I have only been on this site for a few weeks so im keeping my stakes low,i have been in a few cash games and some sit n go's plus the usual freerolls but my fav ones are the headhunters..anyway the last 3/4 days i have been doing really badly, not my game style or approach but the cards im dealt,i know folk go on about the randomness of the dealer ect but one small stake headhunter i played in was shocking,i had so many 5,2 ..8,3 ..10,4 off i was thinking i was stuck in groundhog day,i can honestly say in around 8 to 10 levels i had 3 maybe 4 TRUE PLAYABLE HANDS ie K,Q...medium pair,,i even took note on what the outcome would have been had i played the poorer hands and 90% of them would have failed to hit or i would have been tagged as a bad player..i did total bluff's for a few hands just to mix it up but i feel you can only do this for so long before getting caught....so my question for you is this is there a way to play when hands you are dealt smell like a navvies sock?..as at a few points with the blinds going up i was getting close to getting blinded out without really playing any challenging hands...i have been playing poker for around 7 years but only over the last 2years have i been using the online sites,on this note may i say if i was in the casino i would be having a few diplomatic words with my dealer or the poker room manager with the hands i was recieving,i am a fairly good live player and can read folk fairly well plus my win/loss ratio is good, but to just sit tight and hope a semi-decent hand will come seems a bit like playing bingo...thanks owls777

    Hi Rossy,

The finishing time is hard to predict, as we don't yet know the field size. The more runners, the later it may finish, & it is now looking like we will be north of 250 runners.

The structure is identical to the monthly (now fortnightly) DTD £300 Deepstack, which usually finishes at between 10pm & midnight, but that can vary too, as "business" is often agreed towards the end, which changes the play dynamic.

I will be very surprised indeed if it finishes before 10pm on the Sunday, & it may well run beyond midnight.

There is NO CHANCE of it finishing by 7pm or 8pm, no chance whatsoever.

Pretty good, actually. I bubble more than almost anyone I know, which can be viewed in a variety of ways. I'm going deep consistently, & that's exactly what my Tournament game plan is designed to do - keep going deep. As a result, I Bubble a lot, but I've never worried about that. Nobody who can afford to play poker can ever count themselves as unlucky.

    Not in the UK, no.

In several countries, including the US of A, yes, they are taxed on winnings in Live Poker. They are not taxed on Online winnings in the US of A because, effectively, Online Poker is outlawed in North America, & you cannot impose a legal tax on an illegal ctivity.

    Hi Mr Owl.

Sometimes, luck being what it is, we have to sit & endure long spells without playable hands. And that is where the real skill of poker comes into play. Players like Praz, Sam Trickett, Jake Cody, Lolufold, Scotty77 et al do not need playable hands - they find "spots", "positions", "situations".

In short, when you are not getting hands, you just have to dance a little.

Now, a question for you, given your name is "Owls".

Are you aware of the very specific method that the Burrowing Owl uses to feed? It's really quite extraordinary, & a very neat trick indeed. But not one that you or I would necessarily enjoy......

    Hiya Tikay

In light of the 35 suited saga, going on in the general chat, you say that "you don,t ever know of a self-exclusion  being overturned"

My question is - What if your girlfriend or wife pressed it when you nipped to the toilet or to make a brew etc etc as she was getting miffed that you were playing to much poker and not giving her enough attention.

Would it still be a no-no from Sky?

Ps - Ive posted it on here as I didn,t want to bring the topic back to the top of the forum as I think that thread has now run its course

Yes Rossy, I'll be playing the Friday evening £60 Freezeout. But don't blink, as I'll be playing it super-fast*, as I cannot afford to have a late night, as Saturday & Sunday will both be 16 hour days for me, & I struggle with these back to back long days lately.

    * Super-Fast, defined as at LEAST 2 hands per hour, & I might even call all-in with as little as K-K.

    Thanks Steve.

You won for 2 reasons, really.

It was one of those nights when you on almost all of your races, & you have an extremely good technical understanding of when, & how, to get your money in, in particular, almost never limping, but also great aggression mixed with positional sense. You also  seem to understand the maths of poker, as in knowing when you are "pot-stuck", & being able to make those very difficult marginal calls.

It was an absolute delight to watch, & to commentate upon. You will win plenty more, imo. If you were a racehorse, Timeform would rate you with a "P". They would also say "most impressive performance, front runner, led a long way out, came under pressure close home but rallied strongly, could stay further, will improve & win races at higher levels. One to follow. P. "

    23 heads, wow!

I am afraid not, plasma, all seats are now sold, & a capacity field of 250 is sold out. There IS a Live Super-Satellite at DTD at 9pm tonight, for which 10 seats are guaranteed, though - that's the way to get a seat!

Hi TK, hope you are well and running good. Any chance that you can help me out by recommending a book or two that you think are good for improving play in Omaha cash? Thanks in advance and hope you take down the Poker Awards.

Hi TK, posted the above a while back but seems to have passed you by.

Any chance of a response when you get a moment.

Also, any chance of you doing a blog rounding up what happened at the WPT London as I was enjoying them but they just stopped.

    All the best, Darn.

    Hi Darn,

Yes, I'm trying to catch up on this Thread, my apologies, & I'll try to answer your question properly on Monday or Tuesday. (I'm at DTD for the SPT Grand Final all weekend).

The final WPT Blog - ditto! I'll also be doing the same thing at the WSOP-E, & maybe the EPO, & EPT, too.

A good moment for me to apologise for getting behind with this thread, & with my PM's. I have 280 unanswered PM's, I try to do 10 or 20 per day, but sometimes they just come in too fast.

I particularly want to apologise to Direwolf, aka Guy, who sent me an urgent note weeks ago, & I "missed it", which caused some problems. I'm sorry, Guy.

It's hard to plan my days, because unexpected things go off all the time. This week has been very testing, as two things went off involving very loyal Sky Poker players, both friends really, & it's been a nightmare involving dozens of e-Mails & phone calls to sort out. These things are much easier to solve when kept low profile, they just are, but they still involve shed loads of work, & I enjoy doing it. But I don't enjoy getting behind, & letting folks down.

Today & yesterday, I've been inundated with people asking me to get them a SPT Grand Final Seat, which is quite frustrating, as they've been available for months, & now the thing is sold out!

    Such is life.

Anyway, thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain, & I hope you re both well, & dancing & golfing as much as ever.

Don't know how you cope, Tikay! I mentioned it in the 'Forum contributor of the year' thread. Anyway, enjoy your birthday and enjoy your weekend in Notts :-)

    E.

PS - no doubt one of those 9,000 PMs is from me so apologies! ;-)
