Earlier today realised not remembering a DOH' post for a while. What happened? Did he suffer a major malfunction?

Anddddd we're back in the room :)

Best behaviour now, I'm handing in my shield.

Hope you're all well on & off the tables.

Brief summary of October to follow......
  • edited November 2014
    Welcome back fatty :)

  • edited November 2014

October has been a challenging month.

After a brief self imposed break at the start, it turned out to be my highest volume month of the year on Sky Poker.

The plan was to continue with the Sharkscope challenge which began mid September, playing mainly HU sngs with some donkey hunters thrown in where apropriate.

For long periods of the month I was breaking even, 'booking' smallish wins, or small/medium sized losses.

I was struggling for any momentum, as soon as I made any sort of progress I'd be hit by some ill timed run bad which frustrated me, and induced 'play bad' and we all know there's only 1 outcome when you're playing bad and running bad at the same time.....

The results can be seen below....

I was on the wrong end of some sharkscope variance this month also.

Profited from some 'added value' sats, winning 3 x £33 sats in 1 night, alot of which doesn't show due to the overlay :(

Profit required at start of challenge = 2,077

    Profit so far = $1362

    Required = $715

When I was struggling mid month, I mixed the game selection up by playing some MTTs elsewhere.

The 'month saver' came on 888, when I finally got the elusive 4 figure score.

At the time I was extremely disappointed not to take it down, losing 77 < 44 all in pre flop for the win when Heads Up, and eventually 66 < 89s (dirtyyyyy flip) aipf for almost all the chips to bust.

Also final tabled an MTOPs for the 2nd time ($110ish), unfortunately busting 9th in a 55cent hyper turbo rebuy.

Crazy/fun tournament, the average stack on the final table was 3.5xbb.

My 3xbb lasted 1 hand when I found TT utg and lost to AK :(

So October overall was good to me, chuck in the 50 odd quid rakeback and we were around $2k up. Have good momentum moving forward into November too.

If Everton can find a late winner here, the month will have started awesome :)

Got some hands and stuff to post sometime, but wanted to keep this to just results.

Good luck all playing over the weekend.

VWP!   Not really surprised as you're a lucky sod!  ;-))   I bubbled two of those £33 sats!   I really cant complain tho as I seem to do quite well in them!  Better than RR to be sure. GL in Nov.

Can we have October back plz? :(

Loadsssss of near misses yesterday afternoon.

The most annoying was 15th/400 in a $3.50r with $1k ut. 3bet shoving 20 blinds over a mid position opener with 88. Cold called by the big blind, and lost to KK. :(

HU sng action is normally really slow on a Sunday. I think a lot of people are playing tournaments, or spending their poker allocation on roller sats or maybe 'majors' elsewhere.

For that reason I gave them a miss, and ummm'd and arrrrr'd for ages about playing the PLO UKOPs event.

I'm not very good at PLO, never really play it, but I expected a lot of people to be in the same boat. The game itself is a great leveller, if you've got a basic idea then you should be able to get your chips in with at least reasonable equity.

The plan was to play quite loose early, see flops v the inexperienced players who may over-value over-pairs, weak flushes and straights and bad 2 pairs etc.

Then, as the blinds got bigger and the better players remained, tighten up and try to play big pots all in pre flop, taking away any post flop edge these superior players might have.

It worked great, I was chip leader for most of the first hour, and held my position in the top 5 throughout.

Then the bubble approached, and it all went wrong. :(

Couple of key hands, which I think were standard, but probably aren't.....

    Doh !

Went on mini tilt and played a few £21 hypers.

    Lost a few £21 hypers.

Silly game selection there, paid the price.

Can't get in touch with my 'skoper' to update the 'challenge' figures, but think it was a -£120 day on the tables (losses in £ as always :) offset by a £53 skybet win as City struggled over the line in the Derby.

Congrats to Craig, Roguecell, Jac & Hitman for their great results last night. UKOPs off to a good start.

I'm not normally that bothered about UKOPs, I never play the events, but I've invested fairly heavily this series, am really up for railing a few of the 'horses' of which are 4, deep in some good events.

Happy with the choices, if it goes wrong then meh. I still think I've got m £££ in in good spots.

Challenge results to follow, gl to every1 playing UKOPs this week :)
  • edited November 2014

    Morning.

Finally got an update on the numbers.

My break even stretch on sky is getting longer, I'm making zero headway in the mini skope challenge, which has led me to playing more elsewhere again.

The highlight, (if you can call it that) of last week was a deep run in a micromillions event.

It was exciting and terrifying at the same time.

The effects of making a mistake deep in a big event like that are devastating, if i'd blown up I'd just feel puke and sub consciously tilted for weeks.

Anyway I bust in 24th place out of 10,000 for $80. "lollll".  $5,900 for the winner !

Pretty happy with my exit hand, I think it's a clear shove. Screenshot below.

How do they find those 2 hands in the blinds????

Had lots of other runs without any noteable wins. Feels like I finish 11th in every single mtt I play at the moment.

Profit required at start of challenge = 2,077

    Profit so far = $1232

    Required = $848

    -----------------

    UKOPs staking isn't going great.

All horses keep bricking mains and crushing minis! :(

Of the 4 people I've backed 2 have won minis, one has come 7th and 8th in a mini, and the other is Lambert.

    ;)

    Main tonight though, high hopes.

Even if it goes wrong, I'd do exactly the same if UKOPs ran again next week.

Much happier with people taking shots with my £ than I am taking shots with my own.

    ---------------

Apparently it's 2x points on sngs this week.

I'm hoping the action will be good and I can get going and finish this stooooooopid challenge that's annoying me so much.

Sunday today though, so mainly mtts on the menu.

Already attempted and lost my first flip of the day. Omlette broke in the pan.

Things can only get better  :(

    GL all playing today.

Long time reader, first time poster... I had a good weekend laugh at this. I'm sure Lambert is trying his best.

It's pretty horrible to wade through a field of 10,000 (after however many hours that must have taken) and then only get eighty bucks at the end of it. But, going with the glass half full scenario... look how many other players you surpassed on your way to that eighty bucks. That's got to feel good, right? ;)

Good to have you on board Slip, but no, zero satisfaction. Lots of pain. Not as much as yesterday though.

    4pm, £11 BH.

Go into the FT 1/6 for the 2nd time in 2 sessions.

The first time was Sunday, when I lost 2 hands in quick succession to go from hero to zero and bust 6th.

So yesterday, go into the FT again with the chip lead, extra focussed not to mess it up again.

    Bossed it.

3 handed, I have 100k of 115k chips in play.

Bit of trouble getting rid of the 3rd place guy, but 90k v 25k going into HU @ 800/1.6k still looks good.....

I dunno the maths, but I must be a long shot to lose all 5 of those for the win :(

Still a decent result, and a good HU session to follow made it a follow made it a productive day, now within $500ish of the $25k 'goal'.

UKOPs ended how it started, no real look for the horses in the main, but we did get a 1st and a 6th in the side and the mini, again all off stake :(

    Next time !

Profit required at start of challenge = 2,077

    Morn'n.

If there are any 'regular' readers here you're probably as bored of reading about the $25k challenge as I am writing about it and trying to complete it.

    But it's DONE ! Finally.

I've had frustrating periods of break even-ness on Sky this last couple of months, but I was lucky enough to win a seat in the £55 turbo BH last night and managed to play well throughout and then awfullllll HU to finish 2nd.

Very disappointed, but the silver lining is it nudged me above $25k profit lifetime in sky formats that end in tournament :)

Heres a graph of my progress throughout the challenge, it took 2 months and 2 days, and 877 games to complete.

Looks like I donked some off HU after the MTT last night, forgot about that :(

I've been watching alot of live poker streaming recently on Twitch.

Most poker enthusiasts will probably already be aware of Jason Somerville and his 'run it up' series.

They're really fun/easy to watch, and you can really get inside his head and pick up how he is thinking. It's massively benefitted me. Unlike books/strategy vids which are pretty heavy going at times, it's a really enjoyable way to learn.

Google him and check his content out if you haven't already. Loads of his old shows on youtube, all free.

I'm not too sure on 'grind plans' for the next week or so, my computer is right next to the bathroom, which is finally going to be ripped out and replaced over the weekend and probably well in to next week :(

May just grind 2/3 tables downstairs on the laptop or something, or have a few days off altogether.

I won a £150 free bet last week also, need to find a use for it before Sunday. I'm struggling!!

    Any tips???

I managed to fade Dons reccommendation for Scotland to win by 2 or more last night.

Got out of jail free there.

    Good luck all playing today!

.....to venture to the outside world! That challenge will be tougher I think ;)

Well done Doh. You will be coaching/turning pro in the New Year at this rate

Congrats on reaching your goal! Been a Jcarver fan since his 'eating cake' poker series some time ago. His twitch streams and MTT content is great to watch and learn from.
Feel like streaming on twitch is going to be huge for poker over the next few years and another guy worth checking out is PokerStaples who sells action in all the sunday majors then streams it with a 4 minute delay. Slightly less entertaining then Somerville but he talks through all he decisions extremely well. GL on the next $25k

Goal setting is a challenging process in itself Alan.

    They must be .....

    S pecific

    M easurable

    A ttainable

    R ealistic

    T imed

    E valuated

    R eviewed

5 out of 7 isn't bad. But it's not quite good enough, for that reason, I'm out. Or not out. or Whatever.

    I dunno Chris, any suggestions?

I'm open to trying most things that aren't too difficult. As tough challenges are tough. right.

I can't do a GaryQQQ and turn nothing into Something.

Or a Ivan and turn something into alot.

Am ok at turning something into 'abit more' though.

Maybe another crack at PLO. !?

I'd have thought Somerville would have made enough money in The Communards to not need to do poker coaching.

    Well done on goal

Very disappointed, but the silver lining is it nudged me above $25k profit lifetime in sky formats that end in tournament :)http://gyazo.com/8ae415fca0b1d29c3338178783ff9aa6 Profit required at start of challenge = 2,077 Profit so far = $2,097 Required = Nowt ! Depends if you wanna make some decent money, if your happy making say say £100 well actually £99.54 (assuming you lose the stake) over 1.5 goals treble in the following three games looks solid

    Chelsea v West brom
    City v Swansea
    Arsenal v United

Perosnally I'd make it a 6 timer and throw in

    Watford v Derby
    Bristoly city v Preston
    MK Dons v Portvale

For a little over 300 profit

Hi Shuv, the nit instincts in me initially wanted to just stick it on something at evens and lock up £150 in cash, but I'd be losing so much value doing that so going to try and gamble for once.

Looking for something between 4/1 and 10/1, hopefully get lucky and punish the bookies properly :)

It only has to be placed this weekend btw, it can be for an event in the future such as the darts World C'ship, FA Cup etc etc....

Something longer term might be most fun as I'll get to sweat it for a few weeks/months rather than losing it 1 afternoon.

    Any longer term ideas?

Cant do long term, does my head in, that trebble I Posted will annoy me as theres a 5.30 game in it, no patience, exactly why im so shoddy at poker, doubt i would last to the weekend, Captain Cat in the 6.25 @13/8 would be getting my money

    Chelsea
    Derby
    Bristol C
    Bury

All to win their respective leagues, is 50/1+ and if done each way should represent great value

or to make it lower variance id say a bristol city and derby double must be 7/1 plus and im probably going to back that myself as they have the squad depth and consistancy to at the very least give you a good sweat til the end of the season

Well played Dohhlad, was a pleasure to be the one to do the scope search which showed you had got there. Thinking back I should have been cruel and said you was a little short as I often get told that!
