ORFORD'S BANKROLL CHALLENGE

  • edited May 2010

.......When playing on your 2nd life, the first £20 is deducted from the end monthly total.

DOHHHH loses £20 in one night, tries again, turns his second £20 into £1000 by the end of the month.

    Net score £980 :)

In Response to Re: ORFORD'S MAY BANKROLL CHALLENGE TO BECOME A JUNE BANKROLL CHALLENGE! PLEASE READ AMENDED OPENING POST AND ADD YOUR SUGGESTIONS HERE PLEASE! : Good points Dyl- so what do you suggest then? That everyone starts with £50? £80? Can we not do level 1 with a  short roll just to make sure everyone can start the same, but from then on, every level above that is properly done? In an ideal world, we'd all start with a tenner and play the 0.25/0.5p tables, but they don't exist!
    Posted by RICHORFORD
TBH it is impossible to do this correctly because you want this challenge to be accesible to all, as it should be, the only thing I am trying to point out that sometimes shortcuts get you into trouble an imo beginning with £20 will just get the wrong mentality within players. More people will fail than suceed imo due to the fact it only takes 1 cooler to lose a BI and then if your running bad a few more will go and then you begin to chase which inevitably leads to failure. OFC some will run like gods, naming no names - Ozzie08 ;), and double up quickly. In an ideal world when doing these challenges you should only play with 5% of your BR on the table but that would mean a starting BR of £80 which would ofc discriminate against some players. As I say there is no possibility to please everyone in this and I seriously don't want people think that I am negative about this concept because I am not but I believe some players may run good in this and pick up bad BR management that is all. Gl in this challenge all that try in it and I hope everyone suceeds :)

How about £20 - but 2 lives? Like an optional 'rebuy' - Just like what you've been doing all this month! lol Means everyone starts even, but if u have a bad night, u can try again tomorra! Sorry about sending in that email criticising someone's play last night, I'd had a few, and he knocked out my tip to win it ! Put you in an awkward spot tho reading it out live haha! Wont do it again!!
    Posted by DOHHHHHHH
So you may as well start with £40 then m8. But surely the concept of being able to rebuy this is not good BR management - and you should know being a BR nit these days :)

As for the comment on the thread last night, you just wrote down what a lot of people though, nothing wrong with that m8 :)

With your track record in these things Rich I think the more BR there is to begin with the more chance you will have to survive - surely £10 will only last you an hour max ;) he he

This is agood idea to have levels but can't imagine some of the top players wanting to waste time on 2/4 tbls, i might be wrong but i'll be in whatever.

When the Total Player was on, we had to play for certain hours on certain days. How about we all do the 2p/4p challenge but only for 1 or 2 hours at a time? We post on forum when we're sitting at a table and when we are leaving. That way, players can still play their usual games as well as the fun of the br challenge. That way, we all have 2 challenges - Rich's bankroll challenge and our normal games.

OK- how about "One month to go up one level?"

It doesn't matter how much you start with- you pick a level and you're not allowed to leave it until you've got your bankroll up to 2000 BBs of the next level.

    eg. start with £80

you decide to go on the 2p/4p tables but can only move up to 4p/8p when you have £160

    or

if you cant afford £80 you can start with say, £10 and still go on the 2p/4p tables- it just makes it much harder, that's all- because you STILL have to get to £160 to finish the challenge.

Alterntiavely you might hae for example £80 but opt instead to play short-rolled on the 4p/8p tables- but now you have to get your roll up to £200 to win the challenge, because that's how muhc you need to qualify for the 5p/10p tables.

So, we're still encouraging good bankroll management becuase you should really try and play wiht the correct starting bankroll for the level i.e 2000 Big Blinds (and you're 'punished'' for not doing so because the challenge is so much more difficult)
BUT- we're not excluding anyone- as all can join in with whatever they can afford.

And of course- we're still maintaining good bankroll discipline by not coming off our level until we have the proper roll to move up.

Oh and the big money players simply choose a higher level eg £1.50/£3 to get to £2/£4

    So.... ONE MONTH- ONE LEVEL

And then it's just a race- as soon as you've done it- you chirp about it on the thread and then you're done!

We'll have a list of those who've done it and a list of those who haven't yet to keep us motivated.

Lose the first one- reload and try again. Keep going until you've completed the challenge, no matter what the level or how many times you attempt it.

Make sense? What do we all think?

Wow- that was a long post!

Incidentally, I'm currently playing on Table Legnica 15p/30p if you fancy dropping in for a chinwag or game.

Up £6.20 on the session at the mo, taking my total on my second BR challenge to £120.

    So 20% ROI!*

*(Please note the value of your investment can go down as well as up. In my case, a bit too easily....)

Oi! some of us are only just starting out! I don't want to potentially lose the bankroll I've (painfully) managed to build up!

Then again I like a challenge. Bring it on! You won't belive some of the moves people do down here in the trenches!

WD Machka, pleased for you m8 afta all the work you put in for this challenge and pmsl at VT. I lost a few 5.50 buy ins for mtt but won a few small sng and a couple £ at micro cash so WHOO HOO up £4.75 since last report and br now £57.25
  • edited May 2010
I don't think that the concept of the May bankroll challenge should change that much.  It promotes good bankroll management, and since the ROB is measured in % surely everyone is starting out on a level playing field?
  • edited May 2010
Machka, you are a legend creating those tables.

    Lots of good results there.

Here is hoping June will be as successful!
  • edited May 2010

Now for something completely different.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but because there are so many split pots there isn't as much variance in HiLo, the bankroll needed to play is smaller.  I don't know, I have asked on the forum but I don't think anyone actually knows, but perhaps a 10% rule is appropriate?  However, Sky would need to sort out the rakeon the HiLo tables for this to work.

Great Job Machka with the tables makes it so much easier for us all to see how our BR challenge is going N1 m8

Thanks for all the messages about running the table.

If anyone didn't announce a target and wants me to plug one into the table let me know.

After an appalling start , i managed to claw back my BR. Doubt i will be playing much in the next few days, as i'm off to Spain, so my feeble attempt to reach £250 has finished.

Started with £100 finished with £182, up £82.

I relaxing few weeks away from poker will give me a chance to do some reading up, come back refreshed.

Well done to Machka, for keeping everyone updated with the excellent table.

    Good luck all

    :(

Morning after the night before, done a few calculations and the current bankrolll stands at....

     £1548.64 - £165.75 =  £1382.89 !!!!

What a horrible few hours, I don't believe in 'variance' and losing streaks, sometimes u get lucky sometimes you don't  if you are losing the flips, your opponents draws are hitting, and even your sets are getting outdrawn by over pairs - theres always another way to take down a pot!!!

So I'm not going to showdown today guys - If you sit with me, be prepared to put the lot in or fold! lol

Only 3 days to go Im gonna have to play 2 days in a row for the first time in ages.

    Gl all, DOHH
