Can I also vote Maxally for this thread please.

It has certainly been most entertaining over the Bank Holiday weekend.

(Was a great thread max - even if you did get a bit of stick from the regs:) wd.

can i state i disagree with the above. Simply because of the nature in which the thread has turned into. I have nothing against Alan winning, just not for that thread imo. (im happy to explain why to alan privately if he wishes)

I vote for Greghogg for having a go at Smitalos.

And also for smitalos, for having a go back at Greghogg.

    Both worthy winners imo :D

Also standard borinloner nomination. Should prob win every month if he was allowed to, as well as TommyD.

Grantorino is back in the clinic so he wud be no.5 and stick Don in coz I want him to get back to nl20 as watching him play nl10 is zzzzzzzzzzzzzz ;)

    There's ya 6!

Underscore is on the key immediately to the right of the '0', together with the minus sign.

Benc is a glaring omission from the list those who've been awarded a seat so far.

It's great to see him back on the forum after his month long self-exclusion (which was for the best of all possible reasons). A first-class contributor with a bright future.

A few worthy nominations already this month:

GREGHOGG - For the OyNutter to OyDublin thread, really showing the community at it's best.

IrishRose - For her great post after playing Dublin which perfectly captured what the SPT's are all about

SPT (I know he's probably not allowed to win but deserving of a mention) - Tireless and excellent updates of all the action from Dublin.

and finally one who has been overlooked in the past and very deserving of some recognition in my opinion....

Sammydridd - a lot of what he does is unseen, but Sam stepped in a while ago to ensure the Monday night DTD kept on running smoothly, re-created what is quite an in depth results spreadsheet and every Monday since has sat up until the early hours (the games often get finished around 1.30am!) and posts a full list of results ready for when the rest of us wake up on Tuesday morning, surely worthy of some recognition :)

    also.....

    TheDart

for by far the most creative entry into the Fantasy SPT competition:

A bit of thought has gone into my selection criteria!

    TommyD (captain)
    Hankslim
    Ems-Slave
    David666
    Aussie09
    Ron2121
    Trixie06
    Yoyo

1 = BORIN LONER ( Always helping everyone on the forum and really is the voice of common sense )

2 = DOHHHHHHH ( Another guy who is always helping others and whose dry sense of humor sometimes cracks me up :) )

3 = BENC ( Love reading his diary on here and imo is one of the most improving players on the site )

4 = GaryQQQ ( For his endless posting of the MTT results each night and his ongoing 1000pts-£1000 diary )

5 = SMITALOS ( Some great posts from him and another guy who cracks me up at times )

6 = LARSON7 ( Great guy and with the help of his diary also improving at a rapid rate )

Could write a dozen mores names but alot of them have played this lately or in the past so seemed pointless putting them down.

+1 to this but only on the condition he makes a video of the sng the fact he sounds like jimmy carr and is actually v-funny makes watching poker vids very entertaining, everyone else i can think off atm has played i think, agree that greghogg deserves to play for organization of oynutter going to the spt plus him and smitalos at the table will be good fun- maybe dohh involved as well to inject a bit of humour into the match and so the presenters have some play to mock if they have spare air time.

Thanks Gary and Arazi for the mention btw.

Sky poker is so frustrating. I have been playing poker for nearly 10 years now. I consider myself a decent poker player now with a tight aggressive style. I have been a member of sky poker for approx 6 years now and I regularly play 5.50 double ups and fail to make much profit because, for example, the last 6 double ups I have played I have won 3 and lost 3, and the 3 that I have lost I have got my chips all in good with the best hand each time and lost all 3 and this is an example of what has been happening over the years. I am starting to lose patience and feel like I'm being stitched up. I understand variance and that these things do happen in poker but the regularity of it on Sky Poker is hard to believe to be honest. If you are almost constantly playing percentage poker and playing the odds and playing good solid poker and virtually everytime im all in with the better hand I win less than 50 per cent of the showdowns then its difficult to make progress and there is not much more that I can do. I very rarley get myself all in or pot committed unless I have the better hand and if I win less than 50 per cent of the time when I have the better hand going in then I'm not sure what else to do.
Any ideas apart from leaving Sky Poker?

This isn't really the right thread to be posting this but since you're new we'll let you off.

Nearly everyone considers themselves to be a decent player. Only a minority are break even or better. I don't know how good you are but if your results say you're not a winning player, then you're not a winning player. If your results say you are a winning player then be happy because it's really tough to make money from this game in the long run.

This is an important concept to understand in terms of variance. Across a sample of only a few hundred games, you're only really getting a very rough idea of how good a player you are. Most people will tell you that you need to have a sample of several thousand before you can draw any reasonably solid conclusions. Talking about 6 games you've played recently demonstrates that you're not really understanding variance as well as you think. Even in these six you've won half which is not to be considered, by any standard, as run-bad.

If you're playing DYM's you might need to think about the particular strategies of that variant of the game. It has significant differences from MTT's, STT's or cash poker.

If you get your chips in with the best hand "virtually all the time" then you are definitely not playing well. You should find that you get your chips in bad a significant proportion of the time i) by playing aggressively at certain times with draws, ii) because of your position or iii) because of your pot odds (although ICM makes this less important in DYM's). If you're not doing that enough, you will struggle to win in the long term.

Finally; lots of people post this type of thing on here when they're not winning. Frequently their attitude is that they're not winning and therefore the games are rigged. There's another post along a similar line elsewhere on the site but I've replied to you because you seem more reasonably minded and polite. A large number of players on this forum are winning players. They're winning players because they've practised, read-up and talked about poker for many years with others who are doing the same. They've put a great deal of effort into becoming winning players... then someone comes along and suggests that those winning players only win because the game is rigged. How annoyed would you be in their place?

It's a game of thin edges where the best players only win a little more frequently than break even players, and break even players only win a little more frequently than losing players. One of the top MTT players on this site only has an ROI of 17% across his entire time on here. He has become a much, much better player than the vast majority on the site but he has only made 17p per pound he's invested. Nobody can win huge all the time.

Usually I ignore this type of post because it's very rare that anyone reacts well to being told that if they're not winning, it's because they're not that good. I don't want to upset you but if I told you otherwise, I wouldn't be doing you any favours.

The games are not rigged. The site is audited and checked and everything is fair. Improve your game and you might start to win... but everyone else is trying to improve too.
