page 66 of this Thread, on the 5th March. Your Post began "in your reply to me, you advised me to......". So you have already accepted that I replied.

I also replied to that post, too, on the 10th of March, on Page 69 of this Thread. You have never replied to my Post, or the question I posed, but that is your absolute right.

    I said.....

    ".....Hi staford,

It's just bog-standard "variance", which is poker-speak for luck.

If you ever start to suspect that one Site or another is "fairer" to you, then you will be kidding yourself.

Some players talk about the Sky Poker river, or the Laddies river, or the Stars river, but alll they do is make themselves look doo-lally.

The truth is, if you somehow think one site favours you over another, you will get all screwed up in your mind, & it's probably best to go with the flow, & not play on the site that "screws you".

The oddity is that how could anyone even think that one site deals you better or worse cards than another site - how would that actually work???!!!

I hope you run good, wherever you play.
    ...."

I'm afraid I can't really add to that. But it is wrong to say I never replied to your messages. You have asked me twice - thrice now - & I've replied to all three. I am not responsible for variance, nor is Sky Poker, it's part & parcel of poker I'm afraid.

I'm not sure what else I can do, or say, to be honest.

As I already said, I wish you the best, wherever you play.

    Take care now.

Hi Tikay, just finished reading your latest blog which was again a very good read and i can't wait for the next gem. My only request would be if you could nudge Lisaplop and Rich Orford into putting some "wordage" on to our screens in some sort of bloggage. Thankyou in advance Dave.

    Hi recky,

Well that's not a good start, is it?!

I've no idea what the problem may be, or whether it be your end, Sky Poker's end, or in-between.

I don't have the authority or position to resolve these things, but I will try to help you. Really, your problem is something for Customer Care to deal with. However, I am going to Post the problem on the "Technical Queries" Board, to see if we can get a Techie to answer it for you.

Whatever the cause, I'm sorry that your first experience at Sky Poker has been unsatisfactory. Hopefully, we can get it sorted quickly, such that you can share in the fun we have here.

EDIT - I have now Posted the prob on Technical Queries - it is HERE

    Hi Belsibub,

They do not Post a Team-Sheet as such, & there are technical reasons why they don't.

I assume you should get an e-Mail, but I'm not 100% sure on that, & I'll take a look. All the TKO Questions are in the "Tournaments" Board, so I'll take a look & get back to you.

I assume you registered to play for Team tikay, right?

My tables often do this and is often follwed by a script error, if i close the tbl down and open it back up it generally works ok.

    Hi Any2,

Yes, I'll have a word with them both, by chance, I am meeting them both this evening, to play some poker, so I'll mention it then.

As you know, they are both superb writers, but writing - & I mean writing "just so" - is very time-consuming. I know that when Rich pens a Blog, he spends days & days fettling & fine-tuning it, as he's a perfectionist, & judging by Lisa's Blogs, she is the same.

Also, when they write Blogs, they do so in their own time, & without recompense, so that is something to consider, too.

    Hi Recky,

Welcome to Sky Poker, i'm sorry you've had such a bad 1st experience but i can assure you we'll do all we can to get your problems fixed.

i've replied to Tikay's thread in the technical area raised on your behalf, here's a copy of my comments below.

C/care are always the best option and first point of call, but i'll happily do my best to help you here too, i'll reply on the Ask Tikay thread too:

The 1st question i'd ask is can you load a table at all, if so how often and how long does it take to launch?

Simple test is to go to the cash table lobby, highlight any table and launch it. You don't need to actually sit down, this makes no difference at all to loading the table.

now close the table and repeat the above 5 or 6 times - how many times does it load succesfully and roughly what is the average load time in seconds (time taken from clicking 'launch table' until the moment you can view the whole table I.E. see player's avatars and action taking place)

From here we'll have a base point to try and debug your problem.

    Best Wishes

    Adam

hi, im new to sky. i have been all in on 10 occasions. 3 times in cash and 7 times in tourneys. each time the stack size on my behalf and my opponents has been healthy. in other words it has not been desperate play. my grumble is that, out of those 10 times i have been ahead (well ahead) all the way up to the turn, and then guess what? yep youve got it, out drawn! 8 TIMES out of 10! without going into the hands too much this seems very high and unusual.

I don't quite understand what your point is staford?

I don't think I've ever seen anything more perfectly suited to the description "that's poker"

In terms of constructive criticism, I'd say sit down with a full buy in, play more hands, and play more in position.
