Thanks for the advice on my thread mate, thanks alot and much appreciated, cheers for taking the time...

    now on yours.....

hand one as on the clinic earlier im prob folding unless i feel im going too house, but wouldve been loving to see those cards, ul on river, guessing you might have notes amd made a great call. Me 2 id say wp.

    Hand 2

Dont think youve done nothing wrong as there's no raise id put him open ended, and as you say too short stacked at the end not to call.

    Ul mate.

Thanks Chris - that's the fun part of poker that we see the two hands right/wrong for similar but reversed reasons :)

Hand 1 I figure the guy would let me carry on barrelling if he had made the flush, which is why I figured it much more likely he had the draw and/or a smaller set or two pair.... ie he'd have played it similar to oppo by the made hand in number 2.

All goes to show how much easier things are if I was the one in position with these sort of hands I guess?

In retropect, I'm really amazed that there are still people in low stakes games limping with AK!!

Got caught out with that a few times last night as well, value-betting AQ/AJ like a boss on a dry A-high flop against limpers and being utterly bemused when AK/AQ beat me at showdown lol... games are good on Sky!!!

Lol what is it with you and the fat ladies. (88)

Ul,  i think  may have got to the turn on this hand, but with a little worry,  i dont think im shoving the £10 bet after hes seen us all the way, id either fold or call here and see the river,

think if it was kk or qq you might be re raised pre, so im prob putting him on the set her or even A3. And that he raises you i dont think he's  worried about over pairs, so id say gets rid of jj and less which leaves us beat.

This is how id look at it now though,  and im most certainly probally wrong lol.

the reason why i say that is we can see the whole hand,
Where if it was me id snap all in and shout hes got kk lol and be gutted!!

Yeah that sort of spot catches me out too often.  See too many people that get frisky on a low flop after playing 88-QQ and figure that all but one of those are going to pay me off... obviously that's not the note I've added to this oppo!!

Luckbox time was mostly back last night, pushing me up to nearly +£1k overall in 2015 which is nucking futs. Shame that is a level which will never last :)

661pts after 5 days is my fastest start to a month... but amazes me further as how people playing around the 10-30NL games can rack up 10k+ points months.  I'd struggle to have found much more time to play this week to earn more!

Today is 2 weeks no booze, just over 3 to go. That should mean good point scoring all weekend, but I still can't say no to the pub. Watching rugby on a Friday night with only soft drinks will be a new experience... I hope there are lots of drunks online by the time I get home.....

Holiday planning time is also go. Best mate and brother-in-law have somehow scored pass-outs to holiday away from other halves... although that pass-out was almost immediately revoked when my initial response was to shout out 'VEGAS!'... guess that trip remains on ice until I reach my 40th...

    Today's ballsed up hand.

I think this may have been induced by a nosebleed from adding a table one level above my normal top limit.

Probably should have flatted the flop bet?

Maybe should have checked behind on the turn?

    Bar steward H :(

Poker things I learned this weekend.

    1) Taking a shot at NL50 isn't that challenging until TommyD takes the spare seat to your left and 3bets every open. I gave it about two orbits before I admitted defeat.

    2) Taking another couple of shots at NL50 and promptly running KK into AA within the first couple of orbits at the table both times quickly diminishes the desire to continue trying to play at that level. I still can't break the mental barrier of losing bigger sums at poker. Dunno what is required to get over that?

    3) Playing maybe 50% of the poker a proper player would undertake in a weekend compresses an awful lot of bad beats into a short window. I'm pretty 'whatever' to these as it normally means I'm making good decisions, but the mental strength that full time grinders have to take the beatings every single day is immense. I think even I'd start to get worn down if that was my standard day!

    4) Priority must be nearly impossible for part-timers that can't play 6xNL50 (maybe NL30+) tables or more.  I've made it past 2,100pts after the weekend but figure time is against me unless I really boss it over the remaining double points weekends.

    5) I can't beat T5o if all in pre-flop at cash. 3 times it did for me... just so anyone reading this knows to play it like the nuts if in a hand vs me :)

Plus side is that playing that much over a weekend totally stops me spunking my cash away at casino games, so that fact makes it way more profitable, even if I don't continue to run like Usain Bolt at a poker table :)

Other good times... Forest found another team that are worse than them. The underwhelming Dougie has doubled his total Championship wins this season at his first attempt. Well done him.

Lol, 50nl a bit away yet for me!!! If i ever get there. 2100 pts is nit bad though!

And 10 5o is defo going in the note section lol.

1/ Yeah, there are tougher opponents but with experiance its a level I htink you can beat. Just take a while.
2/ Losing the bigger BI is a tough aspect. But I remember the jump from 4nl to 10nl and losing £10. But after playing lots and lots its a bit 'ah, well' now! Same will happen at these bigger stakes. Just takes a while. Try 6 tabling 20nl and get used to those first then move up.

Must dash, Walking Dead now!! Finsih this later.

Yeah I think it's more about what the money can buy... there are loads of ways I very regularly waste £4 (a pint) and £10 (a whisky chaser at the end of a session and kebab on the way home) and even £20 (my round), but £50 and upwards gets into territory where a losing session is a more expensive day that I don't have with the same frequency in real life*... it just feels that more tangible (irrespective of the fact that my poker balance on here is totally disconnected from my life account).

    * Obviously the non-poker gambling addiction mean this isn't entirely true... but I very much have a 'I hate myself and I want to die' response to the days I stagger out of a gambler anything up to £500 in the hole... Maybe that further skews my mentality to bigger losses at poker!

That 'how to' guide by TeddyBloat has seemingly proved quite useful reading in picking up 1st /> 2nd in the MTT I've been lucky enough to run deep in since I read. May have to start applying it vs the increasing number of people that seem to sit the NL10 HU cash tables. How bad can it go?

Fun table chat last night as well, listening to Bournemouth and Middlesboro fans talk about how they are going to finish 1-2 in the Championship this season. I wished them well in that, would be a good result :)

Points wise my game has now been upped. Just need to hold back some luck for a deep run in the £30k freeroll...

I have played like an utter donut at the cash tables in the last few days... for now I'm blaming whatever sort of weird man flu type thing I've been popping pills for since Tuesday.

Aside from donating my money 1 buy-in at a time to Larson, or paying off yet another river shove when someone had obviously binked their dream card, I figured I'd accompany updates on Blackpool v Forest (btw, wtf??) by dipping my toes in the Rainman 2.20 for the first time...
  • edited February 2015

So much for beasting the double points weekend.  Couldn't seem to log on and not blitz through 4-5 buy-ins within an hour or so, before admitting defeat and finding other ways to pass the time. Nevermind, always next weekend.

A bit is variance catching up with me for sure, but definitely also a time for wondering whether I've managed to just totally forget how to play the game / reached a stage where all the regs have played me enough to pwn me.*

It's very notable that certain players at NL10/NL20 only ever seem to sit one or two spots to my left these days for starters.

Watched a few videos and got a few lined up for the start of this week... hopefully they can remind me how to play this game :)

    * may also be impacted by reaching three weeks booze free.

I was once told that drinking at the right level can make people more intelligent... because alcohol kills brain cells... but the 'survival of the fittest' theory means that it will kill the weakest brain cells... which will mean the best brain cells will have more room to work / less clutter from weak brain cells... ergo drinking lets your brain perform at a higher level than a tee-totaller.

If I have a losing February but return to profit in March, I'm taking that as conclusive proof that the above logic has been proved beyond doubt!

The hand that got me a good ten minutes of abuse for being a dirty river rat, disgrace to poker, absolute joke and brief threats of an angry scotsman traveling down to Swindon to '**** me over'... that extra £2.20 must have been important to him :)

I thought I played this pretty well.... I'm obviously done with the hand on any other river (probably flat calling if an ace comes)

Anyway. Totally camped in NL10 again currently.

My long overdue bad run of cards seems to be in full flow still... obviously there are faults in my play (see QQ hand above - where I actually got lucky lol), but going through hand-history it just seems to be that all the big hands are going against me... in particular have never flopped so many 2nd / bottom sets as I have in the last week... and always against the table maniac... at least if it was versus the regs there would be a fighting chance in finding a fold... resulting in pretty much doing my stack every time.

All part of the fun though... I know we aren't able to graph our results on Sky, but if we could then I'm sure I must still be running better than EV since this thread started!!

Hopefully a handful of winning days are just around the corner and can provide a platform to begin the next attempt to ascend to NL50...

    Hi

That A3 hand, he has no comeback what so ever as he let you get there. I thought by calling you a 'river rat' you had called a bet you shouldnt have but you made all the running!

A five way allin! Was this a BH or something? :) At least you come out in profit.

Last hand, should you be folding? Im afraid I cant see how you can, I can list a number of hands you beat. The villian played it horribly as that is about the only hand you are ever calling with!

Hope our luck improves! Whats your BR btw? If I may ask? Oh, and your PP tally?

Im off to lick my wounds, not kick my cats as you suggested!

lol it's lucky I don't have pets or the RSPCA would have me banged up by now due to the impact of bad beats :)

After the Christmas withdrawals I'd gotten back up to like £3250 or so, but barely scraping over the £3k mark after the last couple of weeks. I'd raced from £2k to that point in 2015 though, which puts into context how much positive variance I must have been experiencing up until the last fortnight!!

Points are just about to reach 3.6k for the month (volume right down after that first good week of Feb... poor show, I know)

Was convinced I'd got at least a break-even session earlier, but no another loss + another drop just now.

Think it may be NL4 for the weekend just in a vain attempt to remember what it's like to have a winning day!

Great BR and you have the same nittyness as me as thats far more than neccasary to move up. I dont know why you dont play 20nl. There are so many weak players, Ive done ok there just at the moment the fish are hitting but I know it will change. Im playing more there but until I get a little bit more up and get a bit more positive variance I will stay at 10nl with a few 20nls.

Im surprised your points are far in advance of mine, you played a lot last night so im sure you made a few? The race to 5000 is on, sir! I'm hoping to get between 5500-6000 depending on how I run and feel. Im sure to never see that PP tally again. I'm already far in advance of my previous best of just over 3000, and they had double points weeks too!

    Good luck.

Well fair to say that the dealer threw this card back in my direction this weekend

So to triple barrel after watching a few coaching vids...

Had a bash at NL4 Saturday morning just to try and book a win, which came pretty easily with +3 BI thanks to some pretty questionable play vs me... definitely helps improve the confidence to see that there is some much worse play than me on the site!

So second barrel was time to step back NL10 during the afternoon football... ran as well as Dougie and added +4 BI there as well as enjoying us smashing Bolton to hopefully put an end to any relegation fears. Plus having gotten so much grief from the Bolton fan I sit next to at work when we hired Freedman, I have a quite enjoyable Monday morning to look forward to now :)

Then with the tail up it seemed rude not to rock back to NL20 alongside a few BH games and added another +4 BI there for good measure (albeit ran abysmal in the 11pm £11bh that Larson talked me into giving a bash lol). Even picked up enough good spots to cover up my continued poor form at winning all in pre at cash (vwp those people that get it in with A2o and auto stand, vwp :) )

4,240pts before this evening... the 5k mark it starting to come in view over the horizon.

Plus Octopussy is on for background noise on ITV.  Magic.

For some reason everyone seems to have taken to limping monsters pre at lower levels... a trick that works a beaut against fish like me :)

I do play NL20 and the occasional foray further up the limits, but not sure I have the ability to win consistently there (yet). Think there are still a few too many obvious flaws in my post-flop play that the regs at that level are much better at taking advantage of than those at NL10 or lower... not that I necessarily know which those are / have worked out how best to fix them.

The video of me on PokerVIP is mostly NL20 and NL30... thankfully just about held my own there and didn't make too many stupid mistakes :)

That, plus the nl40/nl50 games still hurt my head way more when I lose a stack via an inevitable cooler... I can write off a tenner without a thought... beyond that I still sit put too much value on the cash... I genuinely admire, but don't know how the NL400 or higher players can be so desensitized to bad (results wise) sessions... it's a real talent!!

Tech tilt was back in force last night.

Weirdly I'd lose connection at one table, even though the other 3-4 continued to play without issue.

Only happened four times and for two of those I wasn't in a hand or had utter junk so no problem there.

But invariably the other two times I had aces.

First time I raised button and got 3-bet (mini fist pump) only to be unable to call/raise.  Sigh.

Second time the table continued up to the turn, just long enough for the oppo to shove all in.

    "Ah focksocks."

    "I hate you Sky."

"Oh the connection is back with a tiny bit of timebar left, quick, quick, bash the call button."

    Fist pump "YES!"

    "NO!" Head in hands

"Ah focksocks why did the connection have to come back."

If you're going to get beat, get beat in style. My eyes were alight with aspirations of winning DTD1 at the point all the chips went in and I'd have taken the chip lead.  Probably best I didn't though, Stewie7 was a much more worthy Outlaw winner!!

I also totally deserved this after doubling up a few orbits earlier from the same oppo, with A3 vs KK that flopped 33x (3s are always lucky :) )

I think I mostly failed with betting with stack sizes / bet sizing last night and kept having to call off spots that I knew I was behind in, but had left oppo with so little relative to pot that I had to call... just couldn't find any binkability from that point.

Mind you, having had to climb in to the house through a window and subsequently kick my front door in to get home after footy, I probably didn't have much of a head on for cards.

For the modern man that doesn't have to rely on making fire, hunting for food etc, kicking doors open is an expensive but enjoyable pastime. Need some rungood this weekend to cover the damage bill now :)
