    Nice hand with jacks Geldy.

I'm sure you don't need my advice but the size of the 5 bet took all my options away, if I continue against that sizing I can only ever be ahead or flipping against jakcks.

Smaller 5bet allows me to bluff 6bet, which you know I often can't resist doing, especially in a button v bb levelling war! ;)

    -----------

Trevlaaaaa, you might be on to something with the TPT thing.

Geldy the other night on cash, Waller tried some 30nl a few months back and owned me every hand, I can only ever remember 1 significant hand v Jac, and he stacked me, Kerrnal is my nemesis in turbo/speed MTTs, K8lou always has 1 better than me, & as you know I've always struggled against yourself over the years!

Haven't even played the phenom that is Mactrad yet !!!

    hmmmmmmm.

Just don't sign up any HU sng regs please.

    Thanks
I had my reasons for the bet size
if only I could remember what they were
    range balancing perhaps
or playing too many tables and needing to do something quick

    ps gl with your December

You remember that? Must have been at least 6 months ago.
Glad it's not just me then. Amazing how poker players can recall hands from years ago. Winning or losing hands.
I could tell you the betting through the streets pretty accurately of my biggest cash hand ever, about 3 years ago.
I could also tell you how I let someone get there and bluff/shoved the river for my biggest losing cash hand. He snapped :) about 2 years ago.

Donny going to stay up? Easy game for you today!
    England to win the ashes?
    Derby to go up?
If I knew how to place bets or accumulators? I might have a go on that one. Sure it would be a decent price.

You certainly know your football Jacccko!

Although we made hard work of it, I thought we'd win by at least 2 or 3 ;)

The price on Derby going up will be contracting all the time, another big win today!

btw, I cnt believe with all your poker experience, live and online, spending hours in the company of gamblers and talking to them onlne that you don't know how to place a bet!

I'll help you out, seeing as though I was critical of the McLaren appointment, i'll have a tenner with you @ evens that DCFC finish outside of the playoff places. Loser donates to Charity.

You don't even have to go up, just finish top 6.

    Easy, no betslips required :P

    ------------------------------

Quick update on yesterdays poker session....

I came 2nd in the €5 €1k gtd turbo in France for €200.

This isn't anything special in isolation but it's the exact same mtt that I played and won on Thursday for €220.

It was funny because it was a really tough final table for a €5 game. Not sickos or anything, but there weren't many obvious soft spots and nobody was giving it away.

Ironically, I finished HU v the weakest player at the table, had plenty of play left, and I managed to blow it.

The odds of me winning it twice in 2 attempts are over 54,000/1.

    Gutted!

I lost abit on sky too, dropped £25 in daytime BHs and £20ish HU.

    -----------------------

December got off to a good start, I had a decent bet on Jol to be the next PL manager sacked around 6 weeks ago.

That finally came in this afternoon, so I've had a winning Sunday without playing a hand :)

    Decembers poker starts tomorrow (today).

Love Monday grinds for some reason, especially if it's raining.

    Weird that innit :/

Forgot to mention in the last post.....

This month a couple of regular forumites Larson & Slipwater will be doing a 24 hour non-stop poker grind to raise money for charity.

I'm sure most of you have seen their thread, but in the unlikely event that there are some readers here who haven't yet seen it, you can read all about it and offer encouragement/support/tips on the thread here.......

Both popular guys on here, and what they're trying to do isn't easy unless you are called donttellmum!

And even he allows himself a couple of hours off per day!

It'll be a big effort by both if they can pull it off.

    -------------

Oh & Jac, I've just realised I subconsciously avoided your Ashes question.

I think that pretty sums up how I feel about the way this series is going to pan out.

    Gulp.

Close but no cigar yesterday !

    I played 6 mtts, across 3 sites.

    #Volume.

    2nd/25 in a £5.50 freezeout on here for £36.

I had something like 55k v 10k going into HU and MKgunner just battered me. Never had a beating like it.

2 €5 comps on winamax I bricked, 1 was pretty much a bubble but I'm not worried about that. It was another promising run though!

20th/220 in that €5 turbo that I've come 1st and 2nd in the last 2 sessions, paid about €19.

Then I came 5th/550 and 5th/700 in the €2r and €10 knockout on .fr, both for €250ish.

Unbelievably frustrating to come so close so often and not close them out.

As you can imagine, I ran very well for most of the session, and it STILL wasn't enough to win 1. Need so much luck in these things.

    -------------

HU went ok back on sky, so a decent start to the challenge.

    Only 15 games, 14% roi for a $48 profit.

Hard to keep track of how I'm doing in this challenge so I'll try this....

Gap between me & 30th @ the start of the month = $478

    Gap now = $436

    Dec sng profit = +$48

A couple of new arrivals on the leaderboard,it would make my task alot easier if you could please start losing.

Or at least stop winning :)

    GL all playing today.

Gap between me & 30th @ the start of the month = $478

    Gap now = $502

    Dec sng profit = +$107

Worst night ever for action yesterday, at 1 point had to wait 35 minutes for a game.

    Back Friday.

In Response to Re: "Sit & DOHHHHHHH Diary" :   I think it's a much more even series, if anything we are going in underdogs. we were within 2 or 3 more overs of winning the home series 4-0. 3-0 is 1 of the most flattering results I can remember, 4 would have just been crazy. No way were we 3 tests better than them. Lehman is going to get them right up for it and playing fearless cricket. If they get their selection right (play people like Bailey/Finch/Warner instead of Kawaja/Cowan/Hughes) and play the right brand of aggressive cricket, (particularly with the bat) I think they'll give us a very hard time. The return to form of Mitchell Johnson is huge also. I don't think we have anyone who can bowl a hostile spell @ serious pace like he can.  Question marks over Finn, Tremlett & Rankin unproven, wickets wont be ideal for Jimmy, I think it's a huge series for Broad. My Ashes preview posted on here 10 weeks ago.

    Beware of Big Mitch :(

    -------------------------

More bad news poker-wise, was at the dentiste' yesterday and have been given antibiotics for a week before he can take the sodding tooth out. Think they are ones you can't drink on, so gg poker :(

Up all night watching us get mullered by Australia is bad enough, having to do it with toothache is just hell.

May try a few non-booze fuelled HU sng sessions for a change to try and keep up with 30th on the leaderboard, but it's looking a tough task to get there now.

    ----------------------

At least it's Saturday so can gamble with the bookies instead, plenty to go at, starting with Jacccos Derby. They're on fire and I don't rate Blackpool at all, think they're P poor.

Derby HT/FT @ 7/4 looks decent enough to moi.

Apolz in advance for the bok.

Stick it with Spurs in the teatime game & Reading = 8/1  Good for a fiver. :D

Ok you have gone a week without gloating, I have doubled the donation and paid it today!
  • edited December 2013
    Yo.

Has been a week since I've updated, which is fairly typical when things are going bad.

It's been a very poor week for me playing wise.

Probably the worst of the year so far.

I was scanning the HU sng lobby as usual earlier in the week and clicked on the £105 HU sng game out of curiosity, to see who was registered.

Was a fella I'd never heard of before, so again out of curiosity I skoped him, and found he had really poor stats, a big minus ROI over a significant sample, and even a goldfish bowl.

I was tempted, but didn't feel brave enough. It was probably a great time to take a shot, I was playing well, things have been going brilliantly recently, confident with my game/roll, running great etc.

Decided to leave it alone and play £10/20s as usual.

Half hour later, it was still there.

    F* it! I'm in!

    Lost. sigh.

Tried to click re-match to have another shot, but I had insufficient funds.

    aghhhhhhh. Probably for the best.

Half hour later again, and he's registered again.

    Deposit.

    Register.

    Crush!

2.75k v 250 chips in my favour, got him! Already thinking "hope he re-matches".

    2.5k v 500.

    2k v 1k.

    THIS CANT BE HAPPENING.

    1k v his 2k!

    GG!

    "sickkkkkkk"

Absolutely gutted, so much equity for £200, all bricked.

    Tilt click the re-match button.

Thankfully, the fella refuses a third game, and leaves me staring at a blank screen £210 worse off and rueing yet another failed shot @ a higher stake.

Would I have been better playing 5x £42 games, or 4 x £50 games? Probably.

Do I regret taking the shot? Abit, probably not overall. Everything was right. It wasn't a rushed, tilted decision like it has been in the past, but maybe it was a little silly given how well things have been going and how high my confidence was.

    Instantly shattered.

Inevitably the rest of the week was poor, I had a couple more losing/break even HU sessions, and ran awful over in French MTTs.

Also spewed a lot on mastercash on Thursday night. (Your welcome, Liam).

Overall it was around a -£500 week.

    HU graph below.

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/10/40fg.jpg/

I say it every single time I fail @ taking a shot (which is everytime I take a shot) but I'm never doing it again.

It's just so demoralising, getting kicked in the nackers time and time again. Momentum is difficult to gain and so important when playing heads up. As is confidence. To shatter it when you have it just hurts too much. A lot more than the actual money.

Imagine writing a 2,500 word essay, and after a 5 hour study grind, you've written 2,000 words and you're really happy with the content.

Then the computer crashes and you realise you haven't saved it at any point in the last 5 hours and you have to do it all again.

It's kind of like that !!!!

(yes, that has happened to me too. doh.)

Heres a stat comparing my fortunes in HU games £21 and below, and games £25 and above.

    http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/2711/jv8x.jpg

    fml.

Anyway my week got a lot better last night when 1 of my staking investments came in to the sum of $3,200!

My best return so far, I run really well with these kind of things, and am very lucky to have made some good poker friends on here who have gotten me out of jail on more than 1 occasion!

So I'm going into this week off the back of my worst poker week of 2013 so far, but also my most profitable.

    Funny game!

    --------------

    Cricket.

We currently need 250 to win with 5 wickets left.

It sounds grim, and the old commentators classic line of "add 2 wickets to the score" and see where it leaves us, makes it sound even more grim.

    But...

How about adding a 100 partnership to the score?

Prior and Stokes could easily put on 100 here.

That leaves the tail 150 to get between them.

    YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

It's the closest we've got to winning a test all series.

    C'mon England!

    GL all playing this week.

Hi Dohhhhh (not sure if I got enough H's in there).

I'm in no position to advise you on poker as I'm sure you're more experienced and better than me.

However I do believe that in general it's good to take a shot at a higher level, whether it be in sport, work, whatever. If it doesn't work for you at that higher level, you come back, regroup, assess what happened and where you went wrong, and prepare to try again. Obviously in the case of poker, 'preparing to try again' can include rebuilding your bankroll.

As long as you're weren't playing at the higher level in order to recoup prior losses (same as a gambler trying to 'double up' at the casino), then I don't really see the problem.

Btw, how did you manage to lose the second game? Did you call a bit too light in an attempt to end the game quickly or did he just get lucky?

They were all standard hands, if I added up my equity to win the game (even though I got it in behind 2/3 times) I would have been above a 1/10 favourite.

But it works in my favour too. Just annoying that it went against me in the bigger game.

I love the idea of betting on sport profitably.

Do you have a twitter account?

I follow lots of traders on there, mainly cricket. I have a rough idea how it all works, but am very keen to learn abit more.

If I can make money watching sport that's like the dream job. Or at least as close as I'm realistically gonna get to my dream job :D

    Yo!

    Binkage to report :)

After the last update things were pretty doom 'n' gloom pokerwise, but have had a really good couple of sessions.

Poker is v powerful, after doing a load in last Saturday I was dreading the Monday morning session, I'd lost a lot of confidence as well as money and I was wondering how I ever managed to win!

2 good winning sessions later and I'm loving playing again and can't wait for the next grind to begin!

Suppose a lot of poker is about timing, and I've had a mini heater just when I needed it.

Monday I won 8 consecutive HU hyper games to take down my favourite €20 HU mtt, for around €350. Couple of other scores around €50 cushioned the session nicely.

Yesterday I found $15 in my 888 account, and decided to use it to play a $3.5k gtd $3.50 rebuy, just about had enough for a double stack, an addon and 1 rebuy if required.

Managed to take it down for just under $1,000.

Even managed to final table a Sky £11 BH!

That is a rare occurrence, although obviously didn't win, had to settle for third & £60ish total.

Apologies for the upbeat nature/braggyness of the post, but I'm well chuffed that I've managed to bounce back from the worst week of my poker year so far with the best week of my poker life so far.

Add in the staking bink (can I count that?) and it's upwards of a $5,000 week.

Still Friday/Sunday sessions to go, hope I don't ruin it! :/

Played some HU on sky last night after the mtt grind, only 9 games, the site was almost unplayable. I won 8, and the 1 I lost was when the table didn't load until I had 70 chips v 930, gg me.

I had a walkover in my favour too, connection variance!

Really needs sorting though. I don't moan on the forum anymore (or try not to) so can HU players keep moaning @ them on my behalf plz, ty :P

    gl all playing this weekend.

brilliant results dohhhhhhh, esp the 888 one. beats finding an old washed out tenner is your jeans.

i made a few lil ventures into £5 games and ran bad at just the wrong time, big hands cracked and some coolers that were unavoidable. it's junk superstition i know, but run bad does seem to strike at THE very worst moment. maybe the only diff between you and the nosebleed regs is that they ran hot when they took shots. fine lines and all that innit.

    may the hot-streak continue.

[and i have continued the moan about the HU lobbies].

Cheers Teddy, yes the 888 was a bonus. In more ways than 1, I now have another site to pick the best mtts from to add to the schedule. Hadn't really given it much of a go aside from turbos, but the game was really good.

I know what you mean about timing when taking shots.

Problem is my sample of 'shots' is getting bigger and bigger, you can blame 3/4/5 even 6/7 fails on bad luck/timing, I'm well above that line though.

Said earlier in the week 'never again'. Getting tempted though! gulp.

Did you ever get on Skype btw? have doubleaa and k8lou added following the post on the TPT thread.

Also curious how you chose your alias, is your name Edward or something?

Done some late night study of the squads without looking at the odds, and really like the Melbourne Storm squad.

Checked the prices, and ofc they're favourites @ 4/1 :(

Still a decent enough price though, Jeremy Kyle @ Christmas is all about happy stories, and no lie detector/dna results, so for some alternative breakfast TV over the xmas period, get a tenner on the Storm!

    Strange session yesterday.

Just didn't feel focussed, I was struggling to keep up with the action early on even 4 tabling, and wasn't really thinking things through. Was weird.

All abit of a blur for a couple of hours!

I'd slept well the night before, had eaten ok etc, maybe just 1 of those days.

As a result, the majorty of the MTT grind was over before I felt I'd even got going.

The last 1 left was the 2pm sky BH which I 1 tabled to victory, after a 45 minute Heads up battle!

    I went in 80k v 60k.

    Was down to 30k v 110k

    Back up to 90k v 50k.

Down to 30k v 100k again, all in and called for the first time at this point, held KQ v Q9.

Before grinding up and winning the final hand with AA v A8.

    Really tough/deep battle.

Didn't play any HU again, couple of hours 3 tabling abit of cash, ended +20 odd quid.

    Played pretty bad.

The 1 big hand I won was bvb v a good agro reg, we got it in on the flop with just a flush draw each, luckily my K high held over his Q high.

Very impressed with Gazza's play, doesn't mess about that lad. Great for the game too.

Really up for a good session tomorrow, hopefully I don't feel like a zombie for the first couple of hours of the grind again. Looking to bink a big en' !

Good start for the Melbourne storm in The Big Bash yesterday too, impressive all round performance and a thumping win!

GL all grinding over the weekend.

Hey Ben, congrats on the new job!

Plan to leave a couple of hundred $$$ on, there isn't much in the midday - 2/3pm schedule for me to play and I only play micros anyway so that should be plenty.

Taken them 4 days now to process the withdrawal and it still isn't done, so if they have it their way, then yeh, I'll be leaving it all on :(

Good luck with the grind over xmas, I've totally gone off sngs with the lobby problems recently so I doubt we'll clash much, just Gooner left for you to worry about ;)

    Yo.

Poor day yesterday to end a great week.

As always poker Sundays always start full of optimism, which soon fades.

1 significant MTT run was in the biggest game of the day, which had around €3.5k up top.

Was in the top 20 with 150 left from 1,500 runners, but had a very volatile table, and kinda went card dead and seemed to run into hands and/or get bluffed off a lot of pots.

Unhappy with my exit hand, I 3bet shoved 18xbb from the big blind with KT. Kinda standard in most scenarios but I knew against this player it was probably bad, I knew it before I even did it, but was frustrated and just gambling on him having the bottom of his opening range.

    Regretted that today.

Played a couple of 30nl tables for an hour, finished around even.

Waited 20 mins for a £21 HU sng, and got nothing, so had a look @ 50nl cash.

Decided to give myself a couple of buyins, no more than that.

They lasted about 10 minutes :(

Opponent has been around the site for a while, used to play abit @ 20 and 30nl 6max against them a few years ago but think they've moved up since.

On the tighter side in 6max, obv no idea how they play HU yet. Think the first buyin was pretty standard, especially as they'll know me as loose/spewy.

Not loving calling off the 5b shove, but don't suppose 4b/folding AQ hu with a loose image is going to be great either.

    ------------

2nd buyin was probably abit more interesting.

Feels like abit of a cooler in a 3b pot, even though it's 3rd pair against 8 high.

Think he's very heavily weighted towards draws given the action and my bet sizing, not seen anything yet to suggest he takes this line with overpairs or 7x etc.

Disappointing not to hold. Would have liked to have continued for another half hour or so, and was very tempted to reload but last thing I wanted to do was ruin a great week by spewing off loads HU.

Pleased I managed to leave just 2 buyins down.

    ------

Unsure about the grind plans over xmas.

Would like to grind either xmas eve or boxing day, but doubt I'll do both. Probably the latter after another all nighter watching England getting spanked down under.

3-3 on aggregate with 2 to play though, hope that's adequate motivation to help us grind out a win!

Good luck all grinding over the xmas period!

    Hello all.

    After some help.

Everyone will be setting their 2014 poker goals about now, mine is to be more organised with results keeping and bankroll management.

I have rolls on a few sites, and in different bank accounts and no real system of keeping track where I am.

I'd like to start keeping a record of results that I can refer to and 'see where I am'.

I grind on a PC, but also use 2 other laptops when I'm not grinding, like now. 1 is windows 8, the others are windows 7. Not even sure if any of them have excel.

Anyone any ideas how I could go about doing this?

Doesn't need to be in great detail.....

I play all formats of poker, cash/sng/mtt/plo and all different games within each format so I'm wanting to keep it to profit/loss for each session overall on each site.....

And maybe an on-going total within each site as well as an overall balance/roll.

I use 5 sites. A sports betting column and maybe a poker staking column would be cool too.

Ideally would be able to access it from all 3 computers that I use, I've seen people do this with 'google docs' when selling staking packages? No idea how to go about it though.

How easy would this be to set up? Anyone fancy having a go at doing it for me?

Would offer something in return, but I aint got anything :P

    -------------

Poker been ticking over nicely, had a great week last week. Got 2nd in France for €300 yesterday and been doing well on skys cash and HU sng tables also.

I realise I set a target to get a star for this month, inevitably there have been very few updates on that as I'm nowhere near and have no chance of getting there after the failed £105 game shots a couple of weeks ago.

Will do a month summary later and think about what's happening with the thread in 2014.

For now I'd really like to get this spreadsheety thing ready for nxt year though.

Last session of 2013 for me tomorrow, then gogogogo new years day!

Best of luck all playing over the New Year period.

Sure. If you want I can just send you the spreadsheet I use which should be fine... you got breakdowns of the different formats you play and running totals of profit/less etc?

I'll need to do a new one for JJ cos he wants a million different things like being able to access it from multiple computers, keeping track of profit/less individually across 5 different sites, sports betting, staking etc, so his will take a little while but I can send you mine straight away if you PM me your email address. Actually I may have you on FB... I think, I can send you it there if I do...
