Pretty sure that was a big factor though! Loving this diary mate, best of luck in the rebuy tomorrow. It is a great structure and an mtt I would love to play, but always busy on a Wednesday.

Cheers mate. The 8th isn't too big a factor ;-)

Rolled for it now and because the structure allows a lot of play, it suits me a bit more.

Warning - This may be a long post.

Emotional day today. Spent majority of this afternoon planning a memorial day for a friend who passed away 4 years ago. We were only 10 - Playing our weekly sunday league game for Studley Juniors, when suddenly one of my best friends collapsed. Very strange for it to happen at this age so it was clearly very serious. Anyway towards the end of the week he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. This started a 3 year long battle against various cancers, which sadly ended June 2010, whilst I was in Germany. Everyone was devastated. One of the nicest guys I will ever come across, and a best friend for life. I was in shock, completely ruined the rest of my week in Germany (an exchange). Football was never the same again. We've now made it a tradition to run a memorial day of our football team vs the coaches who run/ran the Junior teams when we were playing. Whilst I struggle with deafness/balance issues/fragile hearing aid, its an opportunity I can never turn down. Still got another 30 days till this is played, but already starting to feel the emotion and are slightly nervous for it. But its for a fantastic cause.

    Anyway onto the poker.

My evening started quite badly but ended out as a £3 profit.

Main - I gave up the main 5 minutes before the add-on. Had already spent £22, and my 9s failed to hold vs J T. I felt even if i spent the extra £33 (RB x2 + AO), my stack is still not competitive enough relative to blinds and other players on the table. Felt it would have been a complete waste of money which can be used towards better situations. So I trashed the main.

Mini - This was a struggle. I had 2 players that never folded and min bet every flop regardless of whether they hit or not - One of them limped 7 2 in the SB and i checked with 2 6. Flop came 2 2 7 then a 6 turned. Ended up costing me £11. Cheeky sod :-). Then I got moved to a more solid table, which was playing extremely wide and aggressive. Anyway I managed to recover and cash for £27. I believe this was as far as I could go - I struggled to make the cash. Not by playing tight but very much rode my luck at times. Made some good plays and the hands I ended up jamming were dominated. Few interesting hands I have from this mini though. Managed to get max value in a spot I think I did well to.

So 4 hands later I was dealt AA in UTG+1 and UTG had flatted. I decide to flat behind intending for more action and expected someone to squeeze (As described above it was a very aggressive table) . I know its not the best way to play my Aces, but I got some value from them anyway. I was a little surprised at what UTG flatted with, Had he raised pre 100% I 3b and we could get it in. Also think it benefitted me slightly as I was massively underrepped, hence his station.

My profit came from a super deep turbo on 888 which I final tabled for $32. So a day of very mixed emotions ended out in a £3 profit. For a very long enjoyable session, you can't complain at any profit at all. Think its the most variance I have experienced in one night though. Love it.

Love a thursday poker evening session me, especially hours after some revision. Main/Mini some smaller tournaments and some cash thrown in. Goodluck to everyone tonight :-)
  • edited May 2014
    Fine evening.

Played the main, mini, 20:05 BH, 19.30 £200 GTD and the £2 speed @ 21:45.

The 4 latter tournaments were non events really. Took 1 head in Mini and the 20:05 so got 1/3 of my money back. Standard exits in all.

The main was a rollercoaster and a half - Started badly, then 8.30-9 I was hitting everything - busted out 2 people including MattBates QQ vs JJ. I then made a horrible decision - and the guy would not let it go. He wasn't even in the hand, I made a bad 4b jam on a draw heavy flop with top pair, and he just would not shut up about it. Not sure whether he was trying to make myself tilt or not, but kindly the 2 other talkative players at the table just told him to leave it. One of those ended up coming 3rd - SJspanky - a true gent and i'm pleased he did well.

So my exit was after becoming short post this hand. This guy had only just come to the table and I wasn't really sure what to make of his play. Limping out of that stack is BAD, but is it bad or is it monster? On history I had him down as one who raised huge with his premiums and limped connecting sort of hands, so I went for it. 11bbs A9, It's going in.

So this resulted in 39th place and a return of £56. Satellited in for a total of £18 (5 all in attempts) So a decent night really. Bit gutted I pushed that hand really but that's just the player I am.

I then proceeded to play a few 60p DYMs - In order to help out a newer player who is a forum reg. Not collusion etc, but just played as normal to help him improve and try and spot some leaks. I know my game is far from perfect but I felt I can definitely help him. The one funny thing about these games were about the 3rd one I played - The game start to finish was 3 hands. I'll post these in the BBV section as it doesn't half take some doing.

So another night in profit and another enjoyable show courtesy of Sarah and Tikay. Loving it.

Not posted since thursday. Haven't been around really other than to play Saturdays mini which went ok until i ran KK > AA 2 off money. Was painful.

Life. It sucks. Sucking very hard lately, past 4 days have been a horrible experience. No motivation to do anything whatsoever hence no poker. Thought i'd play the DTDs tonight to try and take my mind off things. Went ok in all 3 but no cashes.

Putting my life to one side what a week-end of sport we have been treated to. Championship play-off final showed what a great game football is, Derby absolutely dominant - Gary O'neill taking a red card for the team and was very much so rewarded with Zamora's late goal for QPR - God knows what the Derby defence was doing however.

Straight afterwards was the Heineken cup final. Now i don't have too much interest in rugby union barring the world cup and 6 nations, but i watched the game purely because of Johnny Wilkinson. What a legend that man is. Very fitting farewell for him to win the cup again. Provided a great sporting memory of mine growing up with his drop goal against the aussies in '03.

Then of course it was the champions league final. Gutted for Atletico but what a season they have had. Real deserved it on the night but Atletico certainly contributed to a very entertaining game. Simeone antics were shocking really, as my Dad said; Beckham obviously didn't hit him hard enough.

League 1 play-off on sunday provided the best entertainment - Gutted for a certain TommyD that Orient couldn't win the shoot-out but the game was superb and both teams deserved to go up. 2 Shocking penalties from the Orient blokes costed them promotion, after a 48 game marathon. It must be very tough on the players, as I know how it feels as a fan to get knocked out in the play-offs.

Really looking forward to next season now. I support Leamington FC in the conference north (dont think ive mentioned that here) And our manager has built up a very promising squad for next season in hope of a play-off push. Cannot cannot wait :-).

Must say i did enjoy tonight though. Not a bad sole at the tables in the DTD games and always up for a good chat. Big recommendation to play them to anyone who doesn't already. Hope to get back into the mood to grind tomorrow :-)

You missed something - Might I add the fascinating Monaco F1GP on Sunday, and the look on the podium between Hamilton and Rosberg - EH OH! Here we go possibly with Senna v Prost MkII (No disrespect to the l8 Legend, and the best F1 driver probably ever! oh what a whining T*** Vettel's become now he's in an 'Average' car rather than one which belongs in a league of it's own - Ala Red Bull 2010-2013 and Mercedes this year!)

I have some close pals who live in Rotherham so was supporting them for the day on Sunday and was thrilled to see my 'Adopted' team win promotion....My mate wrote to me on FB earlier to say that he has no nails left following Sunday's game, and he hardly watches football! Better get growing some ready for the WC in less than 3 weeks! THREE WEEKS! OMFG! how quickly has it come around!.... :O

    Very strange evening for me.

Feeling much better today though - went to docs RE: my depression and helped a fair bit. Ears still playing up which is a pain in the backside but just gotta live with it. Got my daily revision done and sat down for a 5 hour treat from Orford and Jarvis, plus an entertaining night of poker.

Played the main/mini/20:05 BH tonight, and it's quite fair to say it did not go very well. I made an horrendous misclick in the main about 20 minutes in and was therefore down to 180 chips. Recovered up to 1600 but eventually blinded into 10bigs territory and went for it with 7s - called by 8s. Mini exit was with 99 on 2 6 7 rainbow when someone donk jammed who limped in pre and called raise - turned out he had 10s. :-(. 20:05 BH flopped huge with AQ spade on 9 10 J, 2 spades. 2 Jams before myself but felt it was a massive mistake to fold such a strong combo draw and ended up missing.

Then i played 2 £5.50 sit and gos - Not sure why, just felt in the mood. First one i played awfully tight and got to the last 3. I was short - a certain forum friend Mr Liamboi ended up clashing with the other big stack and taking him out and i got to heads up about 6:1 behind. I pulled it back to even and got unlucky in some spots where i would have doubled up otherwise, but anyway i made an optimistic play at the wrong time and got called on turn with A high - on 10 10 J x board 2 diamonds when i had a gutshot. Would've been harsh if i hit but ended up getting 2nd which was a miracle in itself i think. Bubbled the 2nd game - Jammed 33 into the same players' A9 - Couldn't hold. Mr Liamboi ended up winning both games, no real surprise as he is excellent.

Always like to take part in the Mastercash hour to get some TV coverage. It does help getting feedback on cash hands especially as i am a tournament player trying to improve my cash game as i feel i could do well at cash on the side. My cash session ended up +£24 and stacking 4 players. 3 short stacks but its still a good satisfaction :-). Main hand was this one. It was a bit of a gift if i'm honest i couldn't quite believe he was stationing me with what he had. Nearly checked that turn - classic mistake that would have been.

Played 2 60p DYMs in the final hour as i've been trying to help a forum reg with his leaks lately. Starting to see some real progress now though, which is very good. Cashed 2/2 in these, not much to talk about here really but i felt like i had a massive edge over these players. There was 1 hand however which i was amazed at what happened - I played this quite passively hoping he would catch up with a draw, but when he snapped me at showdown went to look at what he had mucked and i couldn't quite believe it again. Seen some absolute madness tonight, with all due respects to the villains.

Losing night on MTTs but a nice 1 hour profit on 10nl has made this night a B/E. I am rolled to play 20nl which i probably should because of rake etc, but as i am only just starting out at cash i feel i can stick around at 10nl a bit longer. See ya all for the rebuys, been a fun nights play.

Expect to write a long post in the morning - Just made my first ever big final table which i'm chuffed to bits about. Whilst a 6th place in a mini doesn't sound that great, considering the field i'm over the moon.

In Response to Re: New kid on the block:
In Response to Re: New kid on the block:
Not posted since thursday. Haven't been around really other than to play Saturdays mini which went ok until i ran KK /> AA 2 off money.

    Like the first bit.
Agree with 2nd bit. Before Mclaren came Buxton and Keogh seemed to make mistakes like they did on Saturday every game. Since his arrival they've improved beyond recognition. Such a shame for both of them to make an error in the biggest game of their lives.
Well done on your result in the mini
    .
    Ps Matt

If he has a big hand we are getting it in pre so i checked twice to allow him to catch up on the river aswell as the turn. Flush got there, straight got there. Felt a big bet would get paid. Remember this is lower stakes DYM so if the bloke turned/rivered a pair he probably pays me off.

Close to heart still, more of a money thing than anything. Tricky going to every game from warwickshire. With Leamington a whole away day - drinks/food/travel/entry etc is far cheaper than a match ticket these days, even to places like Barrow/Workington. Just wanted something to do on my saturdays whilst i passed on United week in week out. Still go to the big away games though, City/Liverpool/Villa etc

Benefitted me on the side haha non league football knowledge has made me over £4k over past 2 seasons

    So I played my new Wednesday schedule - Main/Mini/19:30 £5.50 GTD/20:05 BH/20:30 Megastack/21:45 Speed. Also played 2 £11 DYMs and 1 £11 SNG - Bubbled all 3.

Latter 4 tournaments i listed above went a bit wrong. I never usually get so annoyed during a poker game but in the speed I got slowrolled. It was really obvious aswell. As soon as his time bank started, he said 'Gl' - About halfway through he turned erm twice. Then with about 2 seconds left he finally called. Thankgod this was a hand on the break because it could have really done me. My severe pet hate in poker. Appreciate if someone has a tough decision or if they are playing so many tables, but when its someone i dont really know and does all this hollywooding in the chat box - it's frustrating you know. Even had the cheek to say haha cya after i typed 'Nice.' in the chatbox.

Main was going OK but not brilliant. Always had a 20-25bb stack then a hand where I couldn't quite fire a third barrell so I checked behind, and the guy ended up rivering a pair. Left with 10BB and ran into JJ with 66 - Took a gamble and hoped for a flip but he can also have Ax Kx and underpairs in his range as he should be jamming wide.

So I was left with the mini and facing an £90 loss. If im honest I was just in the mood to go to bed as it wasn't happening for me. This was a bit of a weird tournament. I ended up making the final table without doubling up or knocking anyone out. Yet I was playing relatively aggressive. Only started the laddering game when it got to the final 8 as I was desperate to make this final table. Other than that I had the perfect stack to just keep 3b jamming in the spots where I had fold equity. Had to make a few things happen aswell as like I said I couldnt get a double up spot. Didn't really run good or badly either. Few hands here which set me up nicely for the final 20

Also shout-out to fellow TPTer who came 3rd.

I think I played this tournament near perfectly. Very happy with the outcome. Heard these rebuys are the hardest ones to cash somewhere and in 3 weeks of playing them:

    /> Week 1 - 8th in main
    /> Week 2 - Top 20 in mini
/> Week 3 - Final table in mini

Clearly my game has gotten to a decent level now, although I still don't want to think I am a good player etc yet. Suppose now that is another target is achieved I should probably take this further, and aim for a top 3 finish in a biggun.

Look forward to tonight - Bounty hunters haven't been my friend lately but the last main event BH i played i managed a cash. Also will play some cash during the TV hours.

Edit - There was a tough spot in the mini which I have posted in the clinic, for any MTT regs that read this diary.

Didn't run well at all tonight. Ended up in a £12 profit however.

Played a 1 hour cash session before my MTT schedule tonight. MTTs I played were the Main, Mini, 20:05 BH, 21:45 speed and the 22:00 Turbo.

Only one that went ok was the main - Made a pretty speculative call pre flop, went with it on the flop and got there on the turn ............ only to be rivered. This would've been head #4 and 3rd in chips. Fine lines!

Not much to discuss tonight, as 3/4 of my exits were button raises waking up with monsters where I can jam decent hands with some fold equity. Ran into QQ x2, AQ and AA - Bit unfortunate haha. So another night in profit for playing the game we love - who can complain???

No play. Revision, life stuff etc gotten the better today. Doesn't help i slept in till 3pm lol :-)

Easy choice on what to watch tonight, although it wasn't good viewing for myself. Not sure how many super league fans we have on here but Leeds Rhinos are a big family team of ours - bit like Man United. Do like watching the rugby league, find it quite entertaining. Anyway pretty big game tonight away at Warrington, and Leeds got slaughtered. Yet to come out of the game losing 24-6 was very impressive. Warrington looked so sharp, and for their awful start to the season, they are looking like a team to watch out for again come September/October.

Meanwhile the FA have confirmed preliminary line-ups for the leagues, more specifically non leagues as there are often switches/etc during the AGM which is held in 2 weeks. Usually now i start finding my picks to plonk money on. Done very well past 2 seasons and expect to do ok next year, although our league is stronger and much harder to pick. Conference North atm looks like this:

    AFC Fylde
    Barrow
    Boston United
    Brackley Town
    Bradford Park Avenue
    Chester FC
    Chorley
    Colwyn Bay
    Gainsborough Trinity
    Gloucester City
    Guiseley
    Harrogate Town
    Hednesford Town
    Hyde FC
    Leamington FC
    North Ferriby United
    Oxford City
    Solihull Moors
    Stalybridge Celtic
    Stockport County
    Tamworth
    Worcester City

Would say this is the strongest the league has ever been. On that list there are about 10 bankrolled clubs, 3 clubs that should be higher up the pyramid, and then only 1 or 2 punching above their weight. I can't wait for august for the start of the season, some of the away days will be fantastic. 6 new grounds on that list for me too, as I missed 2 of the away games last year. I also hope Oxford get shifted to the south and we get Lowestoft :-)

May play tomorrow but not sure, will try and play the roller on Sunday. Probably work on a month summary tomorrow aswell.

    Cheers Gary.

No play tonight but railed for a few hours busting some fifa on the ps3. Managed to see a fellow team mate take down the mini so well done to Mattprawn for that. Hopefully post monthly tomorrow and try and figure out what i'm doing next month. Definitely will be a quiet month for sure. Hopefully get my bets sorted soon aswell, will defo post some decent tips on here of good prices from non league market.

    MTT - £129.40 + $148
    Cash - £31.37
    STT - £18.60

    Overall - £179.31 + £12.60 points = £191.91 + $148

Not a bad month at all really for the stakes i've been starting out at under a proper bankroll. My aim of a top 10 in a main/mini was beaten, following an 8th place in a Rebuy main (Wednesday 14th). Then i set myself a target of a main/mini final table, which was beaten in a Rebuy mini - 6th place (Wednesday 28th). I also won 4 tournaments this month - a freebuy, a mega stack, a £1k BH and a £200 GTD @ 7.30pm.

I feel like my game has reached another level too, april was progress from a bad march, and despite a bad UKOPS, i came out of april near enough even. Now to take myself onto a month of profit is real progress. I am making much fewer mistakes and it's being rewarded. Tried alot more cash this month too, as one of my longer term goals is to become a winning cash player aswell as MTTs, aspiring to become someone like TommyD, who is extremely successful at both games.

June will be a fairly relaxed month, as WB 9th June, my exams restart for a 2 week period. I'm not sure how often i'll be around but i do plan to play a little bit this month. No real target set for it however, just get the exams out of the way and my first proper month will be July. Hopefully be able to devise a proper schedule for my roll on a daily basis for that month. Can't wait.

Wouldn't have minded if it came a spade, but case 5 on the river especially hurt!
