In Response to Re: whats happened to LEAGUE STARS FREEROLL CASH??? / / 80.5% of Vote would like Cash Payout : Hi Alan, Are you really suggesting that Sky Poker favour the bigger players? The evidence to the contrary would take me all day to type. IMO, that is, of course. I don't think any site has such a bias towards the lower buy-in Levels, & if anything, the high-rollers are discriminated against.

Thank you for your reply. I did actually say...
''I feel that Sky Poker are trying to cater for those 'bigger' boys ''
I used the word  cater, not favour, FWIW. I don't think that this site, or any other for that matter, 'favours' the bigger players (or the ones who spend the most if you like) but whereas an 'average' player could perhaps buy into a MTT on here, they have now got to qualify through sats or league freerolls for this to apply now in most cases.
The bigger buy in tournaments are a good thing on the whole but I am just trying to make the point that they should not isolate just the 'big boys' who can afford these buy in amounts direct due to their bigger BR's.
I hope you can understand my point of view here Tikay even though I know you will never agree to it.

    Regards,

    Alan

Thank you very much for that reply Alan, & to be fair, & thanks to the way you explained it, (or my dumbschmuckness when I read your original Post?) I now understand your point better. And I agree with some, though not all, of it, but I certainly understand & empathise completely with your line.

All I can say is that for nearly 5 years now, much of my spare time (& all of it unpaid) has been devoted to the promotion of tournaments for, the "smaller" players, or as I prefer to call them, "regular guys", & for engaging with them to ensure that the poker world gives them - us - a fair crack of the whip. Decent structures should NOT be the sole preserve of the "big boys". I have helped to do this very successfully via my Chairmanship of APAT. I'm not bigging myself up here, simply trying to explain that if anyone cares about regular players, then I do, & I've got the CV to prove it.

Now, I don't set the Agenda here at Sky Poker, far from it (& just as well, most would say!), but believe me, if opportunities or situations arise where I think regular guys are being disadvantaged, I'm the first to get on Sky Poker's case. Ask them!

I don't do that by hooting & hollering on the Forum, that would make no sense at all, it would be ineffective. It makes me cringe to see guys with a good case going about getting their point across via shouty-wouty Forum Posts. That don't work! Under the radar cooey-wooey is the technical term. Winning the battle is the result. ;)

So, I'm 100% onside with the need to make sure regular guys get a fair deal. And in truth, I think, overall, they do, from Sky Poker. But they DO need to look after Billy Deep-Pocket, too.

Have a good weekend man, & I hope to see you tomorrow in Nottingham.

If the LS freeroll is a qualifier for the DS and we all know in advance, that's fine. But it was a mistake to change the LS prize structure at the end of the month, it should have been announced on the 1st of the month, then everybody would have been cool with the decision and could make their own personal choice whether they wanted to chase league points or not.

IMO the LS freeroll is now heavily favouring Sky's top 150 MTT players. The LS is essentially an MTT to qualify for another MTT. A DS seat is undoubtedly a handsome prize, but lets face it, an MTT specialist is much more likely to both qualify for the DS via the LS, and then go deep in the DS than a cash or STT specialist.

We now have a strange situation where it would be pointless for the top 150 MTT players to buy-in to the DS or enter qualifiers until after they have tried to win a seat via the LS freeroll, they will see the LS as having a soft field with plenty of cash and STT players. Also at least 300 STT and cash players are now much less likely to chase league points and hence may choose to play less often, or maybe chase points on another site.

After reading all the posts and replies here I still think it was a mistake to alter the LS prize structure. The DS probably would have filled all 50 seats anyway.

it seems most issues have now been addressed

to sum up " League Stars Freeroll is a bit like the London Marathon - it attracts a lot of runners majority of which take part for fun who dream of winning main event but rarely finish in the top 10 but still carry on as they hope to improve "

anyway time to get back to why i'm with sky poker to have fun & improve   dtw

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but as I type only 141 players who qualified in May have registered for this evenings League Stars freeroll. In theory 450 could have registered (though I expect the actual number is a little lower due to players who qualified in two leagues).

Surely this is going to be the smallest LS field ever, and it clearly demonstates the declining appeal of this freeroll that's been ongoing since the cash prizes were replaced. One day somebody at Sky will wake up and realise that if players aren't bothered about winning league points they may decide play less frequently, hence pay less in rake, or maybe even be tempted to play on another site where loyalty prizes are more attractive.

    Aaaargh!!!!

I had a good run, but just got knocked out in 12th place playing against a field containing many of Sky's elite MTT players. I missed the seats by only 2 places. That's the last time I ever bother chasing league points, the LS freeroll isn't a goal worth shooting for.
