Still playing the BH....here is a hand where I was unsure about...

Reads on villain......very shove happy, he had recently doubled up after open shoving 1.5k stack with A3o and getting looked up by a guy with 22. So, wasn't sure what to make about his shove here. Must be beat???

Fold fold fold. No way you need to call here and risk your entire tournament.  Limped pot. You really think he'd be shoving with 5X? much more likely to be 22s or a straight. You arent even beating a lot of 7X hands. Definite fold IMO. Only reason id call is if I had reads on the player and notes from previous MTTs.

Well, this is the first time I have been on since Saturday afternoon. What a heavy weekend!

Watched the froch fight....what a fight, best one I have seen for many a year. Two warriors!! So pleased that froch won but I still think he will struggle against ward again, even if the fight is in England. Anyway, just about recovered now so finally going to play some poker.

Re: the last hand I posted.............I called. The reason being because of his open shove with A3o 2 hands before. In £2.30 BH's there are plenty of players who will go crazy with so many hands that I beat here and I put this guy in that bracket. Not to be this time though, he obv had A4 lol. I fold here the majority of the time but this was a player dependant call that I got wrong!! I did take one head though so could have been worse I guess.

    BR = £42.20

Playing some freerolls to start with today then will think about some BH's and the £1.10 DS later.

If I win this hand I'm a massive chip leader, in profit with head prizes and confident that I could push onto the ft.

This dropped me right back down the field and needless to say I never recovered, finally getting my chips in with 77 against AK and not holding. Finished 29th with 18 cashing. Only positive was that I made £2.06 in head prizes so can't complain too much. Just frustrating to feel the tide turning then getting kicked again.

Full BR update later as I have reg for the DTD 2 (£1.10) and the £500 BH (£2.30).........pleeeeease let me cash!!!
  • edited May 2013
Tonights poker has come to an end. Once again it was a unsuccessful evening. I'm getting closer and closer to cashing but failing everytime. Apart from the £250 BH earlier I have never really been able to build up a commanding stack which concerns me slightly but I am starting to improve slowly.

In the £1.10 DTD 2 I never really got going and with 75 left I got my chips in as a reasonable fav 88 v A5...only for an Ace to come on the river.

The hands were reversed in the £500 BH. I got off to a fortunate start winning a 3.5k pot with AK v K6 on a K68 flop....ace on river. After that I never really built up a decent stack and was always around average. I did lose a crucial hand in the mid stages where I got rivered for a 7k pot and what would have been a nice head prize. After that I was always fairly short and looking for a spot to double up. With 9bb left it was folded round to me on the button so I shoved my A5 only to be looked up by 88.......an 8 on the flop knocked me out 4 short of the money, close but no cigar. I had one head prize of 94p.

I have had a reasonable chance of cashing in 2 of the 3 mtt's I have played today, especially the £250 BH where if one hand had held I would have had a great chance of making the ft. The falling BR is a concern though and if it does fall to the £30 mark then I am going to have to try some 4nl to try and build it back up.

BR = £39.50........cash very much needed!!

Change of plan tonight, and probably all week. I decided to 3 table 4nl for about 90 mins.....why?

    1. Because I'm always too tired to focus on mtt's during the week as I'm quite busy with work and kids etc..
    2. I feel this is the best way to try and build my roll (with the odd mtt thrown in at weekends).

The session went really well so I suppose it's easy for me to say 4nl is the way forward at this stage. I know there will be BAD sessions along the way but it was good to get off to a good start at least. I'm not playing anymore tonight as I wanna chill a bit before bed.

Below are my 2 biggest winning hands......thoughts on how I played them appreciated.

    1. The oppo had just lost a £7 quid pot literally the hand before so I was well aware he could easily be on tilt here. Slight worry about the flush but even if he has it (which I thought was unlikely given the circumstances) I have the Ac as slight insurance. Hand played ok? Bet sizing? I feel I should have maybe 3 bet bigger pre?

All gravy apart from maybe just bin Q7 pre (or raise). I sometimes make up with junk and end up winning a small pot or losing a decent one, a part of my game I'm trying to improve on.

Plus he always has the goods when he bets pot on river there.

yeah fully agree....hands like this show why it is not good practice to call the extra 2p with junk. As for the call on the river.....bit of positive tilt me thinks, I was feeling invincible at the time, that brought me back down to earth haha

By far the most interesting hand of the session was the one that cost me the most. Oppo is a well known reg (up to them if they wanna give me their thoughts on the hand if they read this). Still not too sure what to make of it.

When he 3 bets and somebody else calls in front of me I'm really not sure what to do......Is it 4 bet or fold?? I'm in position and don't really wanna get it in pre if I'm shoved on, so I just call. Bad?

Anyway, the flop is perfect for me. I c/c to keep oppo in the hand as he is more than capable of folding big hands, which I don't want him to do.........Is this wrong??? On the turn I feel now that I should have shoved but again I don't want a fold. Are you calling a shove there oppo???? I'm guessing you are or why call the £2.65.

River is cruel.......but I get the feeling I played this hand that badly that I asked for it. If you are reading this oppo then I would be interested to hear your thoughts, especially the turn? I will leave your name out in case you don't see this. BTW........nh (spose)!!

Re: the JJ hand. Big thanks to lambert for explaining that because the oppo's 3 bet range (especially because of the sizing) here is narrow I'm very rarely in good shape and should prob be folding pre. Now, oppo will 3 bet light and own my backside (but then again, I may not fold......I prob will!)

Another hour or so 3 tabling 4nl......just CBA to play much this week, the summer months are quite busy at work and I find myself too tired to play for long (must be getting old!)

It was a winning session, nothing spectacular but I will take a session like this everyday if it means things start going in the right direction. I'm gonna give 4nl a serious go I think.....90% cash 10% MTT. I do enjoy it and I like the fact that I can stop playing whenever I want, just hope variance is kind until I can afford the beats!

Anyway below are my biggest winning and losing hands of the session.

The oppo in this hand had had a decent stack when I sat down but was quickly spewing to anyone who wanted it, so I was confident a big 3 bet might induce the shove.

This hand, I'm not too happy about how I played it. Oppo's first hand at the table. One leak of mine that I seem to do every now and then is limp in on the SB with marginal/poor hands. This time it cost me. Any thoughts?? (if anybody even reads this)

ok ok the jj hand was me. the more i look at it the more i know i shouldnt have called the turn, it wasnt a snap call btw it was a last second call and i maybe levelled myself too much just because we have a little history from the last time we encountered each other at cash a few months ago.

i do reckon ive played it much worse than you waller and ive got extremely lucky in the end up, i know its no consolation to yourself, but i really do think i should be folding turn more often than i should be calling it

    Cheers for reply.

I posted the hand in the clinic as I felt I had played the hand badly and the general consensus was that I should prob have folded pre......both plays were questionable shall we say!

End of the day, best hand won, tis poker!

glad you have decided on what to play, and I think you have made the right decision by playing nl4 with some mtt's thrown in.

Ty dev.....yeah starting to find my feet playing 4nl.

Just squeezed another session in. Another winning session, got paid with all my big hands and variance is being kind for now. Should maybe play on while I'm on the up but I'm going to my sisters in Sheffield early doors and I'm quite tired. I'm not even drinking tonight.......what's that all about!?!

No interesting hands to post, just standard pots with AA,KK etc..

Just playing the £500 BH for now then an early night.

Played another 90 min session as usual......I find if i play anymore then mistakes start creeping in, plus I'm playing a couple of MTT's now.

Will talk about the 1st Mtt I played earlier. The £2.30 £250 BH......I was going along well, but yet to take any heads, then I get this hand! The oppo had been very active but this was the first time he had 3 bet shoved. The shove is huge, I mean HUGE and for this reason I was not expecting to see AA or KK and called. As you will see, he has AA but how was the call in the long term???

Ok, so that was the mtt. On the cash tables it was another winning session. Apart from one table where I was constantly getting outdrawn or beat. I will post a couple of the hands below to see if there was any way I could have got away from them. Both oppos were the usual "pretty much any two cards" type of player, the sort who you love to play but will occasionally catch you out with junk.

The fact that the oppo hits his flush and doesn't even raise me up for the last 26p sums him up. Standard play by me or should the flush completing and the wetness of the board slow me down??

I havent read through your thread - although I will - but I did read your first post. We have all been there and although its tough to take when your BR goes down sharply it can be a positive thing as long as your learn your lessons. Everyone has had ups and downs its how you deal with them that counts. The biggest lesson I have learnt is that EVERYONE has losing sessions but if you can control how much you lose (i.g. By not tilting, moving up levels to 'chase your money' and playing too big a buyin tournaments) then on your winning sessions you automatically feel alot better as your BR will show + movement and not going back to where you where a few nights ago leaving you feeling as if youve not got anywhere and therefore no 'buzz' which is basically what we all play for. The buzz from winning and making money.

Another session completed, just over an hour. I am just playing the £500 BH now as I'm keeping half an eye on the football.......it looks like England are getting outplayed, no surprise there though as it was always going to be tough in Brasil. I still think everybody who voted for the syndicate freeroll bet should have took a punt on England at 4/1, it's not our money afterall and as Greavsie used to say "it's a funny old game".

Anyway, as usual here is the biggest losing hand of the session........was I right to keep betting or should I be slowing down in spots like these?

I have actually just been knocked out of the £500 BH. Here is the exit hand, I'm fairly new to the table so no reads on oppo. His c-bet is big so I felt the only options I had were shove or fold. Did i play the hand ok??? Should I be 3 betting pre or is calling in position ok?

It's such a big flop bet, but are we playing AJ to flop TPTK with 25bigs behind to then just fold to a 'c' bet? As played I think most people go bust here. I know I do!

ty dev, always good to hear from you.

I have been reading your diary and I can relate with it, although you play more tables and I think 10nl is a little harder as there seems to be more regs. Fair play to you for having a go at 9 tabling too. I know you have played more with your DYM's but I assume they are FAR easier to mutli table as they are quite robotic??

Find the amount of tables that suits you best and crush mate, I can see that you are having more winning than losing sessions recently.

    GL mate
