OFFICIAL TOTAL PLAYER THREAD

    Hi all.

I'm just back from Derbyshire  I had to go home after last night's Show - & I'm doing PTP tonight.

If you don't mind, I'll pick up on ALL the questions tomorrow (Monday)morning.

There are a few incorrect assumptions on the Thread, probably/possibly because my wording of the Boot Camp Format may not have been clear enough - I had to do it after the Show, & it was late.

I'll clear all these up in the morning.

    Thanks.

Hi, Just had quick read through the thread, thanks for everyone’s kind words and well done to the other players selected.  Also cheers for everyone who stuck up for me in all of that controversy!

I am a bit disappointed with the bankroll challenge.  I was hoping that we would get to play each other rather than just getting on the grind.  Is it possible to set up a total player cash table, SNG table where only the players selected can play, one for each mentor? enter all of us into the same MTT's?

Would I be able to issue a challenge to play anyone in the competition (1st person to accept) heads up £.25/.50 and £11 HU SNGS until one of us looses their total player £500 roll?  Therefor getting eliminated.  I want to get straight into this with a good start or die on my feet.  I’m useless at HU SNGS and my heads up cash isn’t great against good players but I find diving in to be the best way to learn and progress.  In my opinion 2 months isn’t long enough to prove “Longterm profitability” so I would prefer to get the cards in the air and let variance be.  Ok it wont be durrr vs. isildur but hopefully it would be fun to watch! lol

Or am I completely missing the point?  Will we get to compete in the later stages? Even if this can’t happen I am looking forward to getting on the grind and working on my game, especially hand analysis with Matt and the players selected. I have never really done any hand analysis so hopefully this can improve my game.  I will also try and post more on the forum if I’m welcome, I still owe a huge debt to you for all the great support I got in Vegas.

Good to hear from u m8.

From what I can gather, and i may be wrong, ed's team get to use their bankroll for the next 3 evenings, matt's the week after and david's the week after that.  Therefore, the only people who could take u up on ur challenge - even if allowed - would be the people in ur team as no one else has access to their TP accounts during that time.

Tikay will clear all confusion up tomorrow so we'll have to wait and see what the challenge entails.

Good luck with the whole competition,
    Phil

Correctamondo. I would advise waiting until then OR reading the Boot Camp Format I Posted last night carefully, & interpreting it as you see fit.

I can't reply properly right now, as I'm PTP-ing, sorry.

Alternatively, "Picks" should contact their Mentor.

    The questions......

I'll clarify a few things which have been asked several times, to save time.

Please note, these are clarifications only, they are just my intrerpretation of the Published Format. I am not part of the "Rules Committee", it's all outwith my remit, so I'm simply speaking as I see it. If you have any doubts, you should contact your Mentor.

    Playing Hours.

You may ONLY play on the TP Accounts in the specified hours & days - 7pm - 11pm Monday, Tursday & Wednesday, of your relevant week.

Of course, if you are in a Tourney or SNG which started within the specified hours, & it runs beyond 11pm, that's fine.

If you are playing Cash, you MUST stand up at the end of the Time Period.

    Multi-Tabling Cash Games.

Multi-Tabling is fine if you so wish.

Players must play a TOTAL of 3 hours on the 25p-50p Cash Tables, spread across the 3 days any way they wish.

6 Tables for 30 minutes each, 3 Tables for 1 hour each, (spread over the 3 days) etc, it is up to you. You just need to spend a gross aggregate time of 6 hours at the 25p-50p Cash Tables in total. You CAN play at higher Levels if you wish.

Losing your Bankroll during the Boot Camp Format.

If a Pick loses his or her entire Bankroll, this will NOT necessarily mean he or she is eliminated. Equally, the Pick who wins most will not necessarily be selected for the next Phase. It is NOT a Bankroll Challenge, it just happens that part of this phase involves a bankroll. The Mentors will be looking much wider than Bankroll, which is, of course, subject to short-term positive or negative Variance.
  • edited January 2010

PokerBCity asked if he could issue a challenge to the other Mentor Picks, to "cut to the chase" so to speak.

I think he should discuss that with his mentor, personally.

If he wishes to do it that way, (within the specified criteria as to playing hours & days etc) that's entirely up to him, but the result of it may not necessarily have any bearing on the Mentor's judgement & decision. The Picks have been given a brief on what they should play, & if I were their Mentor (I'm not!) I'd advise them to stick to the specified format.

I'll pick up on Will's other questions seperately.
  • edited January 2010

I'll work through the other stuff now, but if any of TONIGHT'S players need questions answering or points clarifying, please ask immediately, as they are obviously time-sensitive.

Some questions were Posted on another Thread. All questions & answers should be on this Thread, please, so everyone has the same info available to them. I'll try & answer those other thread questions, but it will be on this Thread.
  • edited January 2010

Anyone is welcome, encouraged even, to Rail the TP guys when they are doing their stuff.

The TP spirit has come together beautifully the last few weeks, & it will help the players if they feel the Sky Poker Community spirit behind them.

If the players do not respond to chat, please understand that they are under some pressure to perform, & they may not want to chat. They will also, I imagine, be engaging in dialogue with their Mentors duiring the Evenings as they play.

It'd be great to see the players encouraged to do well.

Welcome to the site and congrats for making the short-list on TP.  It's more than most players (myself included) managed so very well done.

In answer to your question, go to 'The Shed' area of the forum and all the instructions you need are in a post with a sticky on it called 'Cartoonize Yourself.'

    See you at the tables

In the real world, no. But as someone said, those are the Rules, it's the same for everyone, & I'm sure the Mentors will make due allowance.

If the Bankroll was, say, £1,000, it makes the potential cost to Sky Poker a bit prohibitive, & if too much gets spent at this end of Total Player, less would be available at the Prize end.

Hopefully, most of the players will turn a profit - which they get to keep.

    Hi Will,

I've answered the main thrust of your question already.

"....If you are welcome here...."? I'm sure you will always be welcome here, you have a legion of admirers, afte your Vegas exploits in consercutive years.

You were hoping the TP-ers would get to play each other? Maybe they will, at a later stage.......

    Good Luck with it, Will.

In Response to Re: OFFICIAL TOTAL PLAYER THREAD:
Hi everyone, I'm Michael Kane ("not a lot of people know that", I know :P) [AKA "Style 2737"] This is my first post on any of the forums! Congratulations to "Dohhhhhhh", "Keysersozi" and "Dylan12" You must be buzzing right now! I was a bit disappointed to get into David's top 10 and narrowly miss out on the top 3 but it was exciting to watch the show all the same.  Good luck to all 18 players! I wish I'd known about total player earlier as I've only started playing on sky again over the last couple of weeks and so the only show I could have possibly featured in was tonight's.  Needless to say, the show is really exciting and a credit to the innovators at Sky as the clear hype surrounding it is due to the format of the competition.  Compared to many of the other sponsorship deals available on other online sites (participation in qualification tournaments), this competition is far superior as the weekly format creates excitement for everyone involved!  It is also ideal for identifying consistently good players which removes the luck which is inherent in an individual tournament.  How will the "wild card" concept Richard referred to work as I don't know much about it?  Is it possible that any mentor could drop a player and replace him/her with any of the top 42 short-listed players? (i.e. top 10 players from the weekly episodes who have missed out.  I appreciate that this number may be less than 42 as some players who ultimately got picked could have been in the top ten previously). Additionally, I stress that I do not have sour grapes but I have to say that on the evidence I seen tonight I genuinely believe that David Tuckman made a mistake as I think I'm a better player than "Dylan12".  Although I suppose 1 hand is not enough evidence to go on and maybe Dylan12 showed more promise than myself in his other selected hands.   As to the other 2 selections, I don't have any issues there though I don't necessarily feel that they are better than me. Finally, I'd just like to commend Sky Poker and its excellent team.  I've played on a few online sites and I'm glad I randomly found Sky poker on the TV just over a year ago.  It is by far the best site I've played on! Further, I have also learned and improved my game considerably simply from listening to experienced players such as "Tikay" and James (Horton I think??) analyse hands.  I would encourage any aspiring top player to watch channel 865, even just for 30 mins here and there.  I have never been one to spend much time following professional poker players or watching poker on TV but Sky's coverage and team of analysts can undoubtedly enhance anyone's game. I'd also like to add that I never realised how tight a playing community there was on sky poker.  I only just looked at the forums and blogs last night.  I am happy to be part of it and I hope I can contribute.  I am really looking forward to the SPT Glasgow leg at the Alea which is an excellent casino and my usual venue for playing anyway.  I hope to see some of you there in May and hopefully at Nottingham in September.  I'm hoping to be doing post graduate study in New York next year but I'll come back for Nottingham if I make it, lol!   Does anyone know how to make your avatar a cartoon version of yourself?  Is this possible as I think I've seen a few people such as "Dohhhhhhh" with this? Anyway, Good luck to all and I'll see you at the tables!  Better get back to the studying now!  Sorry for rambling on so much!!!! Michael

Hey Dylan, well done on getting picked, bet ur heart was racing in that last 5 mins of the show right? I was nominated on week 2 but didnt make it, it was boxing day when the show was aired, and having checked the forum at 3am when I got in, I knew before watching the repeat of the show that I wasnt selected. This time watching it live, wow was amazing, just the sort of buzz u get from actually playing poker, even bigger in fact. Anyway Phil thats a gd question about the time periods...I hope my computer doesnt let me down, Im gunna have to play at least 2 tables at once, and sometimes my comp doesnt even allow me to do that.....10 sngs will take at least 4 hours wont it/ alongside hopefully going deep in the main event....Then theres the cash to get in, agh Im glad we're the third week and not the first - see how the others go.lol The way I read it last night we are free to play all day everyday, but having read over it again, it looks like only the 12 hours of play spread across the 3 days. Guna have to get some SNG practise in over the next week or so! DOHH
    Posted by DOHHHHHHH
    Yo Dohx7,

Yes, the play has to be within the specified time-windows.

You can only play 1 Table at a time? May I ask what browser you are using? Even my old steam-driven Lappie (which died a few weeks ago as it happens, RIP,) could 2 & 3 Table comfortably. I use Firefox, close all the Tabs, & most important of all, I do NOT have the Lobby open. Give it a try this week & next week, before it's time-sensitive, it might solve the problem.
