    Cheers guys.

Am i right in saying you were the one with pink hair Lambert?  Or have I got you muddled with someone else?  Either way its a pity I didnt get to meet everyone I wanted to.

Think I'll have to qualify for another one now - SPTs are a good laugh.

Nice to meet you too Don.

Thanks Jonathan.  Pleasure playing with you too.  Just glad I cashed!  Well done on your cash too.  See you at the next one. Lol.

I had forgotten how loose a lot of the players are on here.  And when I say loose... I mean seriously loose.  Ive been offline for almost 2 weeks and have come back to some crazy play.  Another pro for the live column... people are much less likely to call off half their stack pre with K9os as 1) its not a bounty hunter and 2) itd make them look stupid.

Maybe I should just stick to freezeouts as getting back online and playing the bounty hunters has given me a kick in the groin after the last weekend.

Ran deep in the main however... finished 8 off the cash after making a rather silly error after I thought someone was bluffing. but apart from that its been pretty miserable.

Starting to wish I lived within 60 miles of a casino...

Really depends on when it is, what the entry is and if I can qualify for satellites or not.  I'd like to go for sure but its quite a distance from me too.  Lot of factors to take into account but il definitely be looking at qualifying somehow.

    Are you?
  • edited July 2013
Yeah mate. Just going for a bit of fun, sounds like a good weekend.

Buyin's £110. It's like 3 buyin's for a normal casino game, so that not bad for a good weekend.

Never really played sat's that much. I did a while ago before i knew to much about poker, and qualified twice for the main event on a thursday, prob just a bit of luck.

I'm prob just going to buy in direct.

Sounds good.  Bit cheaper than Nottingham so buying in direct isnt off the cards.  I wouldnt rely on betting in direct though.  There were a whole bunch of people that couldnt enter in nottingham cause it packed out.

Definitely worth playing a few sats to enter.  Great value there and means you can spend what you would have spent to buy in direct on travel whilst guarenteeing your seat before the event.
  • edited July 2013
I think you can buy in direct mate, via the site.

Wouldn't want to chuck loads of money at Sats. £10-£20 max.

I'll send you a message about Sats.
  • edited July 2013
    Pretty sound advice.
At Birmingham direct buy in didn't happen. Sats only.
DTD even with the bigger buy in and capacity only had limited seats available for direct buy in.

Satting in definitely seems the best option to me. Got to factor in expenses as well. Whilst I can only dream of making a day 2 it would obviously be prudent to factor it in.

    Edit:

You got there before me Henrik.
You sure direct buy in will be an option?
I may be wrong. (Often am)

Congrats on your cash in the SPT. Not bad for first live experience.

I,ve played about 6 , but still no cashes ( apart from a few bountys in the BH one)

Not sure where you live but i thought it was a pain being 25 miles from my "local" Casino. Its a bit crazy - 3 in Blackpool but none in Preston and whenever i go to Blackpool i bump into the same faces from Preston.

Maybe have a look at your local pubs to see if theres any games going. Its not quite the same as they have rules and limits with regards to prizepools although a lot of places often find a way round this and its always a good night out . Its suprising who you bump into. I,ve met a cpl of high stakes players on here in pubs playing for a fiver or a tenner. You can,t not learn from these ppl

GL with rest of your diary and if you go to newcastle - hopefully see you there

    Hi MP33.

Many thanks for the congrats.  I live about 20 miles east of Oxford.  I do believe there is a casino in oxford but its the type that advertises buffets instead of tournaments on their website so I havent even bothered.

I'll definitely look into a local pub game somewhere but will have to have a look at where exactly.  I do live a bit out of the way but i did enjoy SPT Notts enough that id consider driving a bit to find a game (obviously not too far).

Thanks for the wellwishes and hopefully I do find the dollar to make the trek up to Newcastle and meet you amongst some other forum regs i missed in Notts.

    Really? Gutted lol

I thought they ran sats then allowed direct entry couple of weeks before.

If you can only Sat in, I might not be able 2 go cause I don't want to be throwing money at sats, and not qualify.

Just treat sats as another tournament with £110 up top then it doesnt seem as bad...

No chance will Newcastle have direct buy in available. Gonna be sats or nada. I'm gonna give them a bash when they go live. Might need someone to share hotel costs...

got your PM. will try to reply tonight. no reason you shouldn't be able to sat in, although clearly more luck involved than direct buy-in!

and they will have alternates, I would have thought. i.e get there early and sign up on the waiting list. I think over 40 got into Notts that way. (on top of a starting field of 200+, so maybe half that at Newcastle?)

Dont you hate it went you knock someone out of a rebuy 3 times before the rebuy period is over... then they come and donk you out after the rebuy period has closed with K6os, 46os, A7os, 94os and K6os again after calling 4x raises every.single.bloody.time.

    Urgh.

Well I tilted slightly and entered the £1500 speed BH after going out of the rebuy in a horrid manor.  Got one bounty then bombed out after a few coolerish situations i really thought i had to fold.... plus the blinds went up pretty quick.

Went out the £2k BH like this... dont think i did anything wrong.  Tried to disguise my hand by raising (a favourite of mine... just unlucky he hit a two outer on the river).  I play my bluffs and my flushes in the same way.  I asked op why he called and he said he thought I was on the flush draw.  Fair enough I guess.  I suppose thats why I disguise my hands, for when the 9 doesnt spike the river.

So was feeling a bit dejected after this.  Entered a small BH - the community BH incidentally (which clearly noone from the community entered).

Went and won it for 70 odd quid so recouped a lot of todays loses so not all bad.  Final two tables in this tournament were all about shoving/calling ranges - something which I think I excel at compared to a lot of the rest of my game.  Rest of the table struggled with it which allowed me to bully them a bit even when I wasn't chip leader.

    E.g.:

Well done on the win Gaz!

With the coolers and badbeats as annoying as it is, just part of the game.

I know it's hard, but i wouldn't worry to much about it. Ultimatly, it's what makes the game exciting.

    Cheers Larson.

Yep I know.  Im guilty of dishing out one or two horrid bad beats now and again, although you tend to forget about those when youre running deep in a different tournament.

Think i've caught the live bug tbh.  Playing against good players live is really something I now relish (after one time looool).  Its the fact that you get to sit and ponder over a decision, act a bit, take reads off someone- all whilst actually getting out of the house.  Just sucks as I live nowhere near a casino and would definitely 100% start going on an occassional free nights instead of playing online.

One of those things I guess...
  • edited August 2013
lol if you want to play live try a pub game, there will be a pub closeish by that does poker.

Just google poker in your town or nearby where you live.

Tho, these games will only be for a fiver/tenner there won't be great money, but it will be fun and the standard will not be the best.

They area cheap night out lol

Awful mate, really awful play from villain.

Haven't played any poker this weekend.  One of my good mates is going to America for two years this week so we have made an effort to do as much stuff as possible before he goes.  Went out last night in Watford (messy), had a great time and got back just before the sun came up - had a bit of a hangover but decided to go watch the mighty Wycombe Wanderers beat Morecambe in their opening game of the season.

I also opted in for this free £5 bet accumulator promotion sky are doing today and backed:

    Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield - 4/5
    QPR v Sheff Wed - 5/6
    Reading v Ipswich - 10/11
    Barnsley v Wigan - 7/5

    Combined odds of 14/1.

That came in for a profit of £70.60.

Thinking of monitoring this on my diary here each week to give me an overall idea of how im doing.  As a football analyst I should probably be doing OK when the Premier League kicks in (no pressure) but its nice to start with a decent week!  I'll probably also post one or two things betting related (to help people win bets) now and again using my experience in the field to see if I can get people winning more money - we shall see.

But for now, my BR from a starting fiver is £75.60 + £5 free bet to use.

    Good day all in all.

Nice 1mate! Sounds like loads of people won today.

What are you using the free bet for, an evens shot? Or just gonna stick it on somethin with decent odds, seen as ur no gettin the stake back?

Think i'll put it on a treble of some sort.  If you think about it... If you can get a treble at 5/1 you have to win one in every 5 to make money assuming the same sake.  If you are getting a free bet its more like one in every 10 to make money (maybe 9 as you dont get your stake back).  So I think the plan will be to find 2 trebles each week at odds of over 5/1 and place a fiver on one and my free bet on another.... then I only have to win one in every 9 or so bets to keep my balance ticking over.

Just got into the Roller for £12.  Dont normally do SATs but decided id give it a go rather than commiting a whole heap of the bank roll to one tournament.  Pretty pleased I got in for cheap.  Takes the pressure off a bit when playing when you know what youre playing with is infact within a decent BR - so looking forward to that later.

It all came down to one flip really.  JJ />AK vs Aussie09 for the chip lead on the FT.  Held.  Different story in the 5k BH Sat.  Top 4 got seats into the semi.  I was sitting 6/8.  Picked up AK.  Button shoved on me.  I called.  BB called too.  AK v KQ v J10.  4 card flush for the KQ took the pot to him and I was done for.  Might try again in a bit as Id quite like to play the 110 bh but its waaaaaaayyyy out of my BR.... although that hasnt stopped me before....
