today i yet again took myself a step too far and bought the 3K BH then having gone out i had half an hour of bad play on cash.

what i am finding a nightmare is how to do my notes best, and what are the most important notes to have so what i keep doing is going into too much detail with the hand histories and can be still looking at hands after 5 hours.

what are the most important things to keep track of?

Here's a free bit of info from Harrington's online cash book. It's a bit dated but still quite useful IMO:)

    1. number of tables villain plays, standard BI amount and whether they auto top-up.

Easy to spot multitabling regs and probable recreational players with this info at a glance

    2. Preflop notes - making and calling 3b and 4b's, what he will go or call all in with.

Critical info IMO especially if they religiously do the same thing over again.

    3. Postflop notes - what he will go atw to the river with, how do they play draws? semibluff or c/c?, unusual bets including donking, do they pc top pair type hands on the turn?

Against regs who vary their betting patterns from player to player this can be less reliable but against either multitabling nits or recreational players it can be really useful. Eg: some players may always semibluff by shoving over a bet otf but just raise normally if they have a made hand.

Hope that's fairly useful as a guide to get you started and it didn't cost £30 for the book:)

my expirience on the micro stakes this afternoon has been a one of tables filled with all kicks of players. their were some loose donks which put hands such as AK in difficult spots when they missed, their were trappers and calling stations their was the odd reg, basically my play was varying so much.
i had overall lost lots on them table and only 1 of them got profit, that would have all sounded bad but i also had 1 nl20 table as well and that was great with a total win of £79.79 (buy in £31.24) the nl20 i just remained calm and put much more care into my hands.
if their is one thing yesterday night and this afternoon has shown me it's that the way money is won in poker best is when you accept small pots. even when it's calling station in the hand they will only call bets when they hit i see them folding lots of flops.

points tally so far this month 930
    BR is £293

Honest question for you. How do you view my play? I will post why after you answer, as a view on nl10.

i will go into better detail with a few of the hands that stick out tomorrow and explain about my thoughts on your play better then.

also i'll send a message on a way we can talk about them in detail.

not keeping track of my winnings and losses has cause my BR tohave gone right down to bare bones and i think now i'm thinking myself that i'm getting results orientated.

even though my BR is now down to £114 i can still see myself playing a few nl10. the trouble i've had is i become bored quite easy so started getting over aggressive or started buying MTTs.

what i'm thinking of doing as a way to get round being so bored is to play 3 full ring tables on 888 poker as those tables tend to have lots more action than micro stakes 6 max.

i won't always be playing the nl10 sometimes i will play action tables as they are good too.
what i need to accept most of all is that i will not get my BR back as quickly as i lost it.

truthfully if this does not teach me the damage MTTs do to a BR i don't know what will because this is the second time i've let myself down through MTT hyperness.

my aunty, carer and very close friend were all saying to me "craig with draw that £1'000 as poker is total luck" i refused to do it and said i could prove it so they all expected me to still be over the 1K mark now. so i have no one to blame but myself for being greedy.

my first session today was a good one on sky but not as good on 888 poker.
my 3 sky tables got profits £1.14 £10.24 and £7.51 so noy i've got a BR of £133.22

as for the 888 poker that was just break even.

after have a break i'm going to play some SnG DYM as they are the type i can manage to play fine.

I'm cracking around with a few small buy in MTTs myself at the mo except last night when I used my C4P rewards to buy in to the £33 BH.

Thing is that the variance is much higher than cash so you need a much larger roll. I'm sure I read somewhere that it is suggested that you should have 100 times the buy in you play so to play £5 MTTs needs a BR of at least £500, £10 ones £1000 and so on... You only need to play a few £30-50 ones and bust out to lose a lot fairly quickly.

The one thing I do find sometimes is the difficulty of playing MTTs or SNGs and CASH at the same time as the strategy required to win is so much different. Whereas I will happily ship TPGK on the flop in an MTT with 20-30BB's doing it on cash for 100BB is usually a losing play so playing the two together can make you do things very differently.

Really hope you spin this up soon, as from what I've seen you've built up from the days of NL4 and become a decent player at NL10-20. As I can vouch for, playing above your BR be it cash or MTTs is the quickest way to hit bustoville - I used to do it all the time (spin £50 upto £500-1000 and play NL50,100 or 200), play higher as I got greedy and within a few days I was broke or withdrew a fraction of what I should've done!

the poker i played today was had a much better bankroll management than recently
the money i won in the cash thish afternoon  i put that towards a £750 BH the mini and the orford league.
i also won 1 of 2 DYMs and finished 1st in a six max so i used that in 1 semi and 3 all in sats. I did go in the LR semi too when i didn't take the buy in for the STT into account, which i should of did.

this evening i also had 2 cash tables and they both again went very well with a profit of £8.83 and £12.50.
so overall my cash winnings today was £40.22 and the SnG winning was £13 (£19.50 £10)-(2x5.50 DYM +£5.50 6max)

the mini, the orford league and the sats failed but i did very good in £750 BH and also got entry into 3K BH which i registered into just prior to my entry so that icould cancel it and i will play in the 3K tomorrow as i need an early night.

the £750 BH was a great one and i finished 7th in that and won myself £28.68 (£22.62+£11.81 5HP-£5.75)
i did start off very lucky in it. the thing was their is a head now availible so i could be ahead just as often as i am behind as i see lots jamming flush draws and straight draws in these spots

the blinds had only got to 20/40 when i got a second big amount of chips this time with 105s in BB limped pot flop comes 10h 4d 2d and the SB bet so i raised then the turn came 5c i bet 600 then on the river came a second 5 so i bet half pot but i could have did a full pot and he would still probably have called with what was Q 10. it was just 2 hands later when i got a 3rd big pot this time it was KKvs K7 i made a 3bet with it preflop and the K7o called then he gets the worst he could ask for when the flop came Kc 7h 3c so he might be thinking he has a good hand from that loose call but finds out he is not getting what he hoped so my chip stack after these 3 hands was now 9305 (150+BB)

their was one bad decision when the MTT was at it's bubble

after having a well organised session on friday what happens i got back my old state where i was playing MTT cash SnG and sats all at once so mistakes were happening all the time.

this after noon i had one good cash table and got profit of £25.02
this evening was nothing like that and i had losses of 21p £6.78 £2.48 £14.43 and £3.28.

the problem tonight was the 3K BHthat i won entry into started at 9:30 and i couldn't find any cheap BH MTT around the next one started at 10:05 for £2.30 and the 1K BH was not until 10:40, so i ended up playing cash tables to keep me from getting bored, the problem is i started mixing up my play.
i should have just accepted the £11 cash from that MTT freeroll sat and rather than use it in the 3K BH i should just do what i did friday.

sunday is another day when the main and mini are not BH and although i like the super roller it's far to expensive.
so instead of doing sats for that i will first make sure i get a good winnings on cash tables then if i manage to win a profit that is good enough for my BR i will buy into the 500 BH (2.30) and the 750 BH (5.75) the benifit about them two bounty hunters is they are both starting at very siimular points and i can just avoid having to play cash tables.

when i look at my winnings from the 750 BH yesterday it turns out that the 1K BH has a winning that is no better than the 750 BH but the 250 BH that starts about a simular time to the 1K BH has a smaller winnings that the 500 BH at 8:05

the best thing about the £500 BH the £750 BH the DTDs the orford league and the mini is they all start at simular times, so i will already know my total cash table profit and can decide how many of them i can enter. DTD and orford are certain the decision on which of the mini BH the £750 BH and the £500 BH are where the cash play part.

the best thing of all about those MTT is if i do go out early i still stand a good chance of getting time to play cash, something i don't have the chance of when i played in the 1K BH and £250 BH tonight.

I am just not in the mode to play poker at the minute and will take a break away from it for a few days

the bad run looks to have stopped and things now are getting back on track again.
today i started off with a cash session on 4 tables and got 2 good profits (£6.56, £14.58), 1 bad loss (-£5.93) and 1 mini loss (-77p). I was later only going to use it in 1 semi as it wasn't that much money won and i still did want some winnings kept, but then i changed my mind as i had a great profit on a NL20 table where i won £20.11, i did loose -£1.40 on a nl10p at the time too but still i now had a profit of £33.15 from cash so i went a step further and entered 3 all in sats (-£5.40), the £750 BH (-£5.75), the £500 BH (£2.30) and as i won an all in sat into the main i went into the mini (-£5.50)
so overall i spent £26.15 of the £33.15.

the MTTs themselves were a mixture of good and bad.
the one i did very well in was the £750 BH which got me profit of £50.15 (£43+£12.90HP-£5.75)
i also did very good in the orford league and finishe 8th in that one winning profit of 4.34 (£7.64-£3.30)
i was going very well in the 5K BH then things changed when i called an all in with 109s running into KK so my chipstack was now just an average one and it was not long before i went out so overall i lost 80p (£1.50HP-£2.30)
the mini BH was virtually the same all through as hands just kept away from me.

the worst MTTs but were the main event and the £3K BH (i entered this as i was in the money of the £750bH), their i am sitting in a main and 3K BH yet my table in both these make the £750 BH £500BH and the mini all look like pros, just a few minutes before i went out of them.

so overall my day has been a great day with £33.15 cash profit and £24.69 MTT profit

    my BR is now £185.42
    points tally 3442

sometimes it doesn't even need to be MTTs as it can just be a case of very weak play and i think sky is now getting very much like that. the other day i saw two with AA doing just a call today i saw it done by KK. time and time again it seems to be a sign that they take the BBV section too serious as their is massive numbers of posts stating the river card causes them to go behind. so i did have £20 profit but then it turned into a loss of £90 through nits.

to show why i think they do fear too much about the river card here was a hand which i was lucky with today
i could under stand him checking the turn if he was thinking i might be ahead with AA AK A10 KK or 1010 but the fact he then jams it following my bet shows to me that really he is more in fear of the river card.

How are you even playing NL10 with your bankroll? Never mind NL20?

Minimum 50 bi's for each level imo.

if i was having long sessions i wouldn't want to play on nl10 but i'm going to now have a few short sessions each day.

what i'm going to have is 1 nl10p table up and 4-5 nl 4p tables.
in my two sessions so far today the nl10p tables won £8.34 and £3.46.

My poker today has been a day I should not forget in a hurry, all the problems I've had in recent weeks with MTT bankroll management and length of time on cash without a break seemed to be history, today I decided  to keep away from MTTs altogether and spent just 1.5-2 hours max on cash tables before taking a break and by doing that I've not had one stressful moment at all knowing that if the current session was a bad one I will still have had a good one earlier or like today, a session to spare later on.

going of my post so far you'll have guess my first session was not a good one and I ended up almost break even which was thanks to some very good river luck when my set struck quads and also a quads which was easy to hide thanks to 3 of the cards being on the board. the second session was a much better one with profit on all but one table whilst the 3rd session was a mixture. the case with a nl10p table was I had 1 nl10 on the first session and second session but just did nl4 and action tables this evening.

    the session winnings were
    session 1 42p
    session 2 £10.63
    session 3 £12.48
    overall £23.53

todays 3 sessions didn't go so well all for different reasons.
session one was no different to the monday session 1, unlike mondays session 1  today i  just had 5 nl4 and overall the outcome was 69p

session 2 was a session i just shouldn't have even bothered with. part of the problem with that session is i spent more time that i first thought talking on a blog and as it was already 7pm i didn't bother planning my session as i knew springwatch started 8pm to make matters worse the table aggression was very high so the mind needed to be fully focused. basically that should not have been a session and i lost £13.22

session 3 was a good but unlucky one really, maybe it's revenge for my quad destruction on monday. what ever the reason i basically started bad and was suffering from lots of cooldowns. i did manage to still make profit of £2.93.

    so
    session 1 not changed much
    session 2 planned badly
session 3 a cooldown with me at the bad side.

    69p -£13.22 £2.93

    -£9.60 overall

today was a miserable  day, a day which i should have just stay off the tables before i took my bath in other words i was never relaxed enough.
session 1 i had my mam over and she can talk for england, the last think i want is people talking in my ear all day and so what started off as a break even session suddenly changed into a bad session and saw a loss of -£10.39.

session 2 i did do a few sats in that one and the signs were clear when i went out of the semi that i was not really in the mood to play poker, i did for a minute look as though i was going to chase losses but for once i controlled myself and didn't go overboard instead i just used what was deposited for MTTs(£30) leaving my BR alone. i did loose -£8.03 on some cash tables.

session 3 the poker games were prepared just as i should have them prepared, i was relaxed and calm right from the start and the outcome was not a loss, instead i got a what i aim to get, profit £29.21.

overall the day has seen a loss of -£15.61.

but without MTT (deposit was used) i made a winnings of £10.79

the last my cash reached £1K it was just luck really as i used MTTs mostly, the cash profit played little part. This time i should be able to stay with cash most of the time and avoid too many MTTs as my last few days has taught me to spread my playing time out over the whole day rather than playing the same table for 4 hours in the evening.

today was another good day and i had 2 sessions, first session saw profit of £1.68, the second session was much better with a profit in that session of £15.41.
my overall points total for this month is 5125.

well i thought i wouldn't have time for a 3rd session but grove was knocked out after 8 rounds so i decided to take an extra session before bed. the session was going well on most tables apart from on the nl10 where a lost £6.75 but overall i made a profit of £5.60 so my total today is £22.69.

sunday was a roller coaster ride, i began the day with a profit of £9.85 in a 1.5 hour cash session. After a lunch break i choose to go into a sat for the summer roller semi (£5.30) and was unfortunate in that one, then i did a timed MTT and 2 SnGos(£2.20 DYM 3.30 6max), the SnGos didn't go well and i lost both but i wasn't so bad in the timed MTT and got a profit of £13.12(£18.62-£5.50)

Later i did another sat for the late reg semi a £3.30 timed MTT and 3 more SnGo (£3.30 DYm and 2x£2.20DYM). the £3.30 DYM and both MTT didn't go to play  this time my luck seemed with the £2.20 DYMs which both saw me pass the bubble. My worst part of the came from that cash session and i had a very heavy loss in that one of -£20.73, i was doing well in a £750BH at the time so just left the tables and focused fully on the BH which started of well but changed when the blinds moderate, the table still had mostly limpers and calling stations so again i lost most of my chips in that period.

After having a good break and getting myself relaxed i tried one last cash session, the session itself was planned originally to be a short one but it wasn't too long before i choose to remain on the cash tables for a long session as the night was a night for money to be won really since the cash tables were packed with calling stations. the start of the session was ok but i then had an hour of bad aggression and it caused a lot of losses including one of my very good cash stacks. what i then decided to do was switch onto various tables and it wasn't long before i got back to winning ways again overall that session won £6.89

before i finish i have a question about getting chips in the mid and late stages of an MTT

    Q. against the fit and fold or loose passive type will i stand more chance of winning a hand if i raised 9h6h on the button than i would do by raising AK OOP?

today was a day where the winnings come from MTTs with me managing to pass the bubble in 4/7 MTTs and winning one too.

the first one was a sat into the 6pm semi which i was able to go past the bubble of too, the main mind was not so good with my hands always getting rubbish cards but i still didn't loose my moneys worth because i had won £33 due to me getting into the main via an early semi.
the other MTTs i did were the orford league the mini and the £750BH, out of those 3 Mtts i got past the bubble in the mini finishing 13th and the £750Bh i went all the way and won it.

    luckme00203£46.30 + £15.06 Head Prizes4
the cash tables didn't go well and so i didn't spend that long on them  knowing i was filled with confidence from my MTTs, overall the cash tables saw a total loss of -£12.26

so my day has finished like this
    MTT £211.98
    cash-£12.26
    total £199.72

Today I didn't play any poker, most of the time has been spent on reading fully about bankroll management and discipline.

Wednesday I was down to my last £20 and decided to just try a nl20 cash table as I had over £150 cash to come from the C4P promo, the nl20 table went very well and proves to me that I have certainly got a good cash game in me.

The time I won orford league and finished well in a BH the next day, i got a good BR but went over the top playing MTTs and lost most of it, I managed to make a good cash sum from a Thursday night main event and reached got myself a BR of 1K, I lost that going overboard with MTTs too. Now i challenge myself to change this bad BR management once and for all because if I don't, I will have to stop myself from playing poker altogether because the last two times I had a good BR lost, I have been putting lots of deposits into my account causing me to start all over again.

I say to people that poker isn't gambling, well it is gambling if I do what I have done on the last two occasions, so from sunday things will change.

Good man!! Shame it's taken you this long to realise that though

Good luck. Good BR management is imperative if you want to play this game and make money. I know its not all about making money but a lot of our enjoyment comes from winning AND making money.

Its never a sign of weakness to drop down levels, its actually a sign of strength. Set small goals and be disciplined.
