Hillsborough. Got to leave aside the tragedy for this, far too tricky to discuss on fora
As for the modern stadium, the North stand was once hailed as an architectural marvel. Opened in 61 it was the largest cantilever stand built in Britain at the time. The South Stand is wonderful. Opened in 1914 and designed by Leitch. It has a trademark Leitch gable which contains a clock and is adorned with a copper football. Go there today and it is probably the best preserved of any of the Leitches remaining, of which there are nine.
The ground itself lacks investment nowadays. However there used to be nothing quite like the sight of looking at the famous Kop, a really cavernous stand extending seemingly miles into the air, at full throat.

Dirt? Nope, don't think so. Well no more than he has on me! Plenty of stories. Mostly about him falling asleep at venues.
Swindon. Forever etched in my memory for a 4-3 play off final defeat in the early 1990s. Ugh.
The County Ground itself...hold on a minute Swindon...the roundabout system near the ground...OMG. Horrific. Back to the ground which is becoming a bit of a throwback
These days you don't see many sets of floodlights anymore. Most of the new grounds have them built into stands for example but at Swindon there is a corking set, clearly visible from the London to Bristol train line.
At the home end, the floodlights go through the stand roof to the floor and they even sell seats behind the pylons.

A reasonably typical new ground, this one is from 1995. Designed by Birse and McAlpine to the same spec (for reasons of cost) as Derby, Leicester, Southampton etc
I find these stadia too bland and uniform. Give me the character of somewhere like Ayresome Park anyday (Ayresome Park's barrel roof=stadia p o r n)
Quick story.
Leicester City had a Tuesday night game in Middlesborough. I was working in London but was five years into a "don't miss a match phase". Couldn't get a train there, had also to be at work that morning too
Only solution was to take the afternoon off, National Express coach up, watch match, National Express coach back overnight. Straight into work from Victoria coach station for 7am the next morning
We lost 2-0. Bernie Slaven.
Back to the stadium. I like the two statues outside of Hardwick and Mannion

Kettering
Possibly the most absurd naming deal of any currently in existence, Rockingham Road= Elgoods Brewery Arena.
Dwarfed by the main stand, I find this ground very pleasant. Visited for a pre-season friendly last Augsut and in the height of Summer it was leafy and picturesque.
Interestingly I sometimes play poker against Chairman Imraan Ladak who plays at Luton. More often he is to be found in big private cash games. He's a fish, but a very dangerous fish. Made his fortune in medical supplies, he did
Back to the ground, I gather they are planning to move, which they would need to to progress further up the ladder with three sides standing
Exodus Geohagahn is the best name for a footballer in the world.
Was there on that fateful day in the south stand (had been selling progs) so neutral observer, but thats another story.
Hillsborough, as you may have heard has had plans made for a big development of the Stadia including geting rid of the viewing restriction seats, increasing capacity to 44,825, create community facilities in the North Stand, A learning Zone in the West Stand to name but a few, Exiting times coming up

Im Impressed . Weve been planning on moving for years now, it just never happens, our council gets the blame for it most of the time. Its a shame because weve got a decent squad and were 2nd in the league at the moment but as you say we cant get promoted should we win the league anyway.
Having not played these before (or live at any casino), can you give an indication of start times and how long it is likely to last please?
Thanks
Arsenal fan (no facts on impressive but bland and annoyingly named Emirates stadium please - I still pine for the wonderful Highbury stands as I am sure you do).

Last year registration started at 12 noon with the game starting at 2pm, most went onto 1 or 2 am
just a thought ,wouldnt it be more easier 2 pay entry 2 final dtd, than pay 100 and try and qualify ,myself personally these qualifiers r out of my price range + the final ,i have coaxed a couple of m8s too try and play next year ,as i we all did enjoy swansea last year, they came with me for support .........they have sort of bn learning the game ,and have bn interested in playing next year ,but when i tell them its 100 bucks to play i know now i can forget it ,i will try and qualify myself ,and i will come along e ven if i dont ,but i hope i do ,it was a unforgetable experiance

Dont forget to play the legs 1 to 5, you CANT buyin, and will only be given entry through the satellites, so the cost, if you get through 1st time will be max £20,probably.
understood col my mistake ,u have too qualify for the 5 legs ok m8 ,so only 3 from each leg goes 2 the final ?thats 15 ,itake it u can buy direct 2 the final then?
I know nothing has been decided yet, so we are all speculating, but i would be VERY suprised if the final is direct buyin only!! I'm 90% sure they will have satelites to the main event, Tikay himself always says he trys to promote "Value" in poker and i can't see him aggreeing to having £250 buyins only, not many community players will have a bankroll over £2,500
The Grand Final at DTD will, like Legs 1 to 5, have Super Satellites on SkyPoker.com In fact, I imagine they will run night & day for months in advance of the Grand Final. Now, where's that Richard? Reading his football stadia geeky books, no doubt. Richard? RICHARD! Posted by Tikay10
You called?
(Like this for years he's been, sitting in his mansion like Old Mr Burns off the Simpsons while I run around to his every beck and call)
SPT Richard will be at a Meeting for a good part of today, in London, so he may not be Online until later this afternoon.
In fact, he is Meeting with me & some other dudes, at a Hotel near Heathrow. Afterwards, I plan to show them the British Airways Maintenance Hanger, Concorde (which is parked there), & we can watch the planes taking off & landing.
Don't worry, Richard thinks he's a geek, but I can outgeek him any day. I can.
Just saw the WSOP 2007 ME Final table. Jerry Yang hitting runner runner straight to win it... I am telling you TK poker is fixed add Mr Negreanu's bad beat in this year's WSOPE ME.... Do you know something I think all the people that complain over bad beats should watch they way these guys took their bad luck, for 6 and 7 figure losses.
I predict a massive 'bad beat' at the SPT lol and the verbals that will follow - oh no they won't as we will be in person and the keyboard warriors can't hide behind their screens....
So my question is, as some people think Sky Poker is rigged (and all other sites) what are Sky going to do to make sure the live cards do not provide bad beats? I am thinking perhaps taking an extra card to suit the probability of the favourite actually winning the hand...
Sorry in cheeky mood today. Probably only way I can handle the DYMS I am going to take on later
The truth is, the bad beats we see in Live Poker are identical to those we see Online.
The difference is that those who suffer them cannot blame the software, or in fact anything, so they have to accept defeat like grown-ups. Also, peeps get very brave behind a keyboard & sound off rudely, but when they are face to face, they are as meek as lambs.
The beauty of poker is that it exposes our character, our soul, our backbone. Or lack of them.
As I have done in all sports that I used to play - I have the philosophy of 'well played and good luck'. Then look back, take a look to see if you played the hand (tennis match etc) correctly then on to the next challenge.
The only people at the SPT that could even get out of hand are the drunks so lets hope that doesn't happen.
Tk do you have plans to go to most of/all of the legs?

We did have a few alcohol-related issues last year. We will not be having them on this Tour though. Read into that what you will!

I consider myself to be a polite drunk lol. Not sure I understand what you mean by read into that as you will. Will booze be banned at the table or something???

No no, not at all. But some folks can't hold their ale, & become rude & obnoxious to others, & disrupt the enjoyment of others at the table. The idea is for everyone to enjoy themselves, so if anyone wants to spoil it by becoming drunk & abusive, steps will be taken to ensure the day is not spoilt for others.
One player got badly out of line at The Broadwey leg last time, due toi alcohol issues, so he got himself banned from the Grand Final, even though he qualified.
"Polite drunks" (& funny drunks) are fine & dandy! Abusive & obnoxious drunks are not.

Proper geek, him.
Imagine him & I on the same TV Show, lol!
Anyway, he'll be at all the SPT gigs, & maybe we'll get some Trivia comps going at some stage of the weekend.
Wait till you play a Tighty SNG though. Oh lordy lordy......

St James Park - yes, it's a great big ugly concrete & steel jobbie jobbie in the middle of Newcastle Town Centre. Newcastle United play there.
Who needs SPT Rich?
Next question please.
Lol Dave.
