£10 extra for the pot Graham as I managed to win the £55 speed this evening. Quite chuffed with that as been running bad recently (or maybe just playing bad!).

Well I have just finished watching the Ryder Cup, and despite the Europeans losing, it was quite a match and atmosphere.
So, it gave me an idea. Why not have a Poker Tournament in the format of the Ryder Cup?
How will it work? Well I'm just thinking about that.
But this is my thoughts so far:
Why not make it a "North" v "South". We'd need to find a captain for each team.
So how would the format work?
There are 12 players on each team. In golf, they have foursomes (alternate shot), fourballs and singles.
I think the equivalent of foursomes in poker could be:
A team of two that each play ONE of the opponents team of two heads up for 5 games. The winning combined score over the 10 games gets 1 point for the winning team or 1/2 a point each if 5 all.
I think the equivalent of fourballs in poker could be:
A team of two that each play BOTH of the opponents team of two heads up for 3 games. The score over the 12 games gets 1 point for the winning team or 1/2 a point each if 6 all.
I would recommend that all 12 players are involved in both formats, so 6 pairings for "foursomes" and 6 pairings for "fourballs"
This would then be followed by 12 singles matches, totalling 24 points.
The captains will follow the same process as the captains do in the Ryder Cup regarding, "order" and team selection.
OK, that's about as far as I have thought.
I'm also after a slight push to try and beat last years total raised of £4,188, so if I could possibly ask people to extend their generosity one last time, with a £20 entry fee for each competitor. The captains will each choose a charity prior to commencement of the competition. The winning team's charity will receive 75% of the prize pool and the runner up's 25%. So £360 for the winning captain's charity, and £120 for the runner ups. (assuming everyone honours their pledge)
If you are interested in representing the North or South, and are happy to pledge £20, please sign up here.
Who knows, perhaps we could get Ian Simpson to captain the North and Neil Channing or TK, the South.
If you want to be involved, sign up here, first come, first served.
May I suggest, that Coventry and Northwards represents "The North" and anywhere south of Coventry, "The South".
If you are from Ireland, then Northern Ireland will join Northern England, Southern Ireland, Southern England. Which leaves me with a dilemma of what to do with the Welsh! :=)
I think for the Welsh, draw a horizontal line through Coventry, and determine if you are North or South of it. So for those familiar with Welsh geography, Pont-rhyd-y-groes, would probably represent the North/South divide
I'll start the ball rolling and represent "The South" (HUNTINGDON)
The first 12 players for each location will determine the team.
Just a thought, add your name and location here if interested. and we'll see if this idea has any legs.

Team North filling up nicely. Soft South running scared by looks of it... Posted by mattprawn
Being a born and bred southerner with both parents from London's East End, I feel I do have to defend the "softness" of the South.
Of course there are those who live in the leafy suburbs, that may not be quite so battle hardened. :=)
Come on Southerners, we're not going to let this shoddy lot from the North run riot of us are we?
Know what I mean 'Arry. Where are you diamond cockney geezers? We'll be in a right two and eight wif out you, so get off that dog and bone and post on this Fred.
LET THE NORTH TALK THE TALK AND WE'LL WALK THE WALK!
Signing in for the Northerners with my flat cap on and pint of proper ale. *waves* at the southern shandy drinkers. Great idea. Just hope the games can all be arranged/played over a shortish time frame though. Posted by MAXALLY
Yes, shouldn't take long, I have a "cunning" plan! :=)
Can I go on the reserve list for the South please? I'm happier for the competitors to run in this instead of me but if short of players I'll give it a go.

If there's space then I'll happily join in - but don't want to take anyone elses seat
I've just been working on the scoring spreadsheet. It will look something like this for "FOURSOMES" and something similar for "FOURBALLS" and "SINGLES:
I think this year, with it being "a new idea", I will generate the pairings and fixtures randomly. Whilst it would be great fun to have the captains pick the pairings, I fear it would significantly delay the whole process. Also, if a player is unavailable for some reason, then the relevant team can pick a reserve to play instead. Hopefully this will reduce the chance of a bottle neck.
The foursomes matches can be played in any order. In an ideal world the two games in each match would be played concurrently, but we may have to compromise here as getting four players all to agree a time and date may be a bit tricky.
We are a bit short of players coming forward for this, which is understandable as we have already had so much support for the previous initiatives.
So perhaps, we can do this as a "trial" this year with just 6 players in each team.
I am also aware that all those that have volunteered so far, have already contributed a lot to the charities, so I propose we do it just for fun this year, with no entry fee.
So this means we need one more "volunteer" from the North and two more from the South.

Well we are 3/4's of the way through the year and it's all to play for in both the TLB and Tournament Wins comp.
See nine monthly standings below:
Sounds like fun Graham. Count me in for the Northern team, if selected.
Cheers
