That was a tough week, Tom, & I completely get that bit where you were trying to diffuse a Forum situation.
As you & I both know, neither of the two posters were anything except well-intentioned, but sometimes, well-meaning stuff does not come across as intended.
Those that read between the lines well enough will have noted that "loss of self-dignity" thing, which you have mentioned time & time again. To my mind, that must be, in some ways, more painful, & difficult to bear, than your medical conditions. Discussing some of these matters with, say, a young female GP's Receptionist, must be really uncomfortable. If I were requested to, say, "bring a sample in", & then pass it to the Receptionist, I'd find the whole process dreadful.
It's these sort of things which must be so difficult for you. I'm quite sure I could not cope with all that.
Re:washer - It wont be long before they don't even come out and do a diagnostic. They will check it remotely via the internet and if the "computer says no" probably wont send anyone to fix it.
p.s. maybe report the care home?

I was actually replying to a post from a long time friend of mine, who has MS, & can no longer walk. Back in the day he was a tidy poker player, look him up - Mark Herron - but now he can't get about without a mobility scooter. Never, never once, is he anything but cheerful & upbeat. I don't see him often these days, he could not even manage Vegas last year. Does not stop his cheerful countenance though.
I mentioned a guy named "Iron" (short for "Ironside) too, real name Alastair. Another ever cheerful never moan sort.
Lives in Elgin, up near Inverness, & used to regularly play THREE rounds of golf every day. Joined the Navy, had an accident at sea & broke his back. BOOM, game over.
He regained a little lower limb mobility, & tried to resume a normal life. Went to the wedding of his best mate, some sky-larking went off & he got knocked down a set of stairs by some drunkards. BOOM. Back proper broken, spine damage, wheelchair for the rest of his life & more assorted illnesses than you could imagine, spends half his life in hossie.
I mentioned Steve - Ice-Tiger, too. What an inspiration he is.
I think of these guys every day, when I open the Forum & see moaning about the teeny weeniest of irritations & inconveniences, & it's hard to bite my lip sometimes.
My young lady has taken up jogging, & she does these 5k & 10k "Organised Runs". She's woefully slow, but it does not matter, she's trying her hardest & doing something healthy.
We went to the "Winter Run", in aid of cancer charities a few weeks ago. (I'm her "corner man").

Picture the scene, early February in London @ 9am in Trafalger Square. Low grey skies, freezing cold, heavy drizzle, & we had to arrive at 9am for a 10.15 start. There were 12,000 (TWELVE THOUSAND) of us in Trafalger Square. "Portaloos" had been provided, & the queues were 200 yards long.
The race was run with the "rail" of cheering spectators cheering on EVERY runner. At the Finish Line, old & young, fat & thin, abled & disabled, gasped, wheezed & panted as they crossed the line exhausted, wet through. But happy, & smiling.
I never heard one moan or groan all day, & everyone was smiley-wiley & helping each other. It was very moving, to be honest.
We got the train back home as happy as Larry, I just thought wow, the world ain't such a bad place, is it, some grand folks around, taking life in their stride.
And then I made a BIG mistake. I opened the Forum, logged in, to see if everything was OK. Bad decision, that, it was Freeroll Chunter day.
Funny old game.
Keep posting Tom, you never know, it might inspire just ONE person to battle on. You could save a life, how good would that be?
And yes, I'm very proud of Gill. To be honest, she's woefully slow in these runs, & will always be. But it's a healthy pursuit, & an achievement to even try to run one. She trains every night, & has done 4 organized runs now - Bushy Park, Richmond, Osterley, & Central London - & I buy her a little trophy for each one, get it engraved & everything.
She's down for the weekend this weekend, & left here at 10am this morning for an 11 mile jog. 11 miles, sheesh. She'd never jogged or run anywhere until last June. She had spent 10 days with me in Vegas, we'd gone across to the California coast & got engaged, happiest day ever. When she came home, 3 weeks before I was due to return, she felt a bit lost, she needed to do something, as, bizarrely, she was missing me, & due to time difference & workload, we could not chat every night as we normally do. So she took up jogging.
