    Or local paper.

Or see if there is a case to made v Local authority for disability discrimination? Everyone has the right to an education and it seems Lily is not getting an appropriate one at the moment.

Cheers, I think that might be the next step, writing to our MP I mean. Annoyingly our MP used to be David Cameron who would have had a lot of power obviously but he's stepped down now. A couple of people have suggested that with the recent developments.

The thing is, I kind of see where they are coming from in the sense that they are saying there physically isn't the space for another child in the school and I can't see them expanding a school for 1 kid (although if Lily is missing out on a place, you can guarantee lots of others are) so I'm not sure what they're supposed to do/what an MP could do. Clearly Lily needs more help, I just don't know what anyone is supposed to do.

Today has been the first morning for what feels like ages without the kids (Lily was off school sick all last week with a chest infection) and the weather was about as good as it has been for a month so I got out for a run. I know I always bang on about this but it really is massiveeee (for me anyway) how much of a difference it makes when you don't run for a couple of weeks.

Needless to say I proper struggled. A few times I had to stop, walk for a couple of mins and then start running again so that's skewed the time a bit cos I probably spent 10 mins of that walking.

On the positives, in the past (once I stopped doing couch to 5k where they suggest you walk parts) I've always just ran to the point where I feel I can't run anymore then stopped and walked home whereas this time I ran as much as I could, walked for a couple of mins, ran some more, walked a bit, ran some more etc.

It probably isn't only your kid that is waiting to get the education they need. If it was, you would get notification as soon as a space became available as they wouldn't want the school being under utilised and risk closure.

If nothing else David Cameron should be sympathetic as he had a disabled child himself. What do you have to lose?

Yeah David Cameron is definitely understanding of this kind of thing. Emma's cousin had cerebral palsy (he's passed away now sadly) and David Cameron was great in helping him get all the support he needed and would phone Emma's auntie personally once a week and check in on how she was doing etc and that was while he was busy being prime minister. Now that he's not prime minister anymore and he's stepped down from being the MP for our area too I dunno how much power he'd have, but as you say there's nothing to lose, and I can always contact the new MP for our area too.

I have a bit of experience with the issues mentioned above. You will have to fight for everything you get for your daughter but dont be dishearetened. The school might be able to get an extra staff member to work individually with her if you can prove the need with your EHCP and in any case most of the specialist provisions you are thinking of are filled with mixed ability pupils and the educational/academic side is often secondary to caring for the most exceptional challenging behavior etc and keeping a routine with personal care/changing/timeouts/tactile play etc all to arrange and keep consistent. You may be better served trying to keep your daughter in mainstream education for as long as possible where she might pick up basic reading/writing which will help A LOT in future.

Cheers for the input, I haven't given all the details on here because as you can imagine it's longgg story. Lily has had funding for 1-to-1 care since she was in pre-school, and that has carried over into primary school, she's 8 now and has been seen by pretty much every type of doctor going. Her clinical psychologist says that she's never seen anyone like Lily before and that she thinks she struggles so much because she has Autism and Tourettes and it's those 2 combined that are causing a lot of problems, she very much wants to be in control of everything but at the same time the tourettes stops her having control a lot of the time which causes her tons of anxiety.

One problem with the current school is just that it's a pretty tiny village school in our tiny little village in the middle of nowhere. The positives of that are that it's vv high acheiving mainly because the class sizes are like 15-20 pupils in a class with 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants which is worlds away from when I was a kid and it was 1 teacher to cope with 30 odd kids. The downside though is that it's vv small and they just don't have the facilities to cope, for instance she spent ~6 months point blank refusing to be in the classroom but they don't have a single spare room for her to go to so they had to set up a little desk in the hallway/reception of the school (which is very small)

Fwiw academically she is pretty strong. They had assessment last year and they said she had the reading and comprehension of an 11 year (this was when she was 7), she's always been far ahead of the class when it came to reading, she's vv creative and loves writing her own stories etc. She's got a near perfect memory (probably autism to thank for that) so she's great at remembering facts for things like history.

I did mention it on here a long time ago but we bought her this Pokemon book because she was a big fan, and it listed all (600+) Pokemon, what they evolve from/in to, their moves etc and she just spent night after night reading it for a week or two and then knew everything inside out about all 600+ Pokemon. The one subject she struggles at is Maths and she is quite far behind on that, she just doesn't seem to understand some of the basic concepts/building blocks of how maths works and so even her 6 year old sister is considerably further on with Maths than Lily is.

Where she really lacks is knowing how to interact socially with people but that's totally standard for people with autism. Like you suggested we did always want to try and keep her in mainstream school as long as we could initially but as time as progressed we just think it's more important that she's in an environment where she's happy. As it is now, she is very much unhappy at school which leads to her throwing things at teachers etc and just gradually getting more and more aggressive.

In Response to Re: Lambert180 ----- Life After The Grind ------- : Lol I can't speak as to why he would enter the comp twice when he knew the prize was something he'd hate, that's a good question... As for the first bit, I think it's 2 factors (although I haven't asked him so I am guessing)... 1) If he sells say 50% then he can lock up a nice easy £55 totally risk free which is more than most will make when they play that comp, and he's still effectively playing a £55 tourney where he can make even more money. JJ has always played vv low stakes generally so even though he's ridic overrolled for it, he still sees +£55 as a solid result 'bink' 2) If he sells action then it forces him to play the tournament and play it seriously.  JJ hates these type of MTTs (and in fact most MTTs on Sky cos they are all ante-less) so when he's been given £110 seats in the past, and even once where he played a roller sat for the £££ but it ran on too late past the start time of the roller so he couldn't de-reg for the £££, he has literally just open shoved every hand until he bust. So I guess seeling forces him not to do that cos he'd never do that when it's other people's money on he line.

GREAT reply & thanks. Some good reasoning behind the selling.
BTW the 2nd bit was tongue in cheek.
Hope matters with your daughter get sorted, must be VERY frustrating.  GL

Her clinical psychologist said there is a small pot of funding if it's felt kids really can't carry on in their current school but there are no places anywhere, to pay for them to be put into private special educational needs schools. That was good news until the lady from the local authority said that in our county the only private schools of that type start from high school age upwards.
    Posted by Lambert180
    Cheers Glenelg and all

So a further development today.... Lily's clinical psychologist phoned me to update us on a couple of referrals she's put in for us etc and I told her that the education person from the local authority said there aren't any private special needs schools in our county that cater for primary school age children. She said that's just isn't true, gave us the name of one (that we've since googled) that a few of the kids she looks after go to, it's pretty close to us (in Oxford) and is for 5-18year olds.

We've been in contact with this local authority lady about this for a long time now, and she's been in that role for ~30 years so I refuse to believe she was totally unaware of the existence of a school in Oxford when her entire job is to find school placements in Oxfordshire. I'm not saying it's definitely the case yet... but I can only assume she lied because it's her job to save money and avoid having to send people private but imo there is no other alternative if they are just going to keep saying there are no places in public schools.

Again, it all just seems like a total joke, but at least it's a positive in the sense that there is a possible school for Lily to go to it and she can't deny it's existence now! Something new to crack on with tomorrow there.

Just finished off another mini session, the last of the month. A very small win. Graph looks alright, but doubt I'll be sticking round at the DYMs much longer to see it progress. Back to MTTs for me I think in Feb.

Hope everyone had a good month. Anyone got any plans (poker or otherwise) for Feb?

I was cheering on Chelsea tonight hoping they could nick 3 more points off Liverpool. I'll settle for them only getting 1 point but it would have been nice to see Spurs capitalise on it! Should be an easy 3 points for Man Utd tomorrow anyway at home to Hull so should be more points gained there.

Zlatan captained there for FF, need him to smash it so I can make some headway in the Strat Chat league.

Glad to hear you have got to the root of the problem with Lilly's education. From personal experience, all too often people employed to offer help and support only tend to offer help and support to themselves!
  • edited February 2017
Cheers QuickFeet, yeah and I think understandably (to a point) they are very concerned with the costs that come with certain types of support. I wouldn't want them to be realy wasteful with money but some times certain things are (imo) essential.

    =======================

Got back out on the running hype today. I'm well happy with my achievement today, it might not seem like much but I managed to run 5k and without stopping. Just shows that I haven't totally lost it, cos I was finding that quite easy around November time but then I did pretty much nothing during December and January, so I'm happy to be able to get back to that point by my second run since getting going again. I felt absolutely grim towards the end of the 5k like.

Just to keep Harry happy I've uploaded a picture rather than a link to a picture. It's 1:40pm on Wednesday, who wants unders/overs on it getting approved by this time tomorrow?

Gonna set myself a 'mini' target of running over 50 miles in February, so that's 3.1 out the way

Might give that 'Win The Button' MTT tonight, fun comps to play.

Is the content of the picture something that you've already described in the text? Can we guess what it is?

Gonna take a wild stab in the dark that it's some kind of map of running 5k.

Literally on the edge of my seat waiting for the result.

I will say after this time tomorrow :)

Good job on the running. I was thinking of setting some sort of monthly target with cycling to improve my fitness. Was going out semi-regularly in the summer/autumn but totally let it fall away.

Good luck on the tables and IRL!

Cheers Mark. It's amazing how quick you get better. I did that couch to 5k thing, think I started around September/October ish and on my first go I genuinely struggled to run for 60 seconds without having to stop, and then within 6 weeks or so I was able to run 5k non stop. I got really lazy though in the build up to xmas and all of Jan, so I haven't really progressed at all/I've taken a small step backwards.

I've got a small friendly bet on with JJ/Dohhhh that I'll complete a half marathon by 1st May ya see. He is banking on my motivation waning as time goes on, and tbf I've got a pretty solid track record for doing that, getting hyped up for X thing and making a big start but not finishing it off.

I must admit after all the recent giddymess im looking forward to the daily report of the football results today.

180 minutes against bottom and 2nd bottom and your boys couldn't score a goal between them.

    "oh dear"
  • edited February 2017
Yeah was waiting for that, bloody useless w@nkers! I could live with Spurs only getting a point but very disappointing for Utd to pass up an absolute gift of an opportunity to gain some points.

On the positives, I was happy with how things stood before these matches, and nothing has changed with everone getting 1 point, so I'm still happy enough. Tilt that Zlatan did nothing in FF at home to the worst defence in the league tho! Bacon was saved by the fact Alli and Kane, the captains of AJ and Andylad, did nothing too.

Still no sign of a pic approval from Sky... 21hr and counting.

Interesting experiment this with the picture... just shy of 31 hours now. Does anyone know what the system is for approving pictures, afaik no-one else has posted a picture on the forum recently so I don't think it's a back log, so presumably it's not something that gets checked even once per day.

    5pm Friday... overs or unders?

    RE:Picture approval.

Not even Mods can approve pictures, it is down to a select few sky employees who have special "back room" access.

We live in hope that the forum s/w upgrade will go ahead and allow automated checks of pics and the ability for anyone to upload, or maybe anyone after a qualifying period of time/posts.

In the mean time, after previous complaints on the subject, I was advised that checks were made every day as to whether pics need approving. You are not the first to catch them bluffing, hence I was pretty confident on the overs.

It does dscourage people posting pics as "the moment" is often lost by the time it is approved. Others like yourself post links to pic sharing sites, which for me seems daft for skypoker business as it takes people away from their website.

PS Not a dig at Tikay as I know he fights our corner on this point, it is just not feasible in the current set up.

PPS You could try a subtle new thread title e.g. "Sky_SamT or Sky_James what do you have to do to get a pic approved around here?"

I did send a note up this morning about this photo but I've not had a response yet. I honestly don't know who approves them.

If the decision were mine - it's not - I'd certainly NOT allow links to photo sharing sites, the potential for mischief there is far greater, but I'd allow any Account holder to upload photos once they have had, say, 100 posts to prove their validity, as opposed to a newbie or troll posting some nonsense. It's usually "new" posters that you have to worry about, these are so often troll accounts, but their attention span rarely lasts 100 posts.

This is set up to be the most anti-climatic reveal ever now. Pictures definitely make forums (and diaries) more fun, allows you to do little fun quizzes too where you gotta guess things in pics etc. I think Sky have done the odd thing like that in the past but obviously that can only happen when it's run by the guy approving the pics.

I'm doubting it'll get done by 5pm now, which means it might be Monday now if the approver doesn't do weekends.

Disappointing run today, not sure why but I just seemed to run out of steam a lot earlier. My route today was a bit hillier (is that a word?) than normal but I'm not sure that's enough to have this impact. Managed to just about push on for 4k but it was tough going, harder than it was doing 5k two days ago.

That's 5.59 miles ran so far in Feb. Thinking I may have set the bar a bit low with 50 miles but it's no bother, can always up it a bit for March, then April will hopefully be half marathon month. I said to JJ I'd be able to get ready for a half marathon dead quick but with how tough this first week has been, I'm not so sure...

JJ/Gary or any other runners, what do you do in terms of a warm up? I've only been doing like a couple of mins max of a few stretches, and I walk the first like minute just till I get out of my street. Any tips?
