pga tour on a new course so no previous history to look back on.

Gone for some hopefully safe bets

    Top 20 finish

Paul Casey 10/11 £44. In good form in an average looking field.

    Be lucky

Hunting around for any credible information to place a bet on

William Mcgirt is also from North Carolina and in good form so playing the home state favourite card I've backed him at 40/1 e/w £1

    £21 top 20 finish 15/8

1st round leader based mainly on tee times and price

    reed 50/1

    mcgirt 50/1

    scott 33/1

    rahm 25/1

    all £1 e/w

    be lucky

    Mcgirt 50/1
    Taylor 150/1

just a couple for me this week
  • edited May 2017
Petterssen is also "local". Based in the USA, he went to high school and university in North Carolina and lives there. He is a member and he holds the course record of 62.

With it not being a regular tour course and a testing course, I am hoping that makes him good value although of course recent form isn't much to shout about, but he is a 5 time PGA tour winner and was in contention in his last start.

I am on Petterssen and Simpson ew for FRL and overall winner.

For overall ew I am also on Reed, McDowell, Hughes and Lowry.

    GL all.

Well the local knowledge angle bombed.

Otherwise it was looking good for me after 1st 9 of last round with Reed 1st and GMac T3. We all know how important those last 9 are though.
  • edited May 2017
Luckily Casey had a good final round and finished T12 so that covered most of my losing "home town favorite" bets.

Did think for a little while I might post a profit with Rahm leading on the back nine but it wasn't to be.

Portugal and the players this week, both hard to call.

    Be lucky
  • edited May 2017
    Left Portugal alone.

    Players

    K.Chappell 50/1 £2.50 e/w free £5 bet

    £33 on Knox top Scottish @ 8/11

    Top 20

    F.Molinari £10 @ 2/1

    K.Chappell £10 @ 5/2

    Be lucky

    tough looking week.

Small e/w bet on Leishman at 100/1 for me
  • edited May 2017
    Main bet Garcia e/w.

He seems to be targetting the bigger events and getting it right for them and he has a great record here. The big question is whether the emotions of winning his first major will have a negative effect, or whether getting that monkey off his back will free him up to play even better. I just think he represents the best value of the shorter prices.

Sprinkled some ew love at bigger prices on

    Lowry, Donald, Perez, Lingmerth.

    GL all
  • edited May 2017
well, knox was a huge disappointment.

chappell and Molinari still in the hunt for top 20
  • edited May 2017
lowry big disappointment, I will keep an eye on Donald he is showing signs that will compete and I thought this course would suit. Lingmerth started well but faded.

Sergio and Perez have improved each round.

Added Molinari and Noren in play so I have 4 in contention to hopefully keep it interesting tonight.
  • edited May 2017
Molinari bet came in but overall a losing weekend but as stated it was tough to select a winner in either tournament.

    Better luck next week

    *BUMP* For the Open.

I have made a few selections with Skybet offering 10 places.

Last year my picks had shown form in Scotland the week before and had all contented well in past majors and it worked well (Stenson, Mickleson, Stricker).

If weather isn't too much of a factor then it could be wide open. I think I will wait for the draw and weather forecast nearer the time before adding, as getting out before or after any wind could make a huge difference.

So far I am on Stenson, Kuchar, Harrington
  • edited July 2017
The prices vary wildly, its deciding whether to take 1/4, 6 or 7 places or 1/5 odds for 10 places.

be careful with Stenson, this weekend he was very unhappy with his game and said he just plans to enjoy next weekend as its unlikely he'll ever be playing as defending champion again

    1/5 for 10 is a lot better than 1/4 for 7

having studied this one quite a lot it seems having played the Scottish the week before is imperative to performing well here, (or at the very least the Irish 2 weeks ago) add to that some sort of decent current form and good scrambling stats and i have decided to back the following.

    ian poulter  66/1
    Kuchar  50/1
    andrew johnson  125/1
    ricky fowler  14/1
    adam scott 33/1
    Noren 45/1
    Wiesberger 125/1
  • edited July 2017
     10 places 1/5   8 places 1/4  6 places 1/4
     20/1                20/1             25/1         Matsuyama
     28/1                28/1             28/1         Scott
     50/1                45/1             55/1         Kuchar
     50/1                55/1             66/1         Pieters
     150/1              175/1            175/1       Dechambeau
     400/1              400/1           400/1        Hend
The 8 and 6 places is the same bookies, some of the pricing is strange, why bet 6 when you get 8 at same price on 3 of them.
Thats the bets on went for 10 places, did them all e/w, 4 real contenders, 2 just a bit of fun, hope at least half of them make the cut, then I wont need to put more bets on at the weekend.

    Me too

I know its hard to predict but i,m suprised that Justin Rose isn,t favourite for this so i,ve plumped for him as my first bet

£10 win Justin Rose 21/1  (echange- get free £5 bet for sportsbook for winners market)

I  also think experience and short game will be huge this week and will also have a punt on Mickleson as he served me well before in the Open.

As i,m hoping to go down to watch on Saturday i,ll be cheering on the English so may go for a cpl of those incl.. Westwood and Casey .

Gonna try and keep it to 5 picks as its quite easy to get caried away and end up backing half the field here

Great Offer from SKY paying 10 places....

    So far I'm on.....(all e/w)

Matt Fitzpatrick 70/1.... gotta back him coz he's from my home club in Sheffield, and I think he will win 'The Open' one day.

Patrick Reed 66/1..... coz he's a good player who doesn't give a s* *t. but he will come Sunday if he's in contention.

Alex Noren 45/1..... I'm sure he has the game to win a Major one day, and he plays better in Europe

Thomas Pieters 50/1..... who has a fantastic swing and is a solid putter. Coached by  a friend of mine, Peter Cowen and although a bit temperamental, I think he will win a Major one day.

Louis Oosthuizen 45/1...... has won 'The Open' before, and has an AMAZING golf swing. He has been playing and putting well this year, and this Tourney usually fires him up. He is a very long, straight hitter, which is needed around Royal Birkdale, and is my No.1 choice.

I would love to see Justin Rose win, but I don't think he is in good enough form, and 'The Masters' around Augusta is more his Tournament.

all over Rose, remember he finished fourth in the Open here as an amatuer .

Also Harrington who played well in Scotland when weather not too bad and won here last time.
Cabrera Bello although actually winning Scottish might not help.

Also got to give Fowler another go and like Pieters and Kuchar

Chris Wood fifth in 2008 outsider

Think I'll join in the fun this week with a few long shots.

Had some money on PP so just stuck all my bets on there.

    FRL (7 places)

    Chris Wood 75/1
    Soren Kjeldsen 80/1
    Matthew Southgate 130/1

    Outright (8 places)

    Chris Wood 125/1
    Soren Kjeldsen 125/1
    Matthew Southgate 250/1

    Also added...

    FRL (7 places)

    Peter Uihlein 90/1

    Outright (8 places)

    Peter Uihlein 150/1

As far as guys playing on US tour these 2 stats, should be important round Birkdale as its a beast, but very fair if you hit it into the right place (fairly flat fairways for a links course). Guys appearing in both stats should be worth looking into.

Just putting the finishing touches to my Open bets

FRL Chris Wood  100/1 £2 EW   ( As viagret said - 5th last time here and out in 1st grp which should be big advantage)

    Winner :

Ian Poulter : £3  94/1  ( Backed him last time at Birkdale and if it wasn,t for Harringtons gr8 finish he would have won it)

Paul Casey : £3 43/1   (Shown some good form in last year)

Lee Westwood : £2  84/1  ( Thought he,d be better price but he,l be well up for this and is deffo due a major)

Tommy Fleetwood : £4 27/1  ( Not gr8 odds again but probably knows the course better than anyone)

Phil Mickleson  : £5 FB  45/1  ( If  its not an Englishman that wins then i hope its him)

Ps - Does anyone know how long it will take the last group to go round on Sunday. Not sure whether to go by bus or train as last bus back is 8.30pm so will have to get away for 8.15pm.  I did read on the official site the other day that Tee off times on Sunday were 3pm for last group but that seems a little late and now its not there

I dont think there is much of a weather angle to go on.

Wind looks pretty even through Thursday with maybe a slight lull in the middle of the day and there is overnight rain predicted so an early start could make for relatively receptive greens.

Friday is wet through the day and windier but wind is expected to drop off in the evening.

Optimum tee times on that would be mid morning Thu, Late afternoon Friday but I dont expect a huge edge there. Definitely not enough to sway FRL bets.

    Added to original Stenson/Kuchar/Harrington

with Noren, Fox, Molinari, Wiesberger, Harman and Wood.

Also looking at the tee time slight advantage and the fact that amateurs have done well here in the past I am tempted to add a few pennies on Ellis and Ciancetti who are 750 and 1000:1 ew with the sky 10 places.

I know I have covered alot, probably too much but I am keeping it small ball to add a bit of fun.
