What about just playing a semi satellite? Seems like a better option IMO. I think I'm going to have 2/3 attempts at a satellite at most and then give up. I really hate satellites but just can't afford to buy in direct really!!
A semi is £72, I don't really fancy punting £72 when if I remember rightly the late stages of SPT sats are massively cr@pshooty. I can't afford to BI direct either but my proper grind (and roll) is on Sky... so I'm still 12tabling cash here, and then I just have 4 MTTs going on the other site on my other monitor so it's not really interfering with my normal grind while trying to bink a seat.
As it is, I'm only playing like £2/£3/£5 MTTs on a very soft site so very small risk and tbh I'd be shocked if I didn't have a decent bink once in the next like 5 weeks or whatever I have. I'm already about +£160 in the last week or so... half way there.
Tbh, even if I didn't make much more profit over the next few weeks, I'd be happy just withdrawing my £160 and getting into the Grand Final for (effectively) only £170
Had another deep run last night but wasn't quite deep enough!
I played 4 MTTs, bust 3 of them fairly early but was going along really nicely in the biggest MTT of the night. It was a €10 BI (usually I stick to €5 max but was convinced by someone saying how good it was).... 1511 runners started, with just shy of €2.8k for the win. I made the money but bust 77 v AQ aipf to come somewhere inthe 120s I think. Pretty sigh cos their MTTs are VERY top heavy (which I love) but it means a mincash is like 1.5x the BI lol... so won just over €15

This is what always reminds me of why I prefer cash over MTT's!! I mean the thrill of an MTT win is great but playing multiple hours to just min-cash really grinds on me!! I guess sky is OK in that the fields are never that big so you're not playing all that long in a tourney and min-cashing doesn't seem so bad!
WRT the semi-satellites - did not realise they were that much!! OK, even they seem quite a lot to spend in comparison to my BR. That being said what I still think if you want to satellite in you'd probably be better off going for the semi because spending £16 on a quarters and working really hard to try and win a seat into a semi when you can probably just grind cash for the same time (and win the same amount). Even if you do win a smaller satellite you'll still then have to win the semi's anyway.
@ Dohhhh: Possibly. I don't know who would want to buy any action off me though! I mean I'm mainly a cash player as you know and even though I've had good success the past week in tourneys (finished with a v good cash in almost 20% of tourneys) I don't have much experience of big field tournaments live play. I've only played 3 events (2 SPTs and one pub league finals at DTD) - had 1 min-cash out of them 3 tourneys! So I'd probably say buy action off me at your own peril :P
Turned around the month a few days ago and went into a decent profit for the first time of the month, then have run unbelievably bad over the last 2-3 days and blown a massive chunk. Just 3 days of pretty much every single possible form of negative variance rolled in to one.... missing every board, zero cbets/bluffs getting through, when I hit well either getting snap folds or ending up being coolered/outdrawn at some point.
And just bust my last MTT of the morning... made it into the cash, shipped 44, snapped by 22 who flops quads, gg.

3 weeks of steady profit virtually gone in less than 4 hours....
Still at least we have large Reward payments to look forward to..
Lol tell me about it Spanky! At this rate, my Rewards payment is the only thing that's gonna result in my month finishing in the black... but there's plenty of time to write that off too
Posted this in my BBV thread but this is by far the worst downswing I've ever had and I've had some pretty nasty ones. I'm literally struggling to think of a hand I've won over 20xBB recently, I'm almost 100% sure it didn't happen once tonight. I'm sure the stuff I could show would make you puke too Rancid. So yeah month started awful and was -25 BIs in the first like 4 days, turned it all round in the next week or so and my month was about +12 BIs... then in the last 4 days I've lost 40 BIs. No doubt there's bad play in there, even when I'm playing my A-game it's not like I'm Phil Ivey so there will always be mistakes but jeez this is brutal.
On a happier note! I had another deep run on the other site tonight, it was a €5 BI with 349 runners and I came 2nd for €234 so that along with my other cashes over the last week or so means my SPT BI is covered now without touching my Sky roll.
Definitely gonna have to carry on playing there along with my cash... might be the only thing that keeps my Sky roll alive
Good luck, lambert. Always nice to see one of our own taking a shot. Are you enjoying poker as much with the added volume / pressure? have you altered your long term poker goals, I know you wanted to get to a level where you were comfortable sitting at the higher stakes here, do you think you'll get to take a shot now or in the near future?
Cheers Spanky. No worries about the downswing comparison, there's no fear of me surviving on beans on toast any time soon lol. First month was +£1.3k and while this one is going pretty disgustinngly so far (with very little time to turn it around), I'm still financially comfortable.
Cheers Teddy. I haven't been enjoying the last week but that's just cos I've been getting butchered and I don't think anyone enjoys sitting down to get battered every night but that aside yeah I'm still really enjoying the game, and certainly enjoying it far more than working in an office for British Gas for 8hr a day. I am kind of aware of the element of pressure because obviously I need to be winning money, but not to a point where it's getting to me either on or off the table.... yet
In terms of long term goals... I was talking to someone about this the other night and tbh the sky is the limit really. I don't have a cap on what I want to achieve really, like I don't have something in mind like 'I wanna get to 100NL and be making 30 BIs per month' or w/e. I just want to keep getting better at the game and within reason I'll just keep going higher when I'm comfortably rolled to try it providing I still do well at the higher level.
It all depends on liquidity on here tbh, the more I hear, the more it sounds terrible to try to get games going on here higher up. I may need to play a few tables here and a few tables somewhere else but I'm aiming to be playing 50NL regularly (I'll still include lower stakes if the games are really good) before the end of the year.
Good luck Paul, wasn't expecting that in blog but kinda figured it may be something big. I've faced redudandcy twice and made sure i stayed employed the last time round... and never really fancied playing poker full time so kudos to you for going for it
if you ever need to talk tilt or vent some bad beats feel free to pm... i have plenty of time for you, i remember when you were playing 4nl and starting a gabazillion threads in the clinic!!
Cheers TPTP. Yeah my plan was always to work through the levels from the very bottom and get to the top. I'm obviously no where near the top, but I'll get there.
Had my first winning day today in about a week which was a nice relief. I still didn't run particularly well... one hand that comes to mind is getting it all in pre AA v 99 within about 2 mins of the session starting and losing so was tough to stay positive with that after everything else recently but I stuck at it for a small +£50 session.
I said this to someone else earlier but I do feel better about things today. I came to a realisation that I guess should have already been obvious but hadn't really occurred to me...
In the short term this is has been a terrible month but in reality all it's really affected 'financially' is a number on the screen, it's not preventing me from withdrawing and it's not preventing me from being able to play exactly the same games I already do even after withdrawing. So while my roll is smaller, I'm still in exactly the same position to win X amount next month as I was at the start of the month. So slowed down the move to 50NL a little but not gonna stop me making good money and continuing to withdraw next month.

Good stuff, keep up the positivity.
Good luck making a living from poker and moving up the levels.
You have had some solid advice on the other thread. Definatly worth giving it a go and seeing where it takes you.
Another good idea, might be to put away a percentage, say 10%, of any withdrawls into a seperate bank account which could be a backup if a month didn't go as planned.
Right, I'm having tonight off and just stood from my morning session so that's me done for the month.
It's been one hell of a rollercoaster month and one I'm looking forward to putting behind me. About 4 days into the month I was already -£500 and stayed around that mark for a few days, then the 2nd week of the month I had a +£1.1k week which was nice.... the 3rd week I had a -£1k week which wasn't so nice lol.
Managed to scrape together some decent profits in the last week though and with a bit of help from C4P and the fact I won about £350 this month on my other site where I play MTTs, it has still turned out to be a profitable month.
It's been pretty horrific at times but I can't complain, I'm at the end of the month, I've withdrawn some £££, I've got myself an SPT seat for next month and I made a profit.
good news Paul, your in profit for September. Can't be easy for you just turning pro, must be a lot of pressure for you. Hope you continue to make a profit in the future gl m8.
btw, a chapter or two of the mental game of poker wont go amiss every now and then just to keep it all in balance
woooooooow poker can be a cruel game. Got things back on track towards the end of last month and was feeling more positive. Sit down this morning to just get bad beats and coolers over and over and yet again find myself in a situation where I'm already trying to dig myself out of a £250 hole. People seeming to just flop sets for fun when the only 2 outcomes for me seem to be either I don't flop a set OR better still, I do and they've flopped a bigger one.
Good luck Lambert with turning pro, becomes a lot more stressful when playing for your soul income! I'm on a similar downswing to you atm, its been like playing snooker with a rope, can't do anything right!
Stick with it though, hopefully your luck will change.
Lambert, this may sound like it's not important but it is.
On one of your pictures I notice that you're using what looks like either a stool with no back or a sort of dining room chair. If you're planning to play long hours over months and years at that desk, you've really got to get yourself a chair that's made for the job.
Get yourself a chair with better back support, that allows you to sit closer to the screen. It looks like you'd have to be leaning forward from the chair you're using, but you want to be leaning back at an angle of about 120 degrees, if I remember rightly. You might want to get yourself a desk with more leg room, too.
@Hawk - Cheers mate. Yeah I've had a lot of advice given over the last couple of days, think I'm a bit more on top of things mentally now, I'm sure it'll turn.
@Borin - It's funny you should say that, you're not the first person to read my blog, spot that and make the same recommendation to me. It is a stool without a back btw. Cheers for the advice and I will get something better sorted. I keep meaning to ask you, do you have facebook or Skype. Me and Dohhhh were wondering if you wanted to join a group we're in for discussing poker shizzle. I'm doing a live sweat soon just to make sure I'm not (in the words of Rancid) playing like a wally lol... so would be good to get you in if you're up for it.
Well it's not all runbad in my life... got a letter from HRMC today with a cheque for the income tax I've been due back and chasing for a pretty long time.... a little over £1100
So in the words of Emma... 'that's Christmas sorted'.
Just realised, I suppose it's time I changed the title of this diary, not really sure what to though...
Was just wondering - you said you adapted pretty quickly to 12 tabling with your new monitor from 4-6 tabling
Any tips as i,m struggling to keep up with any more than 5 tables. I,m also getting lag on my computer since i got my new monitor and am able to play more tables. Have you had any similar problems and could it be i need a bit more RAM (Got 2 x 1GB at the mo) . Thinking of getting 2 x 2GB sticks and seeing if that sorts it

Dont want to hijack your thread Lambert but just a quick answer to this. More ram will deffinately help but unless you are running 64 bit windows 4gb is your limit. Also if its a PC rather than a laptop your graphics card would be your other limiting factor. Hope this helps.

I would quite like to get involved with sweat sessions and whatnot. I'll have to see if I can figure out how to use Skype, though. I've never used it before and I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to anything computer related.

As it is, I'm only playing like £2/£3/£5 MTTs on a very soft site so very small risk and tbh I'd be shocked if I didn't have a decent bink once in the next like 5 weeks or whatever I have. I'm already about +£160 in the last week or so... half way there.
Tbh, even if I didn't make much more profit over the next few weeks, I'd be happy just withdrawing my £160 and getting into the Grand Final for (effectively) only £170
I played 4 MTTs, bust 3 of them fairly early but was going along really nicely in the biggest MTT of the night. It was a €10 BI (usually I stick to €5 max but was convinced by someone saying how good it was).... 1511 runners started, with just shy of €2.8k for the win. I made the money but bust 77 v AQ aipf to come somewhere inthe 120s I think. Pretty sigh cos their MTTs are VERY top heavy (which I love) but it means a mincash is like 1.5x the BI lol... so won just over €15
And just bust my last MTT of the morning... made it into the cash, shipped 44, snapped by 22 who flops quads, gg.
You are not alone.....

Lambo goes Pro!
Paul sent me a Blog at the beginning of the Month, & I've only just got round to uploading it, sorry.
Worth a read though, HERE
Good luck with this Paul, it's a massive step to be playing as your sole source of income.
I feel a bit bad about comparing downswings now cos yours may mean you're surviving on beans on toast for a month!!!!
Best of luck, run better....

Good luck

Fingers crossed October is a little bit less of a bumpy ride
Can't be easy for you just turning pro, must be a lot of pressure for you.
Hope you continue to make a profit in the future gl m8.
btw, a chapter or two of the mental game of poker wont go amiss every now and then just to keep it all in balance
Regards Alan.

woooooooow poker can be a cruel game.
Oh well, soldier on and all that lark
Anyway, I've started an actual blog so if anyone is interested, here it is.

Back pain is a bad, bad thing.
Good luck with your endeavours.
@Slip - Thanks

Facebook and I don't get on.
