In Response to Re: Women can't play poker. : Why would the Girls say they chose to wear them, they were not forced to ........ would you do something you did not wish to do ......... Posted by goldon
I think you'll find it's called working for a living.
Its just disrespectful, having a joke with your mates is fine, even if you genuinely believe the stuff you are saying (which i hope you dont) then i guess there isnt too much wrong with that, but to come on a public forum an be utterly sexist just is not right, if id never have played on sky before and then read this thread then i certainly wouldnt want to play on here, im sure if it was racist or homophobic you would have been long banned.
As you are a self confessed "perv" then there are plenty of places you can go to satisfy your needs that arent poker venues. personally i think poker venues should be about the poker, and all thats related to poker (gambling, social interaction, drinking etc)
In Response to Re: Women can't play poker. : Please dpn't make a comment that suggests I was agreeing with anything you have said in this thread. You couldn't be further from the truth. Posted by Enut

You've done more trolling on this thread, and the weird rail thread, than anyone else.
Wonder how many players would have the courage of their convictions and boycott any future SPT at DTD because of the ladies attire? I'm guessing not many if any at all. PS For those lucky chaps heading off to Vegas, you may want to steer clear of Hooters. Posted by VespaPX
I think you, an a few others have missed the point, Hooters is fine its targetting a male audience to go there to specically drink poor quality beer and eat poor quality food and to be waited on by attractive women, thats the whole idea of the place, similar to strip clubs where you go there specifically to spend a load of money for some cheap thrills. But "the uk's best cardroom" shouldnt be aimed specially towards males of a certain age, because the whole beauty of poker is that it brings people of all races, sexes, ages, backgrounds together to play a fun game and hopfully win money.
I doubt anyone would ever boycott it, thats pretty ridiculous, I go to quite a few West Ham matches, i dislike hooliganism but id certainly never consider boycotting it because a small minority share a different view to me.
No one looks back to 50 years ago and thinks "i wish we still had all that racism and homophobia", but at the time it was common place and something that was easy to accept. If people never spoke out about that then we'd still be living in that kind of country today, looking back we can all see how ludicrous it was, unfortunately sexism is a bit more behind the times but surely its good to speak about, otherwise nothing will change for the better.

But it is because they are the source of income and the only way to change it is to take action if it is to become a more inclusive. inviting place for all.
PS The Hooters reference was meant to be a little tongue in cheek.
Personally, I think the biggest problem with women in Poker starts at the very bottom.
IMO the most accessible live Poker is pub games - Can you even get a more male-dominated environment? I'm gonna put my neck on the line and suggest that most women don't want to be stuck at a table for the 2-4 hour duration of a pub tournament, maybe longer, being hit on by married middle aged men who are getting progressively more drunk and creepy as the tournament progresses, whilst being the only female in the pub.
Let's have the most accessible live Poker take place in a less misogynystic environment, please. Local casinos while far from perfect, are at least somewhat more inviting to women than some out of the way space or room in a pub. At least if some guy is a jerk in a casino, the woman (or anyone) can call the floor over and have them dealt with.
People like to take an interest in what people close to them are doing, and somewhere around ~95% of live Poker players are male, so encourage women to try Poker when their husband/boyfriend plays, at a price where if they come to the casino and suck because they're a newbie, then whatever, it's a tenner and it's still good fun. It's not for lack of enjoying the game, because if you play Poker on a play money Facebook app like Zynga, far more than 5% are women.
I really hope that a casino somewhere *cough* DTD PLEASE *cough* runs a "Enter your partner for free/half price/rake free" type promo on a cheap weeknight MTT, to encourage a predominantly male player base to get their partners involved in Poker, in a much less intimidating environment at little or no expense, and almost certainly with more women per table to make women feel more comfortable. If successful in bringing female players into live Poker, the casino would soon make that money back in future reg fees, food/drink sales, and other casino games where the house has an edge - Plus women will then discuss positive experiences of Poker with female friends, and maybe Bingo night becomes Poker night, who knows?
That makes far more sense to me than all these womens' tournaments, which I despise. The end goal shouldn't be to play Poker just against other women, it should be to play Poker in a field of men and women, and women's tournaments don't do anything to encourage women play in a regular MTT. If anything, the more common they become, the more they'll do to discourage women from playing unisex tournaments, because women simply won't have to. They're like trying to cure a fear of spiders by getting someone to catch spiders in your house and put them outside - It doesn't fix the underlying problem of being afraid of spiders, it just brushes the problem under the carpet. In a game where men and women should be 'equal', segregation is never the answer.

I agree they should all be inspected before their allowed to play. ! "I volunteer"
^^ Really not the most considered of responses goldon.
I get that it is tongue in cheek (definitely no pun intended)... however EvilPingu has written a very well thought out post which you have replied to by highlighting 1 word 'bottom'. Seems incredibly immature and a bit tastless.
@EvilPingu... I think the analogy about the pubs, while probably accurate a lot of the time, is a little 'sweeping'. I fully agree with your points about the womens tourneys and the rake idea is very interesting. It really would be great to encourage more women to play poker and I am surprised that more is not being done considering the current challenging poker industry conditions.
