In Response to Re: Every Don has its day. : I guess you'll be joining the tonnes of nit regs at 10nl that refuse to stack off with less then AA pre and a set post.  Agree with percival's view on every hand.
    Posted by NColley

Also agree with Percival, you have to stack off with your KK there and how on earth did you not go broke with your set of JJs mate ?  unreal how you got away from that for so little
  • edited March 2013
I just hate the way Hand 1 is played though.. 3x... tiny 3bet despite a caller, tiny 4bet from Donald, tiny 5bet from villian. I think we can virtually 100% narrow him down to AA, KK and if you're lucky QQ, unless we have notes to say he's mental.

Does he stack off to a 6bet shove with QQ, very very likely if that's his action with QQ but I think his range is weighted more towards AA than it is QQ
  • edited March 2013
Sure has AA sometimes, but to say the shove is horrible is a horrible comment in itself. We can get away from KK rarely in preflop spots, especially 6max, it's even more difficult to 4bet/fold KK. QQ we can get away from I agree, but I do think sometimes villain will just randomly stack off with QQ or something. I've seen it a few times before where I've been close to folding KK pre to tiny 4/5bets etc, but it's just right to get it in imo, if he has AA nh, just a set up that wont happen v.often at all

    Day 9

Trully did go back to MTTs today. And rekindled my form. Came 4th in top of the posts last night fwiw. Didnt play well was very tired so maybe could/should have done better but happy all the same, £20 is £20.

So today i started with a roll of 209.17. I entered a semi sat, made it so still have that to play.

However mostly was limiting losses, taking heads in bhs making a small loss. However I entered the 3.45 speed bh and 3.55 scary mtts.

    Results.

     The_Don90 78000 1 £26
    melly23 0 2 £15.60
    somer 0 3 £10.40

    and

    BLUE988 53850  £14.47 Head Prizes 5 £7.31
    Plumo69 44150  £11.16 Head Prizes 4 £6.21
    The_Don90 0 3 £18.38 + £9.09 Head Prizes

got unlucky in the bh, average stack 15BB 3 handed and a speed, 66 into QQ then KJ into AQ. Standard stuff, both where blind on blind. Cant complain though.

    Day 9 - cont

Started well winning the semi, very weird, why do people slow fold hand for hand, i mean why. 30 left 28 seats and £6.60. Takes so long to go round blinds go up on my BB 2 rounds in a row. That mean i was all in on SB on the stone bubble. Got there tho and that sealed me the seat.

I played some rebuy, never lost a hand in rebuy period, couldnt buy a hand after so didnt make cash -£6 there.

The main went well taking a head early. Then a table move where everthing went wrong. Made a "questionable" call with 66. BB was all in for less than a big, i open SB shoves. I know i can be better than flipping here alot, and flipping even more. So i persoanlly think its a call, which i made. This was one of those occassions where i was crushed. Left with 7BB i shoved QJ and busted to 44. Standard stuff.

The mini my exit was crazy. 3x open and call, shorty shoves slightly more 3.05BB i re-shove 20BB with 88, peeler of the origional raise called with A4. 4x4 flop.

    Day 10

I put a bet on for cheltnam today which because it was a lucky 15s and i had the race that got cancelled it hasnt been settled yet - tilting. However i was going to withdraw bet profits and deposit for losses. So just be aware atm £6 is missing.

I started the day bored to be honest. Think i played one mtt but didnt last long, cant really remember i think i did, could have imagined it. I defo did do one on stars.

However onto Sky. I played NL10 for abit. Flush over flush shown on tv. Ignore the result of that i requested it for long term feedback, glad redmond said i played it near perfect dont need to waste the diary reader time now lol. :)

I 3bet a guy i seen as very tight several times, inc 3 times in 5 mins, eventually he snap shipped 100BB - the time i had KK, i was like yeeeehaaa, till he turned over aces. Meh standard.

One weird hand and TPTK v set(AK v 99) on 9xxK board meant it was alosing session. Although i did recover to keep the losses to less than 3bins - just.

So i went back to my strong point MTTs. Had a mare with pc meaning I could only do 2. The 5.30pm bounty hunter and 6pm guarenteed.

I finnished a respectable 3rd and 4th for a combined £60ish. Could have been more in the bounty hunter as i misclick called off half my stack 5 handed with 63o. No excuse for that kinda thing, misclicks on final tables are just not permitted.

    Hi fella.

Not been on the forum for a little while but saw this and had to have a quick look. Keep it going Don matey.

The race moved to Thursday bet happened to me too. I did a lucky 15 but e/w and have had 2x4th places and a winner with the thursday race to come. I have Big Shu picked so hopefully that will fill me up on the place bets at least.

Glad your enjoying the poker and this particular diary has more of an upbeat feel to it compared to the last ones which at times seemed like you were slightly suicidal.

congrats - is this the same Don as in 2012?
ps good hand to show, as many would be results orientated and fear the overflush, whereas the analysts are all  very clear on the need to value bet flopped flushes, even low ones.
welcome back and continue the good run

    Day 11

Had some beer so appoligies for the poor quality of this post.

So i played some bounty hunters. So i got 1 head, and no cashes. Great.

However for £8 i got into the £11 main. I took an addon for £11. For £5 i bought into the mini, i took an addon for £5.

No cash in mini, was well stacked until i got moved to a table with TommyD and Goodylad. Tommy pwnd me in a spot - i know you where bluffing tommy, i just hadnt had enough beer. :) Then goodylad won a flip for the rest of my chippies QQ v AK most standard thing in tournament poker.

So the main. With some luck, spewing, some more luck, more spewing, more standard hands, more spewing, then i a weird hand for my exit. Annoying as i was tempted to ladder with a 2/3BB stack on the other table. I woke up with jacks in the BB. Im on the 4 seater table. UTG opned 3x. I have 9.2BB and the BTN has peeled. I find the shove. UTG folds i think we next hand i have 33.5k (6.5BBmore) and the BTN peeler snaps with QQ. Erm ok nh sir.

Just to be advised if I dont post for a while im playing the Micro millions. I may play a little on sky in the background which i will update on but for this week my main focus is there. I just feel it would be incorrect to post up results for that here.

    Day 12

I've had a reasonable start to the MM, one cash but that was in the HU event where i wet pretty deep - only 6 wins off winning the whole tourny. I feel i should have got passed the specific opponent that i went out too, but at the same time my opponent on the bubble was pretty handy.

However the reason for the update was due to me playing some MC yesterday. Only one of my hands got shown though. However overall i think i did ok. I had a few areas where i should have won more, and 2 or 3 spots where i could have lost less. However overall im happy with the session.

    Day 13 (sort of)

So this post is based mostly on the past 2 or 3 days sorry for no updates. Ive finnished my Micro Millions grind. I made a small profit but basically i wasn't enjoying it.

Ive played some cash. Overall lots of signs of improvements, im not going broke in spots now where previously i was like im huge, get it in. Infact people may be amazed to hear, ive became a nit folding QQ twice pre and AK once pre. Fairly confident long term in those folds in those spots.

Over the past 3 sessions, ive not made huge nosebleed profits, 4 tabling normally 2 NL10 and 2 NL20 ive made a recorded 3 session profit record of +£1 +£1 +£5 and +£5.

I know that doesnt seem to add with the balance of the last post i played a couple of sats the other day and got nowhere.

    Balance: £427.88

    Hey Mate,

    Nice jump in your bankroll.

    Do you play mostly MTTs?

Would you say the best way to build, or geta  decent jump in bankroll, is through getting a good win in a MTT as opposed to just grinding cash?

I've written 4 responces and deleted all 4 to this question. Trying to answer it without going way off topic and being honest is hard. Firstly thanks, the main event deep run involved some luck but thats nessessary, and without being harsh, i was due in these main events.

The best way to build a bankroll i think is preferance. Im strictly a better mtt player, mainly because i have a larger edge on people who are unable to play a short stack. That 10-40BB zone is where i am really in a very comfortable zone. Much deeper than that i make mistakes. Leaks creep up etc.

I was doing a cash sweat before, after a hand someone said to me "just call there, not many scary turns" to which my reply was, "the turn in general is scary"

Thats a key point you have to worry about on where you decide to grind. If you are more comfortable playing through the streets 100BB+ deep then cash is where you want to be. If like me, you are stronger in short stack dynamic then mtts are better.

Having said that, I cant think of many better feelings than shoving 10BB on the bubble of a tournament, knowing if your called your behind. Expessially when the bubble is worth a few bob.

You 4bet me once, and i think you outflopped me another ha. The other time u folded was the time i had aces. lol :(

Its hard to be aggro at NL4 and NL10 where we've had alot of our hands, NL20 allows me to be slightly more aggro, expessially on that table. Fwiw other than the time you 4bet me i was happy getting it all in pre everytime.

so your saying my timing was awesome lol

the time I 4bet you folded think I had a5ss, the hand you think i outflopped you was that the q6x flop I had you in that spot, and time I folded when you had aces i had kk just did not feel right lol nah think I must have had junk.

but yeah least you play a wider range than some players at these levels are you not playing many mtts now or just mixing it up?

    Another update

So with the release of gears of war judgment i haven't played quite as much as normal. Has also been very nice to do something im able to have a laugh with Mel too. Also the return of the F1 has completely knocked off my sleeping.

However i did get an hour in yesterday had some fun, got into 2 hands with Anna one of whcih got shown on tv. I actually felt the other was a better hand but obviously I dont know anna's hand so maybe it was much more standard than i think.

Today i played a little mastercash, i promised to help at mate on the above xbox game until 7. Although we failed level at 6.30 so amazingly i got onto the tables which i wasn't expecting.

Early on had a crazy 300BB hand with fellow diary writer Benc, hope he won't mind me posting it. Ace high won lol.

Once i peel pre i was planning to make a move. Given this flop i obviously have equity so made a raise designed to look valuey and commiting. He read it right, i snapped and didn't get there. I actually expected a fold alot of the time.

I seem to be getting better at minimising losses and increasing wins. The big hand of the session did involve some luck.

I put oppo on a FD and was tempted for the overbet shove on the river, but i felt i had to bet smaller to keep other hands he had in his range in. It went in anyways so didn't miss any value.

Happy with how im playing now, and i'm enjoying playing cash at the moment as well.

i'm to used to stacking off terribly in hypers so that will explain that hand lol, to be honest seeing as we were hu and you are a good aggro player who knows i'm likely to be 3betting alot i didn't think you had much when you just flatted would of expected a 4bet with the mid to higher end of your opening range so that meant 10s and js were very unlikely and obv the higher pairs which i guess made me follow my instincts. When you raised my cbet i thought i could get some folds from your one pair J hands and any pairs you thought may off been good on that flop that would bet to take down the pot there and then. However as i mentioned in my diary i wasnt't sure about my play at all in reflection and i definetly won't be taking credit for a soul read or anything, was just going on instincts that you wasnt that strong and trying to take you off a better hand and obv knew if my thoughts on the hands you could turn up with were wrong i could always hit my gutshot, backdoor flush or even one of my two overcards.

You can believe all that or you can just assume i'm a donk and stack off 300bbs with a gutshot... some players just can't fold AQ... ha ha

ps forgot to add i think your play was definetly good and the majority of the time as you said would expect to see a fold and take it down on the flop.
