In Response to Re: Ramblings of an old man:
This forum is going a bit bonkers It used to be such a friendly place but now.... I've just returned and started to look at it again. A new poster puts up a hand and is immediately told very abruptly by a long time forum regular that it's in the wrong section The rewards thing? Players who play very little poker a month are now grumbling that they will play even less because they won't receive a couple of quid at the end of the month.  The software is terrible? Maybe I'm just lucky but rarely do I have any problems with disconnects and I average a few thousand points a month. I find the software perfectly fine. I think the lobby is far better than many other sites. The freerolls are terrible? This bit just staggers me. I saw a post from a player who said that the threshold was too high and he was now going to have to grind £2.50 worth of rake to get into them. I'm sorry but you're hardly a "grinder" if £2.50 is seemingly excessive. I saw the "Last Vegas" thread. So Sky unexpectedly put on a freeroll for a £3200 package and people are still bitchingg?Amazing! (Just one exclamation mark in this post Tikay) Sky have put on a number of freerolls for Vegas and received grief for it. With the satellites, everyone had a chance to qualify for a small outlay. I got there for £17. Staggers me that people have grumbled  about this. I think we've all been touched by Dales illness and I know everyone is desperate for him to get well. I was so disappointed to read the rows on a thread regarding the teams. Surely not important in the scheme of things guys. A "forum good guy" abuses a friend of mine at the table and then sends disgusting pms Can't we all just do nice? ... I get the irony of this post.

I know what you mean about the forum, although I think things are picking up from a low point a few months back. People dont react well to change - I try and add a bit of balance when I can when I see unjustified whingeing - I have decided to embrace the new rewards myself and see what happens. Some other issues - well, it's probably a case of less said soonest mended. However its not all bad.... e.g. You are back FCHD Vegas thread Rainman is on better shifts  Neil Channing is very visible on the forum (and some low stakes tables) Tikay's Vegas blogs (even the train ones) Benchmarks wit The dym challenge Lots of people winning Vegas packages and plenty more interesting diaries that I always read (and probably should interact more with) Shaki, Timmyrara, Lambert, Nuggy and not to forget the legendary BarryGuns. Missed a few out there too I reckon, Slip deliberately ;-). Given poker volume is down with the extended daylight hours and forums in general are not doing so well, I think there is still plenty of interest on this forum. Enough to keep checking in and posting.

    ...and another tremendously insightful post.

Some folks just moan, other folks do positive things. You are in the latter camp, loved the way you did the "well lets try embracing the new Rewards system". It sure ain't going away, as it is stunningly good, & doing exactly what it was designed to do, so moaning about it aint gonna cut any ice. Don't like it? Fine, make a constructive response.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is one of those saying that makes no sense, no sense at all.
You are a credit to this Community, Mr Phantom, a total credit.

Communities maintain themselves. Allow Team Moan to take over, & they die.

Making a little effort to be positive, think about others rather than ourselves, starting interesting new threads, being polite to others, that's how Communities survive.

If YOU owned Sky Poker, would YOU tolerate all the rudeness, the insults, & the bad manners on here?

It takes a little effort by all concerned, including that list of people you mention who work hard here, plus many more (GaryQQQ springs to mind). Just think of the work FCHD invests in the Community. Does he do it for money, or reward? Of course not. He's just doing his Community shift.

    Excellent Post Mr Phantom.

    <3 U Tikay

Not dismissing Pauls comments on a couple of nasty incidents - the derailed DTD thread really wound me up at the time.

Up to us to stay positive and set the right tone in our posts and threads.

Have a great time those of you lucky enough to be in MK this weekend. Now there's another very positive example of what this community does well.

    Morning

Just woken up after my first day in Vegas
Travelling here went really well. Plane arrived an hour early and was out of Mccarran within an hour. As a first timer here the heat is incredible. No matter how much you're made aware of it before you arrive, nothing can prepare you for it.

I managed to check in early at the Palazzo and the suite is fantastic. Against all advice I had a nap when I got here but fortunately still managed 5 hours last night as well. Need to try and get into a normal sleep routine now.

There was a Sky welcome party last night and I met up with everyone else. Did a cringey interview with Tikay where I don't think I was particularly coherent. Was tempted half way through it to just say "Fxxkk" really loudly so they'd have to bin it :)
Going over to the Rio today to reg for tomorrow. It will see weird for a low stakes player like me to hand over $1111 to enter a poker competition

Met up with a few people I already know and met some new people. Everyone seems really friendly. Dtm, Liam and Timmy have already been here a few days and seem to be having a great time. Think they're going to look after me a bit.
From what I can gather Dtm is getting confused with this one tabling lark and has taken to having 16 tabs open on his phone, getting massages and eating and drinking at the table to stay in his comfort zone.
Timmy is winning a bit and Liam is drinking a lot.

I decided against drinking much last night as I was absolutely knackered. Couldn't resist playing a bit of cash though. I really wanted to sample the atmosphere. The Sands room is pretty good. Had a fun table and had some interesting chats. Accused of being really aggro pre flop (I raised 6 limpers with AK twice in a couple of orbits). Nice old timer said I was just playing the 'European way'
Guy next to me said I was inflating the pot with less than a premium hand :)
A few hands later he limped along in a hand and then lost a $400 pot when he jammed the flop on A 9 3 and he was up against 9 3. He had AK :)

Was up around €140 but ended up standing with $45 profit. That'll do me for my first game

    Off for breakfast

Great read, have fun. Loved Tom's amazing story too.

Heat? What heat? My one and only visit to Vegas was in March two years ago. We arrived during a cold spell. All the mountains on the horizon were covered in snow. The Vegas locals were wrapped up in warm coats. When we visited the Grand Canyon people were enjoying snowball fights. I'm quite glad actually, I'm not very good once the thermometer goes above 25C.

Anyway, have a blast, Viva Las Vegas :)

    Day 2

    Well today was mostly awesome.

Got a bit of sleep and walked up and down the strip this morning. The Aria is pretty special.
Was a huge buzz going over to the Rio and regging for a WSOP event. I'm playing the afternoon flight. Railed the one drop for a bit when there were around 20 left. Felt a bit surreal to watch Helmuth, Coleman, Seidel etc. Apparently Helmuth had a rant just after we left. Pity, would have been fun to witness that.

Hung around the pool for a bit and then went for a nice meal with Timmy and then... I played some cash.

Worst session of the year unfortunately. I'm normally quite critical of myself but I was actually happy with how I played tonight. Last hand stung a bit but it was nothing that we haven't all seen before a million times.

I was down $440 and was thinking of leaving after having just lost another decent sized pot. I found QQ utg and made it $10 to go. Got 4 callers and saw a Q 6 2 flop with 2 hearts. BB led out for 30 and I decided to flat. Guy on my left raised to $80 and after the BB passed I put the rest in. Heart on turn and again on the river which gave me some hope as I had the Q of hearts. He flicked over AK hearts and that was that.
I started the hand with $240 so I'd have pretty much got out of it if I'd won that one.

A few things here are different to back home. Action folds round to the blinds and generally they just take their blinds back and we move on to the next hand.
Also players are pretty slow at turning over the best hand. There was a hand I wasn't involved in where on the river the first player showed  his hand which was top pair. The other player did a bit of sighing and then showed 2 pair. It just seems to be standard practise here and no one seems to mind too much. If I did that in my local casino I'm sure that someone would have a word with me. Take my last hand. The other guy turned the nuts. I always flick my cards over immediately when I do that. No need to give the other player an unnecessary sweat. I'm sure there's no malice in it but it can be a little annoying. Dealers don't seem to  have the control of tables here as much as at home.  A player on my left tonight was just throwing his cards and his chips  in haphazardly all the time. A number of times one of his cards turned and also his chips were actually hitting the dealer. Nothing was said.

Sounds like I'm moaning. Not really, just observations. Obviously not overjoyed at doing a couple of buyins tonight but still loving every minute of this. I happily trade in the beats tonight for a bit of rungood tomorrow.

It starts at 16.00 for me. Let's go!!

Enjoying reading the updates Jac - all the best in the tourni and hope you and the other forum regs have saved up enough rungood to have a shot at a decent cash!

    great write ups Paul

first i came up against the blind vs blind walk was in Macau.
"you want to chop the blinds?" asks the local in the sb
"no thank you" I reply thinking what a cheek
so he calls my raise and gets it all in on the turn with his 53o with a 5xy3 board
    moral of the story
don't call blind raises with 53o as I had 55

don't know what would happen in Vegas if you try that
    let us know

oh and glgl with day one (and hopefully many other days to come)

Best of luck mate and most of all enjoy it!!

The blind v blind thing in Vegas is a bit strange but I actually quite liked it. If felt like a bit of table etiquette when the usual position as you say is to slow roll etc.  I can imagine it does get abused from time to time though as there was the odd time people looked at their hand before agreeing to chop lol!
