    Hahaha

Diary, my Dad.  My Dad, diary.

Introductions done, firstly congratulations on turning on the computer.  Our standard £20 last longer sounds good to me.  Don't fold too much waiting for me to bust.

hello sir, don't worry folding 6 hands should win you the last longer approximately 85% of the time!

On the SPT this coming weekend.  I've posted this in the SPT section but a lot of people don't read around so here it is:

A few of us are meeting up on the Friday night.  8pm outside Nandos in Westfield by Aspers.  All are welcome, SPT newbies to long time veterans to people not even playing the SPT and just fancy chicken.

The plan is spicy poultry, followed by drinks and maybe some cash poker in Aspers after.  Possibly sacking off the casino and going ten pin or just a bar instead, see what the mood is at the time.  A feature to this is I'm planning a prop bet with Greg involving the strongest spice rating and that black bottle with three Xs on it.  He doesn't know about this yet.

Like I said, all are welcome.  I'll be chilling outside the Nandos from about quarter to so just come up and say Hi.  Especially if I'm being mugged.

Also please remind greg hes due to be in an Arsenal top at an SPT - anytime this lifetime is good :P

lol at greghog in arsenal top :D

just gotta ask, why the nandos love.

sticky floors, mediocre chicken and chips, and then 'spicy' sauce, it's like you cant get chicken chips and spicy sauce anywhere else.

i'd rather go to nandos than a bunch of other fast food places, but meh, round the corner opposite the entrance way to aspers on the 'road thing' outside the inside bit of westfield, just down past the omega shop that's being done up on the corner is a restaurant called the real greek, went there the other weekend and the food was excellent. much better for sharing too that style of munch :)

Nonsense that bet was cancelled, as you would never have worn a Celtic Shirt anyway... Also cost me a score to cancel it! So It's never gonna happen!

It's just about inclusivity and so that everyone knows what they are going to get.  I freely admit no one is going to have a mind blowing meal (except for Greg, a lot is going to blow there) but the whole point of it is to find a happy medium.  If I arrange it for a restaurant round the corner then it'll end up being me sat with Greg fretting about a hand history from 2009 and Matt smiling about how much money he's won lately.  You pick the Nandos by Aspers it's more likely more people we don't even know will turn up and say hi.  If people don't want to eat then they can come up and chill, have a drink and get to know people.  Not many people are going to be put off with the style of food (like people who have never had Greek food but will still say they don't like it) and no one's gonna be worried about the cost or think we'll flip for the cheque.  It's right by the casino so it's easy for people.

Just a happy medium, trying to include everyone.  New SPT people sometimes get put off when they walk into a casino on the Friday or Saturday and everyone is already in their groups, and some get put off from coming to another one.  Just putting an option out there.

But if the GF read your post she'd go mental at you, she seriously believes Nandos is the height of fine dining.  We currently have about three loyalty cards on the go.  For the sake of variety I'm the only person who goes in there and either orders the vegetarian option or the steak roll, and even when I have ordered the steak roll they've still sent chicken out for me.

Ok, time for the Wednesday night grind.  Just back from football training and that always makes Wednesday night poker interesting.  A fun combination of feeling refreshed from exercise above the waist while the legs feel like they've gone through a mangle always makes these sessions eventful.

A quick message re:  TSP.  A big thank you for all of the support and well wishing messages since my selection.  I am delighted to be a part of it.  Poker's always been about the fun and camaraderie for me, and representing a community such as this which I do care about makes me very proud.

Right enough with the mushy stuff, it's spew time.

    Tommy,

Firstly, have you remembered about the drinks for the 27off game when we were playing cash?

Secondly, I haven't won anything in the last couple of days! Is this down to this variance thing I hear so much about?

Finally...vegetarian option in Nandos, you offend me sir!

I've ordered that steak roll five times.  Three times they said they were waiting for a delivery.  Once they said they had ran out  (WTF!?!?!  Was there a rush on steak in the chicken house?!?!) and the last time was, like I said, when they took my money and sent out a chicken wrap instead.  I now don't believe they exist.  I've heard stories of people having them for sure, but never seen one.  They are a myth.

I'll catch you at Aspers if you make the long trip mate, I understand that if you have decided to come you've probably already started the huge journey ;)

    Firstly, 2-1 in your favour.

Secondly, I'm very sorry to hear that.  Two days without a win must be killing your confidence.  I've available for coaching.

Finally, the big mushroom and goats cheese stuff is the nuts.  Only problem is you really need to order two of them.  Then you either look like a stuffer or that your date's escaped through the bathroom window.

So that was SPT London then.  Great to see all the faces old and new.  Highlights from outside of the pokers were:

Greg getting quite twitchy that his burger was the last to arrive in GBK on the Friday night.  He complained to the same waitress twice in two minutes then realised that he was the only person to ask for a 'well done' burger.  Hey he got some free fries out of it.  And probably a free mystery topping on the burger as well.

Monkey123 and Sickswans with their roulette system.  Well I say system, I didn't quite understand it but I'm probably too dim to see the genius in it.

I met a ton of people for the first time and everyone, old and new seemed to be on good form.  I even saw Pryce6 smile once (congrats on the cash btw, defo deserved even better the way you were playing).

As for the poker, I'm pretty gutted truth be told.  I don't think I played well, I spent the second half of Day 1 being bashed up by the person to my immediate left or getting peeled and generally outflopped every time.  There were a couple of pots that did go in my favour (more about that in a bit) but I just wasn't getting any of the small one you need to build on a stack.  I was getting peeled by K4 OOP, having K high flops and they were calling to the death, got called down by A high more than once and had QQ binked by 99 where luckily I lost the minimum.

    So the big hands.

It's fairly early on my first table, I haven't been getting anything together.  A few locals are quite vocal and either fun to listen to or quite annoying depending on your point of view.  We have a couple of 'loose cannons' on the table turning up with quite funny hands.  I have AQss in the SB.  UTG opens and by the time it gets to me there are four callers, I'm down to about 23k so I peel as does the big.  973 flop two spades so I have two overs and the nut flush draw.  I check.  The UTG raiser also checks, Nick now leads and I'm a little concerned as I'm pretty sure he's not leading light into this much traffic, two calllers from the peelers (including one very loose cannon who shakes whenever he's in a pot) so I also flat.  Now our local talkative friend UTG suddenly check/raises.  Oh hello.  Nick mucks as does one of the other callers.  Mr Loose Shaky flats again and it's on me.  Now playing 21k I really can't and don't want to peel.  I'm thinking I am obviously behind to our C/R local who likes a chat but have decent equity and some fold equity.  I think there is every chance I'm actually ahead of the other person in the pot and have tons of equity against them even if not.  So I shove.  UTG chatty local takes about ten minutes on his decision, tortured it's a multiway pot and he can't talk to me about the hands.  Eventually he asks someone to call clock on him and mucks.  Mr Cannon calls with T8 for the OESD.  Now the strange bit, as soon as I show Nick tells me I don't have many Queens to hit (so I instantly know he mucked Queens).  Mr Local misses this and claims he had Queens.  Now this is obviously impossible so I'm still wondering, why would you claim to have a hand like Queens there and lie about it?  In my mind there is zero chance and no point for Nick to be lying, so what did that local have.  Doesn't matter, we hold versus the T8 and break hte 50k chip count.

Big hand two, I've just been moved to a new table.  On the table is G_Emery (first time I've met him, lovely kid, very likable indeed who I sadly went on to knock out.  More sad as I had a stake in him, FML).  The hand previous I check my option in a multi way limped pot and he tells me what a great squeeze spot that was.  I sigh, I wasn't squeezing because I it just wasn't working previous, many were peeling and going to war with one pair.  So onto the next hand, multi limped again and I can't help myself after what George said.  I squeeze K8cc in the small.  Showing it just doesn't work today I get our callers.  Flop comes K88.  Decent flop.  I C-Bet and get raised by one of the limpers.  I flat.  K on turn, so I now know no one was playing funky with KK but it's a bad card for me.  Any action is likely a chop.  I check, we get bet again and I notice they have a big stack.  So I decide to click it back, which is totally awful.  We get called.  7 on the river and I decide to shove and see the chop pot.  I get called by J8.  Wowzers.  We have 160k

The rest of Day 1 was a struggle.  Every peeler hit, every A high call down from someone else was good and the person on my left cut off all of my supply, often 3bet and 4betting my plays, being very active but never ever showing a hand that wasn't the goods.  It was a crazy spot, he was either card racking it up or just playing perfect without missing a spot or getting unlucky.  He was a set machine.  So we get down to 75k after getting really bashed up and eventually me and my new friend get it all in Pre in a 6bet pot with AK v Tens, button v SB, on the second last hand of the day.  I get told how brave I am to play all day and get it in with AK (the kind of line where someone says brave but means stupid).  Of course he forgets half of his stack is in the middle and he is never a big favourite here, he's always very slightly ahead or miles behind.  We win the flip and go back to Day 2 with 150k which is something like a top 15 stack of 80 odd people.

Day 2 started poorly and didn't get better.  A smaller stack playing 40k shoves into me in the first orbit, I call it off with AKs.  They have Aces and hold.

Now for the exit hand, playing 80k at 1200/2400/300 and getting nothing going it's unopened to me in the Hijack.  I need to get some supply going so I open for 5k with 74s.  BB peels (the feature of the tournament for me).  K36r.  I think a good flop to C-bet so I do, get called.  Sigh, really, again.  Turn 5.  Bink.  I bet again, (I went 10k on flop and 18k on turn).  Now they raise, happy days.  Suddenly an old hand from another SPT comes into my head.  The 6 Max v Rob Yong when I had AA on AQT.  He C/R me on that flop and I stupidly shoved.  He folded and showed me the ace, later claiming to have AT.  I don't want to do that again, I need a full double here and I don't want any hero folds, while wanting him to bluff a river he he can as well as all of his value hands.  So I flat.  K on the river and I call it off.  I get to see K5s (I did say they were peeling wide from the BB) and feel utterly gut punched.  I think he's still calling a turn jam, I obviously want him to if it did, but I feel completely stomped on.  I wish the table the best of luck and I'm on the 97 bus within ten minutes.

I'm very sorry to not say goodbye to many of the railers, but trust me, I was really bad company at that time and I had no inclination to either talk or hear bad beat stories.  I thought it best to just quietly slink off into the snow.

Still, was a lovely weekend and I'm really looking forward to Dublin.  I think I'm going to get a lot of live play in before now and DTD, I'm such a live fish.

I did indeed have QQ that hand, hence the flat pre antes vs utg and lead into 6 fishies on 9 hi :)

So funny that he chose that hand to lie about though, especially after I'd already declared my hand which luckily I showed to the guy to my right ha.

For anyone wondering Tommy would have GOT THERE anyway vs me... Although I wasn't worried at all about him - utg loudmouth's check raise looked very strong into what 4/5 people Tommy? He was clearly 'at it' but what a terrible spot to c/r bluff.

Only because I'm expert. Had 3 other mega fish behind incl Tommy who likes to go allin and get there...

Who knows what he had anyway, may well have c/r nit folded better and just said Queens to make it sound a more of a fold to people.

    This

I decided at the time he had Kings, now I'm thinking this or lower spades, which makes sense as I didn't hit my flush.

TBH I wasn't messing around up until this point and not getting involved with Nick at all.  Zero point pre antes and with a lot better spots on the table.  I even made a couple of decent sized folds.  Same reason why I don't 3bet AQs pre OOP.

I couldn't resist the chance to check, call and raise on one street, pretty sure I haven't done that much before.  Was fun.  Seeing someone C/R/F live for the first time ever was also fun.
