Also - A big well done to teammates Larson and Waller who placed 1st and 4th respectively in the best of the best promotion and won UKPC packages. Fly that TPT flag high lads. See ya all for the turbos!

Well. Dream evening for myself last night.

I was the last person on for the jackpot but I didn't really aim for it really. Couldnt get a double up in the mini despite jamming relatively wide, then got snapped by AA with my JJ and the guy turned quads. Finished 33rd for about £8 including HP. Main was a different story.

I played this near perfectly i think. I was 9bb with about 50 left and I was in a spot where I either treble up or bust, and decided, you know what, my cards could be live here and it will flop well so I went with it. Feasible i could be up against 2 x Ax , i could be crushed but it just felt like a good spot to make the call and gamble for a big spin up.

So that's where I got my stack from. At this point I was 1/48 or so, so I was able to play my game comfortably. I was playing quite aggressive because that's where i'm comfortable. Once I was 1/30 I knew I had a chance at this. Slowly picked people off, lost the occasional pot but ran quite standard in the late stage. Towards the last 20 I got lucky in a couple of spots and unlucky in others. Still continued with my style of picking people off, I wasn't intending to play tight at all and settle for just a top 10, I wanted a top 3 finish. I only really had one person to worry about and that was Neil1970.
So we got to the final table and I was near enough joint chip lead with Neil, there was someone with 2 bigs and the others had 9-12. I was confident of making the final 2 atleast, but I thought I could easily take it down. Anyway one by one they were gone - 3 handed and this happened. When I lost this hand I knew he was going to win. Bit unlucky but what can you do?

There's no doubt we both deserved to be the final 2 but hard to pick a winner really, we both took it by the grasp after money bubble and crushed. I was made up with 2nd place and an hour of my good play on the TV, but little gutted my AK couldnt hold/hit to knock him out in 3rd place, to give me a 7:1 HU lead. It was a fun night and a very profitable one.

So a 2nd in Turbo main for £742.77 and 33rd in mini for £8.32. Plus a free UKPC semi seat for winning the last longer competition.

Tonight be one of my last grinds before a break, may play tomorrow aswell dependent on how i'm feeling.

Haha cheers for the comments guys.

I withdrew a decent chunk of winnings from last night, paid for season ticket renewal and disabled mans railcard, ready for footie next season. Also settled a few deposits i made whilst still learning the game, and it paid for all my away games i did last season, plus i left 250 of it on my sky account. Pretty pleased with that.

So i played tonight and it didn't go very well. Don't think i made too many errors, maybe one optimistic jam in the mini. I had J10 diamonds, flop came Q 2 8 with 2 diamonds, someone bet + raised in front, so i 3b jammed my big draw which was about 40bb. Anyway snapped by both players who turned over 22 and QQ respectively. Turn was a blank, river? A miracle 2! I had to laugh really, Not quite sure what his odds were on the river, must've been very very thin.

This is my last session for a while now. May opt to play monday DTDs and the turbos for the next 2 weeks but other than that it will be farewell until Thursday 19th June. May write about life things and any interesting things for discussion but as for playing poker i'm signing out. Run good everyone.

PS - Tomorrow night 11pm watch a Matt237 masterclass! Sorry i got excited when i was crushing on the TV.

Longer revision sessions and relaxing watching some great TV has been a theme of my days recently.

Watched Leeds vs Leigh in the Challenge cup quarter final. Rhinos are 2nd in the super league and the best team in the UK, Leigh are top of the championship, and only part time. It is quite remarkable sometimes how professionals can struggle to beat part timers or amateurs, even on their own turf. The scoreline was level with 6 minutes to go. Just makes you realise what a fantastic event sports and games are. Half of the Leigh side had been to work before the game. And the effort they put it was fantastic, and obviously fell just short. Leeds weren't at their best but it was due to the pressure Leigh were applying.

Bit like an FA cup tie really. People say 'the magic of the FA cup is lost' nowadays, but they forget that the FA cup starts in August in preliminary rounds, and then the september-october qualifying rounds. Which reminds me, it's been 9 years since Leamington last made the first round of the FA cup, and even though I was 9, i still remember this day very well. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/4387914.stm

Events like these make me think how great poker is - how amateurs can compete with the pros and is slightly more of a level field on any day. In the longer run, the better players will always make more money but in 1 tournament anything can happen.

Football - Not long to go to the Conference AGM and more controversy is happening. Hereford/Macclesfield/Salisbury are in danger. Conference could easily chuck them all out which means all the leagues would need restructuring. Hereford likely to be removed however, so we will be losing Chester, one of the away days i was really looking forward too. Which would mean Hayes+Yeading would get a reprieve in the standard below and someone would be shifted to our league. And for each club that goes under, the same would happen again as teams in the conference south would be reprieved of relegation because of earning more points than those that finished in the bottom 3 of the conference north.

Along with all this is the match fixing scandal. 13 games are being investigated - 1 Womens premier league game, 2 Welsh premier games, 2 Conference premier games and the other 8 are conference north games. Thankfully Leamington were not involved in any of the games but in the games that have been flagged as fixed did actually have bizarre events occuring, so i could see some action being taken.

Tonight will be watching the BGT final, alongside the evening session of the world cup of darts. Which will be concluded tomorrow. May have England on but i don't have much interest in international friendlies at all.

2nd exam is on monday which is an AS Physics resit - I got a C in this but i was under the weather during the week i took this exam and i was taken to A&E after finishing, had surgery and 2 weeks later i was back to myself. So school kindly offered to pay for resits of any exams i had during that week, if i opted to take them. Whilst a C is ok - it dragged my overall physics grade down to a C for AS, as it was a more weighted paper of the overall mark. So feel i should be getting an A or a B at least in this paper, only consists of basic quantum physics/basic mechanics, plus 2/5ths examined on a series of physics related articles which test on scientific applications.

Hey Matt237. Great results poker wise, you seem to be quite a player.

Non poker question. What are you studying to be? I love physics, did a bit of it in engineering sciences as part of my engineering course at uni. I often think about going back to do a proper science qualification.

On to do pure maths at Uni starting september/october.

Which Uni you hoping to go to.
Remember Physics 'A' level at AGS with Mr Sawyer, most boring teacher in the history of boring teachers, probs not there now.

    Early start for 9am exam.

Well it was supposed to be. Turns out the insert for my physics exam was not instantly available, plus there were some typos in the paper we had to go through and correct. I'm guessing well into the 100,000s of students taking that exam, how can exam boards come up with typos? Seriously? Sat around for 50 minutes in a really stuffy room doing nothing, wasn't nice.

Exam went pretty smooth. 100 marks, 60 or some on Mechanics/Physics related calculations and rest on waves and basic quantum physics including photons and kinetic energy relationships to energy levels (again, Mechanics). 2 hours, 3 sections and 100 marks is a bit of a weirdly structured exam but found it quite straightforward really. Came out very happy. 2 down 6 more to go.

UCAS allowed me 3 choices for my provisional uni line up due to my health background from past 3 years limiting me to education time. Gone with -

    Uni of Birmingham
    Coventry University
    Wolverhampton University

Birmingham probably stands out to most, but Coventry being the best modern University, and has a fantastic course/opportunities looks like my favourite so far. Wolverhampton is a university specialising for the deaf. I love all 3 but Coventry likely my first choice. We'll see come results day (Dont think results are an issue for any of my 3 offers)

Physics Wednesday. Mechanics U1 Thursday. Weekend. :-)

Right - Poker. I decided just to relax for a night and enjoy a bit of poker. £11 for the DTDs and Mega stack - Cant go much wrong for a nights entertainment. But tonight i encountered a serious cold deck. Not a moan really, I absolutely love it. You love it when you crush people in coolers, Also need to learn to take them when you are the recieving end. I just laugh and move on, good old game this. People will say 'you brought it onto yourself by pre flop play' For me it's all fine

Mega exit was a bit of a disaster. I made a big squeeze with JJ - called in 2 spots, flop came 9 high with 2 hearts, lad donk jammed so i went with Jacks, got called behind me aswell, I was ahead of 9 3 and 6 6. Turn was a 9 and river was a 6 to give the 6s a boat. Ah well.

That hand is in the clinic with a Q regarding Squeeze size, any good MTT regs feel free to take a look please.

May pop on for the turbos but unlikely.

Exam tomorrow and thursday, may drop a post in or 2, but big day in the conference today as Hereford were expelled and therefore we lost Chester from our division, and Lowestoft were shifted to our league.

    2 contrasting exams.

Wednesday - Physics A2 paper (Unit 4 of whole A level but first A2 unit)

An absolute B**** of a paper. Teacher of 30 years also described it as one of the hardest he's ever seen. Didn't faze me too much, still think i did quite well and understood it all. Just means hopefully the grade boundaries are low for this paper. Didn't come out with the greatest of confidence but hopefully done ok.

Thursday - Maths Mechanics AS paper

Easy. Would like to think i can get full marks here. Would certainly make my life easier for an A, especially an A* but think thats slightly out of reach. Only issue i may have here was actually overcomplicating the answers because the questions were really basic. Mechanics 2 is a much more difficult advancement on Mechanics 1, meaning the workings out are different and we learn newer methods, so hopefully my methods shouldn't be too much of an issue and i can still achieve atleast 90/95 UMS out of 100.

Life - Watched a cracker of a rugby league match tonight, far more entertaining than the first WC game (Shoot me down, I don't care). Try Leeds almost scored to win the game was out of this world, gutted the come back wasn't completed but Huddersfield were awesome and ended up winning 22-24. Great game.

Brazil Croatia - Bits I saw it looked like the ref had a stinker. Croatia definitely an underrated side though. No shock result. Meh.

Poker - No play still telling myself not to get involved. Railed a few team mates that went well last night so well done to Rose who cashed main and a few others just missed out but played well. All the best to those going to Blackpool for the week-end, wish I could be there but obviously can't.

Week-end - Obviously will be watching England on Saturday. Spain - Holland tomorrow but will be watching the rugby league aswell. Probably rail some poker on Sunday night.

Exactly half way through my exams now. Only 6 more days to go. Day off tomorrow so extra weekend day, but back in the swing monday. Run good everyone.

Been quite an enjoyable weekend. Although a lot of revision stress etc.

Really been enjoying this world cup - didn't think i would too much as international football for me is so boring. Watched all of the games on friday/saturday/today, with ARG v BOS kicking off as of this post being written.

Holland : AWESOME. A world class defence of Spain, torn apart by the dutch contingent of Robben, Van Persie and an exceptional Blind. I thought the dutch would cause an upset but can't say many people predicted 5-1. And it should have been more. Spain should have started De Gea over Casillas though.

Uruguay : Shocking. Beaten by a very average Costa Rica side. From an England perspective, we should really be beating these 2 sides if we approach the game in a similar manner to Italy. Disappointed that we never got anything from the game but happy with how we approached it in the attacking manner so hopefully we continue that way and we will cause Uruguay/C Rica more problems than we did to Italy. Need to sort that left side out - not sure whether the conditions affected them too much but i'd possibly start Shaw over Baines. Would keep the rest the same, but put Rooney more centrally behind Sturridge and Sterling out wide.

Life - Been mainly revising. Had a very stressful session today, going through another maths past paper and finding one of the hardest questions probably ever seen on a Core 3 maths paper. So ended up spending the past hour talking to 3 different people about it and watching a youtube video from mathsdave.

Exams - 4 done, 4 left. 1 Tomorrow Morning. (Monday) , 2 on Wednesday Afternoon and my final one on Thursday Morning.

Other stuff - Conference North line-up has now been confirmed .. 7 weeks to go, very excited. Fixtures released 3 weeks tomorrow.

    Barrow AFC
    Boston United
    Brackley Town
    Bradford Park Avenue
    Chorley FC

    Gloucester City
    Guiseley AFC
    Harrogate Town

    Oxford City
    Solihull Moors
    Stalybridge Celtic

Charity game - Now been fully organised. Wrote this story a few pages back - regarding a best mate of mine who went to down cancer. Any Birmingham City fans have probably come across this name, plus anyone from the Redditch/Stratford (Upon-Avon) area. https://www.facebook.com/events/760600837318625

Run well everyone, especially TPT in the DTDs tomorrow. One final push and i'll be back on Thursday. :-)

Maths went better than i probably anticipated; thought the paper would be harder than what it was. Been struggling today from my hay fever - dog needed to be walked and because i like to go for a stroll round the field with girlfriend + her dogs, decided to go over there. Since then i've kicked off and spent the past hour on a revision break lay in bed sneezing my head off :-(. Plan to do a bit more work, watch Germany v Portugal and maybe do some railing of the DTDs and catch up with some team mates.

Exams are coming to an end soon, need to figure out what to do with my roll and how much of it to use, after i have placed some bets for the forecoming season. Would like some advice from mid stakes MTTers if possible, will ask the question towards the end of the week. Also plan to set a challenge after deciding on my BR.

Pleased to say they have happened. Gone. No more. Last few have been a bit tricky but still went really smooth. Been a really tough and emotional few weeks for all the wrong reasons, and it's all gone! Over the moon!

Definitely getting back to the tables soon, probably starting next week. Taking this weekend off everything to relax completely, head out on the booze and spend some non revision time with the girlfriend. :-)

Premier league fixtures were out on Wednesday, plan to do my annual few as a part time Man United fan so long as they don't clash with Leamington games. Usually dont but sometimes Villa v UTD is a 5,30 saturday evening game and thats no good! -

    Man City (A) - 1st November 2014
    Aston Villa (A) - 20th December 2014
    Liverpool (A) - 21st March 2015

    Bankroll:

Now for where do I want to go with this - Obviously I could carry on like I am right now but I have this huge lump of money sat on here when in reality I enjoy the £5 games more where I feel I can use an edge to make money. I play the Tuesday/Wednesday mains also. I like to play on 888 also and plan to play on an extra site too, but I will mainly be based around here. I ended my last session with a £4.5k BR and withdrew down to £500 until I decided on what to do. I built this BR up from my tournament tokens and £30 aside for non league bets, ended up starting out losing at poker obviously but recently got up poker profit of £980. The other money came from successful bets in the non league market. Obviously will keep some money aside on here for betting purposes. And about £2k of it is definitely being kept for life and treats and essentials :-)

If I was to resume here playing £5 games each night with the main satellites or turbo/rebuy main events, what sort of roll would I be looking at? I also try to improve my cash game aswell so I will sometimes have the odd cash session, and any DYMs i play will be at £5 games also. Other sites i will be looking at MTTs only.

Any sort of advice/pointers would be appreciated. Just need more experience I think, whilst I'm only young I hink I have a decent grasp of the game now. Plus I talk with multiple successful players on a daily basis aswell. I don't want to move up the stakes too quickly just because I can as I'm rolled for it. I've been told by a couple I have the ability to do this already but feel I need more experience and feel for the game.

Also struggling to come up with a challenge idea - Obviously the aim is to maintain winning status and increase earnings from poker, but a figure would be a bit of a dull challenge I think. I'm quite a unique bloke so i enjoy the different experiences/challenges in life. Again, any advice/pointers welcome.

Providing you play well and make good decisions, then you should be enjoying the game and making money long term. I don't really understand the idea of challenging yourself to attain a certain profit. You might play very well but run badly. Would this dishearten you if you fell short of reaching your goal.
You could also set an easily achievable goal, as some seem to do, there's little satisfaction to have from reaching that target.

If i were to challenge myself, it would be something like 'to enjoy myself and to be as good as I can be'

Agree with both of these yeah. I am one to enjoy everything I do so the play will probably continue until I start to find things boring.

Some aspects i'll want to improve are cash games/satellite areas, with hopefully the plan of attempting to get into next UKPC/SPT. But the whole challenge really is to enjoy myself and maintain winning tournament player status. Just the BRM challenge now, have tried to stick within my means but £5/few main events out of over £4k seems rather too tight lol.

You most certainly are the wise so thank you for your post.

Fresh and ready to return to the poker scene tonight. Odd how it's been 2 weeks since i've played, and 20 days since my last proper session which was my deep turbo run. Look forward to returning for the DTDs and typical monday schedule. Here now with a fixed bankroll having made a lovely withdrawal. June has obviously been a non volume month having only 135 reward points but will turn out to be my best profitwise on sky poker :-). The real challenge begins today of continuing to improve my game, maintain winning status and just to enjoy it.

Have an interesting story to share later regarding a police incident this morning. Run well everyone!
