So I played my free entry £11 Turbo ME, it started really well and I got just above 6k pretty early doors. Not mcuh happened for a while then I played 1 hand probably too aggro and that lead to my demise. I opened K9 on the BTN, 1 caller from the blinds, cbet 78T (think there was a FD), he raises and I ship. we both got the 9 for the OESD but he has a T to go with it and I miss. Left me pretty short and can't remember my exit hand. Finished 277th out of however many played lol, must be 500+
Tell ya what, my memory is absolutely shocking. Was gonna give a summary of the mini but can barely remember anything that happened lol. Was going ok, chipped up well, took a bounty, then iso'd a shorty shove w/ AQs when someone behind had AA. That was a big knock and didn't recover. Finished 134/545 with £4.22 of heads.
Played 2 UKOPS direct satellites, both for £110 mains... a £6 one that was pretty short lived when I had QQ<KK aipf. It was winner takes all with 18 players so can't really apply sat strategy, gotta go for the win, so was a standard GII spot. The other one was a £12 with 13 runners so 1 seat + cash. I got down to HU in that, the stacks were around 18k v 8k in his favour but I still had like 40xBB so was plenty deep enough for a good edge. I got it in on the turn with a flush against trips and he rivered quads. Sigh but at least I got £33
Cash was really mehhh all night, then got my session completely saved by winning 2 big pots on 50NL MC. The second of which (I agree with Ross Jarvis on 861) was unbelievable how I didn't get his full stack. I'll post below but imo a vv nitty river flat.

Ended up finishing +£40 and was about +£15 from the MTTs. Also exceeded the points I thought I'd make, think I've finished day 1 of the rake race with abuot 1200 points. Probably won't show up on the leaderboard tomorrow like cos some of it will have been post midnight.
It was an absolute beast of a session today. It all started where I won a full 200xBB stack at 50NL MC like 5-10 mins into the start of the session with the below hand. I've discussed it with a few mates and they didn't love my line of checking the turn, but at the time I thought villian was a pretty solid reg and he'll view me as pretty solid so he's got a fairly strong/narrow range when I've 3bet and UTG open from the blinds. I don't think there's any chance of me getting 3 streets out of stuff like QQ/JJ but I think if I check turn then he'll definitely bet them at least one street if not both.
Obv the solid reg note needs updating lol. By the way, before anyone mentions it, I know my flop sizing is way too small.

I finished the session just shy of +£450 and earned about 400 points I think so running total is estimated around 1600 atm, will break the 2000 mark tonight.
Nah no Vegas for me this year but if I can continue the recent success and have a good 12 months then maybe next year.
===========================================
I've never been so happy to lose £7 in my life.
I was just talking to LiamBoi before I left the tables 5 mins about how I was playing 50NL and finished +£450 and how tonight had gone so terribly that I'd be happy if I was break even for the day when I stood.
Got absolutely hammered with outdraws and coolers tonight so was over the moon when I stood and saw that somehow I was only -£7 for the night so still pretty much +£450 for the day! So shocked I had to close the 'my account' page and reload it to check it had updated lol... literally no idea how I managed a break even session there.
That is definitely a form of rungood, it felt like such an awful session so -£7 is an amazing result.
Earned another 600 points tonight so running total for the week is about 2200 but who knows what number it'll say on the leaderboard
Yep, it's a great feeling when you discover that it wasn't so bad after all.
Go through stages when I'm multitabling the Dyms when it feels like I've lost every game. I've done the check/recheck thing when it doesn't look as awful as I thought it would as well.
Wiiii another great session. It was going well then I just hit a wall and lost alot of horrible spots.... Someone cold 4b on 50NL MC and I peeled QQ, call 797 flop, call shove on 6 turn, villian has AK... river K. That was 200xBB, then on one of my 40NL tables there was a guy that shall we say was playing... differently.... He opened, I 3bet AK, he just 4b shoves 100xBB w/ K5o, I call and lose. About 5 hands later, he 3bets me and I think I have his number by this point so just ship my AK... he snaps with AT and I lose.
That was pretty frustrating but I could see this was a vvv good table to be sat at so I decided I was not going to bed until this guy left. He left about 5 mins ago and I left that 40NL table with £265.
Total profit for the session was about +£380
I was supposed to do a morning session today but slept it (mega annoyed for doing that) so missed it, but I put an extra long session in tonight and still made about 800 points for the day, so 3 days in and 3000 points earned. If I can keep this up I'm sure one of them iPads is mine.
Played the UKOPS £110 ME tonight and got off to a great start thanks to a masterful piece of complete luck First few levels were quiet then I raised JJ, 1 guy peeled, I cbet 224cc and he just decides to make a huge overbet shove... I think it's so rare that I'll be up against QQ+, 44 or 2x given the action pre and post so I called and he turns over 44... pretty insane way to try and get value on that board in a single raised pot lol but I happened to have one of the few hands that can pay him off.... long story short, the river was a J. I didn't quite get the bounty he had a few hundred chips left but I did have a nice stack.
Went on pretty well from there, chipped up nicely and was a top 10 stack for most of the tourney and took 3 bounties along the way. Got myself into a pretty ugly spot with 33 v TT on 34Thh... thankfully the guy with TT didn't have too big of a stack. Blinds increased ya da ya da, and there was a guy on the table who had developed a penchant for just open shoiving loads with his 20xBB stack... before long I picked up JJ and called him off but my lucks with jacks had ran out and couldn't hold against KQo... that left me with about 200 chips when it was something like 300/600 lol so flicked in my chips the next hand with A2s and lost against K7o.
Frustrating to not go deeper after being in such a great position but on the other side of the coin, I could have just not 2 outered someone early doors and cashed for nothing. I finished 57/260 with 30 paid but got £121.88 in heads so glad to have at least covered the BI.
Also had a good solid night on the cash tables. Well the end result was solid, the bit in the middle was insanely swingly... finished the night +£155 on cash so pretty good night all round.
Slacked on the points again... only made about 650 points today, really don't wanna let it slip cos coming 6th would be mega annoying so got BIG sessions planned for the weekend.
Cheers Spinky, I do seem to be hitting a run of good form at the mo... at the cash tables at least. Just been grinding 50NL this month with bits of 40NL this week to keep my tables up for the rake race and I'm just over +£1500 from them atm. It does also help that I think I'm a fair bit better now than I was last time I was grinding on Sky.
MTTs have been a bit of a mare, only cashed (and I'm including heads as a cash lol) in about 3-4 MTTs all month, so down about £200 on them.
Nah deffo not regretting leaving the stake, the games are just SO much better here.
Just finished another pretty good night at the tables. Things have been going really well recently at 50NL and I've been thinking about taking a few shots at 100NL recently so Saturday night seemed a pretty good time to try. I only added 1 table of 100NL alongside all my other normal tables but things went very well and I left that table with £300. I'd topped up small amounts a couple of times so was prob +£150 ish from the 100NL table.
I had got to about £200 in fairly straight forward fashion, then the jump to £300 involved me doing a pretty cruel outdraw on TommyD (below). I think this may also be the biggest pot I've ever won in poker.

Fwiw, if you're interested in the thought process, the villian that opens was .... 'creative' so I just want to play as many pots IP v him as possible. Tommy squeezes but I know he'll know I'm wanting to play pots with this guy so he's probably thinking that more often than not the opener is gonna call and I'm gonna fold. So I'm not giving Tommy any credit for a hand so I felt it was an ok spot to call IP. On the flop I actually thought Tommy was giving up on the hand after I'd called pre so I'm just betting for value V the opener and happy to just make Tommy fold. But then Tommy doesn't like to give up on a hand if he thinks he can win it so even when he calls the flop I'm still pretty happy I'm ahead most of the time. Turn I checkback for deception to let him bluff rivers which I'm gonna snap off. The sick thing is, this was my thought process so Tommy was getting snapped off on the river even with just my 1pr, so pretty sick for me to make my straight V top set!
I was talking to DTM and he made a good point about how the staking has probably helped me feel more comfortable with the amounts on the table. Like playing $100/200NL it obviously didn't take too long for me to feel like getting in $200 at some point in a hand was just normal, so when I was playing 100NL tonight I wasn't really put off by the larger amounts in play.
Someone said this to me in chat tonight which I thought was pretty funny. Even stranger because I've barely ever played against him and before April I was hardly playing on Sky at all for a few months. Removed the name obv...
XXX: i typed this over 2 months ago in your notes - "actually the goldenest person on here" XXX: u can post it on your blog
To be fair... after my hand against Tommy above, he might be right! I finished +£220 btw
Tonight was about as brutal as it gets on the cash tables, got it in pre either flipping or crushing (like QQ v AQ) for stacks at least 5 times and didn't win one and similar with many many allins that were <100xBB. I knew I was due a bad session at some point tbf because everything has been going swimmingly really, and my monthly figures are still pretty good so can't complain too much. I finished -£370
I played some more 100NL tonight, this time 2 tables of it, and finished about +£200 from these so similar to last night 100NL ended up saving the session a bit. Not much else to report really other than the fact I beat that pot size from the hand yesterday with Tommy and won my biggest ever pot again (albeit by about £10) and this time it was by hero calling with A high...

Bust the £110 ME not far off the money 56/332 with 34 paid. Had a bit of a mare in it to be honest, just couldn't get going, everytime I won a pot I'd go and lose a flip race against a shorty 2 mins later and lose a small chunk etc. Was grinding a small stack from there being about 100 runners left, did pretty well to keep it going, spun it up a couple of times and spun it down too. There is only one hand that stands out that I played truly awful, basically I called off a jam from a pretty short stack postflop trying to be a hero with AK on 337T, luckily he had T7 so I at least had my 2 overs as outs but missed. The exit happened over the course of 2 hands really. I'm in the BB, the SB opens and is quite short, I shove K4s and lose when he calls with KQ... stil pretty happy with that shove though cos he'd already raise/folded to shoves from me in similar spots. Then shortly after that hand I jammed J9o, called by K6s, I flopped the J but he went runner runner flush.
Earned another 700 ish points tonight as it stands but I don't think you get the points from an MTT until the MTT ends (which the UKOPS ME hasn't) so I think it'll be 800. Looking at the leaderboard today, I don't wanna count my chickens yet but it looks like it would be very hard for me not to finish top 5.
I'll go nuts in the morning if I find out I was wrong and end up coming 6th on the leaderboard lol but after seeing today's update I figured I was a lock for an iPad and I was just feeling drained after playing the last 6 days straight for like 7+ hours per day so decided to have a chilled night.
^^^ Respect to DTM btw, for doing more hours than that daily and doing it for like 25+ days of the month, it aint easy!
I couldn't take the full night off cos I sold action in the £110 UKOPS main so had to play that obv. I also decided to make a proper go of the playing the sats for UKPC this time (cos I hardly bothered last time) so played pretty much every sat that ran. I ran about as well tonight as I did yesterday which is to say that I was doing ok at winning pots but as soon as the money went in pre, it was gg me.
Regged a £5 Direct into the £52, only 1 seat up for grabs, got down to the HU with a pretty decent CL, about 13k v 5k and against a guy I felt I had a pretty big edge over. Then I just couldn't win a pot to save my life, stacks eventually got to pretty much dead on even, I 3bet jammed 99 and got called by AJ, runout was xxxxJ... sigh 1 card from £52.
Regged anothe £5 Direct but mustn't have got enough runners so it never ran.
Regged the £10.50 Quarter Final and won my seat into the £48 Semi, which raises a question I'm a little confused about.... dunno if Sky have made a mistake with the sats or I'm missing something. Last time it was a £1k event which is actually £1000 + £100 and as far as I remember the QFs cost a tiny bit more, the Semis were £52 (as opposed to £48) and the Finals were £240 (as opposed to £220). That confused me, then I looked at the UKPC ME in the lobby and it's showing as £1000 so I thought 'oh that's strange, maybe it's like £920 + £80' but looked in the lobby and it's showing as £1000 + £0 so no rake being charged... confused!!
Anyway played the £48 semi and all was going well, chipped up slowly from the very start with no big risks. It got down to 11 left (4 seats + money for 5th) and I was doing well, middle of pack, then got it in 55 v J5o and lose another race sigh. Didn't dent me hugely but every chip counts at that stage of a sat and it would have put me in an even better position and knocked out a player... folding for a bit more and then shipped AKs into rivermunky's KK to bust out
Played a £2.60 all in sat for the £52 game too just cos there was big overlay in it but no luck there.
The UKOPS main was pretty meh, never really got going, was pretty much always below starting stack then I won my first flip of the night when my TT held up against Wacko's AK to bust him for £37.50 and get me back to a smidge over starting stack. By this point starting stack wasn't that great though and ended up shipping 55 over a raise, called by AJ and that was gg.
Now the iPad thing is over, I'm taking a well deserved day off tomorrow for the first time in a week, and will hopefully come back fresh to crush the remainder of the month.

Good luck on hanging on in for the iPad, sounds like it will be well deserved.
Out of interest, how many hours per day / month have you had to put in since going full time with the poker? I kinda figured that the 8 hour grinds were the norm, essentially 'working' a normal day, albeit with odd hours to take advantage of the greater earning potential later in the day.
I never really appreciated it until grinding during a rake race last year when I was off work - have to say that even if I did ever get good enough to play full time, I thought I loved poker but I'd choose to stick with the day job!!
Hi. Any chance I could DM you a few questions on cash play. I've recently moved into playing mainly cash after being a long term MTT player and would like some advice if you could.
If your too busy that fine, will still read your blog
Cheers Shakin, would be nice if Sky could give us the final update to see if I won one or not, it is gone 4pm afterall
Yeah working 8 hours is pretty standard, I tend to break it up a bit though because for me, I feel that 6-7 hours into a session I'm probably not playing quite as well as I was 1hr into the session. So I tend to do something along the lines of 10am - 2pm and then 8pm - midnight maybe 1am on a playing day. So the hours this week have been pretty much the same but I don't usually do it for a week solid. One of the big pluses to me about playing full time is the flexibility it affords you... so I don't HAVE to do 5 days then have a weekend off or whatever might be the same as a 'regular' job. I don't like missing weekends cos obv it's the time when the cash tables are the best so I'll usually do something along the lines of the hours I mentioned above but only play on say Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, still 5 days a week but it's nice to break it up and get a break from the tables regularly so I'm not usually playing more than 3 days straight. That'll vary from week to week depending on if I'm doing something with the missus on a certain night or w/e but that's the general jist, that I like to break it up a bit.
Yeah Craig that's fine, fire them over. Fwiw, from what I've seen of your input in the clinic you seem to know what you're doing and I can't imagine you'd have too much trouble winning in most games at least up to 30NL.
try refreshing your cache, deleting cookies etc. I looked at the leader-board earlier today and it says there is an IPAD AIr due to your, for your efforts in March...
I would suggest you get in touch with customer services about it. I will try and PM you a picture of what I have seen if you need it.
Cheers Gary but that's just the latest leaderboard you'll be seeing, so it'll say 'Last Updated: 21/04/2014'. It needs to have been updated today to include Monday's points to confirm if I'm still top 5 or not. I'm pretty confident I will be but I obv want confirmation.
They've said now anyway that there's a problem with the reporting so we'll have to wait until tomorrow (morning hopefully)
I was very happy to see the final leaderboard today and see that I did win an iPad. Somehow I even managed to move from 4th to 3rd despite hardly playing anything on the last day so everyone must have just took their foot off the gas on the last day.
I went out and got a new (used) car yesterday after my last one blew up recently. I don't really do that many miles these days now that I don't commute to a place of work but we kinda do need that 2nd car because I go to spend the weekend with my daughter in Liverpool every other week and Emma doesn't appreciate me stealing her car because it means the one time of the week she gets free time to go the shops or take the kids out she doesn't have a car (and we live in the middle of nowhere).
So yeah not many miles these days so just wanted a basic runaround that was gonna last me a while. Got a 2005 Peugeot 206, it is a sport like but was one of the best priced cars around, low insurance, low car tax and only 45,000 miles on the clock... and I do love the black wheels
One more night off for me tonight and then it's back to the grind Thursday and try and win the jackpot.
Just stood from my session early cos I'm feeling more tilted than I can remember feeling for a VERY long time. I've just bust out of the main just outside of the money... I was doing amazing in the main from start to finish, everything was going pretty much as good as it's possible to go. There are about 60 left and I'm 3rd in chips (52 paid) and very deep stacked. I'm in a pot with the only guy at the table that even has close to my stack, I mean to bet 2300 and I bet 23000.... nooooooo but then I think 'it's ok, what are the chances he has a hand to call such an insane over bet with'..... SNAP with a set and I'm drawing dead. Left with 5xBB and end up finishing about 5 off the money.
I had the most amazing table ever, and was like 50xBB deep, feel absolutely gutted that I just completely blew a shot at like £2k or at least making my 2nd ME FT.
After that I was just way too tilted to be able to carry on with the rest of the session so I snap left all my cash tables. I've ran rubbish in pretty much every single MTT I've played this month and had no results and then the first time I go on a suck run, I go and blow it
Very unlucky, Paul. I've done similar things in the past and I'm sure you have too. Such as gone to fold but as you select table the button changes and you raise! Time is a great healer and remember, you could easily have made the money and still got coolered and/or lost a pot on cash that left you down. Poker is a cruel mistress we all return too!
"Not a bad day overall" £200 profit for the day, obviously tilting going out in that fashion in an mtt where a big score could come your way, but yeah to put into perspective not long ago you wouldn't of just been merely mentioning a £200 day as if it was nothing you would of been celebrating a really good session. Nice work on the cash tables lately clearly crushing, keep it up no doubt be crushing higher soon.
you sound like myself paul, i watched some of the hand myself as i was following you and ryan (scotty77) to keep myself relaxed in it. i think he looked to have played it weakly himself. i was thinking myself i would get to the final table and was shoved by 99 OTF when he called me preflop and now their was a K.
UL with your attempt to bluff and the size, the positive thing is you didn't do as i did when i went AI with a missed draw in that UKOPS. keep it up mate.
I can see how the flexibility would be a bonus with pro player... always the best part of being your own boss!
I think the thing I'd struggle with most is the work/life balance of playing regularly - ie the best time to work is also the best time to be in the pub with your 9-5 mates I guess that dissipates when you live with your partner and have children though, off-set by getting to at least spend a lot more time in their company (even if you are concentrating on poker at the same time).
It is great to read that you've been able to give yourself this option though. You and also people like Larson are both players for those of us getting our head around NL4-NL10 to aspire to and see what could be possible if we continue to put the effort in.
Fell off the radar a bit recently which is usually the sign of losing lol.
I try not to post all the really negative/moany thoughts anymore, I just don't think it helps me in terms of my mental game/playing well and it's gotta be rubbish to read.
Some of you will saw I posted about nearly being at te end of my biggest ever winning month a little while ago, I was cruising to have my first month of over £2k profit (excluding my UKPC bink obv) and then my Friday/Saturday sessions where just horror sessions. Just the usual, no-one ever folding when you aint got it, and when you do just snap folds, and a lottt of coolers.
Took Sunday off to chill out for a day and not think about poker and finally watched The Hobbit (the 1st part) which Emma got me on DVD at Xmas and we still hadn't got round to watching. I was a bit sceptical but I really enjoyed it and wanna see the 2nd film asap. Does anyone know, is the 3rd one even made/released yet?
Came back fresh today and ran about as good as I had on the weekend. Had KK < AA aipf, and then like 5 mins later KK v AA again except this time it didn't go in pre... it did go in after the AKx flop though lol. Pretty brutal session again.
So I was looking at over £2k profit, now after them 3 days I'm still just about clinging on to a £1k profit which is not to be sniffed at but very frustrating. It's times like this you wish you hadn't just blown up a top 3 stack in the main event a few days ago! lol
I did notice the points seem low in the iPad rakerace. Might try and hammer these last 3 days, see if I can win £100 from that and more importantly give myself the best chance of recovering the last few days losses. Either way it's gonna be my first time in Priority for ages cos I'm on 9k and will deffo be making 1k in the next few days even if I take it easy.
I played 6 MTTs tonight and I don't think I survived more than about 20 mins in any of them. My exit from either 4 of 5 of them was QQ into KK/AA or KK into AA preflop. The main ended when JTo turned 2pr against my KK and I couldn't get away.
Played the £33 BH, 2 x £10.50 satellites into the UKPC Semi, 2 x £11 BHs, and one £24 satellite for the Mega Roller. So £100 outlay in total, and my total return was a £3.75 bounty in one of the £11 games.
The good news...
The cash tables tonight started as rubbish as they have been for a few days, then about 11pm, it was like a switch had been flicked and everything turned around, I stopped getting coolered so much, people started actually having worse hands than me that were strong enough to call a street or two and of course I ran well. I also made a few good call downs, the same kind I've be making all the time but just recently despite it being a good call down, they happen to have had the top of their range... tonight things were kinder.
I'll post a few big pots from the night...
I just stood from the cash tables with just shy of £500 profit which is just about my biggest winning session of the month so far.
Still lost the £100 on MTTs obv but prior to the session I'd have taken any sort of winning so a +£400 night is vvv nice!!
Comments
Obv the solid reg note needs updating lol. By the way, before anyone mentions it, I know my flop sizing is way too small.
===========================================
Slacked on the points again... only made about 650 points today, really don't wanna let it slip cos coming 6th would be mega annoying so got BIG sessions planned for the weekend.
MTTs have been a bit of a mare, only cashed (and I'm including heads as a cash lol) in about 3-4 MTTs all month, so down about £200 on them.
XXX: u can post it on your blog
To be fair... after my hand against Tommy above, he might be right! I finished +£220 btw
That confused me, then I looked at the UKPC ME in the lobby and it's showing as £1000 so I thought 'oh that's strange, maybe it's like £920 + £80' but looked in the lobby and it's showing as £1000 + £0 so no rake being charged... confused!!
Now the iPad thing is over, I'm taking a well deserved day off tomorrow for the first time in a week, and will hopefully come back fresh to crush the remainder of the month.
I had the most amazing table ever, and was like 50xBB deep, feel absolutely gutted that I just completely blew a shot at like £2k or at least making my 2nd ME FT.
I'll just get the results out the way quick...

Congrats on the new iPad as well!
