Friday/Saturdays yeah, then just the casual meal out and odd trip.

Had a little play tonight after a lovely meal out with 4 other housemates at an Indian buffet in Wolverhampton city centre. However I wish I hadn't, quit after 10 games having won 3, didn't really do much wrong, just made my moves at bad times and couldn't win those important flips. Never mind and onto tomorrow.

Poker tonight has been big S little t. 4/15, Couldn't hit couldn't hold, got to a point I could call out a river card against myself and it would always get there. Never mind. Out in Wolverhampton tomorrow night, then busy Saturday so will return Sunday evening. 5 games off my 500 dym target, just couldn't finish them off tonight.

So the disaster of the last few nights has been slightly recovered with a nice 9/10 run tonight. Was meant to be going to the Casino tonight to lose my live poker virginity but my Uni mate I was going to go with has had an early night after being shattered, never mind always next week. 505 games completed now so just a quick sum up of my first 500 recorded DYM games -

    Played - 500
    Cashed - 295
    Cash rate - 59%
    Best cashing streak - 14
    Worst dry streak - 9
    Buy ins - £2750
    Returns - £2950
    Cash from points - £25
    Overall profit - £225

I started off extremely badly, then got going very nicely and acquired a 64% WR over about 380 games then it went downhill for the last 50, but you expect those swings. Its been good fun and once I hit 1000 I hope to re-evaluate and move up to £11 games.

Will post some hands now, dont have many interesting ones to post but its nice to look over things.

Bit confused by the villains flat pre as its the type of stack size he would usually jam over a button/SB min raise so I raised here to induce a shove and snap off as opposed to jamming myself. On flop I think I can put him on a reasonably strong range here or a flush draw, best to jam here as we have left a PSB behind or show weakness and give the reg a rope to hang himself on with a hand like KJ/A10 etc, which he may fold to a jam?

Readless here. Feel like I may have made a mistake 3betting this flop, but villain has shown serious strength by raising flop after my UTG open + lead. I made it very small in order to price him in and hopefully make him feel potstuck on the turn with any Ace/2 pairs. Think if he has set he would get in on flop. Thoughts about flop 3 bet here? Think im pretty face up with AJ and sets here but it worked. :-)

Today I received some of the best news that I have read or heard in my lifetime.
    Officially cleared of Cholesteatoma. 08/09/2010 - 10/11/2014

It's only supposed to be a medium risk ear cyst, however 1 operation goes wrong and a week later i'm in a life threatening state. Ongoing monthly visits and 4/5 operations a year, total loss of hearing and 4 years later we are finished! For now obviously but this is extraodinary post I received this morning. I was preparing for the worst after being told about my latest tumour and how cholesteatoma was a big risk factor in Ear Cancer, so starting shaking a little bit when I received an NHS marked letter in my Uni box this morning. What turned into a dull miserable Monday has turned into one of the best of my life. Damage has already been done and we are still healing but nothing major will occur for a little while, fingers crossed and all that.

Turn 19 tomorrow aswell - Could not receive anything better for my birthday than that news. Look forward to DTDs tonight.

    Hi Matt

We don't know each other or have ever played (to the best of my knowledge) but just wanted to wish you all the best and say that I am delighted for you in respect of your recent news.

Time for a little update. Clearly going to be a long post though haha.

    Life -

This week marks the start of my 3rd month at Uni and I think I can finally say i'm settled in and happy. Time has allowed me to figure out who are the bad people in this house are, who I am going to live with next year and has given me time to enjoy my course and appreciate that I am here for a degree aswell as independance and learning life skills - which may sound ridiculous but the first month was pure alcohol and I struggled at times to enjoy as socialising came as a chore. Think I've finally recovered 100% from recent operation and the news has properly sunk in now that I can actually live a normal life and hopefully go on to achieve good things. My disabled railcard has been approved and Uni have helped fund some awesome equipment for my personal use, so that is more good news.

Football - visited Hyde (tameside manchester) for the first time, along with a couple of visits to Kiddie Harriers to play Worcester City and this Saturday been to Bradford to play Bradford Park Avenue. Speaking of Worcester City for a moment - How well are they doing in the FA Cup eh? They knocked us out in a replay of the final qualifying round and drew Coventry away in the first round (I'm not going to talk about how awesome Coventry v Leamington FC would have been) then only go and win there! Just so happens I'm going to see them play Scunthorpe on Sunday with a friend after we have a big big big game at home to Hednesford Town. Not that local but on previous meetings its a very tasty encounter and always has a terrific atmosphere for a non league game. And having never been to Scunthorpe its another ground to look forward to visiting.

    Poker -

2nd of December marks my 1 year anniversary since I first signed up to sky poker. It has been an incredible journey so far, I have met some amazing people including a few friends for life already. My knowledge and play has improved to a level I would not have believed it could reach and as the year has gone on my results have improved and not only have I clawed out my early losses, I have pushed on and ended my first year with just under a 4 figure profit, which I think is pretty good for someone who has only played online poker for a year.

I unlocked my scope to look at quickly to confirm this and its almost a perfect Cosine graph between  π/2 and 2π. (Lovely bit of maths there hehe). Started off extremely well winning a £5 Bounty hunter in my first week after spinning up the £20 tournament tickets into £30. Then obviously get a little ahead of myself and a few deposits went wrong. Had a decent result in a Christmas UKOPS Micro event then went downhill a bit. Joined TPT in march and from there I started to play a lot more forum games and learn from those doing diaries and railing some of the better players on the site. It took me till May to make my first real deep run in a big MTT being the Wednesday rebuy in which I finished 8th for £230 or so. After that result it took me a week to make my first big final table being the Wednesday Mini rebuy where I finished 6th for about £180 and it did my confidence a lot of good. Then 2 weeks after that I came 2nd in a main event where I was really disappointed not to win - the 3rd of june Turbo open for £742. The fact I was disappointed not to win probably shows how far I have come in the poker world so far in terms of confidence in my own ability and not being afraid of the bigger names and the money jumps. Since then its been a different story and I have built on some massive results and continued to take down £5 mtts and remain a winning player. Recently I have turned to the DYM scene and so far I am doing extremely well over a smallish sample but hope to continue this over december and into 2015.

Might aswell make some targets for my 2nd year, nice to have a few things to aim for:

    > Remain a winning player overall
    > Have a winning 2nd year online
    > Win a main/mini event
    > Complete 1000 £5 dyms with a 60% win rate (currently 59.2%)
    > Continue this form onto £11 dyms over 1/2000 games
    > Play in a live event (UKPC/SPT etc)

As to my final target, I hoped to play and go to the February UKPC, but having seen the dates that is not possible. I have a hospital appointment on the thursday of UKPC week, then Friday-Monday I am away in Wales as Leamington are away at Colwyn Bay and we have booked a weekend away for it. So look to the August one.

At this ridiculous time of the evening I cant think of anymore achievable targets, I don't aim to grind too much for now with Uni going on but still want poker to be an enjoyable and profitable hobby. Back on the tables properly next week, have a coursework deadline for next Wednesday but hope to get a few sessions in between now and then, struggled a bit lately as we have a big house viewing for I'm a Celebrity get me out of here so my nights have been occupied (gutted that Jimmy Bullard has gone!!!!).

    Run good peoples

    Ooooo the mighty Harriers.
My dad used to take me home & away when i was a lad (way back in the 70's)
Was born up that way (Bewdley).
Played at the Harriers once in a Sunday League Cup final (Many, many moons ago).

Nice to hear you're all settled in now.

300 wins now - over 508 games; had a little mini session this afternoon in a break from some work. 2 defeats were a lost flip KQ<JJ held by a certain devonfish, and K10<K8 that just did not look like holding after going behind on the flop to a pair, even further behind on turn to trips and flushed up on the river. Strange games this afternoon I never really got involved at all, not sure if card dead or a bit of rustiness.

Love the ground, one of my favourites in the conference. Easy to get to via trains/buses and quite a decent stadium. Food top notch but rather pricey!

Making a rare appearance on the tables tonight. Coursework been handed in so fingers crossed on that.

Scunthorpe v Worcester on Sunday was one of the best games i've ever been too honestly. Atmosphere/occasional wise, and it was so strange because even though there was a 3 division difference, I thought Worcester never looked like losing and were by far the better team. Had a great day with an old friend i've drifted apart from in past 8 years. Even got myself on BBC Midlands today, and I could spot myself in the Worcester end on FA TV too :-).

Just be careful where you lot tread in the mega stack tonight, i'm back on my turf :-)

At a small loss tonight. 6/12 on the DYMs, in which I should have broken even, last game I got A9cc in vs 22 and flop came down A 6c 7c. Fab right? Turn, 2c, still ahead but now board pairs i'm gone, river is a 7. Lovely!

Mega - Finished 13th with 10 paid, exit was cruel and such a very close call which I decide to make with AJ, and he flips over AQ. GG!

    Hand here please tournament lovelies.

Good show today, ended about £45 up or so. Decided to play a few more MTTs than I have been lately and managed to FT and get heads up in the 20:15 Deepstack, Only to last 3 hands, of which we actually got them all in on the flop everytime, 2 being chops and 1 being my exit - bit weird.

    Rajani2900001£107.30
    Matt23702£63.80
3/7 DYMs - Not much volume to comment on obv but twice ran into AA and once into KK in those horrible bubble spots. Other game was a A6<KK so didn't run great in those.

Mini - Utterly card dead for 90 minutes, thought I was getting there with 10bb and JJ, only to run into BBs QQ.

Other game I played was the 21:45 speed but no good in that.

Last week of Uni before Christmas break, going home Thursday so quite excited really. Uni life been pretty boring past couple of weeks or so. Had a great night out Friday for our last outing. Tuesday night Leamington are away to AFC Fylde (Up near Blackpool), bit of a trek but will be travelling up there. Wednesday night off to Worcester v Scunthorpe FA Cup 2nd round replay which is on BT Sport so hope to get on the TV again aha. Next session should be Thursday therefore, may pop on tomorrow but expecting to be busy.

Wow what a game that was last night, anyone happen to watch it? Record breaking aswell - Most penalties in an FA Cup penalty shootout ever. 32!

Bet the TV coverage was good, thought Worcester's equaliser was quality. They flew the conference north flag high and sadly fell just short. Gutted for them.

So the story of my last 2 weeks has been: FLU. I dunno what it is about it this year but its gone on for ages. Still on the cough phase too urgh. Been a busy 2015 start with a few interesting days out, and not really much poker thrown in until tonight. Back into my proper daily routine now we are a bit better and Uni has restarted again for 2 weeks up until revision/exam time. So thought i'd hit the tables tonight (fancied some tournaments) and fair to say I didn't really run very well at all. In 7 games (6 MTTs 1 Satellite) I cashed one, which happened to be a final table. -

    17:30 BH (£5,75) - 89/104 0 heads. Had a cold flush over flush hand.
18:00 Main Event Satellite (£7,20) - 62/108, 21 seats. Cant even remember the exit too well, Definitely all in pre though.
    18:30 Rebuy (£2,20 (x3)) - 4/88 for £33,12
    18:45 BH (£5,75) - 111/279  0 heads. 44 did not hold against Q10 all in pre.
    20:30 Megastack (£5,50) - 59/75. Played awfully, bloke triple barrelled on 10 high board,had A10.Did not believe.He had 10s.
20:30 Mini (£5,50) - 140/601 0 heads. KQ did not hold against KJ all in pre.
21:45 Speed Rebuy (£2,20 (x3)) - 31/106. AQ did not hit against 77 all in pre.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

So had some really cruel hands tonight where there wasn't much else I could do, which means I didn't really play too badly overall. The rebuy I played quite well but possibly overvalued my hand in my exit, I probably should go with it but had a gut feeling UTG was strong as he was quite a passive player. The gift from the small blind was great - if he folds I still shove anyway and thought I may have a little bit more fold equity after he calls but what he did was amazing - basically gave me a free ladder as I finished 4th and he finished 5th.

Well what a contrast to yesterday in which I ran terrible and made a final table. Tonight I ran pretty well and made yet another final table, but tonights final table was a little bit bigger than a £2.20 rebuy.

    18:30 Rebuy (£2,20 x3) - 18/90. 13 paid, Lost flip. AQ into 99, Ace high flop contained a 9.
    18:45 BH (£5,75) - 193/278 0 heads. Lost flip
    20:00 Turbo Main Event (£11) - 5/608 for £310,08
    20:30 Turbo Mini Event (£5,50) - 68/660 for £10,27 (includes 1 head)

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Well well well what a fantastic evening. Middle stages of both tournaments went very similar in the fact that I was nursing a short stack but was not really in danger of exit. Then whenever I folded down to about 6 or 7 bb I woke up with a big hand and got it in which held. Got down to chip leader with 21 left in the main and that's when I exited the mini. Open shoved 99 with an awkward stack of 12bb considering the stacks on my table, and got snap rejammed by AK. Board delightfully comes out K 4 4 K so drawing dead on the turn, lovely. Went along very comfortably in the main until about 8 left or so. Made 1 or 2 massive folds on ICM relations when possibly I should have gone with hands as ladders were £60 and not necessarily big ones, but I feel it was ok considering i'm only a lower-mid stakes regular. Made the FT and went card dead, thankfully someone jammed A3 into Gazscoops AA and exited before me, then was folded round to me in the SB with K3 suited and obviously went with it being the shortest stack and 6bb, snapped off by 88 and did not hit. Still 5th for £310 is not too shabby. Would have been nice to win obviously but think I went almost as far as I could.

Quite a high quality final table IMO for a turbo tuesday. Might be going out tomorrow who knows, but if not I'll definitely be on tables.

Urgh. You know those near miss nights, yeah this was definitely one of them.

Bubbled both £200 Guarenteed MTTs. AK<22 and KQ<A9
3 off cash in the 21:45 speed. 44<A6
Made last 25% of field in the megastack, ran AQ into AK.
5 off cash in the 18:30 rebuy. 55<JQ
Lasted about 5 minutes in the 2 BHs I played however, in which I ran QQ<KK in both.

Only cash was a final table in the 10pm Turbo. QQ<A9 was no good.
    Matt23706£14.70
Just getting to the important stages again and losing every flip. But suppose getting so far is a positive, just unlucky I lost 4 very important flips, resulting in 4 exits. Never mind eh. Back tomorrow for 1 more MTT night for a few days as the weekend arrives.

Cut session short to sit back and relax, still struggling with my ankle so took the £5 profit and ran. (Puns not appreciated)

Started well but collapsed in pretty much everything except for the main event. Managed to satellite into this via the LR Semi for £7,20 and collected 2 heads for £25,31. My exit was really frustrating but with the light calling element I should have expected my 3b jam to be cold called by 89o. Mini chipped up early again, got 2 heads early, again. Collapsed in 2 hands though, decided to float a big stack with 47 after flopping a gutshot with them leading out which I was confused by, turned open ended decided not to raise and raise the river, however they checked a king river so decided to fire anyway but got called by 2nd pair after a longish tank, thought I had him. Then blind on blind I flopped top pair with backdoor straight+flush draw, and got it in vs an overpair. Did not hit and I was down to 5bb, jammed A3 into AJ and out.

Those were the only interesting things about this session really, 200gtd I lost AK<J9 on K 9 x flop after villain check jams and gets there, £5,75 BH was overpair vs a bigger overpair, and the rebuy I jammed AQ into AK. Poker!

    Ended up about £5 up.

Plus I got some money added to my account for my final table in the Tuesday main from the TSP promotion I presume.

Have a good weekend everyone, may pop on Sunday evening to try and continue the MTT roll
