Craig why do you not top up your stack? Missing so much profit when you have moster hands against bad players. Posted by calcalfold[/QUOTE TBH you don't know how hard it find sometimes to get decent pots in this hand for instance i get my up down straight draw so try getting the pot built ready incase i hit the straight but both villian fold right away it's as if they think i have the A
But what if he had K4, you just got him to fold the best hand, nice work.
The purpose of betting draws is not just to build a pot to win if you hit, its to give you a second way of winning the pot, ie without showdown, in this case the latter worked.
I play a lot of 4nl right now. On the whole the standard of play is abysmal, excluding perhaps 5 or 6 players. I just think sitting with anything other than max buy in is missed value.
How do you manage 6 tables? does the small size work ok with you? it confuses the hell out of me - far too cluttered. So really 4 is my limit right now
Looking to get a VGA cable and hook up to my TV soon, 6 tables here we go!

hooking up to your tv will make no difference if the screen resolution is the same. just because its a bigger screen doesnt always mean you will fit more tables on it. you need to go on screen resolution as to how many you can fit on your screen. the bigger the resolution the more you can fit.
mini view does take a little getting used to, i admit, but i dont find it cluttered. i was always a little wary of the difference at first but the more i played the better it looked. if i didnt play in mini view i wouldnt be playing 12 tables at a time like now
In Response to Re: craigcu12 diary : i do top up my stack but it's just not as often because i'm on 6 tables at once so sometime will forget to to up my stack also it helps make it easier to work out my total profits. generally if i reach the />£3 mark i the go for the top up. btw atleast i got one mega hand today larrymel30 Small blind £0.02 £0.02 £3.77 garner909 Big blind £0.04 £0.06 £3.25 Your hole cards K A Frogmella Fold craigcu12 Raise £0.20 £0.26 £3.96 slimy101 Call £0.20 £0.46 £3.14 alliance01 Fold larrymel30 Raise £0.34 £0.80 £3.43 garner909 Fold craigcu12 All-in £3.96 £4.76 £0.00 slimy101 All-in £3.14 £7.90 £0.00 larrymel30 All-in £3.43 £11.33 £0.00 craigcu12 Unmatched bet £0.37 £10.96 £0.37 larrymel30 Show 9 9 craigcu12 Show K A slimy101 Show Q J Flop 3 5 K Turn Q River 10 craigcu12 Win Pair of Kings £10.13 £10.50 this hand probably sums up how bad people are sometime on these tables arlhe Small blind £0.02 £0.02 £4.27 craigcu12 Big blind £0.04 £0.06 £3.96 Your hole cards J J wellswiz06 Fold TINTIN Fold carrotttop Raise £0.16 £0.22 £3.80 toon222 Call £0.16 £0.38 £3.68 arlhe Fold craigcu12 Raise £0.48 £0.86 £3.48 carrotttop Fold toon222 Call £0.36 £1.22 £3.32 Flop A J 3 craigcu12 Check toon222 Bet £0.32 £1.54 £3.00 craigcu12 Call £0.32 £1.86 £3.16 Turn 4 craigcu12 Bet £0.76 £2.62 £2.40 toon222 Call £0.76 £3.38 £2.24 River K craigcu12 Bet £1.69 £5.07 £0.71 toon222 Call £1.69 £6.76 £0.55 craigcu12 Show J J toon222 Muck 3 3 craigcu12 Win Three Jacks £6.25 £6.96 this villian hits his set ok he does a bet on the flop then when i do a bet on the turn which is just blank he goes for the call what possibly can i represent thier other thank KcQc or Kc Jc i would have went for the reraise anyday. i think your being a little harsh with your description of the villian in hand 2. i'd be more concerned that you left him with money after the hand had played out when he should have had zero. i think you played it badly. im not a lover of how you played the hand post flop but on the river the villain had less than the size of the pot behind, it looks around 3/4, so why only bet half pot. missed value there me thinks

i've got to admit the reason for my check on the flop was i saw that A and thought to myself if i jumped straight in with a bet then i would be very likely to scare him away so i will give him a free card. when he bet i thought maybe he has an A which i would have put most villians on.

the simple fact is you flopped set over set here and still never stacked opponent and it mainly boils down to your bet sizing.
forgetting the check on the flop, why bet less than half pot on the turn. bet more here the villain has less left to call river bets, so your river bet doesnt then look big in relation to pot size.
as played the villain has 3/4 of the pot size behind, why wasnt your bet to put him all in instead of half potting it?
the way you played it with checking the flop and leading the turn stinks of a large set imo and the villain could have been wary of this and thats why they just called down saving themselves money. it might not be a large amount but its still 14 big blinds you lost out on
i had a bad start today but things managed to turn round after i got knocked out the 4K BH that i went in through a sat. over all my balance is £156 the way it became was with losses of 12.75 in three tourneys and £1.21, £7.36 £5 0.97, £10.78, £3.87, £0.14 and £0.57 in cash games
the profits were £8.31, £5.13, £3.74, £2.24, £2.79, £5.85 so overall my cash tables got me a loss of £1.84
as much as it was disapointing to have suffered a loss today the fish and maniacs again were the main cause here my shove still doesn't stop a villian call K10

this villian should thank me for showing him how to play pairs like that other times i would have held KJ which he would have lost his QQ all because he just calls
we cant get action every time we flop a monster, its about maximising the times we do. thats why im a little critical of the other hand i was discussing. you need to remember that when you make a big hand you want to win big, so to win big you got to bet big.
ideally your aiming to get the others stack but you want to bet enough on flop and turn so your river bet will be less that a pot size bet. so the more you can get in on flop and turn the less you have to try and get in on the river.
i would say keep your bets to 1/2 pot minimum but personal preference is nearer to 3/4. this alows you to build a juicy pot worth winning. even if they decide to fold the turn for example its cost your opponent more meaning we win more.
i did hit a few quads today as well one of them being probably thanks to another villian who thinks it's a good idea limping in with premium pairs also with idiot being a maniac who calls anything he wasted the chance of mega money from him

could have made a good recovery in my last session if it wasn't for these very unlucky hands one villian alone twice got the card or cards he needed hand one i shove preflop which he calls and so i hit the A which is the very card i need and so think to myself this is a good win but what happens he get the one card that he needs to save himself on the river meaning i lost 5.57

i was fairly certain he held the straight but considering i held the set i still called for the chance of the FH or split pot overall it was me 2- villian 1 as i got him with my AA against his QQ on the flop
well today has been one of them days where time and time again villian fold as soon as i do a raise or bet post flop. these are clearly the full reasons why i am having to make them 20p bets preflop. if i just bet 12p then once i do a bet on the flop the villians fold unless they hit monsters which they go with constant calls this then leaves me so confused with how to play my hands from the flop because quite simply they just don't do enough aggression even when they have strong hands. i thought a blank card would mean nothing has changed but this villian must think that it does change things. he decided to jump in with a bet right away so i raised then made another bet on the turn as it was blank but what happens he folds
Hey craig, maybe some of the players are adjusting to your style of play and giving you alot of respect for having hands when you put in big raises now, take a note of these guys and hopefully you can take advantage of your image and put in some well timed bluffs every so often. Keep up the good work.

also i did hit them lucky card i needed to save me
That call with KK was terrible - calling £2.94 into about a 44p pot where you are ahead about 3% of the time where thye may have gone crazy with 2 pair.
The call with AQ was also poor.
Your game and bankroll will vastly improve when you are able to lay down premium starting hands
well i've decided to now do a more constant betting with all my hand either 20p UTG and UTG+1 or 12p if it's the cut of and button. bluffs are fairly easy most times for all the money i might loose from these i easily get it back either by big hands or bluffs that did work like this one
if it was 5p/10p or 10p/20p then yes i would fold AQ but i see AQ just as good as AK because these tables get villians shoving with a much great range including KQ KJ even QJ
this hand was hard to choose but i put too much in already so had to try making to call for the chance of a FH

here well i've got the pot large so i thought might as well try getting all his money in if he's ahead well hope for the best
this villian thought he could bluff his way to getting the pot but with me being on the button and holding the straight draw i fealt i had to call then i get a flush draw on the turn and couldn't see the villian likely holding a big flush so decided to call then i hit my straight and got just what i wanted, a shove

here well what can i say other than next time he does a bet slow down a bit but not too much as all he will ever get called by here is sets most times although this nl4 will get flush draws and Ax callers too.
this evening has had some very bad luck given to me both with cash and tourneys and it all started with this hand i was waiting and waiting missing almost every time i called leading up to this hand. the i hit a set on the flop so get myself all excited with itand do the shove on the river thinking the villian might hold either an A or two pair but what happened he has the straight so after such good play getting myself in this £55 4K BH through a 5.50 sat i get loose with my first strong hand
if that wasn't bad enough i also got so big beat in cash too a person who had been constantly moaning at myself me for alway beating his AA with KK or KK with AK, hmm I wonder if he was moaning about my QQ loosing to his rivered set having gone all in preflop with JJ against my QQ?
Hey Craig looks like one of them frustrating days we all encounter, just keep doing things right and working on your game and i'm sure you will continue to grow your bankroll. You had my vote for the top of the posts thing so well done, always take a keen interest in how your getting on and the effort you put into your diary is great. Keep up the good work!
Ps the last couple of posts you have overbett all in on the flop with flush draws? how comes you are doing this? do you do this with all your draws? might be something to look at and maybe bet in a different way as if you are always jamming your flush draws your play will become easy for others to read when you have big hands that you bet normally, e.g. flop top pair bet pot, flop flush draw jam all in...

then two flush draws i did were maiinly down to a tilt i was in after the no. of times villians were hitting their card when they had nothing during the shove i.e K4 calling with K high, K7 calling reraise with K high then an extra gutshot, and 44 calling with an under pair on the flop. so in my mind it seem like shoves always give rubbish the winner they needed i.e my second flush draw got it's diamond. my normal play is fold preflop
Comments
The purpose of betting draws is not just to build a pot to win if you hit, its to give you a second way of winning the pot, ie without showdown, in this case the latter worked.
I play a lot of 4nl right now. On the whole the standard of play is abysmal, excluding perhaps 5 or 6 players. I just think sitting with anything other than max buy in is missed value.
How do you manage 6 tables? does the small size work ok with you? it confuses the hell out of me - far too cluttered. So really 4 is my limit right now
Looking to get a VGA cable and hook up to my TV soon, 6 tables here we go!
mini view does take a little getting used to, i admit, but i dont find it cluttered. i was always a little wary of the difference at first but the more i played the better it looked. if i didnt play in mini view i wouldnt be playing 12 tables at a time like now

forgetting the check on the flop, why bet less than half pot on the turn. bet more here the villain has less left to call river bets, so your river bet doesnt then look big in relation to pot size.
as played the villain has 3/4 of the pot size behind, why wasnt your bet to put him all in instead of half potting it?
the way you played it with checking the flop and leading the turn stinks of a large set imo and the villain could have been wary of this and thats why they just called down saving themselves money. it might not be a large amount but its still 14 big blinds you lost out on
i had a bad start today but things managed to turn round after i got knocked out the 4K BH that i went in through a sat.
over all my balance is £156
the way it became was with losses of 12.75 in three tourneys and £1.21, £7.36 £5 0.97, £10.78, £3.87, £0.14 and £0.57 in cash games
the profits were £8.31, £5.13, £3.74, £2.24, £2.79, £5.85
so overall my cash tables got me a loss of £1.84
here my shove still doesn't stop a villian call K10
on villian bets so i call with my top pair then the maniac shove and the first villian calls leaving me with no choice but to put atleast on of them on either a set or over pair
other times i would have held KJ which he would have lost his QQ all because he just calls
ideally your aiming to get the others stack but you want to bet enough on flop and turn so your river bet will be less that a pot size bet. so the more you can get in on flop and turn the less you have to try and get in on the river.
i would say keep your bets to 1/2 pot minimum but personal preference is nearer to 3/4. this alows you to build a juicy pot worth winning. even if they decide to fold the turn for example its cost your opponent more meaning we win more.
hope the above makes some sense.
atleast i got some good amounts of cash
5.78
£4-£5 3 hands
3.73
£2-£3 2 hands
£1-£2 11 hands
my losses got me
8.09 although i should have actually made 8.09
3.52
£1-£2 14 hands
the thing i think causes the greatest of difficulty is the no. of loose passive nits i find on these tables.
could have made a good recovery in my last session if it wasn't for these very unlucky hands
one villian alone twice got the card or cards he needed
hand one i shove preflop which he calls and so i hit the A which is the very card i need and so think to myself this is a good win but what happens he get the one card that he needs to save himself on the river meaning i lost 5.57
here villian 1 raises then villian 2 shoves so i went for it myself and villian 1 had KK but lucky for me i hit the J on the flop
overall it was me 2- villian 1 as i got him with my AA against his QQ on the flop
these are clearly the full reasons why i am having to make them 20p bets preflop. if i just bet 12p then once i do a bet on the flop the villians fold unless they hit monsters which they go with constant calls this then leaves me so confused with how to play my hands from the flop because quite simply they just don't do enough aggression even when they have strong hands.
i thought a blank card would mean nothing has changed but this villian must think that it does change things. he decided to jump in with a bet right away so i raised then made another bet on the turn as it was blank but what happens he folds
Craig, by definition a nit is not loose
well i decided to play poker all through friday night into saturday morning and found it much easier to get some callers with my decent hands.
my best hand of the night was this
The call with AQ was also poor.
Your game and bankroll will vastly improve when you are able to lay down premium starting hands
well i've decided to now do a more constant betting with all my hand either 20p UTG and UTG+1 or 12p if it's the cut of and button.
bluffs are fairly easy most times for all the money i might loose from these i easily get it back either by big hands or bluffs that did work like this one
this hand was hard to choose but i put too much in already so had to try making to call for the chance of a FH
on a better note after a few days where i was struggling to get all ins called by villians today atleast two villians made the call after i went all in later than preflop
over all my bankroll is £106
afte 1.5 hours on the tables i'v managed to make £12.55 playing 6 tables
the tables them selves got me £5.90 £5.05 £4.21 £1.11 -£2.95 and -0.77
hand wise i got losses over a pound of 5.31 4.24 1.38 and 1.29
my profit in hands were £4.51 £3.62 £3.14 £2.42 £2.12 and 6 hands £1-£2
my biggest loss was this one where the villian trapped me
this villian thought he could bluff his way to getting the pot but with me being on the button and holding the straight draw i fealt i had to call then i get a flush draw on the turn and couldn't see the villian likely holding a big flush so decided to call then i hit my straight and got just what i wanted, a shove
this evening has had some very bad luck given to me both with cash and tourneys and it all started with this hand
if that wasn't bad enough i also got so big beat in cash tooi was waiting and waiting missing almost every time i called leading up to this hand. the i hit a set on the flop so get myself all excited with itand do the shove on the river thinking the villian might hold either an A or two pair but what happened he has the straight so after such good play getting myself in this £55 4K BH through a 5.50 sat i get loose with my first strong hand
a person who had been constantly moaning at myself me for alway beating his AA with KK or KK with AK, hmm I wonder if he was moaning about my QQ loosing to his rivered set having gone all in preflop with JJ against my QQ?
their was one thing that went good for me this evening the mini rebuy because in that i managed to win 21.09 finishing 19th.
This month's Top of the Posts tournament happens to fall on a Saturday again so it should make for some great rail on the night.
Ps the last couple of posts you have overbett all in on the flop with flush draws? how comes you are doing this? do you do this with all your draws? might be something to look at and maybe bet in a different way as if you are always jamming your flush draws your play will become easy for others to read when you have big hands that you bet normally, e.g. flop top pair bet pot, flop flush draw jam all in...
i.e K4 calling with K high, K7 calling reraise with K high then an extra gutshot, and 44 calling with an under pair on the flop. so in my mind it seem like shoves always give rubbish the winner they needed i.e my second flush draw got it's diamond.
my normal play is fold preflop
