I'm not proud of what I said but I was getting a bit agitated by him tbh. This is a guy who sits at the table at criticizes everyones play. He thinks he is a poker god and I wanted to put him in his place. I shoved with AK then AJ with 10bb later on and he said im such a 'donk shovemonkey idiot' or something like that. Too bad I ran into AK with AJ. Would have liked to teach him a lesson in poker. Now come on... lets be honest here... I'm right aren't I? It wasnt an overbet... and I cant be 'value betting' the river? If shes got a hand that she'l call 1.6k... shes got a hand that will call 3.5k. I've got to stick it in on the river especially when I hit the nuts. It keeps bluffs in too as I was probably doing it regardless of the river (maybe). Be honest here guys... what would you do? Posted by gazza127
Man that arguement was magical. If he says you played it wrong then he's undoubtedly correct and you should listen to him....whoever he is.
Good to see you back and that you've ignored all the advice on BRM :P
Played some cash tonight. Ended up about 11 quid up on NL10 which I was pretty pleased with as im useless at cash.
I ended up HU against donttellmum as everyone else had left. I've hardly ever played against donttellmum let alone HU, but rumour has it he is a decent player.
I think I got him quite frustrated really. We barely ever got down to showdown, and after reloading he started open jamming pots. He showed one as a bluff when I had folded A8s.
Think i played OK as HU cash plays quite similar to HU tournaments. Theres a lot of bluffing and semi-bluffing pots and youve got to pick the right spots to extract value. Made a mess of one pot. Think I could have stacked him as he was quite obviously bluffing...
Thoughts on this hand please:
Should I just call the turn and let him fire again or is this fine?
A board of 8 8 2, heads up against an aggro player. We should just flat the turn all day long, there is nothing to protect against and we have position so we can give him the chance to fire again on the river.
Another reason why I'd flat is because his line looks like total air. He's only called the raise pre, so can generally rule out premium made hands. Flop is 8 8 2. We have an 8. How has he connected to that flop? In the unlikely event he has 22 or a better 8 then all the money will go in and nh gg etc etc but I'd certainly look to give him the chance to hang himself. His bet sizing looks like he might have set himself up for an all in on the river too if you call the turn, as he'll have just less than a pot sized bet behind and I think DTM has the minerals to triple barrel 3 streets with air
Something i've been trying really hard to do is cut out silly calls because im holding a premium hand. Some people cant lay down AA or KK.... and i'm usually guilty of over-repping them post flop.
However.... i'm uber proud of this lay down. A few months ago i'd be snapping this off then tilting cause my KK didnt hold.
Right im stopping tonight and will quickly move onto watch copious amounts of the US office.
Its not going right for me today... it's been pretty tragic.
Cant work out if this is bad play or not in the 12:30 BH.
Obviously if i flat here then I can get away on the river... but with 2 oppos in the hand i figure 1... or maybe even both are on healthy draws and i've got to raise.... Min raise makes no sense here leaving so little behind. Shove, call or fold but why would i call flop to then see a perfect turn card and fold? Obv I cant put anyone on a set... no raise pre so its highly unlikely. I was praying for him to turn over 109.... but i guess that beats me in the end too.
Up and down... up and down. Its the same old story. Still hovering around my second deposit.
I was pretty irritated last night.... mainly with the post I posted 2 above this, but forgot about it today and got on with it...
First tournament of the day I entered I went out 4th hand. I had JJ. Board was 78102 when the money came in. I three bet pre in the blinds so the pot was already quite infated. He had flatted KK back in position and I was a gonna after flopping a gut shot and overpair. Guess its just how it goes... Maybe I could have played it more passively.
Either way... second tournament I entered was the £350 BH. Things went much better. I ran 77 into KK (KK was shortstack) and turned a straight. Went through the tournament pretty solidly, accumulating chips at quite a nice rate. I managed to halve my stack in a silly bluff. He was raising my BB almost every orbit and I got fed up of it and thought id take the initiative.
It backfired.

Not sure I could have gotten more value from the hand above or not.... maybe raise flop. Tried to milk it a bit too much though... Reckon he was on a straight draw.
Anyway I get to the final three and Diva's connection has gone so its effectively heads up, and this was the hand that effectively won it.

So two tournaments so far today. Last and first... much better than 2 min cashes.
Now i know I should be relatively happy with this but im not.... but i'll get to that.
I started the tournament uber strong.... now I know it may sound arrogant or whatever but I was put on a table where I knew I was better than everyone else - unlikely I know but very true!
Everyone limped into everypot. I could raise 6x pre and still get 2 or 3 callers, and they all called into their draws. I could read them like a book. It was good because I could get max value from every hand and knew when to bluff. After the first hour I had 5x my stack and was sitting comfortably in 1st place.
Then I got moved.
Really struggled adapting to the new table having had it so easy for the first hour or so... getting 3 bet felt uber weird and I had to tighten massively as I didnt know everyones game. I was up and down for the next hour or so but made it into the cash (final 6).
Managed to swing myself a big pot when the chip leader tried to bluff me when I was holding TPTK.. and I was sitting up top along this guy for a good half an hour.
Now this is why im not happy... when there were 4 of us left. Me and this other guy were chip leaders and the other two each had about 10bb each. I was happy to put pressure on them when needed and wait for them to dwindle in chips so I could knock them out.
The other guy however just looooooved to see a flop and looooooved to bluff. He doubled up the other two players twice... each.... And suddenly we were all even.
I just dont know why he wasnt more patient. I was 100% certain we'd both be heads up but I got caught and suddenly had to start winning a few pots here and there when I didnt really want to get involved. Couple that with some loose players that will call your 2.5bb raise with AK with whatever they were holding to little hesistation in jamming a 4910 rainbow flop. Suddenly I was 4/4 and pretty irritated.
Another guy bust missing his draw and I was left with 10bb. The guy who was shortest with 4 players left suddenly had 40bb. I jammed my KJs in a limped pot and he called with Q10os quite happily. He turned a Q.
Really disapointed as there was close to 200 quid up top and I was certain with 4 left that I'd be crushing the other chip leader heads up.
Sigh. Thats poker.
For those that read this (if any) you may be wondering why I dont post a BR... Its because I feel like I put too much pressure on the money (winning or losing) if I post on here. I should just be focussing on playing good poker and hopefully the BR will take care of itself.
Villain really thought about it on the turn and river but decided to call me down. Hes seen me bet into draws. I raise the flop as I reckon its hit almost 0 of his range... He calls which gets me a bit ponderous. Then the ace of diamonds comes which is just an epic card to barrel... as ive hit my draw if i was betting into it and was still ahead if I had a 7. Again he flats.... which made me ponder about what he had... maybe he had a semi decent ace pre and want to see a river as again no raise. 2 comes down. If I was playing just a 2... ive hit a fullhouse... if i was playing a 7 ive got a full house... if i was playing the ace ive hit higher two pair... if i was playing the draw ive hit the flush.
Then he flips over JJ. Is this a case of villain just being reluctant to fold a high PP or was this just a poor spot to try and take a measly pot?
He limps in, so his range is pretty much any 2 cards. He could've smashed this flop, he could've totally bricked, we really have no idea either way. This is why I'm not big fan of this bluff, I have to say. The pot is too small, with no aggression pre we have zero idea on his range, we are out of position; nothing is working in our favour.
We are playing 4k, is it worth trying to pinch a 240 chip limped pot?
well no lol.... but look at what he limped in with. I was playing with two oppos whod limp in with very strong hands... but because I got no raises at any point in the hand (youd think that he he had a 7 hed raise the flop again... or hed raise the turn if he hit the flush). I couldnt put him on any hand that should be calling me on the end.... and in reality I think a lot of players find a fold with JJ on the turn or river... I even think a lot of players find a fold with an ace... but perhaps I should be betting closer to 800 on the end...
Id created a believable story from the flop onwards and because I bluffed the flop its now a 600 pot by the turn which is quite sizeable... I guess I thought i could steal it off him.
I dunno! haha... His hand is totally underrepped by just limping. 7 2 7 flop with 2 diamonds.... You could have a stray 7. You could have 2 diamonds. You could have an airball. If he puts you on the latter he'll call you down almost regardless of the runout. I don't think villain needs to raise here as he keeps in your bluffs/limits the damage if his JJ is beat.
If you have 2 oppo's who limp in with monsters, is that not even more a reason not to bluff limped pots?
If you had a young tournament apprentice, and he/she came to you looking for advice and said, ''is it wise to be bluffing out of position, in a limped pot, vs oppo's who you know limp strong hands'', what would you say to them?
PS: I could be that young(ahem) tournament apprentice

Fair point. Dont get involved in pots you dont need to. Bluffing is almost always going to catch up with you unless you have such a tight table image.... but on sky things like that dont matter...
Had about 15 bigs in each hand so maybe i could have waited for a PP... but in both situations there was only 1 to act behind me and i thought id take a punt.
Firstly we have nothing invested in the pot in the first place, check fold. The 240 in the pot makes no real difference to your stack at this stage, instead you ended up doing 1100 (1/4 quarter of your stack) for no real reason.
Done it many times myself, you think no way has he hit that flop so raise then feel obliged to keep barrelling. Definitely have to give up on the river as there's no way he's folding once he called the turn,he prob isn't going to fold any PP that he has limped with.
I'd listen to your apprentice...''is it wise to be bluffing out of position, in a limped pot, vs oppo's who you know limp strong hands''

OMG that is ridiculous, id scream too BUT ..... yea he called off 23bb with A8 suited, was bad for you this time but wow if he does that everytime you will be fine, remember you always want to get it all in just like that so dont need to be upset with him and call him a DH yaknow? Blame the dealer lol
Yeah I can't lie... I'm pretty irritated. What made it worse is that he didnt even think about it. Snap call as if he had the absolute nuts. He saw me earlier on doing something EXACTLY like this with AK suited and he snap called another 30bb for his tournament life with 77 when he's only commited 6bb to the pot. EURGH. He folds there like he should and im chip leader with no worries.... or even better he calls but doesnt get lucky... then im really storming away with it.
Just went out in the 12:30.
Came 5th. Got about 40 quid including bounties. Was short stack on final table and shortly after a double up I turned top two pair... too bad he had turned the straight. Still think I could have gotten away from it but I was short stack and needed another du to have a shot and too much was already invested to fold top two.
Its the story of this diary so far... yes i've had a couple of wins here and there but the main theme has been me running deep in tournaments then losing a flip or just getting coolered. I cant seem to get into the serious money at the minute. I noticed one or two errors tonight. One may have been folding the aces. If I shove there like I was thinking pedrom definitely calls and I beat him. If madpat decides to come along too I lose as he turned and rivered a fullhouse... So I could have gone out earlier but also could have DU.... we'll never know.
Too many min cashes for my liking. Got to sort this out somehow.
Its obviously a shove or fold situation... but if pedrom comes along after the shove its likely madpat will too as hes priced in with a lot of draws.
I cant put pedrom on AK as there would 100% be a reraise pre. Could get KJ out my mind... and then after mappat called the pot bet i got a real headache.
The donk pot bet and then call just reaked of strength but im aware that maybe I should have stuck the lot in and taken my chances to double or even triple up.

not sure - oop AK could flat to take a flop - hits his K and wants to take it down there and then given the wet board.
vs KJ you have redraws
vs draws you are ahead
agreed it could go 3-way - but "what the h*ll" imho
I might raise AA a tad more. It's a beautiful spot on the button to raise pretty big. You only have 40bb going into the hand, it will have to be a seriously ugly flop to get me off it. I think I stick the lot in after the pot lead and the call. The only possible hands we are behind to are KJ and 33 (KK and JJ pretty unlikely given the action). But there are plenty of hands we are still comfortably ahead of, and we also hold the A of hearts but backdoor possibilities.
That KK hand is just filthy. Unfortunately it sums up Skypoker quite nicely to a degree. Which is why we play here

I've seen many a complaint about CC but there are a few people there at least who are very helpful.... and its good to see both sides of the coin.
Played pretty solidly throughout that so pretty pleased with it.
I got heads up about even stack sizes.... then got dealt 72 about 10 times in a row... not much you can do when oppo is hitting flushes and straights and youre sitting there with bottom pair.
Anyway I finally picked up an ace (AJ) and jammed and got looked up by 33.
Game over.
Still 2nd is nothing to be shrugged at.... plus i blitzed past the 3000 C4P mark today where the £/p increases substantially... so all in all not a bad day.
Suppose it could have been a whole lot better.... but hey ho.

Want to see how you can convert 2.5 bb at 75/150 blind levels into a 6th place finish in the 2k BH.
I bet you do.
Nice.
However.... i'm uber proud of this lay down. A few months ago i'd be snapping this off then tilting cause my KK didnt hold.
Cutting out some leaks!
SO irritated... not sure ive ever been this annoyed about poker before.
Playing £1000 BH. All going well.... im one of the chip leaders and even have a few bounties.... then this happens.
Bad play or just unavoidable?
Anyway I get to the final three and Diva's connection has gone so its effectively heads up, and this was the hand that effectively won it.
Lets hope for another win later.
Then he flips over JJ. Is this a case of villain just being reluctant to fold a high PP or was this just a poor spot to try and take a measly pot?
Id created a believable story from the flop onwards and because I bluffed the flop its now a 600 pot by the turn which is quite sizeable... I guess I thought i could steal it off him.
Fair point. Dont get involved in pots you dont need to. Bluffing is almost always going to catch up with you unless you have such a tight table image.... but on sky things like that dont matter...
Apprentice! Pah. Youre giving me advice!
49th in mini
Dissapointed.
Shoved A10 into AA and AJ into AQ.
Had about 15 bigs in each hand so maybe i could have waited for a PP... but in both situations there was only 1 to act behind me and i thought id take a punt.
Hate this game sometimes.
Still in both...
Midnight tournament. 11 left... im sitting 3rd then this dh does this.
He did it earlier as well with pocket 7s and I clawed my way back into it.
ITS NOT A FREAKING BOUNTY HUNTER.
ARGH.

I've seen many a complaint about CC but there are a few people there at least who are very helpful.... and its good to see both sides of the coin.
Got to the final table of the 1k bounty hunter.
First hand on the final table this happens.
SO.FRUSTRATING.
Suppose it could have been a whole lot better.... but hey ho.
