In Response to Re: Can an old dog learn new tricks? :   L OL, the one in the foot is the metatarsal. Its ok, pain relief is keeping it under control. I have to see the hand specialist, must be a technical term but i am sure you will google it. on Thursday.    Got to say i was really impressed by the treatment i received in both Liverpool and Wigan hospitals. The NHS takes a lot of stick but credit where it is due. Was also  equally impressed by the police woman who spent 2.5 hours in casualty with me and then gave me a lift back to my car, then telephoned me today to enqire  how things went at Wigan hospital. Lovely girl.  I am waffling now, on the tables i managed a very impressive(for me) 4/4. Posted by pomfrittes[/ QUOTE] Pleased to hear some praise for the NHS Pommy. It must be awful for NHS staff to be so frequently mocked & complained about, when the truth is, almost all of them do a tremendous job. Many countries don't even have a NHS, & yet here in the UK, we barely hear a good word about it. They are a soft target for the knocking brigade, who are, sadly, prevalent these days.   Customer Care Staff, here at Sky Poker & in fact at ANY business all get verbally bashed up regularly, too, which is a dreadful indictment on society. They don't exactly get paid a fortune, & get angry folks shouting at them all day long. They are given generic answers to reply to most questions, so it's hardly the fault of the staff. They are not even permitted to defend themselves against the constant bellyaching, either. What a tough gig they have.   4/4, wowzer, well played! I did notice your game had changed considerably since we last shared Tables. I'll not give the game away, but you were doing one thing in particular VERY differently to almost everyone else, & that is why your results will improve considerably. Keep doing it!

Interesting, tell me more. Perhaps, if you get chance, you could PM me. Would be grateful.

    Hi Pommy,

Yup, am playing right now, the £4.50 & £11 PLO8 DYM's. Not much traffic yet, so plenty of seats available.

I'll drop you a PM in the morning.

It is DEFINITELY a heater, I assure you!

We all have heaters from time to time, & they are just lovely to experience. When we are having a bad run, I try & remember the heaters, as it makes the downswings more bearable.

Such a strange game, poker, & how it plays tricks with our minds. We get on a heater, & suddenly we start fantasising, "I could do this for a living, yes I could, yay" sort of thing. Then, suddenly, as if by magic, the bad beats return, we lose money for a few days, & realise it was all just a pipedream. Then, suddenly, the upswing returns, & off we go again with the fairies, dreaming of fame & fortune.....

    Too good Pad, too good.

You have certainly developed a "style" of play which is quite awkward to combat, with all those min-raises UTG!

I've no idea what your strategy is, but if it's working, keep doing it. The books, videos & coaches all say you must do this that & the other. Ignore that, much of it is nonsense, you have to develop a style that works for YOU, & we are all different, with different skills.

Keep it going, & good luck.

Nice to get to that 60% mark

    Well done sir.
  • edited December 2013

Incredible run-good, for the 2nd straight day.

On Tuesday, I won the last 7, & hoped to continue the streak yesterday, but I lost the very first one - followed by 4 straight wins, lol. Two losses followed, then I ended the session with EIGHT wins.

12 wins from 15 (80% win-rate) was the end result yesterday, repeating EXACTLY Tuesday's tally. I've never had an 80% success rate over a sample size of 10 or more, & now, like buses, two came along together. You could not make it up.

I busted Aces several times when I got myself pot-stuck, too. In PLO8, when the blinds are big relative to stack sizes, hands like A-K-2-3, A-K-Q-3, are EXACTLY the same as A-K or A-Q in NLH - you have to go all the way with them. No skill, just hope to hit or hold. Mine seemed to hit or hold everytime yesterday.

For balance, I DID lose with Aces several times, but I only went busto on one occasion, as they occurred early doors, when blinds were small, & we must be able to get off Aces when the betting pattern suggests we have run into something.

Comical defeat of the session was when I flopped the house with 8-3, on a flop of 3-3-8. How could Matey Boy have 8-8 in his hand there, lol? Amazingly, he had the other 3, as well! I was a bit cross with myself, as we should not go broke with an underhouse, but I had a bad emergency low draw, too, & just went with it. I think, in truth, given we both held all the outs between us, it was a semi-cooler, but all things considered, I can't complain. It just annoyed me a bit that it was an idiotic way to lose, going busto with underhouses should never happen, it is a novice error.

Incidentally, I had raised pre, as my hand was A-A-3-8, & Matey Boy had called with 3-8-8-9, pretty hard to put him on that sort of range when he called a raise from me. Excuses excuses.....

Thanks Mick, I plan to enjoy that 60% figure, as it can't possibly last!

It will last until tomorrow though, as I'm working tonight, doing the Show, & I've got some UKOPS filming to do this afternoon, & a UKPC Meeting, so no play for me today, I gotta go do some work.....it's all wrong, having to work, you know.

In further good news, I got past the 3,000 Reward Point threshold, so my £30 of Reward Payment magically became £45, just like that! Thats like winning over 3 x £5.50 DYM's. For free. LIKE.

I'm hopeful I can get that number up to at least £50 by the month-end, so that will give January a nice start.

I'll probably stop doing the daily reports at the end of December, & just produce the numbers with no wordy stuff, as they are starting to look a bit chirpy, which is the last thing I want. Struggles against adversity, when we are up against it, reads better, though if the heater ends, & I start losing chunks every day, thats not so bad.

I'm still mulling over whether to transfer across to PLO DYM's in January. Trouble is, I enjoy PLO8 so much, & I play that better than PLO.

Decisions decisions. The challenge of revving up PLO liquidity in the DYM's is really appealing. I am certain I could do it, but equally certain I'd struggle to make money. And winning at poker is nice, especially if you have forgotten that feeling.....;)

OK, all done, I better go & prepare for tonight, working with Miss Fowler.

For those that have never met Anna, I have to tell you, she is THE sweetest person you could ever wish to meet, what you see is what you get, a really lovely, & sincere, person. If she were a sweet, she'd be a Mars Bar, a perfect delight. I see it as Sky Poker's way of compensating me for working with Orford. He's more of a bitter-lemon.

Please keep the daily reports comming, dont post much but its always the first thread I look for when I log on
  • edited December 2013
keep the update coming TK, as long as you still enjoy writing them.

I enjoy reading them and I'm sure lots of others do too

IMO there is no problem with posting about doing well, as long as your also posting when things are going badly, to give a balanced story. you also always seem to remember some interesting hands bring other stories from the table, and give advice. I think if you just do the numbers, you will lose some interest from poeple, and as a result, you probably wont have as many new players coming to play PLO8 vs you..

I wish sky made available the number of views, because I think it would provide encouragment for diary writers to keep going.

Just caught up on the last few updates and they are some very impressive numbers Tikay, well played. Nice spin up from your original £200... keep going like this and maybe you could use it to play the UKPC main :) ... unless you have Sky duties (which I imagine is highly likely)

SPT was incredible. The weather was horrific. The Friday night was about the worst weather I'd ever driven in.
Didn't seem to affect the ladies attire too much.
    Aahhh memories.

Tikays eyes were popping out of his head!!!!!!!! 7, by the way, to save you counting ;)

    Sorry for derail :)

Thanks Paul, yes, going along nicely now, though I suspect I'm on the crest of a wave, & what goes up generally goes down eventually. We'll see. I'm enjoying it so very much though, thats the key thing.

Play the UKPC? Lol, I wish.Work has to come first, so no chance of that, but as long as it is a success, I'll be chuffed to bits, its pretty much my main priority at ther moment, helping to make it a great event. Got a cracking "name" signed up today, top top guy, though not associated with poker. Seen regularly on Sky Sports, every week, though.

In terms of me playing stuff, my current fixation is to get to Vegas for the entire period of the WSOP, & play non-stop PLO8 Tourneys around town, including a few PLO8 WSOP Events. We shall see. If not, I'll go up to the Scottish Higlands for a few weeks around WSOP time, where there is no internet, & cut myself off from reading WSOP & Vegas stories, & I'll enjoy that just as much I guess.
