Come on you Rams! 2 points off the play-offs now and some money to spend in January. Still not sure what to do tonight. Casino, favourite at the moment. Just looked up 'Paul Calf' that Tikay quoted from a couple of days ago. Can't believe it's 20 years ago and prolly hardly anyone on here has seen it. Early Steve Coogan stuff. Loved the opening to it "Hello, my name's Paul Calf, support Man City. Like drinking, like a laugh, chat, you know - bit of a debate, argument, scrap, fight, punch up, break some bloke's nose, I like life" Always liked Coogans stuff. Preferred "Knowing me, knowing you" to Alan Partridge. I'm in the minority there. Really enjoyed "The Trip" with Rob Brydon. It was pretty poorly reviewed. Lot of stuff about it being 'smug' and 'self-serving arrogance'. I just thought it was clever and funny. Boom! Just found 'Knowing me, knowing you' on Lovefilm Might be staying in tonight now.

Love his work. Really enjoyed The Trip too, thought Coogan and Brydon worked well together - love a good tragi-comedy mix, powerful ending when he returns home to the flat I thought. Have watched it back on DVD a couple of times, some great outtakes on there too.

KNKY /> IAP ?? You're right sir, you are in the minority!

EDIT - PS - if you've not had the pleasure of the Partridge autobiography, get it on audiobook, just amazing!

Played the £30 rebuy at Derby last night.
Good comp, casino added 500 as it got over 40 runners.
Got nowhere at all and had a frustrating, but right call, by TD  on my all in hand.

Cut off opened for 2500 and I shoved my last 11000 with King 10 hearts. He snapped with Ace J which I was happy with.
2 heart flop and then binked  the K on turn. Happy days.
TD was only one who noticed that the dealer hadn't burned the turn card. (I'd done the standing up thing) and didn't notice myself. So K was burned and brick, brick and I'm gone.

Played some cash and won a fair bit and drunk a fair bit.
Drink can be the only explanation for triple barreling 52 against the table station. Had him on a draw and it's a bit of a buzz when he insta mucks after I shove on the river. Would have been gross if I'd given up and lost a £400 pot to J high :)

Had a big hand where I peeled a 3 bet to £21 with 33. 4 others in pot. Flop was all diamonds and gave me the set. Guy led for £75 and I shoved for £310. He calls. 4th diamond on turn was scary and then I filled up on river. He had aces but no diamond, so I was ahead anyway.

Got away with one where I flatted the big blinds reraise to £12 with 10 9 along with 3 others. He then shoved his last £50 on 10 9 K. Obv gonna snap but then next guy resolves for 200. I let it go and reshover had the nuts. Lucky he didn't flat, board was rainbow. A couple of players then decided to give him a hard time saying how bad he was. No need for this at all, I thought he was great. :)
Just got up an hour ago and my head is pretty sore! Had fun though, live pokers fun.

    Yet I love this post.

Obviously not the fact that you've had a poor day.  More the fact you can sum it up in 9 words what i'd probably write in 500 words.

Was about to delete the above post but had second thoughts.

It's a fine line. No one wants read moaning posts about losing nights. Problem is, then when you post after a good night someone will say that you only post when you win. Troublesome.

Not sure whether to retire this thread again.
There's no interaction, prolly least read thread on here. That's all my fault. I do just drone on a lot.
Think I'm in a bad mood tonight and sulking a bit.
On the plus side, bought a cracking pair of new slacks today
    Best leave it there.

    Good luck all.

Just realised I missed a Steve Coogan discussion!

Absolutely love Coogan. For me I'm Alan Partridge (moreso the 1st series) is better than Knowing Me, Knowing You but they're both great. I've seen the early stuff like Paul Calf... can't remember what the character's name was but he was like a spanish club singer and the song that comes to mind that he did was 'lapdancing lady'... definitely worth youtube-ing if you don't remember it.

I didn't realise The Trip got bad reviews but I loved it. Just felt like 2 genuinely good mates just having a laugh (in a good way), remined me of when I was younger and would go out loads with a mate of mine, Frankie, and it was very similar... less impressions, but always kinda trying to outdo each other but never nastily.

You make a good point, I always feel the same, I don't like to moan... well I do lol but I don't like to fill my diary with it cos no1 wants to read it, but then as you say, people will say 'oh you only post when you're winning'. Like back in the day if IDCU was posting, he was winning, if he wasn't, he wasn't lol, don't wanna be like that, and a few have commented on my diary that they think it's good I'm open about the bad times too.

    Gulp!
I had a feeling this morning when I woke that was reminiscent of days gone by. You know the one, when you wake up in a bed that you soon realise isn't your own. "Have I done something silly? "
I turned on the ipad and was met with a resounding, YES

Never a good idea to post after having a drink, being knackered and having lost money.
Grim reading.  Certainty,  my most embarrassing post yet.
Particulary cringeworthy as the bit about not posting anymore.  What a hypocrite. Ive been vocal in the past about people doing the attention seeking I'm leaving stuff. And then I do it.

I'll leave the post there as a reminder to myself. Please disregard it all other than the "tool" bit.
Oh, and the bit about the slacks. They reallt are excellent" by Hugo Boss, which is a lttle bit ironic,  don't you think? ...
Thanks for kind words people.  I don't deserve them.

what do you expect when you ask questions about classical music and then don't acknowledge a reply
or was it just a cricket in-joke that i didn't get
    whatever

    quid pro quo jac

(all very tongue-in-cheek, haven't started drinking early)

I often find this with my thread.  Perhaps people don't like ramblings of young and old men alike?

I'd like to think there are a few people who read my diary who don't post too.  I find on occassions that some people on the tables start talking to me purely because they know I have a diary whether they've posted on it or not.... which is nice.  Thats certainly one positive in having a diary - that people recognise your name and dont mind starting a conversation.  Makes for a nicer nights poker than everyone just sitting there as strangers.

Must have caught you near the end of your bad run last night, when you gave a tiny chunter. Thought it was a standard shove spot from my point of view, maybe not, maybe you had too many BBs. Suddenly felt very guilty that I'd done something wrong, not something I'd normally concern myself with.

Anyway, that interaction thing... have you heard the Partridge audiobook? It's a must.
  • edited November 2013
Oh yeah knew I left something out from my Partridge reply.... The 'autobiography' is very good, I 'read' it as an audiobook and while I do usually preferring doing the reading myself I imagine it was probably better in audiobook form for this one cos it's read in the voice of Partridge. Very good.

This made me feel like the sort of person who spends 20 minutes enjoying a buskers music making abilities and then wanders away w/o leaving as much as a shilling in his guitar case.

Soooooo let me tell you that this thread is a gem. You have a very entertaining writing style which showcases a real eye for the good, the bad, the ugly and the comedy of human behaviour and interactions. A honest diary should cover the highs and lows so please keep chuntering about the badbeats and suck outs (for the most part you have a most eloquent chuntering style).

Hope you run better tonight. Wear the new slacks, they may be as lucky as they are stylish!!

    Oh no!
I feel really terrible now. I spoilt your enjoyment of the game. Of course it was totally standard Mike. Ak v pair late on in a Dym. I'd just lost a few flips in quick succession and think I wrote "shock" in the chatbox?

I hate to think I would offend anyone in a chatbox. Certainly not you, you're one of the nicest people I've ever met.
    I'm really sorry.
    .....
I'll move on now. No, I hadn't heard of the audiobook and to be honest I've never bought one. However, a Partridge one? I think I might have a look at that.

Thanks very much. That means a lot.
Another forum I go on, shows the amount of views on each thread. Maybe they could be added here. It would help my very fragile ego!

Lack of interaction? I'd say this was the most popular Diary here, or not far off it.

I agree, it would be better if there were "View Counts", as you mentioned they have elsewhere, but there are many things that would help, too, like emoticons etc.

The Business knows the View Counts, but choose not to publicise them.

I love the honesty in this Diary. Most (not all) Diaries amount to "I played well & won", or "I ran bad & lost", very few are honest enough to admit their failings & weaknesses.

    Keep it going.

When is the "Big Day", when your new arrival is expected?
