That's because you own me. ;)

Which reminds me. Last night, as per most nights, I bet 20 different people made comments like "you still awake tikay, not played a hand in 20 minutes?".

For the record, I play less hands than almost any player here, it's my deliberate style. All this limping every hand lark is a losers game.

    But....

If you watch, you'll note that I change gears completely once we get 4 handed, & become THE most active & aggro player at the table by far. There's a reason for that. ;)

Sorry I could not chat much last night, & failed to reply to your comments. With 6 or 8 Tables on the go, & trying to concentrate, I just struggle a bit with replying to everyone, but no offence is intended.

Here's a happy rotty to make up for it.

    Ha!

Quite happy to sit nice & quietly, foldy foldy foldy, whilst many others limp into every pot. Economy of effort, that.

my god that dogs beautiful. me playing too many hands is also a tactic of mine and i think a rather shrewd one. its to fool other players into believing im rubbish. they have no clue that im actually brilliant. so there.

You keep mentioning low self-confidence at the moment Tikay, chin up! You are up in the DYMs,  STILL on the telly, fresh from award season glory and organising one of the biggest tournaments in the UK.

Good session, eventually, though it began as bad as bad can be, when I ran really bad.

Lost 6 of the first 9, despite, I thought, playing well. In one beaut, we got it all-in on the flop when I flopped a set of Jacks, & the other poor chap was in a world of pain with a set of 7's. Cue quad sevens, ha! The thing to remember though is that we played the hand correctly, & if we keep doing that, we'll be fine.

"beats" are like buses, they seem to come in clusters, & we notice them. But we outdraw people in clusters too, but put that down to good play.

Anyway, I eventually found my rhythm & pace, & the 15 game sectors went like this.....

    First 15 games - W7, L8

    2nd 15 games - W11, L4

    3rd 15 games - W10 L5

Pretty pleased with that really, & it gets the Games Won % back up to 57%.

Traffic was very light mid-evening (barbecue night, I guess), but then livened up late on, so it was a late night finish. Not one £11er ran until the very last game, so I loaded up a couple of £3's & £5's to help my concentration & we won the £11er with some ease.

The £11er had a very odd dynamic, as one unlucky player was "AWAY" throughout, which makes things both easier, but more awkward. The position you have relative to the AWAY player is key, of course, & the player to his immediate right is in a good spot. I was to his LEFT, so it cramped me rather badly, but we ran good & got there eventually.

There were a lot of players who had consumed rather too much alcohol, so it was kinda awkward to chat, as it was all nonsense stuff, & whilst we want drunk players in the game, they play so unpredictably. To find yourself heads up & all-in pre-flop versus 10-7-6-4 is one of those double take moments, "did he REALLY just do that?" sorta thing. Chop-chop, lol.

In a £5 game, 4 of us left, & a chap with just 2 bigs made his mandatory shove, & so two of us flatted behind. The chippie then re-shoved! Groan, fold fold. Shortie more than trebled up, & it was back to square one.

In another game, I was surviving on fumes with 4 Bigs (4 handed) & the two Billy Big Stacks proceeded to get it all-in v each other, & I sort of won by default. Why DO people do that? It's beyond words really, but I'm not complaining. Oh no Sir.

Poor Vespa continued his miserable run, don't recall ever seeing a player run so bad for so long. Take a little break Mick, & come back refreshed. Your game is just fine, but Miss Variance has taken a temporary dislike. She's fickle though, she'll be all cooey-wooey next week.

I plan another big session tonight, traffic permitting. Am really keen to reach 3,000 Reward Points, & I still need 438 over my remaining 4 sessions. It's do-able, but only just, & I'll need plenty of traffic to do it, &, hopefully, a few £11ers to run. In my last 90 games, just ONE £11er has run.  Traffic levels are remarkably high, all things considered, time of year, weather, so it'll be grand in the winter, but there are just not enough of the bigger games running right now.

Anyway, an enjoyable & satisfying evening. It feels really good to be behind early & then turn it round.

Today on TV its the F1 GP, racing from Ascot, Darts, Golf, then poker. Ooohhh.

Enjoy your Sunday, whatever plans you have.

    Tikay,
In response to your comment about 2 big stacks going to war.
I believe I was one of those big stacks and having been pushed around in a previous encounter it was time to make a stand. In the future maybe he/she wont try to bully me again. It is all about the long term strategy.

    Morning Very Old Bloke.

No, you were not on that table.

Great fun last night, eh? Especially when you sealed the deal in that £11 thing with all those Queens!

I won another £11er last night after going down to 550 chips in ther firdt orbit when Mr Station did a get. I clung & clung, & eventually won it. Most satisfying win of the evening.

    TERRIBLE news.

For those not aware, that shop was unique in Great Britain, if not the world, as far as I am aware.

A dual purpose shop - hairdressers and specialist Railway Books. Incred! A marriage made in heaven, imo, & I dont understand why all mens hairdressing salons don't do the same.

Imagine the scene, when you walk into the hairdressers without an appointment.

"I'm afraid there is a 2 hour wait Sir".

"No problem squire, the longer the better, I can sit and look at Railway Books".

And when it's your turn, you'd say, "Anyone in a hurry? After YOU sir".

Another monster session last night, 46 games, but despite winning the Game Count 26-20, I managed a £15 loss, thanks, in some ways, to a disastrous misclick in an £11 game.

Had 8 Tables up, all binging & bonging, when my mouse battery died, & then the 'phone went, & I got myself all in a bit of a tizz. I just completely lost my way, & my focus, & was all over the shop.

It was going so well until then, too.

Started bad, as per these days, first 15 were W7, L8.

    Next 15, BOOMIO, W12, L3.

And then the wheels departed in some style, & the last 16 went all Petey Tongy, W7, L9.

Rather took the gloss off an otherwise good evening, & weekend.

I've had a 3 day splurge to try & get to 3,000 Reward Points, & with just 240 more needed, & 3 sessions left, I should be OK now.

In total, on Fri/Sat/Sun, I played a whopping (for me) 136 games, over which I won a rather puny £46, & 62% of the games. Not exactly gonna set the world on fire, or trouble Chris Moorman & co, but I'm very pleased with that, my ambitions are modest, I just want to play a game I love, with great people, & try not to lose any money along the way.

    All boxes ticked.

    See you tonight.

Still playing the odd PLO8 DYM........have even managed to win one! haha

Have to say though, the table chat in general is so much more civilised than you often get playing holdem. I have even had players giving me advice in game when I have asked, plus I'm yet to see a single bad beat moan.

I urge anyone who is on a bad run or bored of holdem to have a go at these. I'm still losing more than I win (for now) but losing has never been so much fun!

Great stuff Waller, & yes, I'm convinced you are correct.

    Ploppers have more fun.

Have played many hundreds of PLO8 DYM's in July, & only seen 2 instances of chat box chunter, in both cases from types who just can't accept defeat with dignity or grace. They are chirpy winners too, as it happens.

    Best fun ever.

Am all behind with my Daily Updates, so I'll try & get up to date now.

Then, Dohhhhhh style, but not Dohhhhh style, I'll do a little review of the Month.

As I wont be able to play as much in August due to Diary congestion, work etc, I'll not be setting myself any targets in August. I may also stick my July Reward Points money into July, too, which is a change in my normal reporting procedure. It makes litttle difference overall - well none actually - but it ought to be consistent really. Fail.

Not sure the glitterati will be there, but I imagine the usual PLO faces will all be present & correct.

The Viv Omaha regulars are a tough bunch to beat.

As a curiosity, in my Live poker "career", I think I've cashed in over 60 Festival Events, in 8 different countries. But I've never ever cashed, not even once, @ The Vic, or not that I can recall.

Not played there that much, & almost never for 10 years, as I had a bit of a fallout over their then standards of customer service, but they are much improved - very good in fact - now.

I think I recall a story you told.
Is that the place where they told that you had got your name wrong?

"Your name isn't Tony Kendall, it's Anthony Kendall"

Pretty much, yes, though the gist of the story was the way we are greeted, welcomed, or not, by Receptionists or "Front of House" staff.

That first impression is so important.

Being grilled so sternly by this unsmiling Receptionist was not exactly customer-friendly. Never smiled once, never made eye-contact, never looked up from tip-tip-tapping her keyboard.

After eventually gaining admittance, I wished her a good day. "Be a lot better when I get out of this damn place" she grunted, still without looking up.

It used to be the policy @ The Vic - & I thought it was no bad thing actually - that you could not wear trainers or plimsolls, only "proper shoes". Jen Mason, in those days, had this most horrendous pair of a sort of a cross between Ugg boots & carpet slippers. She was refused admission, so she removed them & was allowed to gain entrance barefoot.

A chap you may remember from the days back in Gala Notts was Ian "Belly" Oldershaw. "Belly" because he was, well, quite big.

He turned up at The Vic one night in a smart, clean, T-Shirt.

"Collared shirts only, sorry", & so he was turned away. In those days, unless you were seated before the first hand was dealt, that was it, you were not allowed to play.

So Belly dashed up to Woolworths on Edgware Road to get a proper shirt.

But...Woolworths never sold clothing as such - but they did sell children's school clothes.

He returned to The Vic 10 minutes later wearing a collared short designed to fit a 10 year old. The buttons never even reached the buttonholes, there was a gaping 9" gap between them, exposing his expansive belly. His arms were spread out wide as the sleeves were so tight. They let him in, of course.

A year or so later, Belly, Thewy & me went on to play 2003 MasterClassics in Amsterdam.

Him, Thewy & me were travelling & rooming together, we always did. We had all played the MasterClassics Festival, but I had to return home for work reasons, & so left Thewy & Belly out there to play the Main Event.

Belly was skinto, & so offered Thewy & I first option to buy some of his action. I emptied my pockets & said "you can have whatever I have left, just leave me my taxi fare to the Airport". Thewy did the same. I ended up with 19% of Belly's action, Thewy had 15% I think. We always swapped 10% anyway, it was a standing order.

A few days later, I'd forgotten all about it, I'm busy working, & I get a text from Thewy.

"Belly got 2nd in the MasterClassics Main Event for €120,000".

It was the biggest win I'd ever had at the time. God bless Belly.

Belly turned Pro shortly after that, but it never turned out well, so he went back to work, for Derbyshire County Council as I recall. Saw him at DTD a few years back.

Think he got banned by DTD actually, in odd circumstances.

We were on the same table when it kicked off. Belly was a proper decent bloke, polite & friendly, but he did not tolerate fools gladly. He was sat next to a drunk bloke who was completely bladdered & most onboxious, as drunks often are.
Drunk bloke kept nudging Belly, sort of touching his arm & messing about.

Belly says "do me a favour mate, keep your hands off me, I don't like folks touching me."

Geezer carries on, putting his arm round Belly & messing about, slobbering all over the place.

Belly is getting a bit cross now.

"Mate, seriously, I DON'T LIKE YOU KEEP TOUCHING ME, do me a favour, pack it up or I'll punch you in the smacker. And I'm, serious".

Geezer continues, Belly stands up, picks the fella up & decks him. Belly gets banned. Honest, I've seen more trouble in cardrooms caused by drunks than enough. Belly should not have hit him, of course.

As a matter of fact, it was that big Amsterdam bink which sort of led to my retirement from proper work. Thewy was alrady a Pro, & Belly had now turned Pro. Thewy kept nagging me, "go on Tony, you are 55, if you don't do it now you never will". And after some dithering, I did exactly that.

    Sorry, I'm in ramble mode.
