Thanks a lot chaps. Breaking through a barrier after a plateau always feels good.
No buy-in jumps are imminent. My 40 buy-in rule allows me to play at £11 or below until I reach £880 at which point £22 games will also permitted. In practice I play very few £11 games, just the occasional STT here and there. The two daytime £11 Bounty Hunters start at a time that's inconvenient to me most days. The £5.75s run far more often, that's where I'm usually found.

Being overolled by playing £5.75 games is not a bad thing.

Absolutely. Being over-rolled cannot be a bad thing, to be honest my 40 buy-in rule is very aggressive for MTTs and the risk of rapid downswing isn't completely eliminated.
I probably would need to increase it to 60+ buy-ins if I played freeze-outs only.
My preferred game Bounty Hunters are lower variance because half the prize pool (the head-prizes) gets spread through the field and you often leave with a bounty or two even when you fail to cash.
I played in another two £5.75 Bounty Hunters today.
The first was rubbish. I was never above starting stack at any point, the only two hands of note were folding under pressure when my pocket KK was obviously no good with AQxQ on the board. Then my exit hand; I 4-bet shoved my last 15BB with pocket JJ from the button over the small blind's 3-bet with A5s. He made the call and flopped two of his three outs, then filled up to a full-house on the river.
Deja-vu; the second game went much better.
Much like yesterday I made plenty of decent hands to play with (though no quads this time!) which helped me go on a deep run and spend most of the tournament as chipleader. I made a few big holds on the way and got lucky once in the mid-stages when my AQs outdraw pocket KK aipf to bust an opponent, though it was a pot I could afford to lose having him and the rest of my table well covered at the time.
After the bubble burst and we broke to final table I was running over the table for a while and had 50% of the chips in play with 5 left. Unfortunately it gradually went downhill from there on. My run of cards dried-up, I started finding myself second best at most showdowns and my stack gradually dwindled. With three left I was the shortie. I fought hard and staged a mini-revival to get HU but it wasn't to be. I finished second when I got my stack in with nut-flush draw, a gutshot and what could have been the best hand anyway, but ran into a flopped 5-high flush which held up.
Despite my failure to take this one down after being in such a strong position at FT I'm pretty pleased to make another semi-decent score so soon after yesterdays win and make further progress towards my goal.
Nearly 2/3rds of the way there now. As usual there'll be no poker for me on Friday, I'll next be back on the tables on Saturday afternoon hoping this mini-heater (£123 profit in 2 days) continues.
No joy for me today, my short sharp heater came to an abrupt end with no return from 6 MTTs entered. There were plenty of reckless weekend gamblers in my games , tables were much softer than I those I managed to beat on Wednesday and Thursday but I couldn't make enough big holds to get anywhere this time.
Probably my best chance of the day to get a decent run going was in an afternoon £5.75 Bounty Hunter; I got check/jammed my stack with 60% equity on the flop for a full double and a pot worth the chiplead with a third of the field left, I got a bad call but it wasn't to be.
In the evening I had a brief flirtation with UKOPS entering the Micro and Mini. I played well, ran horrendously. In the Micro (£2.20 Rebuy) I had AA aipf against 22 and KQ for a massive pot worth the chiplead at the time. I flopped top set but still managed to lose to a running straight, that came soon after I'd lost another 4K pot after getting it in good when my two pairs were unable to fade a flopped flush draw.
In the Mini I was an early casualty when my flopped two pairs couldn't fade a flush draw (again) with an all-shortie also in the pot. The diamond dealt on the river was the difference between a 5k stack in level 1 with two head-prizes and being left with 160 chips!
Tomorrow I'm out all day, so no poker for me again. I'll next be back at poker tables after I finish work on Monday.
All I entered today were the two morning £3.30 Bounty Hunters. Being a Bank Holiday there were quite a few wild ones at the tables so I employed a tight/aggresive approach in the early stages of both, this being the optimal strategy in the circumstances in my opinion.
In the 10-45 I ran fairly deep but busted close to the money when I 3-bet jammed A6s from the BB into a button open and was called by A4. A chop was the most likely outcome, but the villain binked a 4 on the run-out to bust me.
For the first half of the 9-45 I was fairly anonymous at a wild table, hovering below average until the bubble was close. The only hands of note involving me in all that time were an AK /> AJ aipf hold to double off a maniac and losing a pair < overcards flip when trying to bust a shortie.
When we broke to two tables left (with 10 spots paid) I suddenly sprung into life with a short sharp heater that propeled me into a big chiplead which I didn't relinquish the rest of the way. It all started with two huge chunks of luck against the unfortunate kopite1984 who was very unlucky to bust at my hands. He'd been playing a strong aggressive game so when he opened to 3BB on the button I considered my AJ on the SB to be well ahead of his range and pushed my 18BB stack in the middle. He had the top of his range this time, but I outdrew his AK for a very lucky double. A couple of orbits later he open shoved his last 10BB from the SB into my AT on the BB. Again I considered my holecards ahead of his range and made the call. For the second time I found myself well behind when he flipped over pocket TT, however I flopped two aces and he was toast. Kopite was very sporting, he took it well and wished me good luck.
From there on it went like a dream and it would have been almost impossible not to win. I got lucky again to bust a shortie who came seventh with A9 /> JJ aipf. The player who finished sixth gave a fine demostration of why it's unwise to open-limp strong pocket pairs; he let me see a free flop with 85o on the BB when I probably would have folded to any open-raise. The 679r flop gave me the second nuts so I was very pleased when he donk over-jammed at the flop in terrible shape with his over-pair. A few hands later I won a QJ > 66 flip to bust the fourth place finisher.
My only misfortune came with three players left. I got disconnected when my home internet connection went down, though I had the cushion of a big lead at the time. After about five minutes I got myself back in the game by tethering through my Iphone's 3G connection. There were still three left, I kept my cool and got straight back to work hoovering up the chips.
HU play didn't last long and ended with a harsh cooler for my opponent. When we both flopped trips, my 87 against his 57 on a 677 flop stacks were destined to go in. The 5 on the turn gave my opponent the lead, though there weren't many chips in the pot at that stage because we were both playing our monsters slowly. He was condemned by the 8 on the river which also completed a spades flush draw. Stacks went in and victory was mine.
A new highest balance and I find myself over two thirds of the way to my goal for the first time, I can be nothing but happy with that
I just watched you run A-K pre into a pair 5's an the 5's held, unlucky. Although it is nice to see a small pair hold occasionally. Posted by OHIMGOOD
Yeah, it was a weird spot. Open-shoving 40BB with pocket 55 from the button with a 34BB stack on the SB is probably an unwise play, perhaps my call was unwise too. Obviously he didn't fancy playing against me post-flop. Anyhow it worked out for the guy this time so good luck to him.
First up was the 10-45am Bounty Hunter. I spent most of the tournament as a shortie devoid of cards. Long before the bubble arrived I was maintaining my stack by using my tight image to get light shoves through. My exit for a min-cash and two head-prizes came very soon after the bubble went; I open-shoved my ace-high on the button into AK in the blinds.
In the afternoon I tried my luck in a £5.75 Bounty Hunter. I enjoyed a flying start with two bounties and the early chip lead. I busted in a high variance mid-stages spot. I held Aks on the SB with a 9BB shortie on the BB. The chip leader on the button open-shoved 40BB. I considered AA and KK were both unlikely so I made the call with my 34BB and lost a race against pocket 55. With hindsight maybe I should have folded and waited for a better spot, however had I won the flip I'd have most of the villain's stack and be sitting pretty on a healthy chiplead with only one third of the field left. He who dares wins (sometimes).
I pretty much broke even today though I'm still very pleased with the way it went. I gave myself two chances of a deep run. The more often you give yourself those opportunities the more often it'll happen.
The current Premiership MTT promotion looks like great fun. Unfortunately I won't be participating as all the tournaments run when I'm unable to play. Good luck to all involved.
Picking up chips on the bubble of the £3.30 BH. As I've mentioned before in other threads I consider a min-cash in an MTT to be a failure, something that's barely preferable to busting in the first hand. If I'm in it I want to win it. I won't back down from big confrontations, even on the bubble. Many other players will back down in the same situation, so it's a good time for me to pick up chips. Here I'm 8th/11 with 10 spots paid. My stack is already dangerously short. I'm happy to double or bust and decide to jam my small pocket pair over the limpers while I still have some fold equity. My image is tight so I'll be happy if they all fold and I pick up the chips in the middle uncontested. If I get a call from overcards I'm happy to take a +ev chip flip with plenty of overlay in the pot. If I run into a bigger pair then so be it, I'll still have 20% equity and at least I go out fighting. I'd much rather take a calculated gamble that could potentially lead to final table (or better) finish than roll over meekly and let my stack blind-out to ensure a min-cash.

Interesting spot. I don't usually use a massive river overshove either with or without the goods, however it seemed well worth giving it a go here. With a made straight on the board I want my opponents to think I'm making a massive bluff to steal the pot. You never know, someone might call just playing the board. Unlikely maybe, but I've seen it happen. Obviously a 6 is more likely to call, 67 and lower flushes even more so. My decision bears fruit when an opponent can't lay down a lower flush, the best case scenario for me. If I'd bet half-pot bet or something like that he probably would have opted to flat call knowing full well I might hold better. I'd have won a much smaller pot and missed out on his head-prize.
BTW If he shows up with the extremely unlikely straight flush then good luck to him, stacks are going in no matter how much I bet and I can chalk it up as one of those unavoidable coolers!

All I entered today was two micro Bounty Hunters. In a £3.30 I got nothing going at all and busted in the mid-stages when I got coolered pair under pair, BB against button. In a small £2.30 I got second place. HU went terribly, apart from uncontested pre-flop raises I lost every single pot. the tournament was over in the first aipf flip when my KQ was unable to improve pocket 99.
I enjoyed some leisurely tournament poker at friendly tables and finished a couple of quid up, perfectly happy with that
Not my day today. Despite enjoying some very soft tables I couldn't get anywhere in four MTTs and a DYM. The calling stations kept catching rivers after calling down against the odds and I was rubbish at all-ins, not exactly a recipe for success.
I'm happy I played well so I'm cool with the results good or bad. The last hand of the day summed it up pretty well; I got my KQ aipf in a flip against pocket 99, my opponent made quads on the run-out.

Sometimes it's just not your day. I get my stack in here on the turn with 71% equity for a treble-up and the chip lead in this £3.30 Freezeout but can't find a hold.

I enjoyed a deep runs in my first two tournaments of the day, both £5.75 Bounty Hunters, though ultimately to no avail.
In the first while with 3rd/17 with 10 to be paid I was a 60/40 hold away from the chiplead and my fifth head-prize when I squeeze-shoved AT from the SB over four limpers. The biggest stack of the four made an unwise call for his tournament life with K7 UTG, however the gamble worked out for him this time and he scooped the 18K pot. I busted a few spots from money when I ran 77 into JJ, an unavoidable cooler with all stacks getting very shallow.
In the second I was going well again until my pocket AA was cracked by a SB flat-caller with KJo. With effective stacks only 20BB at the start of the hand I was unable to get away from a check/shove on the 9TQ flop.
In a £5.25 HU match I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in spectacular style; I lost a series of four all-ins as favourite to lose from a 959/41 lead, including my flopped top pair losing to a bluff with air that made a runner-runner straight. As anyone who plays them will testify these hyper HU games are brutal at times.
In a small cheap deepie I got a min-cash for third. With 3 left I took on the maniac with my AQ for 70% of the chips at the wrong time; he was holding QQ.
While the deepie was running I received my run-good of the day on the way to winning a ME seat for £1.60. In the quarter-final I made a couple of big holds and won a flip to get to FT with five seats awarded and a cash prize for sixth. Then my laptop crashed, I was 5th/6 at the time and stacks were very were shallow. I've no idea what happened, but in the 5 minutes it took me to get back the game had finished and I 'd won a semi place for fifth place.
During the semi-final I got lucky twice. In the mid-stages I 3-bet shoved 88 from the SB over a button open, a standard shove for me with effective stacks 20BB and a level jump seconds away. I found myself in big trouble against the raisers JJ, but I spiked a lovely two-outer on the river to double-up. Soon after I propelled myself to one of the biggest stacks in the field with another stoke of luck. Holding QJs I completed on the BB to see a flop against a min-raise and a call. On the AQx flop I held midde-pair and a flush draw and check/shoved over the openers c-bet. I was an underdog again when I was called by top two pairs, however I turned the flush to get there. From that point on I folded and stalled my way to a seat.
After giving it some thought I decided against playing the Main Event and took £33 cash instead. I'd love to play in the main and a final table finish might win me enough to see this challenge completed. However I've been up since 1-30am and have done a full days work, that all coming after a very long day yesterday. By 10-00pm on a Saturdy night I'm flagging severely and find it very had to play my A-game. For this reason I chose to bank the money and enter the Mini instead.
The Mini was a damp squib. For the 45 minutes I lasted I spent most of the time folding a seemingly endless series of junk hands. The strongest hole cards I saw were pocket 22, twice. The first time I missed my set, the second time it was my exit hand when I lost a flip against KJo. Still, I end the day on a new highest balance courtesy of the satellite binkage. I'll take it.
Deja-vu; August felt pretty much like an action replay of July. For three weeks I struggled to get anything going, unable to catch enough run-good in any one tournament to chalk up a decent score and was pretty much resigned to a losing month. Then just when I least expected it a brief flurry of decent results between days 229-234 came to the rescue, including pleasing first place finishes in £5.75 and £3.30 Bounty Hunters.
I've had a busy summer with other stuff so volume remains low. I took 7 days off and earned only 463 Poker Points in August. If Sky were still using the old Cash for Points scheme (which paid nothing to those earning under 500 Poker Points in a calender month) I wouldn't have earned any Rewards payments at all during this challenge so far.
Coming along nicely from those days long ago when it was just your poker points.
I've not commented on your thread in a while, but have always read it with interest.
Out of all the threads i think this is by far one of the most interesting purely down to what a great achievment it will be when you achieve your goal. Especially at the beginning the get the ball rolling and to get some cash coming in.
Fantastic Gary and good luck with the rest of it.
Do you still play in free rolls? The syndicate free roll was always good for some free money, and the 6:30 games, whilst theres not loads of money in them, are still decent enough for a few quid.

Thanks very much Larson.
I abandoned freerolls ages ago. My playing time is limited, when I can play I'd rather pay for a shot at a bigger prize than those up for grabs in a freeroll. Due to my work hours I'm unable to play in the evening (apart from a few games on a Saturday night), so you won't see me in the Syndicate Freeroll or the 6-30 game.
After nearly two hours of play I took a harsh one to bust from my first game of the day; a £3.00 freezeout that I played with most of my attention diverted by business paperwork. On the stone-cold bubble I 3-bet pocket KK from the SB and was flatted by the aggressive opener holding J7. The pot was worth the chiplead, unfortunately the flop was 89T.
In a £2.20 Deepstack I went on a roller-coaster ride. I went from mid-stages big stack to tournament small stack with eight left by losing two flips then running my AK into 26s on an A62 flop. The player holding 26s had flatted my open raise from a 14BB stack on the SB!
However on the final table bubble I was the one who got lucky; my squeeze/shove with KJs on the SB got there to crack the button limp/callers KQo and bring me back into contention. It was my turn to win a flip after that too with AK /> 66 aipf on the bubble for a pot that would decide who'd be bubble boy. Despite winning that race I was still the shorter of the three stacks left by quite a way once we were in the money, but it all went my way from there. Soon after I doubled with pocket AA holding against flopped top pair I busted both opponents in quick succession to bink a small win. The hand that essentially settled it was my opponents unwise 5x raise/call shove with pocket 22, he didn't improve against my pocket 77.
With the addition of a couple of STTs won on the side my balance at that point was £699.14. I couldn't possibly leave it there, so I jumped into a £1.05 Hyper HU which I won to pass the £700 mark.
Awesome, really pleased for you. Another ceiling broken and when you break that £800 mark it will all look so close! Should do this before the year is out which will be an awesome atchievement from £0.
Thanks for your support stokefc, Maxally and CraigSG1. After reaching £700 it's dawned on me for the very first time during this thing that the finish line isn't a million miles away any more. However there's still a hell of a lot to do. Volume will continue be low for the first three weeks of September, after that I'm planning to knuckle down and have a good crack at getting the job done.
I didn't have enough spare time to commit to any MTTs today so I entered a few micro STTs for a leisurely game. Had fun and finished and finished a quid up
My first game a £5.75 Bounty Hunter was a a total non-event. After 40 minutes of nothing happening I finally picked up pocket KK when growing short. My OOP caller, a very laggy opponent , flopped a well disguised straight with his 78o and I was out.
The second tournament went somewhat better though I had to settle for a third place min-cash after a spectacular crash n' burn. I went from chip leader to out in the space of three hands. A premium pair triggered my downfall again; my pocket AA was cracked by a pre-flop limp/caller with KT who flopped top pair then got there on the river. Two hand later the same guy busted me when he rivered a gut-shot to crack my set of tens with his AK.
It all went downhill from there. I donked off £6.60 in a Rebuy and lost a couple of £5.25 HU matches. Then a £10.50 HU despite being all-in and head for the win twice. By then I knew it wasn't going to be my day and quit the session before I did more damage to my balance.
A pleasing run to a £5.75 BH final table started my session, though I had to settle for a disappoining fifth place finish. My exit came when I 3-bet shoved 19BB with ATs from the SB over a button open. The button made the call with QJs. I was slight favourite at 57/43 for a pot worth the chiplead, unfortunately a jack was dealt on the flop and I hit the rail.
From there nothing went right for a while. In my second game I was busted in the first orbit by an OOP opponent who decided his pocket 55 was good on a 237r flop after flatting my large pre-flop 3-bet. He hit a two-outer on the turn to crack my pocket KK. Then I tried a couple of HU matches but continued straight on from yesterday in those; still an expert at snatching defeats from the jaws of victories by losing all-ins for the win when ahead.
My session ended in style, albeit in a cheap MTT with a small field. Aided by a ton of good hands and flip wins I absolutely ran over a £2.30 Bounty Hunter. After assuming the chiplead soon after we made final table I crushed my opponents one-by-one on the way to victory taking 8 of the 17 available head-prizes. It's quite rare to win more in bounties than first place money in these, a feat I managed it in this one. Obviously I'd much rather have card-racked in a £5.75 with 70+ runners, but I can't complain, any MTT win always feels regardless of buy-in.
Well played Gary. As you said, a win is always good no matter how much it is. I would rather fin 1st for £50 than 2nd for £60 in a way as a win always feels good!
BTW; The player that busted you took a massive pot off me with my AK v there AQ and then went out with KK v 42o. I 3 bet my KK in SB v BB and he called. 4 8 A flop. chq, chq. J. chq. I bet n got called. 4 on river. I had little left so chq called and his excuse was "I thought you was stealing!".
Its can be very frustrating playing the early parts of these tournies but we have to move on!
Was telling my mate the other day about this thread and he didn't believe me . Absolutely amazing progress so far, just a matter of when you complete this imo. You have inspired me, so decided to give it a go starting next month with about £14 (c4p) and about 700 points. I aint expecting to get near to what you have achieved thus far but will try my best. What one piece of advice would you give ? GL achieving your goal !
Due to puter probs, I've been away for a little while but pleased to see, on my return, that there's gd news in my fav thread. Keep it up. Posted by Mohican

You have inspired me, so decided to give it a go starting next month with about £14 (c4p) and about 700 points. I aint expecting to get near to what you have achieved thus far but will try my best. What one piece of advice would you give ? GL achieving your goal ! Posted by LockyBhoy
Thank-you very much, and I wish you the very best of luck too!
That one piece of advice; have the discipline to never break your BRM rule. In my case I never risk more than 2.5% of my balance at any one time, without exception. When tilting after losing a game due to bad beats it's very tempting to chase your losses by buying into a game with more than you know you should. You might get away with it the first time, you might get away with it the second time too, but this is a disaster waiting to happen. Sooner or later you'll end up causing serious damage to your balance in a short space of time.
My second piece of advice; when you've only got £14 and 700 points you absolutely must run well, this is not a good time to go on a downswing!
Posted by CraigSG1
Thanks Craig. It's frustrating when you see a poor player going on a huge heater like that. However we want these guys in the game making their awful plays as we'll win plenty of money off them in the long run.
Also it's very important the bad players get lucky and win sometimes because it keeps them coming back for more. The last thing we want for is for these guys to all go on long losing streaks and quit playing. It's much better for us if they stay, knowing that they're always in with a chance of a big win due to the luck factor is the carrot that tempts them to keep depositing.

Advice from me would be- listen and follow to the letter Gary's advice and if you haven't already, read through this whole thread to really get an understanding of what a grind this has been.

Back to winning ways.

Just two tournaments for me again today.

Didn't play, too busy ferrying kids around.

Seventh heaven.
