Personally, I like the 2 x tone but it's personal preference.  How did I get my first Rolex, well my l esbian neighbours asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said "I wanna watch"!  ;-))

Hi Pat , I would not trust these shark scope leaderboards , i was around 19/20th on the scheduled by network leaderboard a few weeks ago and now there are 2 new players who i have never heard of in position 1 and 2 . It sais they both won $46978 in one tourney ,( that cost £10 to enter and had 24 runners) as far as i know no MTT on SKY has that prize so i really dont think they can be trusted. But of course its always good to see your name on a leaderboard.

Wow, I didn't realise you were such an MTT shark! Got any fundamental tips for my GUKPT in Plymouth next month?

What an unreal story! So you got a Rolex as a gift? I was previously dead set on the single toned one. But I'm really starting to like the look of the contrast of the black and gold.

Ahh I'll try, last few times I've played live poker and there's been drunk's at the table, I've just laughed. But saying that, I didn't get coolered by them. Hopefully the field's a lot softer with the WSOP running at the same time :)

    ---

June is now over! Poker wise, a very stressful month for me. If I'd have held the same mental disipline that I did back in Janurary, I'd have titled my roll away mid-way through the month. Nevertheless, I played my way through it. I'll start by breaking this review down into a few key points.

    Variance -

When thing's aren't going your way, it's all too easy to forget the times you ran hot. I started this month on a bit of a heater, smashing 25%+ ROI sessions, day in, day out. Around the middle of the month things started to cool off. I hit a downswing and no matter how well I felt that I played - I just couldn't win. During such times, it's easy to complain about how unjust it was that your AK got beat by JQ on the bubble, or how an opponent can limp call J10 and beat your 99. Yes, such scenarios are aggravating. But at the end of the month, if you play enough, such events are meaningless. Eventually, the variance irons out the flips and the coolers. It's all too easy to remember the beats and forget the times you hit a 2 outer on the river.

    Winrate -

In hand with variance, goes winrate. Sometimes a player will win a number of games in a row and think they're better than Phil ivey. This month, on two seperate occasions, I won 12 games in a row. Winning 12 games in a row, gives a substantial winrate. Is such a short-term winrate maintainable? No. Does having such a short-term winrate mean I'm better than every player on the site? No. To gain an estimated expected winrate, you have to play at least 1000 games. To have a more accurate expected winrate, 5000 games.

In low buy-in DYMs (£5.50s), I'd say that a solid winrate is between 4-8%. Anything more in my opinion, is unsustainable. Especially when you factor in, playing with other regs, playing multiple tables at once and various other externalities.

Recently I've tended to avoid the £11 DYMs because they've been full of regs. Sometimes, it's better for your winrate and indeed mindset, to avoid the variance of battling regs. Interestingly enough, I also had a 12-game losing streak on two seperate occasions! I also faced a 400+ game break even stretch!

    Tilt -

"Anyone can be the man when things are going their way, it's how we react and handle failure that separates the winners from the losers".

Tilt has always been one of my weaknesses. At the end of the day, winning is easy, losing is the hard part. In light of this, last month I set myself the goal of buying the heavily recommended book, 'The Mental Game of Poker' by Jarred Tendler. In Tendler's book, amongst a variety of topics, he talks about the underlying cause of tilt. This is how I interpreted it:

Just like anger, tilt is a secondary emotion. We use it to hide the fact that, we're hurt, disappointed, anxious, desperate etc. Once you become aware of this, you can become concious of your 'tilt triggers'. For example, tilt might start with your heart rate increasing, you may then start start to sweat, start to feel anxious, and then you get angry and spew away chips. For me, I previously started to feel anxious after I lost a number of games in a row. Negative thoughts about losing my roll would enter my head. I'd then start to get angry easily, and be prone to playing looser. Eventually if thing's didn't improve, I'd find myself tilted as ****, playing heads up games outside of my bankroll constraints. Now I'm conscious of my tilt triggers, I can be concious that I'm starting to tilt, take a few deep breaths, grab a glass of water and continue playing to the best of my ability.

Yes I still get angry, but not near as much as I previously have. Hopefully over time, I can practically eliminate tilt from my game. As a result, I can play my A game for longer and not look back at all the money I lost, that should be in my account now.

    --

    Results:

At the end of last month, I set myself 5 Poker goals.

8% Average ROI in DYMs (7.5% and above counts)
    - At least 6000 Poker points
    - More stratergy/hand review on various forums
    - Buy the 'mental game of poker' by Jared Tendler
    - Crush HU SNGs/Tournaments

In June I played 1128 DYMs, achiving an average winrate of 9.1%. Smashing both my anticipated expected winrate and my goal. I also earnt 7000 Poker points, which amounts to £154 in rakeback.

I am currently in the proccess of reading 'The Mental Game of Poker' by Jarred Tendler. Although I did do more hand review on various forums, I failed to do as much as I would have liked. Unfortunately I sucked at HU sngs this month. So that was another goal I ran short of.

In terms of Non-Poker goals. I did continue to go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I also applied to a bunch of agencies for part-time admin work (mainly just to fill some time up).

    --

    July:

This month, I anticipate my online play will be far less due to a few different things. Firstly, I have to move from my current (dire) student flat, to an actual house in a different part of Bath. I have no idea if the internet will be set up etc. I'm going back to Devon and playing the GUKPT in Plymouth next Friday (6th July)!!! Finally, from July 23rd, I actually have at least a week long placement at a Financial Advisors, which I am very excited about. Seeing as I eventually want to move into something finance related when I finish University.

I previously offered a 'Freeroll' to players. Unfortunately I didn't realise how much I had going on this month! So the prizes this month won't be that great. In August I probably won't have a lot of external things going on, and I intend to go for Priority club again. So I'll be offering at least £50 in giveaways next month!

    July Poker Goals:

    - Play at least 650 DYMs
    - Play at least 150 £11 DYMs
    - Play at least 3 online 20NL cash sessions (I feel it would be great experience because I want to eventually play a ton more Live Cash)

    July Non-Poker Goal:

    - Cardio at least 8 times during the course of the month

    --

Basically I'm going to group the July goals together. If I don't make all 3, I'll donate £20 to a charity of the forum's choice (will post proof of me doing this). And if I reach all of my goals, I'll still donate £10. If I don't make the cardio goal, someone can choose an avatar as a forfeit for the whole of August! Sorry the prizes suck this month. As I said, next month I'll post at least £50 worth of freerolls, just to make the thread more interesting.

Uraghhghh blehhhh basically sums up how I'm feeling now regarding Poker. I've never felt so burnt out, and it's starting to negatively effect my game. The results this month haven't even been bad, I just have no desire to play. Last month was turbulent and mentally one of the most challenging I've had to endue - I feel that I haven't fully recovered from it. If I had to grade my game right now I'd give it a.... (B-). I'm definitely taking the next few days off.

Results since the start of the month:

    136 games +£23.50

This is perfect timing to not be playing my A game, I have the biggest tournament of my life this upcoming Friday, the GUKPT deepstack in Plymouth. Costing a neat £550 to enter, it's part of my Skypoker sponsorship to play. The past 2 weeks I have been elated, eagerly anticipating this tournament. 2 weeks ago I was confident that I was going to make a final table. In my Poker 'career', I've come close on so many occasions to a 'big score, but missed.

    - Had aces cracked (All in pre) in a Friday rebuy on Skypoker for top 3 stack with 30 left
    - Finished 10th in Skyopen (After losing a few flips with a huge stack)
    - Won 5 steps tournaments in a row (top 2 get through to next round) to get from a €6 ticket to a €700 [and had massive stack with 4 left before losing 2 flips in a row. Which would have got me through to €2300 qualifier for an EPT seat]
    - Got a 4th place finish in a £50 live tournament (When I was 17 lol)
    - Got a 3rd place finish in a live rebuy tournament (Also when I was 17 lol)
    - Got 4th place in another live rebuy tournament earlier this year
    - I came 61/31067 in FTSOP event ($11 buy Freezeout) for $379 [First place was $40k]

I feel that I've always come short in whatever tournament I play and I owe it to myself to make a solid, deep run in this event. Ultimately, there's no pressure on me as I basically freerolled it and once I cash, I'll definitely be playing for the win. I will be posting my progress in this thread, so hopefully we can get a nice sweat going once I make the final table.

    All the best
    Patwalshh

    Hey Pat

Im sure if you take a couple of days off and do something that takes your mind off poker you'll be ready for friday feeling fresh and ready to take it down.

I'll probably make an appearance on friday to rail you so thats 1 friendly face you'll know (sort of lol).

    Keep your chin up mate

Thanks for the support guys, it really means a lot. I'm going to try to avoid everything Poker related up until I play on Friday. Hopefully I can crush, especially with 50k starting chips and 1 hour blinds :)

Well tomorrow's the day. I'm driving back to Devon later on and I've got the buy-in burning a hole in my wallet. No Poker today, I'm just going to relax. The hundreds of thousands of hands I've played has led up to tomorrow. There's no more I can do, apart from be patient and play to the best of my ability - It's a race not a marathon.

Why so glum chum - u wil crush!!

Taking a breather from the tables is a gud idea pre-tourney - just relax and have fun, ur 'A' game will come naturally.

Drove back to Devon yesterday evening. I'm home an hour and get a phonecall from a couple of friends who want to do something. Seeing as I can't drink and they've just discovered the world of gambling, we decided on casino. I take £50 in, with the intention of having a good time and if I lose it, I lose it. I just wanted to spend some time with my 3 best friends. Everyone had a great time, and I ended up crushing roulette (if only I could do the same for skill games lol)

    Today's the day

My sleeping patterns have been awful as of late, it's been a struggle to get to sleep before 4am every night. But home, in my own bed, I actually got to sleep at a resaonable time. I woke up this morning feeling fresh. I'll be playing the GUKPT Deepstack in Plymouth today, paid for under my Skypoker Sponsorship package.

I feel like it's Christmas day. Every worry I've previously held about today has left me. I've got nothing to lose. I'm going to crush these live donks. Will post updates, pictures etc here to make this a bit of a sweat thread!

Patwalshh is struggling to update the thread on his mobile device, so I'm gonna be pasting updates.

    Here is the first...

My table isn't the easiest in the world. 3 pros, one of which I've played before in my local casino, (he's played up to £10knl online before) one big fish, one half fish. And the rest seemingly okay, not that great. I'm on 35k from 50k starting stack after getting tangled with the pro (we had history fml) But structure is great and I'm confident I can build a stack

50,000 chips is at least 49,500 too many imo ;)  gogogooooooo

Would you believe him? hmmmmmmmm ..................

30k chips on break. Hand I lost 15k chips went like this.

Fish raised and pro just called, I 3 bet pre with 1010, both called.

Came Axx two spades, checked to me and I bet, just pro called.

His range is basically anything at this point, al
    though I'm 90% sure he doesn't have the A.

He check raises the turn big, I put him on the flush or complete air.

I re-raise small, comes spade on river and he bets, I fold. I asked him on the break and he tells me he had the spade flush.

    UPDATES!

    1)

Patrick Walsh One limper utg, and poor player (pp) raises big in sb, pro calls in bb. Comes down Jxx and pp checks, pro bets. She calls, comes a queen and she leads big. Pro tank calls. Board now reads JxxQ8, pp bets bigish, pro tank calls 77, and it's good!!!!

    2)

I'm first to act and raise, guy next to me calls and sb calls. Both are okayish. Flop comes Q57, two spades. I bet and get 2 callers, comes a 2 and I bet, both call. river 10. Sb checks, I shove......

Both fold, I show 89 two spades. Back up to 37kish. Let's do this

Haha I just want to explain this. Me and him had a fair bit of history before today. He was playing 80% of hands and he's not afraid to call very light pre. He also plays up to 10knl online too. ANYWAY - I agree that I probably butchered the hand AND running this vs anyone else is suicidal. Nevertheless I actually got a very light double up from him. So if anything, this hand just set up a very spewey image, that on this occasion worked to my advantage.

Bagged up a some chips to go into day two. Will post an undate tomorrow morning!

(A huge thanks to Dohhh for updating this thread. I can't log in via my iphone to post them myself. Tomorrow, I'll be posting all updates on my twitter: walshp1)
