In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Been fortunate to travel on these lines North of Inverness and recommend you do them over 3 days starting on East coast through Tain up to Wick and Thurso and then round to the west coast, spend a bit of time on Isle of Skye and Kyle of Lochalsh ending up at Fort William.  It honestly is a different world between scenery and wildlife and very friendly people

    Stop it!

Really, that was part of my reason for retiring early, to do all that. I'm particularly keen to do the West Coast of Scotland, having spent a good bit of time in Fort William & Ballaculish (sp?). I want to try & drive every yard of the Coast I can, including all the Islands, & the sticky-out bits like Campbelltown. Did you know Campbelltown has an Airport? And a Golf Club - Machnhanish Golf Club - it must be awesome to play there. And I will.

I've started planning it again recently, with the aid of google Maps, google Satellite, google Terrain & google Earth. What awesome tools they are, all free, too.

I'm a wildlife geek, too, birds especially, so it's gotta be done, & when the music stops for me here at Sky Poker, as it inevitably will one day, I'll be off up to Scotland like a shot.

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : I'm afraid gourmet cuisine is wasted on me - steak & kidney pudding ftw - likewise fine wines & champagne, as I've been teetotal since I was 21. Yes, you got me there - I've never done that journey. My fave train journeys? Paddington to Penzance, GWR, particularly the coastal stretch through Devon. The track between Dawlish Warren & Dawlish is easily my favourite, wonderful childhood memories. Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley. Beautiful once it gets North of Donny. I often used to jump a train to Edinburgh in the morning, stay overnight at The Balmoral Hotel (attached to the Station) & get the early train back to London next morning, just for the sake of it. Nice to Monte Carlo, SNCF. There is no airport in Monte Carlo, so you fly to Nice & then either get the Air Taxi (Helicopter), proper taxi (very exciting, it goes through about 30 tunnels, but the taxi-drivers are all mad), or Train. The Train runs right along the Med Coastline, & it's just beautiful.  Journey I want to do. The Caledonian Sleeper, Euston to Fort William. Diesel-hauled, slam-door stock - a must! Also, any rail service north of Inverness would be a dream. I'm gonna retire & do all those things. I actually retired about 6 years ago to do them, but it all went wrong somewhere.

    Wow!!!.

Like i've said before, i'm not a person that has a major passion on Trains but by hearing great tales of all the trips you have done, i find it all REALLY fascinating stuff and it's certainly more interesting than watching that mindless and uneducated drivel that is the X-Factor!!!.

If you had a VERY tall fruit tree and no ladder, would you choose GREGHOGG or Thomas Kremser to help you pick the fruit from the top branches?
    Posted by MereNovice
Thomas Kremser - he's MUCH taller than Hoggers.

We have a pact - I call him Big TK, & he calls me Little TK. Sigh.

I like him very much, typically Austrian, perfect English, perfect manners, great sense of humour.

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful evening at the CCC on the penultimate night of my holiday as i made myself a promise that i had to go there (mainly because i heard several references made about the CCC made by Jesse May in the early days of Late Night Poker!) and i kept to my word and i must say not just with Vienna but the other parts of Austria i've visited (Salzburg and Innsbruck), it is without any question the most friendliest and classiest country i have EVER visited. The locals are some of the nicest people i have ever met and boy can they talk a good game of Poker!. You do surprise me somewhat that the Orient Express does not float your boat because i honestly did think that with your major passion for Trains, i thought you may have stepped on board the OE sometime in your life.
    Posted by OnlyOneCT
Austria - yes, amazingly clean, too.

Orient Express - I've no idea why it does not turn me on. A bit commercial, I suppose, but it's never ticked any boxes for me, & I don't really know why.

Now, back to Vienna for one moment. (Love the Airport there btw, so spacious).

Now, let me ask YOU a question, & if you answer it "somewhere like",  I'll tell you an extraordinary story about a WSOP Bracelet Winner, & a Vienna Taxi.

So - & think about this carefully - how many Taxis do you think there are in Vienna? (Roughly).

I took the Air-Taxi from Monte Carlo to Nice once, as a guest of Marc Goodwin, after he finished 2nd or 3rd in the famous Monte Carlo Milliions won by Phil Ivey, when Phil did that steal re-steal re-re-steal thing against Paul Jackson. - never again, ugh. I nearly doo-doo'd myself.

That particular week in Monte Carlo would get a whole chapter in the unlikely event that I'd ever write a book. Dave Colclough, Marc Goodwin, Ram Vaswani, TonyG. Joe Beevers, bluffs & double bluffs, off-table nonsense, on-table tantrums, a grown man crying, a bust-up, & plenty more besides would all feature.

Marc Goodwin won a quarter of a million bucks (he had Shares in two others on the Final Table), & he had it in his hand-luggage, in cash. I had been Updating ther Event for my "other place", with Dave Colclough & Jen Mason - Jen is the UK's finest female player by a country mile, but she worked for me at the time, to earn a little money. (And it was little).

He'd promised Jen & I that we'd get the Air Taxi back to Nice the morning after, as well as giving us both a very handsome "drink" for Updating the Event so well. I HATE helicopters, but had no choice really.

After the Event had finished the night before, we'd all gone for a Meal - Phil Ivey, Paul Jackson, Dave Colclough, Jen, & a few others, but after the Meal, they all went for a drink, so I swerved it, & went back to my Hotel.

We assembled for the Heli-Trip at 9am the next morning, Marc, Jen & me, & it was clear Marc had been up all night, drinking. He was "tired & distressed" to say the least.

So at the Heli-port I gave him a surprise - a big fried breakfast, with runny fried eggs, the lot. He almost threw up on the spot.

Which was nothing compared to me when the Helicopter took off. It's only a 7 minute hop, but I don' think I took breath the whole way.

Never - never EVER again - will I get in a Helicopter.

TK - have you even been on the Trans-Siberian line?  If so, what were your thoughts on it?

I'm of Russian descent, and was due to go there with my (now ex) Russain girlfriend about a year or so ago.  It fell thru due to a number of medical problems I had, but its still one of my ambitions to go there.  Just need to run deep in the Sunday Million one time?!

It WILL be lambing season I hope - Spring is the best time to do Scotland imo, & anyway, what's not to like about lambs?

    I love eveything about Scotland.*

    * Inhabitants excepted. ;)

No. The nearest I got was the Moscow-St Petersburg line, on which, only yesterday, there was a quite awful tragedy.

Both Termini are quite extraordinary. When peeps get off the train, they just walk onto the tracks - at the opposite end to the barriers - & wander wherever they want! That'd go down well at Paddington. NOT.

And Moscow Train Station is known locally as St Petersburg, & St Petersburg Train Station is known as Moscow. Because the line goes there. Go figure. It gets well complicated at the Ticket booth.

Here's the reply I gave to a similar question I answered an hour or two go Mr Play.

This refers to TKO. I'm afraid it's too late to register for TKO now, but I gather there is a very good chance that a new version of TKO will happen early in the New Year, so look out for that. The winner of the current TKO - Team Tikay I expect - will, assuming Sky Poker decide to repeat it, take on a new challenger in the next Series, just after Christmas.

I nearly did this too, but it fell thru due to an ex girlfriend, as the Soviets refused to let a single 23 year old male westerner in their country (this was in 1989), after my ex decided that she didnt want to go on the train, despite it being her idea . Ended up going to Kenya and Tanzania instead and climbing Kilamanjaro before it became the fashionable thing to do ;)

Closest I ever got after that was reading the Big Red Train Ride by Eric Newby

Are you referring to Aspers in Newcastle? No, I assume if you bring your Membership Card for Swansea, that would suffice. Check though, as I'm not 100% sure - but that's what all the other Casino Groups do.

As a matter of curiosity, LCI-owned Casinos (ALEA's, Rendezvous's, The Empire etc) do not require Membership - you just walk in.

Huge fun, incredible luck swings (both ways), lost a tidy penny, sat with long-standing friends the entire night, wonderful. May Blog it up later. Played a Tourney, & then 4 hours of £5 £10 DC.

Despite what the blinkered Online grinders say, Live poker is the absolute nuts if you want to enjoy poker, real poker with real people. You don't get puerile name-calling in Live Poker, either!

Just penned a quick blog - "Lose some, lose some".....

Just a routine night of Live Poker really. I'll get back to the (hopefully) interesting anecdotal stuff in the next one.

    Hi Jason.

Welcome to the Sky Poker Forum.

    1) Cash games. Can you tell me a little more about what is going wrong at the higher level Cash Tables please, then I, or others, may be able to help.

    2) Hand Histories for Tourneys. I'm not able to see or access these for other Players, & if I were, there'd be hell to pay, as I play on this Site a lot, & I'd have "inside info".

    Not much help, am I?

I'll try & answer the Cash Question if you feed back to me.

    Ah  MR TK Sir,

Words of wisdom would be most kind, (and from any other kind soul)

Ok took up this game a few months ago  LOVE IT.

    Here's my strategy
I am reading every book I can get my hands on, love the maths behind the  game

I am using the DYM tables to build up my bankroll, that's going along fine.

I then set myself Bankroll targets, If I have a this much in the account then treat yourself to a MTT Bounty Hunter or the like.  Took a while but have just made my first couple of final tables on the MTT, came 4th in the £400 BH last night.

Anyway,  the Question ( At last I hear you all cry)

Is this a reasonable way to build up my experience and bankroll, or can you maybe suggest some other ways I can improve

Look forward to hearing your replies, or to be told to sod off and work it out for myself,  which ever you prefer

    Hi

Yup, its an absolutely acceptable way of building your bankroll, I would maybe suggets having a try at a deepstack or two, these are a very good way to learn poker, and the players will help you with your poker, if you have the patience, just remember that varience is a fickle thing and can easily go for you as well as against, so dont be afraid to drop down a level should you start to lose, and dont play above your bankroll limit :)

    Hi logzik,

Welcome to the Sky Poker Forum.

"The Open" is the generic Term we use at Sky Poker for our 8pm Main Event each night, though sometimes it's branded "Promo", "Bounty Hunter" or "Double Chance".

Tonight is a pukka "Open", it starts at 8pm & is £10 + £1 to enter, with a Guaranteed Prize Pool of £4,000. PLUS whatever Sky Santa & Sky Alf stick in the pot!

I'll answer the various questions tomorrow, "able" included, but I'm all-in for today, & I gotta drive home tonight, a 2.5 hour trundle up the M25 & M1.

What a grand night it was again tonight - that TKO thing is massive fun. And I fancy it's 2-0......

    Night all.
