Only time for the one tournament today as I'm out this evening. Played the 3pm £500 gtd BH.... yes it was out of my £184.94 BR at a cost of £22, but I felt I had to play it as there were only 9 runners registered 10 minutes into the tournament. With so much overlay I though there was clear value and convinced myself it was a good idea.
I suppose it was in hindsight. Came 3rd for a min cash. Really played my short stack very well to get into the cash on the final table so was pleased with that. Still a bit gutted I couldnt win it. However I did effectively double my cash with 7 bounties... so not a bad afternoon all in all.
This past week has been such a rollercoaster its been unreal.
Think I played 3, possibly 4 tournaments today. FT 2 of them, coming 6th and 3rd respectively. Still cant find that allusive win but i'm sure it'l come in time... no need to worry as I've cashed in over half the tournaments i've entered in the last 3 days.
Bad beat of the day... and for once I was the guilty party. It's so filthy but nothing I could do about it... one of those spots im never folding.... like ever.

Man I feel dirty.
What goes around I suppose...
Got caught in a rather nasty spot final 4 in a tournament. I think I made the right lay down at the time.... hopefully. Maybe not. I'll be wondering about this hand for a while... He simply must have the flush. He's seen that I've been playing quite tight, unless he's seen it as a great bluffing card (which it is... grrrrrr).
What do people think?

Oh well. I lived to fight another day and finished 3rd...
BR - £359.17 (thats right...somehow I avoided the reload)
Bad couple of days. Not entirely sure I've been doing anything wrong. A tad tilty now and again, but its going to happen when you get outdrawn so many times.
A lot of bad beats the past couple of days, but cba going through hand history at the moment to find out if it's my errors or not. Got the money in good a vast majority of the time... I guess thats all you can do.
It's also the nature of my game I suppose... min cashes mean very little to me - I will play for the win. Either FT or bubble is the pattern at the moment. Just in a bubble patch at the moment.
Sure it'l pick up soon. Still can't find that allusive win.
Work update. I'm back at my old job this week (for probably just this week) - its complicated. No need to bore you, but essentially im restricted to evening poker at the moment.
Played the main tonight. Cashed in 9th shoving 33 into KK. Even though I did cash... I didn't enjoy it at all. The blinds go up so quick that it just turns into a shove-a-thon and essentially the luckiest player will go on to win. Almost no flop action from 50 players left... not my kind of poker.
Anyway... can't complain. Back to my initial BR (ish). Might play a few more tournaments tonight but undecided. Got some Game of Thrones to watch...
Thanks hhyftrftdr (that took me a while to double check i spelt it right - i might just call you hhy from now on). Got a bit lucky in that hand but was pleased I could put it to good use and cash!
Since then things havent been too great. Came back from the cinema last night and decided to play the 2am £200 gtd. I was winning with 18 left, then realised just how tired I was and I had to get up in 3 hours and completely went awall... so apologies to anyone in that. I kind of hit a stage where I was like 'this tournament will be over in an hour or i will be out' mindset. I went out... pretty quickly.
Played some cash this afternoon as I didnt have time for a MTT. Lost 2 BI's on two tables which further proves that i suck balls at cash. It surprises me just how loose people play on cash which may be the reason I suck. Prime example... limped pot, I have AK. I raise 7bb on button and get called by J9os and Q4os... I lost the hand.
So lets leave cash alone and focus on MTTs. Looking forward to tonight. I like the 33 quid Sky Sports BH and mini *flashbacks of my jackpot miss*, but also hoping to bink KOTH (macapaca has won it too many times) and run deep in another tourny. Heres hoping anyway!

1. What did you watch? Was it Hangover Part 3....if so is it good? 2. What level cash was this?....they are crazy calls
I did watch Hangover 3. Bit of a let down. Parts were funny but neither 2 or 3 lived up to the first. Should have stopped after the 1st. If you do go and watch it... wait for the little part after the credits.
That was on 4nl. I was on a 20nl table as well and they all seemed as loose as each other. Couldnt put anyone on anything in any pot. Just spewed money all over the place. You try betting people off their draws.... it simply wont happen.

I'm gonna wait til it comes out on sky I think, agree with you about 2 being considerably worse than 1......so not expecting a great deal from 3. Oh well Anchorman 2 is out soon!!!
As for 4nl.......quickly learnt bluffing isn't the way, just bet BIG with the goods. But if I could cash in mtt's as often as you do then I wouldn't even entertain 4nl!
I play quite a bit of 4nl and at first I was surprised just how 'fruity' some of the play was. I'm much more accustomed to it these days and can often suss out who is decent and who is not within 2 orbits and go from there. Waller is very correct, bluffing is almost pointless as you get called down so light, but this also means you get paid off when you have the goods. I bluff way more than I should, honest.
For those who were watching on TV i made a complete muppet of myself in the last 20 of the main. I should be happy that I got there as at one point when blinds were 150,300 I only had 800 chips left... but its so irritating to go out in the manor i did.
IT WAS ALL MY FAULT.
instead of shoving the turn on a AJ810 board with KJ I essentially value bet. At this stage it was entirely the wrong thing to do as the other guy hit his 7 on the river with 87 and I was left crippled. Odd as I repped an ace yet he decided to call down with just an 8 but it was really irritating how poorly i played that hand. I keep saying I play for the win but i was worried about being stacked off right then. Wrong things to do. ARGH.
Muppet muppet muppet. Would have been in such a good position to TID.
Went out of mini with AA on a KQ52 board. he had 43 and decided it was worth a punt. Brilliant.
Not a good night. Tilted and entered another BH and stacked off pretty quickly.
First win of the diary certainly deserves a mention! Bit tilty earlier on, but took a short break, had a drink and decided i'd play the midnight and half 12 tournaments.
Midnight tournament I was card dead for the whole tournament. Cant remember picking up a PP or a prem hand like AK or AQ suited. So yeah... got kinda desparate and shoved A3 into something a bit better than A3 after about an hour.
Oh well. I was running like Thewy in the 12:30 though, got myself 8 bounties (some lucky, but i'd say most was good play on my part) - so a nice little win to boast about.
To commemorate my first win in this diary I shall post a picture of my winning lobby like a total loser.
Decided to play the 7:30 BH this evening. Saw about 3 orbits before going out. One of those tables where if they have an ace...any ace, they will not fold pre, as shown by the following two hands (the only two hands I was involved in)
Never bluff unless you need to. Running very deep (up near the top as well) of the rebuy this evening and I decide its a great time to bluff bluff bluff to get a huge stack. I dug myself a hole and couldnt get out of it... But I do think that if i were playing against a certain type of player this would have gotten through a lot of the time. I mean by the turn im repping a massive hand... certainly looks like a set to me and id have to fold if i was in villains position. I hadn't bluffed a pot like this in the game at all yet so villain has no reason to think that I dont have the stone cold nuts (i think).

Maybe a shove would have gotten through on the turn.... who knows.
Anyway... they called and I was a gonna. Silly man. Should have stayed patient.
Hmmm just found out im in the Charlotte Freeroll tomorrow night as I ran deeper than her in the main last night.... Nice treat although I CANT PLAY IT.
Why do sky assume everyone sits on their laptops and plays poker on here every single night? Especially Saturdays. Surely it'd make more sense to have the freeroll next Thursday when clearly the majority of the players are free.
I know I'm bemoaning a freeroll, and to be honest I dont really mind. It would just be nice to play in something I've qualified for... and i'm sure I wont be the only one in this position.
Well after a nice weekend celebrating a birthday or two in the sunshiiiiine, decided to enter one of this afternoons BH.
Cashed in 4th (5 were paid) and was a bit surprised when i got reshoved by 22 when i 3 bet shoved with A10 as short stake. The 2's held which is always a surprise as youd never expect to see them in an all in for the majority of their stack... i mean they arent really beating anything....
Still... cash is cash... and its a relief after the horrid time I gave myself on Friday.... deciding that because I was late home id give cash another go. I was actually up by like 10-15 quid at one point... but then lost it all... and more... majority in flip situations.
I just cant seem to work out cash... I'd love to be good at it, and I guess it takes practice, but NL4 is just a little loose for me (think i'd tilt too much) and NL10 is kind of screwing with my BR as I suck...
I dunno... think I should probably avoid it altogether.
Mixed few days. Cashed in a few MTTs, bombed out of many others. Thrown away lots on cash tables... won some back.
It's a real rollercoaster at the minute. Think i'm playing slightly more aggro than I normally do so I might want to take a step back and be a bit more conservative in MTTs. Tried stealing a pot off TommyD in tonights main. He wasn't having any of it... when really I had no need to get involved and could have waited for a better spot.
A large learning curve in poker...
Anyway, as I mentioned above I won a little bit on cash today (made up for some of my loses) which I was proud of. It was all mainly this hand. Pretty pleased I got max value from it...

Crazy thing is that on 10nl you can make pot sized bets all the way down and still get paid. (ignore the min raise pre... I was on another table and almost timed out on this one).
While I'm here just thought I'd drop my two pennies worth on the last two cash hands you've posts.
Hand 1 - I think you need to raise the flop mainly because so many turns kill our action and scare off the other players on such a dripping wet board, they can easily think you're raising with the bare flushing ace. However you got max value so kudos. Just my opinion.

Yeah I had considered raising the flop on the first hand... But i had seen in previous hands the villain was happy to barrel a second street with just top pair on a wet board so thought id get him pot committed before sticking a raise in on the turn. Worked out fine in the end. Disaster if the turn was a diamond though I suppose but i played the odds... and it paid off.
Gutted my bluff didnt get through on the main against you (I know i had top pair but knew it wasnt good after you barrelled the turn). Was thinking back if I had shoved the turn instead I might have repped a stronger hand rather than just a missed draw on the river... Not sure im kicking you off the hand either way with TPTK anyway though?

Re: The cash hand, it's not just diamonds which are action killers, we also have a number of cards which will make it four to a straight. Well played though as I'm looking at the hand in a vacuum and you have the history of the session with the player. Just adding my thoughts on the default line to gain maximum value.
Re: Our hand, do you know the hand ID, I've been looking for it but I'm struggling to find it, if you want I can go through my entire thought process alongside actions you would or could make to make me fold.

Just found it.... Not sure what I'm repping to make you fold tbh. Im thinking a shove on the turn makes my hand look a lot stronger as id be repping possibly A10 or something along those lines. Pretty poor play from me IMO. I knew I was behind but thought 'oh man i've left myself less than 20bb' if i check/fold. One of those things after I call the turn I cant fold... why would I call turn to fold river? Thats losing play so I decided to take a punt.
Tried getting clever in the 7pm BH. I was fed up of people limping each hand as everyone was very loose. I decided to take the initiative one hand in position... mainly hoping people would just fold to my raise, but after an incredible flop I was happy to get it in.
Sucked out however...
I get irritated quite quickly at people who put their entire tournament on hitting a river card, knowing full well they are behind... I mean i just dont get it.
The roller coaster continues. It's starting to get ridiculous now. I don't think i've ever been this up and down before. Usually im either on a heater or on a downswing... not a mix of both.
I've been running terribly since my last entry on Monday evening. Losing so many flips at crucial stages including KK v AK QQ v K5 AA v QJ AK v 79 AK v QJ
It's been messy.
So bottom line the BR hit £95.... not £195 - £95.
Tilting a little bit with all the beats and people going all in with K5 beating my Queens... then telling me they did it because 'they felt lucky' (or something like that) really was getting under my skin.
Now as i'm too proud to give up for the evening despite annihilating by BR for the last 2 days I reg for the 12:00 and 12:30 tournaments - these are probably my favourite two tournaments. I like the 12:00 purely because it isn't a BH, nor a turbo, or a deepstack or rebuy. It's basically a multi table sit and go and promotes good poker play.
Anyway my exit hand from that was this. Now im thinking I either fold the turn min raise or shove... I chose shove because if I was behind I had a fair few outs.... fair enough?

So that didn't go too well.
Playing the 12:30 was a real struggle tonight. I was so card dead... which would usually cause me to do some silly bluffs, however as I had 2 other tables I was more preoccupied with other things going on. So I blinded down to about 1k without doing anything of note. Blinds hit 50-100 and I found a reasonable hand and DU. That was with about 18 left out of 40 odd (6 paid). I was short stack for most of the next orbits however found a DU or two as well as a superb three barrel bluff (can't find it grrr) gave me average stack with 9 left. Laddering into the cash was my main priority. Usually it'd be the win but with my BR I felt I needed to cash first then push on for the win.
Anyway... long story short I went on to win it! Amazing what you can do with 10bb eh? Perhaps it'l teach me to be more patient in future rather than getting involved when I don't need to early doors. Had a decent HU battle with Ryan83 who deserves a mention - theres always next time mate
I've now won the 12:30 BH twice since starting this diary... and they have been my only wins. Maybe I should just play this tournament and nothing else?
So bottom line is....
BR - £245.01
So basically nothing has changed BR-wise since my last post (i can pretend)
In the 8pm BHer it's a question mark if I'm ever folding after the flop with the stacks involved. Yes jamming over my turn bet probably gives me the biggest headache but I may still be calling. I remember my reaction to the river lead out jam, it just didn't feel like it made sense. I don't think you can rep trips that well and won't have it there enough to make it a correct fold from me. I also think I would have heard about other holdings which beat me sooner than this so I clicked call.

This past week has been such a rollercoaster its been unreal.

BR - £359.17 (thats right...somehow I avoided the reload)
BOOM.
BR - £236.71 sigh...
BR- £294.04
You know its not your night when these happen withing 5 minutes of each other.
See you on the tables.
2. What level cash was this?....they are crazy calls
That was on 4nl. I was on a 20nl table as well and they all seemed as loose as each other. Couldnt put anyone on anything in any pot. Just spewed money all over the place. You try betting people off their draws.... it simply wont happen.
Must keep to MTTs... im much better at them...
As for 4nl.......quickly learnt bluffing isn't the way, just bet BIG with the goods. But if I could cash in mtt's as often as you do then I wouldn't even entertain 4nl!
Someone stop me.

BR's a bit healthier now...
£365.58
Sigh.
Anyway... they called and I was a gonna. Silly man. Should have stayed patient.

Can't get out of this funk.
First hand.
BR- £250.93
Hand 1 - I think you need to raise the flop mainly because so many turns kill our action and scare off the other players on such a dripping wet board, they can easily think you're raising with the bare flushing ace. However you got max value so kudos. Just my opinion.
Hand 2 - Lovely stuff.
Sucked out however...
I get irritated quite quickly at people who put their entire tournament on hitting a river card, knowing full well they are behind... I mean i just dont get it.
