Just read your post now Phantom...haha I totally forgot about those betting patterns! Run good mate, your a gent and great player too. Ger Posted by gerardirl
I'll take the gent but I know the great player is just a bluff to keep me donating to your dym challenge cause.
Well the BH main came to nowt or £-5.50 to be precise as entered the mini just in case.
Busted main with a poor call - had dwindled chips playing a few too many marginals too strongly and missing everything and then either running into hands or getting pushed off pots too easily.
Hit AA and AKs in consecutive UTG+1, UTG hands but only got minimal action for a small recovery before the rot set back in.
Down to £2k ish and manage to get a turn all-in air bluff through and then a few hands later called a shove on a AsJs8sx board with KQs. Their A9 meant I was drawing only to spades and tens the 9 was gn gg. Opponent had been very active and hitting everything and also shown bluffs but probably still the wrong spot.
Mini was just a standard AQ < AK (well not so standard deep enough not to have called my stack off with AQ just wasn't feeling it tonight.
1st hand of the night was AQ too - on the button - UTG+1 minraises I 3bet around pot and they jam on me.Maybe if I had gambled there things could have been different but I figures as this was a main and not a 2.30 speed BH I was unlikely to be in good shape and wished I had called with position and not left myself open.
Jumped back on a spinup table to claw myself back over the £200 mark which had been achieved earlier in the day so all is not bad (unless you are an aussie cricket fan)
Spinup results so far... spinup P/L sessions wins % avg p/l bi/sess 10nl -£2.61 4 2 50.0% -£0.65 -0.65 20nl £69.14 34 23 67.6% £2.03 1.02 50nl £36.81 7 7 100.0% £5.26 1.05 £103.34 Going at over a buy-in/session which I am very happy with - usually short sessions too 10-20 mins must be the norm. Keep it quiet though dont want anyone decent pitching up and spoiling the fun. Posted by Phantom66
Good stuff. I wish I could get a 100% winning run over 7 sessions at any form of this game
Hi Mumsie, thought as much I did say nh after your AK > my AT and knew you would have responded if able.
Hi Shaki the run has ended. Won 8th then hit my 1st bad session at 50nl down just under £30 which is naughty as I am supposed to sticking to a 5BI stop loss. Some bad beats which are inevitable especially when in 60/40 ahead alot its easy to face a run of 40's winning. Also took a big dint with a set losing to flush post flop.
The 20nl session at lunch was tough too, 1st losing session there for a while (stopped a run of 10 wins actually).
So dipped well back below the £200.
Took a break and came back and made some ground back up.
This happened which was nice, kind of killed the action on the table though...
Well for the first time since this challenge began I dodnt earn my £2.30 reward, that's because I smashed the 500pts barrier so I'll be getting over £6 (plus the FRs of course).
I didnt win anything from a FR this week but did profit at the tables. It seeems I have been getting some stick since the Phantom fund outgrew the Mrs P fund (when I started I honestly thought the Mrs P fund would be the greater of the 2). So I have decided to merge the 2 into a Phantom family fun fund, or Phantom FFF for short (full name too long for my spreadhseet celll).
The Phantom FFF now stands at £129.72 of profit since the beginning (ie balance is £179.72).
I logged in Sunday just after 10pm. I certainly wasnt thinking about points as I knew I had got my 100 for £2.30 in the bag and was well short of 500 pts and the next rewards "ladder". I regged for a PLO8 dym and just after it started up popped the notice about rewards. I had totally missed this was on and handn't been thinking about the new month at all.
I had around 370 points and figured with 2 hours of x3 and x4 cash I should be able to reach 500 and went for it. Opened 2 spinup tables. Playing spinup cash and PLO8 dyms at the same time isn't recommended, luckily the PlO8 table played out pretty straight forwardly with an early bust out by one closely followed by another and a double up scoop for me with a FH+2nd nut low on a low straighty/flushy board. The bubble went on a bit but no dramas. In this time though I was in a bit of a hole on the cash, things started to turn around and I opened a 3rd spinup and the points were racking up thick and fast. Managed to get over 600 before winding down just before midnight. Didnt make a note of the final tally but will be getting that paid today (not including in above figure).
All in all was down a couple of quid on the session so the extra rewards mean a small profit overall on that sesson (I feel like a proper cash 4 points grinder now).
Looking back I had a leak on the 2 tables early on. With multitabling (and formatting) I hadnt been paying as much attention as I should to the table. The 20nl table was way nittier than normal and I didnt adjust. I wont go into my ranges in detail but in general spinup play at 10bb A5s goes in if 1st to shove - no question. Howver this table the lower end of my range was getting swamped - only getting called by big aces and mid-high pairs and I didnt adjust quickly enough. It was nitty enough that min and x3 raises were getting through so I mixed them in with shoves and recovered.
Had a brutal run on the 50nl table, it seemed every time I got it in with a dominating hand the free card was hitting, and post flop shoves were getting outdrawn all too regularly by flush and straight draws and low pairs tripping. Still it's a high variance game and those runs happen.
Another leak I spotted in myself on a couple of spots this week was not standing when the table stacks are not in your favour. Obviosuly I wouldnt chose to with huge stacks to my left - at 10bb you just haven't got the time to wait for a good double up opportunity. But I wasnt standing when the table got like that and that cost me one big losing session at least.
Had a couple more comedy misclicks which I'll post if I can find them in the Hand History.
Sure it wasnt funny for the opponent - this was another hand where I was intending to check the sit out next BB box and the betting buttons popped up at the wrong (turns out to be right) time. Suited twos are clearly the nuts.
I cant find the other one, I had got myself into a spot of bother with an accidental raise pre with T2 suited. By the turn I had nothing and figured the only way to win the hand was to bluff so I shoved.
I was called and was amazed to find myself ahead of a 56 that I dont think even had a gutshot. My T high survived the sweat on the river.

Im curious, do you pay rake on the returned unmatched bet amount, im suspicious that you dont.

Cant see how you would pay rake on an unmatched bet? If you do #sortitoutsky
However too early in the week to sit down and work it out - never really understood rake on cash - at least it's all transparent in my usual SNGs. Perhaps I should take note now that I am becoming a cash grinder?

I worked it out and looked it up.
. 5% rake was taken on the matched money only. The maximum rake with 2 players would have been £1.00

cheers. Well seeing I am used to 10% rake on SNGs that seems good to me, although the regs do complain a lot about rake.
AJS also seems to think the spinup game is unbeatable with this rake.
The difference is SnG rake is taken once per game, cash rake is take from near enough 100% of hands ^ so it's hard to just say 5% is less than 10% so it's good. The unmatched bet thing, it would be pretty insane for Sky to charge rake on that as that money isn't even in the pot.

SNG v Cash rake- Apples and oranges (or is it pears) I suppose. With SNGs everyone pays for entry whether you win or lose - Cash you only pay on hand winnings (post flop) so yes more likely to pay more for a fixed unit of time at comparable stakes but then the more you pay the more profit you are making I suppose as long you are beating the game overall by more than the rake.
Early days on my latest flirtation with cash - started better than any previous attempt though.
Hit some downswing on the spinups, inevitable, but couldnt win an all-in for a run on the 50nls and knocking them on the head for now. Havent got the roll - need to be able to sustain a few x5BI losses and I wouldnt be able to.
Back on the 20nl had built up to over x6BIs then one swing hand could have made my day but broke it.
edit:probably makes more sense if I add that the flop was Ax3 with 2 clubs
One of the 2 stacks that has me covered open limps, I raise from the button with 33 sb calls and utg call.
sb checks big stack bets I reraise all-in and get x2 callers, both on the flush draw which hits on the river #sigh not to be today.
Seems I have already made over 100pts this week, so with a cash accelerator on Saturday and x2SNGs all weekend I should definitely make 500 and seeing how it goes I may even take on 1000.

It's pairs apparently.
Always a good read Phantom, all the best at the tables.
Clocked up another £3 from a rewards FR yesterday. Was comfortably above avg stack for most of the game until the blinds started to bite and on about avg @10BB. Shoved 44 into AQ for a big loss and then gg gn shortly after on another flip.
Saw a couple of familiar names at tables but unfortunately I was on phone so no chat.
I saw that Tikay notes profit/game - so I thought I would tweak my spreadsheet and see what does it best for me.
Turns out I need to concentrate on PLO dyms as the £3.30 variety is worth £2.70 a game!
Ok so some of you nit-picky statistical maths genii may disagree based on the sample size of 1 but if I ever see another one regging I am going for it.
More generally the best game I have played more than 10 of on this challenge is £1 6max SNGs which are coming it at £1.09/game pretty handy that. Sustainable I doubt it but I reckon on those I can avg over 50p/game on a long run.
Felt a bit of a degen today. Was in "town" (Preston is actually a city and has been since 2002 but still cant get used to saying city and preston in the same sentence. Hopefully next year it will be a Premiership fixture
Anyway had half an hour to kill after dropping an item in a jewellers and being asked to leave it with them for 30 mins (bad planning making that the last stop). So I drop in for a frappe latte and while on my smartphone in my leather chair I decide to pop up a spin up table on my phone to try and make it a free one. Ran golden to be fair and so Boom £12 up when finished.
Now the only other time I have played poker in a public place was when Mrs P was poorly in hospital in Leeds and I started a little diary challenge based on SNGs as a bit of a release from the many stresses of the days. At least one person must have liked the diary or felt sorry for me because I was granted a free seat in a monthly 6max put on for forum contributors. Only trouble was I was visiting Mrs P and on my way back on the M62 when it started.
Nothing for it but to stop off at a motorway services, buy a coffee and play on my laptop via the wifi.
I suppose with smartphones playing in public is a lot easier although it's not something I plan to make a habit of.
Another £4 in the FR today which means I have taken £13.05 already in rewards this week.
Overall though still down for the week - but time to recover and those lovely points for the weekend.
I am really enjoying my poker at the moment. Also mixing up my games so it doesnt feel like a grind - try not to do that within the same session though it rarely ends well.
Last night I decided to treat myself to some PLO8 thursday league action. I dont play it often and usually due to timing and B/R I don't play more than 2 tourneys which of course limits the chances considerably for a league prize.
So I entered the £5 last night and the later £2 and £1 games. £2 and £1 finished middling but FT'd the £5.
With 10 min blinds there was still plenty of play left and only top 3 paid. Get to 4 handed with roughly equal stack for 3 of us and a chipped up Suzy666 who has been bossing the league of late.
Very long bubble - in the end took on Suzy playing back from BB to her SB raise. Wont go into details as I think I'lll post that in the clinic. Chips were in good pre - playing for the lo only after the flop and gg gn when it didn't come.
After a long and worthy battle kind of miffed that there was no ul/gg in the chat. Maybe they all had chat off. Didn't "know" any of the other 3 so cant say if it was out of character.
Today started well with a couple of mini spinup cash sessions - the chat got a bit abusive so I commented politely and it stopped on both tables - would have reported if it hadnt.
Short break now and I'll be filling my boots on double points for a couple of hours this afternoon and then this evening all being well.
Points chasing. Happy in a way that I met a target I set of 1000 pts with all the extra promotions on for SNGs and cash seemed a good time to go for it. Hopefully contribute something to Saints premiership promotion too.
edit:Saints are getting crushed so no joy there
However didn't follow my good advice on the points should not get in the way of good BRM etc.
For most of the past 2 weeks my BR has been hovering between 200 and 150. For most of the promotion over the weekend it has really steady between 180 and 160. Then one bad session on Sunday and it was oops down /> £50 and only getting a quarter of that back in c4p.
For all the talk about spinups being unbeatable I have got to say that turbo dyms must be more so. 10% rake and very quick games with s/stack. I knew they would be high variance so took a risk and it didn't pay off.
Couple of mini sessions were my own doing though - one were I rushed to load 3 tables straight away instead of playing my way in and lost all 3 spending the rest of then night getting it back. The second was on sunday when I was tired and not playing right. One time I seemed to just drift off not concentrating for a couple of mins and had almost blinded out on 2 tables. Variance was against probably more on balance than it was for, but 5 games there were entirely my own doing.
So the recovery starts today!
No £5 entries for a while and back to the more modest target of 100 pts to get the £2.30 and stay qualified for any premiership rewards.

I was mooching about last night and saw someone sat at the £1/£2 SU table with almost 900 quid.....quite the spin up from a crisp £20 note.
I have got into the £30's a few times and either stood or took a dent first.
