Is that durrr/isildur/PA chatlog an old 1?

Tip for HU shuffles - try and talk them in to flipping ;)

Yeah Pat the free software similar to Excel is called OpenOffice, I do have it but it's really wierd the way some things on it work and it's just not hard as good as Excel.

Yeah I'll definitely be showing my face at the SPT. We can't get a babysitter for the Saturday night so I can't play the main, but I'll be there on Friday playing the side event (and maybe some cash) and I'll be there for Saturday afternoon.

I've noted your tip haha. And yes, thats a look back at the epic rise, and ultimate, fall of isildur1. It's probably one of the most unbelievable threads I've ever read.  http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip/durrrr-vs-isildur1-2009-high-stakes-thread-quotes-chat-1231504/

You could always just stop being cheap and buy office haha, although it is ridiculously overpriced! Hopefully, we'll bump into each other at Nottingham.

Hey Pat, I started a new thread for newcomers to introduce themselves but will be good to get some current regulars to post up there to get the ball rolling, so be good if you could stick a few words up there.

Welcome back Jamie! Hopefully see you in some DYMs soon. Yeah I was lucky enough to get one, I'm very fortunate to be able to do so. The amount of hours I've put into DYMs this year is disguisting lol. Hope your good mate, and everything is well.

    August DYM Results

656 games, £6.56 Av Stake, Av ROI 12%, Total Profit: +£408

Also Final tabled the Friday night Rebuy, which was pretty insane. Lost AK < JJ on final table for a monster stack, and ultimately finished 5th.

    September

I'm trying to put some serious volume in this month and reach priority for the first time since March!

    Goals:

    1,500 DYMs
£11 DYM Average ROI of 5%+
    Cash the SPT

    --

Results have been fairly average so far this month. I just have to remember that it's a marathon, not a race.

    Marathon not a race:

  • edited September 2012

    September and beyond.

After a bit of a shaky start to the month, the bankroll is starting to advance in the right direction. I'm happy with my DYM results so far this month. By tonight, I'll have reached 2000 poker points, well on track for Priority. However, in Poker, I've always held a firm belief of quality over quantity. My learning capacity playing 12-14 DYM tables is next to nothing. You learn to play on auto-pilot, and ultimately don't think about the different ways you can play the hand VS different opponents. Why should you, it's just a SNG. No actually it's worse, it's a DYM.

I've always been a SNG player. Yes, you are so often limited to <15bb stack sizes and faced with either folding or shoving, but at the end of the day, it's what's worked for me. I never held the self-discipline, bankroll or focus to play the cash games I wanted to. Last month that all changed. I played a few thousand hands of £50nl and it was nothing short of a breakthrough for me. I dropped the number of tables I was playing and did everything I could to truly focus. What does any of that matter anyway, isn't poker just a simple game? You get dealt two cards, and at best your actions are limited to check, bet, fold or raise.

Average players can look at their cards, and have a general sense for their hand strength in relation to the board. Good poker players can weigh up, and ultimately make decisions based on stack sizes, opponents, board texture and table image in a second. Great players, can sift through the cloudiness of their brain, right through to their subconscious, and find a play that not only exploits their opponents, but destroys them.

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showpost.php?p=5659428&postcount=1

They say that everything starts with one idea. Already, I possess an idea for the goals I have in mind for 2013. Right now, I have a long way before I can seriously put those goals into notion. But I know that if I put the effort in, work on my self-discipline and gain better a better understanding for the 'simple' game we play, I can make a mark. http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/view.php/id/4538860  (My river bluff shove)

The SPT FINAL in Nottingham is just days away. I'm lucky enough to not only be residing in the beautiful city for 3 nights, but playing the main event. I've decided to hold back on the Poker until I play the SPT on Saturday. Results and volume have been great so far this month. I just don't want to burn myself out too much, as in terms of Poker points I'm only 1/4 of the way to priority (which is actually fairly good going for 6 days of playing).

I leave Bath for Nottingham today. I'm sharing a room with the prolific, mass multi-table dym legend, self proclaimed, 'king of donks', JingleMa (two single beds, no hom'o).

For the rest of the weekend, in order the plan is; crush the SPT/drown my sorrows/donk around in cash for the rest of the weekend. How hard can that be?

    Hi Pat

I've read your diary and been impressed with your writing skill and poker ability. You seem to have a clear insight on your life at the moment but may i just make two points. One the casino playing two noobs seemed very seedy imo. No offence but taking money off people by acting naive isn't so great imo. You obviously have great skill. Why not play poker on a level playing field....it would be a sweeter win. Also, yes i know you're young, relatively, but the "****** above average girls" comment is a gratuitous comment that shows a lack of respect for the female sex and though some may find it funny and say so, i just thought that it wasn't in keeping with how you come across usually.
I'm no prude Pat and i hope you don't take offence but i hope you do consider your actions. you are young  and we all need to reconsider our actions at times. Only in this way can we grow with a mature, balanced outlook on life.
This isn't an angry, "i'm outraged" post. It's only meant to flag up that, to my mind, these comments and actions didn't show you in your best light IMO. All the best in your studies and Gl at the tables.

    What a tremendous Post.

It's awkward to say these things without being rude, or seeming to be offensive or aggressive, but you've pitched that perfectly, Proffie.

I'd really like to thank you for your honesty and taking the time to put it into such a way, as to not come across offensive and condescending. I have to completely agree with you and appologise. All I can say is that at times, I'm trying to balance a lot of personal things in this thread with poker - which can be tough. Ultimately, I'm still naive and some of the things I say are distasteful and regretful, hopefully I can improve on this in the future.

Great comeback, Pat, respect to you for that.

What a refreshing change to see this sort of stuff well-debated & discussed.

I think the nut worst response I ever see on poker forums is "joke", which always makes me assume (books by covers, yes, I know it is wrong), that the author is wearing his baseball cap backwards.

Wow that watch. my mum bought my a seiko which had a blue face like that and metallic strap too. My son has it now and loves it. Probably 10% worth of your watch but more valuable to me as mum is gone and memories are golden. Hope your memories are golden .....All the best.

I think you put a very valid point across in a well worded way. That's a nice story about your watch and all I can say is thank you. My watch is definitely something that already has more sentimental value to me than anything, simply because I worked so hard for it.

    SNG 'Champ' Challenge

After the disaster that was the SPT. I'm back, trying to do all I can to salvage the month. The SNG Challenge seemed a great way for me to get some serious volume in and ultimately make some money. Unfortunately the last few days haven't strictly gone to plan. My volume has been phenomenal, earning 2k points over the last 2 days. Results, have been less impressive. The games are a lot harder than average and it doesn't help when you run bad in the £16.50 & £22 DYMs over a small sample. Earlier today, just when I was in full swing of a session, it crashed - causing me to lose a considerable amount and have somewhat of a mental breakdown.

I've always held a firm belief of quality over quantity, but with my cash for points bar rapidly moving in the right direction, it seems somewhat justified to break my cardinal rule.

Just when I need results the most, my confidence is at an all time low, I feel exhausted, isolated, and thanks to my session crashing, somewhat paranoid. A true test of determination and heart. I may have lost the battle so far, but with 3 and a half days left - the war has only just begun.

gl PAT with the SNG CHAMP CHALLENGE

if i thought i had any chance myself i might have given it a go,but just playing the £3's as i am atm,i've basically got no chance despite what some others might think and say.

it is imo a badly thought out promotion that once again favours the 'big boys' and does very little if anything for us 'little fish' who once again miss out.

    ps,

In my opinion, trying to make the top 6 at the £3s is unbelievably difficult/verging on impossible. You'd have to 12 table for probably 18-22 hours a day to have a chance, so I really feel for you. I think I have it bad at the £5s and £10s which requires me to play 10 hours a day to be in with a shot. Vent away!

    --

My last post wasn't to complain, just to show that I have it difficult at times. It's not all plain sailing being a DYM reg.

    Hi

Who is the best player @ £5.50/11 dym's? I suppose sharkscope is the best answer to that.

Do you find the £11 harder than £5.50? I was beating the £5.50 ones but moved upto £11 3 weeks ago but just breaking even.
Only a small sample but have not worked out if it's me/variance/better play?

I mean in terms of the hardest you've come across. I myself have a lot of respect for Jac's game, and a certain evil pingu when he decides to play.

Good work on moving up. All I can suggest is game selection, play when the game isn't full of regulars and you'll be crushing in no time.

    Best of luck Lee
