After the first few hands of heads-up, we're almost even after Reiss takes down a pot with middle pair over bottom pair on a KQ8 board.

Farber then takes a couple of small hands and leads 100m - 90m
  • edited November 2013
    Riess 4-bets J3 and gets Farber to lay down a K pre-flop - 95m each

Farber takes a hand with a 3m value bet holding K7 on flop of 7-6-5, turn 6, river 10, Riess had a 4

Flop of 2-6-A (2 hearts), Riess c-bet with Jacks, Farber lays down 10-9 (1 heart)

Riess is laying down complete air pre-flop a few times

    Farber 101m, Riess 89m
  • edited November 2013
Reiss leads an all clubs flop  (5-J-7) out of position with QcQd, Farber lays down A8 no clubs

Stacks more or less even again, Farber 3 bets to 6,2m, Reiss calls. Flop of J-2-7 (2 spades). Farber leads for 5.95m, gets Reiss to lay down KQ, Farber has A9,

Reiss rivers a 7-high straight but Farber had not much, value bet goes uncalled

Farber (unlike Reiss) is raising every button pre-flop, and continues on a 9-4-5 board. Reiss folds J-7 allowing Farber's 6-3 to take it uncontested. Farber leads 98m-92m

After a 2m raise pre, a c-bet and a 8.2m bet on the turn, Reiss check-calls. Board at this point is A-8-4-7. A second ace comes on the river, Reiss leads for 15m, Farber lays down 7-4 allowing Reiss to take with with an ace for rivererd trips. He now has the chip lead

  • edited November 2013
    Riess now leads 114m-76m

Farber raises pre-flop, Riess calls. Board of 9-2-10 (2 clubs). C-bet takes it down

They're stil playing very deep with over an hour of play before the blinds are due to go up

Riess is raising to 2.5m each time pre flop (when he does), Farber is only min-raising to 2m.

A board of 3-3-7 next hand sees a 3m bet from Reiss called, a 2 on the turn, Riess this time tries 5m, Farber check-raises to 13.4m. Riess thinks about it for a while then counts out calling chips and does call. River brings 9s. No flush out there. Farber looks down at his stack, bets 24.5m, "Riess the beast" thinks again, this time for over 3 minutes and starts talking trying to get a read off Farber, without much obvious success. Another 2 minutes of dwellage before Riess lays down Q-7. Farber has just a missed straight draw with 6-5. Farber regains a slight chip lead.

Next hand, raise and call pre-flop, check-check flop, small bet turn and check-check river on a double paired board, Riess hole card Ace is the best kicker to gain a few of the chips back

  • edited November 2013
Pre-flop Riess to 2.5m, Farber raises to 6.2m which takes it down. Farber tells Riess about the bluff on the big hand from a few minutes ago

A paired board of J-J-3 sees a bet and a call, turn is a second 3, Riess checks, Farber bets 3.3m, quickly called, river is a 10. This time Riess leads for 6m. Riess 6-5 takes it down as Farber quickly lays down the best hand (K-6)

Next hand has a wet board after the turn of 2-K-9-10 all red (2h 2d). River comes a third diamond, 3d. Farber bets and before dealer can count the bet Riess folds. Farber wins with a pair of 10s

  • edited November 2013
Missed action pre & on flop & turn on next hand but board was a King and 3 Jacks, A bet from Riess with pocket 4s and therefore a full house won without any resistance Riess leads 105-85m.

Riess now beginning to 3-bet virtually every Farber button, Faber plays back for 8.8m, Riess calls. Pot of 17.9m already, Flop come 4-8-3 rainbow. Riess checks, Farber bets 6.7m, Riess calls. Turn is a 2h - all 4 suits now represented. Riess checks again, big bet from Farber (13.6m), crowd reminds Riess of Farber's previous bluff on the other big pot. Riess calls. Pot is now nearly 60m and whoever wins will take the biggest lead seen so far. River is a 7. Riess checks again, checked back. Riess has Jacks, Farber A4. Riess now leads 134m-56m, gaining over 29m on that one hand.

An all diamond flop (A-5-9), small bet from Riess takes it down (neither had a diamond)

  • edited November 2013
Bet pre-flop and on the flop sees a turn of an A joining K-9-K. Bet and call on the turn, river of 3 sees check-check action where Farber has a rag ace to show Aces up for the relatively small pot.

Another paired flop (6-6-9) bet from Riess check-called, 5c on the turn, bigger bet from Riess (half pot, 5m) also called. River is 10d. Again Farber checks and Riess bets leading to rapid fold from Farber. Riess had flopped trip sixes

  • edited November 2013
No more walks pre-flop now. Riess still raising pre flop 2.5m Farber to 2m.

Standard pre-flop action on a Riess button, flop of 7-2-6 check-check. 4s on turn, Farber fires 3.1m raised back by Riess for 7.7m, quickly called. River is Ace of spades. Norman Chad fails to call it "the prettiest card in the deck", for the first time in WSOP coverage history. Farber checks, Riess bets 11.5m Farber lays down 98s, Riess was firing with 10-5 offsuit and now leads 145m-45m

Riess chips up to 150m after a small pot or two, now has a greater than 3-1 chip lead

The chant now from Riess' rail is "Endangered Species" referring to Farber's panda mascot

Action on the next hand as a board of 10-9-7 sees Farber bet, Riess raise to 6.6, Farber re-raise to 14.2m, Riess bets again, Farber goes all in and gets a call. Both show 10-8 for top pair and a straight draw with Farber free-rolling for running clubs. Turn is not a club and it is a chop.

Now Riess slows down pre-flopp raising to 2m instead of 2.5. Board is 5-8-2, 2.5m each go in on the flop. River is a 7, Farber checks Riess bets 4m, called. River another 7. Farber checks a third time, Riess gathers chips and bets 11.5m, Farber folds. Riess had trip sevens. He is certainly getting better cards so far in heads up

Farber beginning to get short. Next hand goes to the river 8-10-4-7-3, Ace high for Farber gets him 4.6 million profit in the hand to bring him back to 35m

All odd flop (7-5-3) on Riess' next button. Farber is checking a lot and letting Riess lead - same here. Turn is a 4 bringing 4 to a straight out there. Check-Check. River is another 3. Check-Check again, Farber shows 5-4 to take another small pot down.

Next hand sees Riess 3-bet pre to 5m, Farber 4-bets to 9.7m, Riess lays J2 down, Farber had pocket Kings but got relatively little value from them, but three hands in a row has enabled him to claw back some of the deficit

Hand 48 goes to a cheapish flop, J-10-8 rainbow. Farber as is his wont, checks, Riess follows siot, Turn is a scare looking Qc. Farber this time bets 3m, Riess calls. River 9c brings a straight on board. Farber checks, Riess bets representing a K (7m), Farber folds 2 pair face up, Riess did have the king so Farber did well not to call for the chop.

3-bet next hand from Riess again a 4-bet from Farber (as he did with Kings 2 hands ago) this time very slightly smaller to 9.5m.  5-bet from Riess to 17.5, Farber thinks for a little while then folds 5s (Riess had A-J). Esfandiari thinks Farber should have gone with that hand, as he put in a large propition of his diminishing stack (down to under 30m now)

2-Q-8 is the next flop. small bet from Riess meets with no resisitance. Lead is now 162m-28m. The pro is chipping away at the amateur bit by bit.

Farber raises pre to 2m, Riess 3-bets to 5m, takes it down. Farber now below 30BB, but one double up now would still make it interesting despite the 6-1 deficit.

2m from Riess, Farber to 5m (20% of his stack), Riess calls to see a flop. Flop is A-Q-K. Surely at least one of them has a piece of this, but it goes check-check. Turn of 5s. Farber leads 4m, called. River is a second King. Check from Farber, Riess checks back, Farber shows 9s, Riess an ace. Lead is now 174m-16m. Not long now to the next break, can't come quickly enough for Farber.

Farber getting close to shove-fold poker now, with the blinds going up in under 2 minutes,

Riess gets Queens, raise pre-flop takes it down.

Farber gives Riess a walk. Down to 14BB.

Riess raises to 2m, called. Flop of K-5-Q rainbow. Farber checks Riess goes for 2.5m, all in from Farber with J-10, called by Riess with K-10 . Top pair aginast up and down straight draw. Riess is 2-1 favourite. Turn card is one of Farber's 8 outs - the 9h. River is Qc so Farber survives and the "Combat Panda" doubles up to just over 28m. This is the end of the level so there will be a short break with blinds now going up to 600K/1,2m for the start of Level 40. They will also use the break to get rid of the 25K chips.

During the break, Phil Hellmuth is giving us his deep and meaningful take on events. Time to get a coffee.

First hand back, we see a flop of 5-10-2, small bet from Farber lets Riess fold

Next hand, again min-raise and call pre. flop of 8-6-J checked by both, 7s turn, Farber checks, Riess leads 3m, called by Farber. River is a 5. Check again by Farber with 4 to a straight on the board, Riess bets 5.5m, Farber lays down A-8. Riess had 4-3 for a rivered straight.

    Riess 155m-Farber 35m, still under 30BB

Another min-raise & call pre, board of 9-6-8. Farber is virtually checking every time when the action is on him out of position. Check-check, turn of 4h. Farber bet 3m,called, and we see a river of 2s. Check-check on the river, Farber wins with a pair of 4, Riess had 2 broadway cards.

Change of dealer, both players are beginning to get a little chatty.

We see a flop, K-3-2 two clubs, This time Riess checks the flop and Farber leads with a small bet of 2.8m which Riess calls. 9d on the turn, Check again from Riess, Farber bets a bigger bet, 6m which is a fair chunk of his stack. Riess calls. River is another 3 - a third club. Riess checks, Farber gets a stack of chips out, 13m - polarising his range. After some thought, Riess looks at his cards again and then pauses once more. Eventually grins, gets his bottle of water out, and calls. Farber takes it with a rivered flush, Riess shows just QJ. Farber now up to 65m

Another Riess button, 2.5 mill each sees us to a flop. 9-5-A. Farber of course checks. Riess bets 2.5m, Farber check raises to 7m which gets the job done. Momentum now with Farber?

  • edited November 2013
Raise pre-flop wins a hand for Riess, and he then 3-bets the next hand for 6.7m which also gets the job done. 67 hands heads-up played so far (last year it only took 17 hands after a marathon 3-handed session)

Next flop on a Riess button is all low (2-3-4). Farber leads out for a change with Q-7 and Riess folds 9-7

    Riess lead is 120m-70m

Two dull hands before a 3-bet/4-bet pot with Riess raising to 13.5m, Farber 8-5 down (Riess had Q-10). Last few pots have seen him pick up 8m of the chips he lost in the big pot before the break.

We see a flop of 8-6-J two diamonds, Riess check calls a bet of 3m. Ace of spades on the turn, this time a check raise from Riess, to 13m, trying to use his big stack to his advantage. Farber, for the first time, starts to dwell, but then lays it down. Riess had A-8 for 2 pair, Farber J-10 for one pair.

Next Farber button a 3-bet called to give a pot pre-flop of 12.8m. Board 2-8-A 2 hearts. Check check on the flop, turn is 3d. Riess leads 5m which is enough. Pocket Jacks against KJ. Farber's stack drifting downwads again now, just over 42m.

Riess button sees a cheap flop, two Aces and an 8. Farber check, Riess bet 3m. Check Raise from Farber to 7.5m, quickly called. Turn is an exciting second 8, Farber checks again with a big bet from Riess (10m) which gets Farber to fold. Another 10m or so from Farber's stack and he is looking vulnerable again

  • edited November 2013
Getting tired now, hope this is over soon.

3-bet from Riess to 6.2m 4-bet from Farber to 12.5, almost commiting him. He had A-9 but Riess only had 10-3 and folded.

Heads up now been going for over 3 hours.

Flop of 10-A-5, Riess checks, Farber c-bets 3m, called. 2d on the turn, Check-bet (6.6m)-call. River another 2. Riess checks a third time, Farber does likewise, Riess shows a 10 for second-pair win. Farber back down to 20BB or so.

Small pot pre & on flop see a 9 come on the turn to pair the board 3m each goes in, a river Ace. Farber checks, Riess is pushing home the chip advantage and bets 8m which is called. Riess had the 9 for trip 9s, Farber only had bottom pair and is looking vulnerable now.

  • edited November 2013
Farber gives a walk with 8-4 to lose another 800k of small blind + ante. and followed up by folding to a Riess raise pre-flop. Farber looking a beaten man, disinterested even.

Farber then goes all in pre with AK suited, Riess only had 9-7 and couldn't call to try and close it out.

Riess raises pre, Farber again goes all in and gets a fold.

Farber doesn't go for 3 in a row but gives a walk.

A showdown is coming soon, surely?

All in and a call, Riess has AK, Farber Q5, both suited - Farber in spades, Riess in hearts. Riess 65% favourite. Flop is 4-J-10, none of which is either spades or hearts. Gives Riess a gutshot and takes the Qs away from Farber's outs. Turn is a meaningless 3. Farber has just the 3 5's as outs - River is ...... 4d.

Ryan Riess is WSOP Main Event Champion!

    Time for bed said Zebedee...
