It was not all bad luck, by any means.

I made a horrific play in the last one I played, so bad that I decided to quit for the night, as I was so cross with myself.

With one eye on a bad set of numbers, & probably a tad frustrated with myself, a lad potted, & I re-potted with A-Q-4-5. Whatever did I think I could beat? We can shove with that if we are low-stacked & first to open, but call, or re-shove, no no no. Jeez.

Had a cracking cooler early doors, too, against Veronab who is a regular in these.

I flopped the wheel AND the NFD, & turned the nut flush. I'd potted the flop & got THREE callers, exactly what we need here because we can quarter them all, how good is this, I'm thinking?

On the turn, FOUR of us were all-in. Happy days.

But the 5 paired on the river, Veronab had the house, & THREE of us split the low. So I got 1,300 back for my 2,000 investment, when I had the nut flush, & the wheel. Incred!
Veronab was very gracious in victory, he's grand table company.

I put another shocking beat on Penguin7 again, he must be getting tired of me, but I think he ended up on the day. Well everybody ended up, bar me, I fancy.....

DiggerMan played a few. He's got moves, & he got me off a monster. I potted it pre with bad aces - A-A-K-Q DS - & he flatted in position. Ugh. It came all low, & 2 hearts. I bet, he snap calls. Uh-oh. Turn was a third low, & a third heart, I was all black cards. Check check. I checked the river, he jammed, I folded. He HAD to have the low there, probably the High as well. He might have been at it of course, but at BEST I was getting half, so daft to call.

I had a 3 way coup where I had the nut low, then the betting went all silly, & TWO players raised & re-raised all in. I reluctantly folded, on the turn, the nut low, I'm getting quartered here for sure. One guy had a full house for the high, the other guy was betting his straight - 4-5-6-7-8 - & took the low with his 7-8! Yikes.

It was that sort of day.

Richiegone played several, not seen him in PLO8 before, but he is a top top NLH player, & he seems solid at PLO8, too.

W4rlock played a few, that's Roy, another who came to Vegas with us a few years back, & his wife, Kelly, came too, same year as Dan Brown was there I think. Roy's wife is a teacher, & her school has just had an OFSTED Inspection (passed easily), but it must have stressed her terribly. He's taking her to Cape Verde for Christmas. MBN.

Charlie Chunter paid a short visit, ran his low only into my aces, missed, had a chunter, "well done Sky" & disappeared. Unlucky m8, but calling all-in with a low only means you need to get seriously lucky.

I somehow won a £5.50 one with HALF of one Big Blind, too. I was BB next hand, with HALF of a BB, & the two big stacks went to war with each other. What?!

Can't begin to imagine how much I could have lost without that sort of stuff. Guess I ran quite well in places, in truth.

Anyway, today I shall get back on the bike, full of hope & whatsit, & NOTHING will disturb my concentration.

This is getting a little tedious now lol... losing dominating races like AJ v A4 or K9 v Q9 seemed to be the order of the day today. Another small loss but feels like a win. I think I was about -£12 this morning. Then the low point of the evening was having won 11 games and lost 18... managed to grind it out to finish with won 21 games, lost 22, so a good improvement... although yet to have one profitable session of HU this week :(

Oh well, I'm getting it in good an insane amount of the time, I'm sure a day will come when I start holding far more often than I 'should'.

    Stats so far...

    Played: 296
    Profit: -£207
    Points: 2693

Unlucky Paul, looks like you are runing about as well as I am!

Keep plugging away, you have the game, it will turn soon enough, it is a numbers game.

I did better yesterday. Well, less worse.....

Ooh, be great if you could.

Yes, I'll be playing PLO8 DYM's all weekend. Gotta take advantage of those Double Reward things, we only have three days left!

I'm fine, thank you, hope you are, too.

See you later. I'll be on 3 or 4 Tables most of the time, so hard to chat much beyond "hi, gl all" sorta thing. I must say, the bunch that play PLO8 are tremendous fun, very lttle bad blood or chuntering. You see so many eye-watering beats in PLO8, & yet folks just accept it & move on.

I generally just play £5.50 & £11 ones unless none are going, but if you only play £2.25's, let me know, find me on the Table Chat Box, & I'll register for a few. I play as "tikay1".

    Good luck.

So, still plenty of red. Must do better.

Yesterday was really weird. The run-bad continued from Wednesday to begin with, & I somehow managed to lose 6 of the first 7 I played. How is that possible, in a low-variance game?!

And then, quite suddenly, it turned, my hands began to hold, & I was getting nice starting hands when I most needed them, at the "shove" stage.

I ended up with 6 straight wins on the bounce, & I was flying, but by now it was gone midnight, & the traffic was ebbing away. Ideally, I need to have enough traffic to play them in pairs, minimum, so I quit for the night with that 6 game run intact, & felt a little better about my performance.

I've now played 81 of the targeted 100 games, & expect to get over the line today, so that'll be one target achieved.

Losing money doing it does not sit well, though, so I just need to ensure I concentrate, do the right things, & hope I get some weekend run-good. The Double Rewards Promo ends at 9am Monday - effectively, for me - Sunday evening, so I need to exploit it whilst the Promo is running, it'd be daft not to.

Next week? Dunno yet. Will be a short week Online for me, as I head up to Nottingham on Friday for the SPT, & that'll be me gone for 3 days. I have some heavy work stuff to sort, too, so I won't have as much time to play next week. All the more reason to play more this weekend. ;)

Think I might give regular PLO DYM's a crack next, or maybe PLO8 cash again, at which I did OK last time.

Have to say, I've really enjoyed it, & it is quite lovely when people come to the chat box just to say "hi". It is such a wonderful relaxation for me. Front door locked, phone off, e-Mails off, just sitting & chilling & playing some poker. Love it.

Really bad set of numbers yesterday.

Played 18, won exactly half, but that included 5 x £11ers, of which I only won 2.

Woise still, I made 2 nad mistakes in two of those £11 losses, getting involved when I had no need to after doubling up early. The hands which cost we were standard coolers, no getting off either, but I had no need to be involved in the first place with my double average stack & several shorties around.

Also managed to lose with 7's full against rivered quads, these things hapen, but it was quite amusing I guess.

Really must improve my concentration levewls, that was the difference between a nice profit & a small loss yesterday, & I was as mad as a mad thing with myself.

99 games played this week so far, & I've really enjoyed it, but I must must must stop web-surfing & telly watching when I have 3 games on the go. Unforced errors are just daft, & it has cost me plenty.

Up to 2,233 Reward Points now, that DOUBLE REWARDS thing has been a Godsend. Two days of it remain, & I plan to fill my boots. Hopefully, stop losing money via unforced errors whilst doing so, too...

Still following your progress on this. It does make an interesting read the way you have set it all out. I stopped reading some diaries with pages of HH's but have a quick look at them all still.

So you are 180 (pence) down?.....that is a good score in darts you know?

Will you be including your Reward Points into your final loss/profit figures at the end of the month?
  • edited October 2013

So, it was a good weekend & Monday.

I had been puzzled by my poor performance, so I gave myself a good talking to, & changed a couple of things -

CONCENTRATE. I had to focus more, stop watching TV, surfing poker forums, & stroking the dog. In fact I have now realised I don;t even have a dog.

STRATEGY - I had been lulled into some bad discipline & habits in these DYM's, & had to change my ranges a bit.

It worked perfectly, & over Saturday, Sunday & Monday.....

    Played 43

    Won 29

    Lost 14

Profit over those three days was £42, which is about £1 per game, on a £6 per game average stake.  This is most satisfactory, but........was it just luck/variance, or have the changes really worked?

Time will tell, I plan to continue playing these until Thursday.

After that, I might switch to PLO DYM's, though, much to my surprise, there is less traffic than the PLO8's, or it seems so.

We will have to change that, then. And I bet we can.

    Ha!

Honestly, I can't read hand Histories, they make my head hurt, & my eyes bleed, but each to their own. Me, I'm a stats geek, so the numbers fascinate me.

    I made a profit on the 8 days of PLO8 DYM's of about £11.

Overall, including when I was playing NLH cash two months ago (where I lost £60), I am £1.80 down, yes, because, for the purpose of the experiment, I started with exactly £200. My Balance this morning is £198.20.

I have NOT included Reward Points in those profit & loss numbers, though I suppose I could or should.

I got £10.20 in September, & so far in October, I have accrued 2,688 points, which will be worth £26.88, so thus far I have earned £37 in Reward Points money.

I suppose that could be viewed as a £37 profit on my original £200 stake, (arounf 18% ROI), & I still have the stake, minus 2 quid.

It really is amazing what a difference those Reward Points make.

Have to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Nice stats, Tikay.

What sorts of mistakes are you seeing most commonly at the PLO8 DYMs? Might help some folks with their strategy. Unless they're Orford, in which case not a chance.

Nice work!   Some other good news - I see Morrissey is NO 1 in the charts again!  The book chart.  ;-)
  • edited October 2013

Tuesday was run-bad Tuesday, yesterday was wun-good Wednesday.

Lost all three x £11 on Tuesday. This is a bad thing, & it cost me dearly.

Yesterday, ran very good indeed, could do little wrong, & won all three x £11ers, & 5 out of 8 £5.50ers, for a £33 net profit on the session.

Even managed to bust FIRST hand of a £5.50, a record for me. Had the aces, double suited, good aces too, against K-K-Q-10, AIPF (!!), & I had him covered on both suits, but his danglers two-paired. Boo.

Also had a monster chip lead in another, then TWO players moved in, & I found medium Aces. This, tactically, was really a fold, but, you know, greed got the better of me, & the other two chopped it between them, both with Low style hands that hit straights. Bad play by me.

I did manage, remarkably, to win one when I had 60 (SIXTY) chips left, at 400-800. We were 4 handed, 2 of us woefully short, then, incredibly, the two big stacks went to war, & KABOOM one busted the other! Happy days.

Anyway, we are nicely in profit now, & have found our stride, now to see if that is just luck, & variance, or see if I can press on from here. Allowing for Reward Points in October, my £200 is now around £250. Vegas here I come.....almost.

My last session tonight before a 3 days break (sPT), & next week will be difficult, as it is UKOPS week, & I also have 2 Shows to do.

Never had so much fun. Poker's the greatest, it really is, so relaxing.

Hope to see a few of you tonight.

Undecided on whether to give regular PLO DYM's a spin in November - might do, be interesting, & I'd get a lot more games in per session, as they presumably end quicker.

been a good read tikay and interesting seeing your stats thought they would be better. not in a cheeky way just that when your on the tables your quite a tight player compared too quite a few from the dyms me included :@) .    it has been good in showing the swings that happen in the game too all.and shows me maybe i,am not doing as bad as i thought. i just maybe need too be a bit tighter and play less hands than i currently do. i may give this a try in november and maybe if you have time you could mabye give me some advice and pointers on how i could improve my game and stop throwing away my chips .... hope you have a good weekend

    Ha, Churchy!

You are a right pain in my side on those DYM's. ;)

I would happily give a few pointers, to you or anyone else, but I'm not setting myself up as an expert or anything, I'm famously known as a LolPro, after all.....

I DEFINITELY will sort a few tips for you later (bit busy right now), and I can GUARANTEE your results will improve.

    How about that?

You have a nice weekend up there in Glasgow, too. I'm at the SPT all weekend. What a life, eh? But sadly, no PLO8 DYM's until Monday, after tonight's session. See you later m8.

There MAY be some PLO &/or PLO8 Sit & Go's this weekend Slippy.

I am also trying to arrange one of THE most successful Online & Live Omaha players in the UK  to give an Omaha Teach-In for newbies.

I'm on the case, leave it with me.

One way & another, its going to be a very exciting weekend. Trust me.

Can I come then, it says anyone.

This "can an old dog learn new tricks" post of yours has been a great read, but there's a simple question that gives you the simply answer to this.

Can a man of your age stop  accidentally wetting  himself?
