In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Let me get this right Aski. You got on a Train, & never took the number, or details, Locomotive or Set Number, how many carriages, slam-door or slider, Diesel, Diesel Electric, or Electric? I suggest you stick with Orford's Merry Band of Losers..

and people wonder why I chose the Lord Orford.

Speaks in a slow loud patronising voice that the younger generation use to the elderley these days :).

    T H E   T R A I N  W E N T    P A S  T    M Y   H O U S E

hence I wasnt on it, plus I'd forgot to buy a new notebook, as my last one was already full of train and plane numbers, plus I was watching a rerun on channel 865 (think it was one i'd only seen 6 times ;) ) and I was being distracted by a rather loud red jacket, altho the repeat did have some positives, as the amusing intelligent, witty and extremely good orator Richard Orford was on too.

However, Tikay I knew you would want to know more details about the train, so I went to the station this morning and told the station master that I wanted what train had gone past, as we were having this conversation on the interwebby thingy, I may have even mentioned your name Tikay, as his eyes glazed over, and he started drooling at the mouth.

Anyways after the ambulance arrived and they took him away ,  a British Rail P R guy mentioend that the station master had worked all over the country and beleived he was being stalked by yourself, as you always seemed to be at the same station that he was located at, but B R believed that you were relatively harmless,a nd thus they were glad to fullful my request , and let me have an image of the train that went past, so that you can add it to your collection :)

    Greetings Legend!!!!

My question is yesterday i enjoyed a superb day trip on board the Orient Express that travelled through North Wales,Mid Wales, Staffordshire,Shropshire and even to the deepest part of Herefordshire and i enjoyed the finest gourmet cuisine, fine wines and champagne!.

Have i got one up over you by doing a train journey that you've never done? lol!!!!

Also all the train journeys that you have done over the years whether it is in the UK or not, what has been your all time favourite train journey that you have enjoyed?

My personal favourite including yesterday's exploits has to be when i was holidaying in Vienna 5 years ago and i took a train ride from Vienna International Airport to my hotel in the centre of Vienna and just some of the scenary that i went past was gorgeous and Vienna itself is a beautiful city and is also home to the world famous Concord Card Casino!!!

(PS: I just want to make it perfectly clear that i am not a saddo and that i am NOT a train enthusiast but i would seriously recommend to anyone that you experience a first class trip on the Orient Express because it is awesome and the memories of the day/s will last forever i assure you on that!!!)

When would you advise a newish player to start playing cash tables?

hi tikay not played in a velocity before any tips how to play  please
  • edited November 2009

I've been on PM catch-up this morning, all done now I think.

I have had this question, or it's equivelant, 8 or 10 times via PM, so I'm gonna cut & paste a typical one here & answer it, so it saves me multi-answering.

gd morning sir!! its just recently caught my attention that ive missed out on this team activity was wondering how i went around getting involved? i missed the 1st clash but i see another scheduled for a few days time and id love to plap for team tikay!

This refers to TKO. I'm afraid it's too late to register for TKO now, but I gather there is a very good chance that a new version of TKO will happen early in the New Year, so look out for that. The winner of the current TKO - Team Tikay I expect - will, assuming Sky Poker decide to repeat it, take on a new challenger in the next Series, just after Christmas.

    One more multi PM question.....

also whats this apat thingy where i see youre looking for 10 players to represent you in manchestre soon? ive seen most of the big sky poker names in the list but i wanted to know whether theyd been selected or have they all won a certain amount of points in a month i dont know?

They were not selected as such - they put their names forward, but there were way too many, & they are currently playing what amounts to a series of eliminators to whittle down the players to a Team. Sky Poker have helped in this by running Private Tourneys for them, & FlashFlush, as Team Captain, is sorting it all out. I'm afraid it's too late to enter now, but it was widely promoted on the Forum for a very long time.

There will be other APAT Team Events in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.

    Hi scrummy,

I can't help much I'm afraid, I have only ever played one Velocity! It's not really suited to my playing style, so I avoid them like the plague, though I somehow cashed in the one I played - no idea how.

I'm playing one on Tuesday, at 7pm, in TKO, but that'll be a doddle, as our Opponents are all a bit doddery.

Whenever you want - but if you are a new Player, the sooner the better, as Cash is easier than Tourneys, with much lower variance. Not as exciting as Tourneys, but infinitely more profitable.

The 5p-10p & 15p-30p Games are quite straightforward, just nit up, use Position, watch tricks carefully to see who does what, & you'll be fine.

    Yes - absolutely, 100%!

There are a series of little boxes to tick before you play ANY hand, in any format, at any time.

These include Position, your hand, the VPIP of your Opponent, what you consider his holding to be, who might act after you, and the size of your stack relative to his/hers.

If you have, say, 10,000 chips & the Blinds are 200-400 (so you have 25 x BB), & a player with 12,000 sets you all-in, when you are holding 6-6 - that's an easy Pass.

But if he only has 2,000 chips, it's an easy Call - because.....

    a) He cannot bust you, or do you much damage.

    b) As he only has 5 x BB, his opening Range is VERY wide, he may have Ace-bit, or more likely, ATC. So that's an easy Call.

Same hand, 6-6, totally different optimal play - because of the relative stack sizes.

ALWAYS check your opponents stack size. Sometimes you see a player try to run a bluff against a player who is pot-committed - cannot Pass - how ridiculous is THAT! Make bluffs against stacks that can Pass, never against those who cannot!

So yes, it's high up on the Check-List of things to consider before playing any hand.

Late in a Tourney, it's ESSENTIAL to know relative stack sizes - absolutely essential, every single hand.

I am aware of Jedward, I think. Are they the two conceited little boys with not a shred of talent? About the same age as Nutter5932?

    X-Factor indeed, I can't believe grown-ups watch that unadulterated poo. ;)

I'm jealous, though to be honest, The Orient Express does not float my boat.

Vienna - did you manage to visit, or play, at Concord Card Casino (CCC)? Until DTD opened, I thought CCC was arguably the world's finest Cardroom. In those days, Big TK - Thomas Kremser - was running the place, but he's moved on now, & runs Tourneys all over the world, including some of the EPT's. Marina, his petite wife, and a Dealer, whom he married in Vegas 3 years back, also worked there. Both of them are very fine players, by the way.

I'll deal with fave Train Journeys seperately.

I'm afraid gourmet cuisine is wasted on me - steak & kidney pudding ftw - likewise fine wines & champagne, as I've been teetotal since I was 21.

Yes, you got me there - I've never done that journey.

    My fave train journeys?

Paddington to Penzance, GWR, particularly the coastal stretch through Devon. The track between Dawlish Warren & Dawlish is easily my favourite, wonderful childhood memories.

Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley. Beautiful once it gets North of Donny. I often used to jump a train to Edinburgh in the morning, stay overnight at The Balmoral Hotel (attached to the Station) & get the early train back to London next morning, just for the sake of it.

Nice to Monte Carlo, SNCF. There is no airport in Monte Carlo, so you fly to Nice & then either get the Air Taxi (Helicopter), proper taxi (very exciting, it goes through about 30 tunnels, but the taxi-drivers are all mad), or Train. The Train runs right along the Med Coastline, & it's just beautiful.

Journey I want to do. The Caledonian Sleeper, Euston to Fort William. Diesel-hauled, slam-door stock - a must!

Also, any rail service north of Inverness would be a dream.

I'm gonna retire & do all those things. I actually retired about 6 years ago to do them, but it all went wrong somewhere.

I don't know is the answer to that, but someone else PM'd me to point out the same thing, so I'll have to ask Sky-Rich.

In truth, what language is acceptable for me to use should be fine for you, & vice-versa.

So, until we know the answer, I'll refrain from using the p word, & replace it with doo-doo. Thats seems fair to me.

The same guy who told me about this also wrote to me today (not replied yet, sorry) about last night's Show, saying he enjoyed the banter about the plump lady & her grandma's frock. It was a true story, strangely. I never saw much of her after that convo, strangely enough.

Been fortunate to travel on these lines North of Inverness and recommend you do them over 3 days starting on East coast through Tain up to Wick and Thurso and then round to the west coast, spend a bit of time on Isle of Skye and Kyle of Lochalsh ending up at Fort William.  It honestly is a different world between scenery and wildlife and very friendly people

I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful evening at the CCC on the penultimate night of my holiday as i made myself a promise that i had to go there (mainly because i heard several references made about the CCC made by Jesse May in the early days of Late Night Poker!) and i kept to my word and i must say not just with Vienna but the other parts of Austria i've visited (Salzburg and Innsbruck), it is without any question the most friendliest and classiest country i have EVER visited. The locals are some of the nicest people i have ever met and boy can they talk a good game of Poker!.

You do surprise me somewhat that the Orient Express does not float your boat because i honestly did think that with your major passion for Trains, i thought you may have stepped on board the OE sometime in your life.
