Didn't quite work out as planned tonight Tikay. I played really well in your 'Coach Kendall' chipped up well early, lost half my stack in a cooler when I got it in pre with KK v AA, but I didn't let it get me down because I still had my starting stack, chipped up well again to about 10k. Was doing well but the stacks all got a bit shallow and I lost a couple of races. Finished 121st out of the 1000 runners, so still a decent show, but would have been nice to FT for the hoody or even win it.

I also made an early exit in the Blackpool semi. I was down to about half my stack after a bad hand, then I got it in on the flop with a straight draw, and a flush draw against 1 pair and missed. Oh well, there's always next time.

i had a really aggresive player, who raised 5x or 6x bb on my bb.
obviously i had to fold each time, making a stand with rubbish didnt make sense, and could only try to
make moves as and when i could, hoping that i would at one stage catch him out.
when i eventually re-raised him all -in with AQ  he called showed KK obviously he won.
it was more frustrating losing to him, not only for him having a hand and winning, but losing to the ultra aggressor.

how is the best way to deal with an ultra aggresive player ???

    Hi Tikay,

So we've heard how you've caught the sun a little bit too much and needed medical attention. Please ....you may be looking in fine fettle after your diet but let's not try to get on the Carlo band wagon....we only need one tangerine on the show!!!

Talking of Carlo.I'm so looking forward to his poached egg eating bonanza. He'll be green in colour rather than orange! We need a picture competition with him in his chicken suit, i feel.

Your Luke Schwarz post was excellent, mate. I'm so glad you stood up to be counted. It would ruin the experience for me at a live tournament with a 'less understanding player' at the table. You should send him the Jared Tendhlar book courtesy of SKY.

Loved the Hendon Mob shows that were on. They were great and really put the enjoyable side of the game over as well as giving warnings about the life of a pro. I think balance is the key in all that we do. Go to an extreme and poblems occur.

By the way, 'Teeks' as Anna calls you, this may sound like brown nosing but have you ever considered writing a book about your life in and around poker. You'd have at least 10,000 sales from sky poker players alone, in my opinion as you're held in high esteem, i feel.

Something along the lines of Vicky Coren's would be a great way to do it as its one of my favourite books on poker long with the Big Deal which i read before i knew anything about poker. Each time you're knocked out of a tournament you could give a signed copy away a la Barry Greenstein! Get growing that beard.

Anyway, it was just a thought. Maybe, if you win the WSOP this year, you'll do it anyway, eh?

    Cheers
    Steve aka profman15

PS When you go to vegas this year go to see the Rat Pack show at ? on the strip( may be at the Rio). It's briill and the cast have had cosmetic surgery to look like Sammy Davis etc. a gret night and part of that balance i was talking about. You'd love it, i'm sure. I've got a photo with the cast if you wish to see it. All the best.

Do yourself a favour and check on the net for the best poker rooms so that the experience is as good as it can be.
The Monte Carlo has a gorgeous room well away from the noise with art on the walls and comfy chairs. I didn't get chance t play there but will when i go. Personally i thought Wynn's card room was classy and Caesar's a visual experience. Bellagio's is nice though when i went there was a big MTT on and people were crammed in like sardines. Not my idea of fun but i'll play there one day just to say i have.

Hope this helps...there's good stuff on the net detailing the tournaments and roms on the net. Have a look yourself and if you can't find it send me a mail nd i'll pass on a link. Cheers......
Just enjoy it mate ....its an experience....!!!

    Good Morning Mr Kendall,

Can you please tell me whether there is any kind of requirement in the UK for the numerical or monetary value of poker chips to conform to a particular colour?   Presumably the SPT has a standard format which is used in MTTs and the live TV cash games.

The Internet actually lists the dollar values and colours of chips up to $5000 but this seems to be arbitrary and at the discretion of casinos and TV channels.   Even in Nevada there is no Gaming Board requirement!

When I put the question to Anna and Ryan they suggested I ask TiKay!

    Hi Tikay,

I was going to reply in the thread but was unable to because it was closed. I just wanted to say how brilliant your reply was regarding the closure of 'the thread'.

I did really enjoy when Ed was on the show, but it's already been alluded to numerous times in the past that he will not be returning and that's fair enough, that's between you (Sky) and him. People do definitely need to get a bit of perspective.

You may very well already know this, but there's something called Godwin's Law where he basically said, the longer online discussions continue the closer the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hit ler approaches 1. And that given enough time, any online discussion, regardless of topic will inevitably resort to comparing someone's beliefs to those of Hit ler or Nazis.

Amazing how true this is (I've seen it dozens of times myself).

Mr. Kendall, I had hoped you would be able to address this on a live show but there is something of which I feel you need to be made aware:

Last Wednesday, while railing Mr. Orford in his timed tournament challenge, I noticed something quite disturbing. After working with you on the show for five years, RICHORFORD limped into a pot... I trust that now you have been made aware of this, you will take the appropriate remedial action forthwith.

I hope this news has not been too distressing.

    Thank you.

    Hi didalo,

Sky do NOT keep the money.

The Prize Pool (which, obviously, excludes the Reg Fee), is split into two parts - "Tournament Prize Pool" & "Head Prizes/Bounties".

Hope that helps, if unsure, ask again.

    Take care now.

ALL of the money - evey penny - is played to the players.

[QUOTE]Hi tikay what are the differences between a tight/aggressive player and A nit?
    Posted by wardy123

    Good morning wardy.

The correct answer to that is "it depends who used it, & to whom".

Poker players can be very fickle, especially when things don't go their way, so they get a bit sniffy sometimes when describing players as "nits", which has come to be a somewhat derogatory term.

Really, "tight aggressive" & "nit" are much the same thing. When players are describing themselves, they say "I'm tight aggressive", but when they are sounding off because they lost a hand, or can't get action from others on the table, the term becomes "nits"!

Please remember, there is NOTHING WRONG with "nitty play", everyone must play to their own strengths. As a general rule (general, not exclusive), "nits" rarely go broke, & tend to han around poker for a very long time, whilst, again as a general rule, loosey-gooseys tend to gamble more, & a lesser % stand the test of time.

And always remember, when a player complains that you are a nit, it is because it is against HIS interests, because he can't get you chips so easily.

Play you own game, enjoy it, & take no notice of whst people call you. You should see some of the names I get called!

I shall slap him round the chops when I see him!

To be fair, on SOME occasions, it IS correct to limp in, when you are setting up something, but because I preach that GENERALLY we should not limp, when I do it for a reason, the whole table get excited & shout "BUT YOU SAID NEVER LIMP, HA HA" rather like football supporters, for reasons which completely escape me, laugh when a member of the other team misses a shot at goal, or falls over. Nowt so strange as folk.....

Never one to miss a spam opportunity, we recently did a "Coach Kendall" Freeroll, in which there were 1,000 runners, with the winner getting a few little prizes, & this Sunday, I will be analysing his play on Live TV.

Well, news just in - Sky Poker will be repeating that Promotion in June. All aboard, woo-woo.

    What an interesting Post!

Peoole just don't think sometimes, & they lack the depth of thought to come up with a valid analogy, so they revert to the mean, & trot out these somewhat hyperbolic remarks. I should add that one of those who wrote something along those lines yesterday sent me a long note this morning, apologising profusely for his comments. He DID say I could reproduce his reply, but I won't, as he did not INTEND to so insult so many, it was just Godwin's Law at work.

Here is Godwin's Law for those unfmiliar with it.....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

    Note particularly.....

"....Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably criticizes some point made in the discussion by comparing it to beliefs held by (******)  and the Nazis......"

    ....and.....

"....For example, there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress. This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's law....."

    ....and.....

"....Godwin's law does not claim to articulate a fallacy; it is instead framed as a memetic tool to reduce the incidence of inappropriate hyperbolic comparisons. "Although deliberately framed as if it were a law of nature or of mathematics, its purpose has always been rhetorical and pedagogical: I wanted folks who glibly compared someone else to (******) or to Nazis to think a bit harder about the
    Holocaust," Godwin has written....."

Bravo to that final sentence. Many close friends of mine are Jewish, & I know how offensive they find such stuff.

Anyway.... I made the point I did yesterday with good reason, (note, yet again, "everything for a reason"....) because it would be really good if we could encourage people to think, & reflect, before they write or speak, & hopefully, come up with some original thinking. Thinking for ourselves, expressing ourselves better, instead of lazily following the crowd, is something I believe to be extremely important if we are to contribute usefully, rather than negatively, to society. It does mean that (from bitter personal experience) that we sometimes get mocked by the mob mentality, but that's a small price to pay for the ability & right to think & write independently, stuff which makes people think & reflect.

You may have also heard of another "pet" things of mine, called "GroupThink". It is incredibly powerful psychological force, & once you are aware of it, you can witness it at work in almost ANY Forum Thread, but more importantly, right across life, & society.

I can barely think of a more powerful & complete thing than "GroupThink". Learning to recognize it, & combat it, was something I learned back in the 80's (before it was recognized as such, oddly), when I went to America 3 years running as an overseas student at the American Management Association. (AMA). Chirp alert, I got "Best Graduate" three years on the bounce. ;)

Really, though, I did well at it because I have a huge interest in human psychology. It was that or EastEnders.....

     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupthink

Amazing what we can learn from a warm forum thread, eh?

Taking on board some wise words about a private apology not addressing a public mistake I would like to put on record an apology for my flippant remark about Nazism in relation to censorship  - it was tasteless and clearly offended people, which was far from my intention - if indeed I had an intention.  Hope
we can put this matter to rest, and indeed I have found the above post very informative.  I will pursue my battle for free speech elsewhere and in relation to matters that do not breach the law (privacy) which I understand to be the case in this instance.

You've clearly been on the wine Dave lol, despite that still a very true sentiment.

I hope my 'moaning' is not taken as being aimed at Tikay. I do hate to moan about Sky because they provide such a great service but I felt I had to voice my opinions on the closure of 30p DYMs. I know this is probably completely out of Tony's control and my comments were not at all aimed at him. It was more of a questioning, because I genuinely don't understand the up-side to this move when there is no lack of players at the micro levels.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but either way Tikay shouldn't be taking the flack for business decisions outside of his control.

    Hi Lloyd,

You are a big man, but thank you again. As I noted, I do not believe you INTENDED to hurt or insult anyone by your comments. Matter duly laid to rest, & thanks.

As for the "private apology" thing, I think we understand each other, & it's cool, I'm well used to it, & again, it is very gracious of you to Post as you have.

I think the whole episode has been useful actually, if it makes people stop 7 think before they write that sort of stuff. What's not to like?

I hope we bump into each other at an SPT or a Cardroom somewhere. It's good to chat, eh?

Take care Lloyd, & good luck at the tables.

    Evening Mr Lambert!

No worries bud, it'll all come out in the wash. I very much doubt that Hitman was digging at you, he's not like that, he's just a positive guy who tries & likes to see the good side of everything & everyone. I think he & I are long-lost brothers actually, & I love his infectious enthusiasm & positive attitude, I really do.

I've not seen your Posts about the 30p DYM's yet, or anyone's, but I hear there are some grumbles, & I can understand why, it's quite a complex equation Sky Poker are trying to figure in getting the right "balance" of Buy-Ins at different levels. I will take a look at your Posts on the matter, and the other ones, tomorrow, discuss them with the suits, & reply to you & everybody.

Please bear with me. I'm travelling up to Head Office first thing tomorrow (I'm in London, they are in Leeds) so I'll be heading north @ 5am, & I have Meets with the Team from 0930 until mid-afternoon. I also need my company laptop "cleansing" tomorrow, as apparantly it has a deep virus, so I MAY not be Online until Friday, but I will try & respond tomorrow, time & lappie permitting.

I'm sure it will be fine, & there will have been good reason for the change. Sadly, "good reasons" dont come in one size fits all.......;)

Bear with me please, I WILL field all the questions.

By the way, I'm happy to take flak for business decisions if the cap fits. We agree these things as a Team, & be it good or bad, we all get the same credit & blame. We are a Team, & one I'm very proud to be a junior & small part of.

All civil debate is good debate, I dont much respect the rude stuff, but that apart, always happy to discuss these things.

On every table, there's a little icon in the top right hand corner of the window that says Mini-View, just click on that. From the options menu you can also change various preferences and you can make it so that when tables load up, they automatically load in Mini-View (if you want that).
