    That's better!
Got all confused when I saw your gushing comments on the SPT thread.

All is well with the world again.
Get your haircut by the way

Massive congrats to you on your win yesterday mate.

It was a pleasure to share a table with you and you showed them all who the real Paul Jackson is lol!!!  You played some great disciplined poker and you deserved to go all the way.

I didn't realise this was your thread but I will read (and post) with interest from now on.

Hope to see you at the next one!

    ;-)

You're not actually THAT old. Yes, of course you're old, but I mean not that old. Keep digging the whole Perce. Nah I'm totally joking - you're not even old at all. In fact, I'd actually say you were quite young. Actually thinking about it, that would be a lie!

Many congratulations Paul, absolutely delighted for you, & commiserations to RogueCell, who so nearly became our first female winner since the very first SPT (or SPUKT as it was then) many moons ago.

I can confirm to those not present that "Ramblings of an "old" Man" is surely an ironic title - Paul does not look a day over 62.

    Well done Mr J.

    The age thing.
Just thought I should clarify something regarding the title of the thread. It was never my intention to mislead anyone in any way.
'Old' man, came about due to a couple of things that happened one day shortly before I started the thread,

I was watching a match on tv and a player my age (36) at the time was described as a veteran. Later that night I was at DTD and I made a call against a young lad, who clearly wasn't impressed. He said only someone old who didn't understand poker coud make the call.

    Hence the title.
    ............

Oh, I see no one has questioned the first part of the title!
I guess the 'rambling' bit was pretty accurate then!

Lost interest a bit in the Dym's at the moment. Playing really badly in them and so have started to dabble in cash a bit online.
It's not normally for me, prefer live, but have enjoyed it recently.

Play 10/20 and 15/30 and have turned over a small profit.
Pretty gross at one stage tonight where I turned a flush 3 out of 3 times in about 5 minutes. Had to throw 2 away and the one I called with k high flush, lost to DTM's straight flush. That guy always has it, one day I'll believe him. He owns me every time we're sat on the same table.

Had a decent pot at 15/30 against dohhhh where he was really unlucky that I had about the only hand that could call his shove on the river.
Played a hand with Rancid about as bad as it was possible to play it. Just flatted his 3 bet with QQ, first mistake, and then paid off his value bet on river, second mistake.

I should probably stick to live cash. I'm average at best against a lot of the regs on here.
Played a speed £2.20 rebuy which was fun. Came 5th for £27

Golf at Uttoxeter tomorrow. Been to range earlier tonight. Gonna take a lot of balls!

Great night watching Justin Rose win the Us Open. Held his nerve fantastically and stunning shot into 18.

Played my 3rd sat for DTD tonight and missed out again. Made a bad play when i shoved before i needed to, which was disappointing. Really hoping direct buy in will become available. Obviously i enjoyed the last one but it wasn't just that i had a result. The whole experience was brilliant and it was good to meet all the forum regs. I've got the bug now.

I normally have to work Saturdays and won't be able to make all of them. I'm on leave when Nottingham comes arounand it's only 30 mins away for me, so really want to play.

Irritated by a thread earlier criticising the show tonight.
Met Yiannis at Birmingham and he is a top bloke. He really wants to learn about poker and is really enthusiastic. He knows that he makes a few mistakes at the moment regarding things like poker lingo. But, so what? Only done a few shows, people should give him a chance first before coming to conclusions. (rant over)

Got to apologise to Liamboi. I just run ridiculously well against him. Had a pot earlier when i should never have been in the pot. Turned an up and down straight draw and flush draw and got there on the river. The river gave him a set of Kings and so he couldn't get away.

Booked go karting for my nephews birthday. He's keen, although i think i'm more excited than him. Really looking forward to it.

Had my usual pre season bet with a guy in the pub last night who is a Newcastle supporter. This time we're going for who will finish higher in our respective leagues. Surely not going to lose this one!

The old 'double float to try and take the guy off top set' move, when will I learn? :( haha.

In all fairness my line was pretty poor against any thinking player. I was rather tilted at that point in that particular session. I reviewed the whole session with a few friends on Saturday afternoon, and it was really really painful.

Sometimes the double float/jam the 'scare card' & try to blast people off the pot works, I suspect you've seen it all before though and weren't going to fall for that with a lot of holdings, especially as it was the backdoor flush that came in.

"ok so I floated the flop, and he hasn't slowed down. I should just fold now. But that would be boring".

    sighhh.

How do you win pots against liamboi btw? 3 yrs later and I still haven't managed to figure it out.

Hope to see you in more 30nl games! I want that buyin back! :D

yeah paul totally agree yiannis is a top bloke and people should give him a chance he wants to learn and improve his poker game overall, also want to make the shows enjoyable for us all but you are always going to get people that are never happy.

no need to apologise m8 i tried getting funky with my kk it backfired I really ain`t running as good as a have in the past really tilting at the moment everytime i get it in massively ahead i`m thinking how can i lose here and it comes lol bad way of thinking but it`s happening a lot last 7-8 days and DTM is crushing me i`m always 2nd best no matter what. I like the guy but just wish he did not sit any my tables for a few weeks lol.

also doh you used to own me in the past at 30nl mind that one hand we were 4/5betting pre flop and you called me off wae j high think it was and it was ahead of my 45 but i hit miracle 4 wow we both knew each other was at it I like games like that don`t get many games like that now.

but paul hope yer enjoying cash looks like you have been doing well keep it up m8

    Oh no!!!!

I read on AJ's diary next door that you had given some money away to 'bad regs'
Wondered if you had me in mind.
Confirmation - you would like me to join you again!

I feel like one of the tourists in Rounders :(

Yippee! Got my Hendon Mob flag sorted. They credited it to yet another Paul Jackson at first.

Not sure what to do tonight. Off tomorrow, so fancy some live poker.

Problems with this though are that the local casino has just lost the cardroom manager and the tourneys are dying.
Not sure if they're even running the cheap one tonight. This means that although cash will still run, it will have more competent players who have turned up specifically for that. This, rather than the players who like to play the cheapest tournament of the week with the worst structure but are happy to then join the cash table and lose a couple of hundred.

    Dtd closed

Alea Nottingham i went to the other week. Not keen at all. It was like going back in time to a cardroom where the regs ran it, rather than the staff. Swerving that.

This means that unless i come up with some new super duper plan (unlikely) i'll be helping create more seats for Nottingham again.
In a bit of a quandry regarding next SPT. I feel that with the higher buy in and capacity that direct buy in is quite likely. Determined to play and so will do this if i have to. While i feel like i have a reasonable chance of satting in, if i don't get in that way, it could end up costing me £300/400 for my seat. Makes me a little reluctant to play the £48 sats.
Not sure if that makes much sense.
